Documents in a shared "SkyDrive Pro" (Sharepoint) folder makes office applications to hang.

Hello,
I asked the following question in the Office365 community but they could not help me any further and they told me to ask the question here. For the original thread look here: http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/172/p/212129/655853.aspx
Office version: Office Pro 2013 (365 ProPlus)
Windows version: Windows 7 Pro.
We are using a shared folder on "places" in SharePoint Online with some shared documents we edit from different places. But sometimes when using documents on the drive applications like Excel and Word hangs, and then you have to reboot or kill a couple
of "winword.exe" or "excel.exe" to get them to work again.
I don't know why those "shadow processes" are there, but the problem is only when working with documents on the SkyDrive Pro.
Sometimes when you save to Skydrive the applications hangs and you have to kill the process.
The document seams to be saved tough.
Kind Regards,
Noiden

Hi Noiden,
Please exit your Skydrive Pro and try to use the command %SystemDrive%\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\Groove.exe /clean /all stated in the KB article below to check if it helps:

Please let me know the result.

  • Skydrive Pro & Sharepoint sync - Only sync subfolders

Is it possible to sync only files in a sub-folder within a main document library?
I'm working on a set of documents that are stored in a sub-folder which is part of a huge document library. I don't want to sync the whole library because:
    - I don't need the rest of the docs
    - I don't want to accidentally mess it up by deleting/moving files etc
Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to create a new document library for the stuff that I'm working on.. (some company policy or other)
    Thanks in advance

In the example above and now below :) Is there anyway do this, I am the admin could I set a users right to the mainlibrary and one subfolder, and thus not allow syncing to other folders - Power Shell it maybe? This would be very helpful, as I would like
to get away from syncing 1.75GB folders only to play inside a  folder with 25 megs, from a server overhead prospective this would greatly improve network congestion problems. Hope someone is listening to my wine - LOL I know it's the wrong spelling.
    Gord(Firefoxf18)
For example, I have a document library:
    http://someurl.com/mainlibrary
    Within that library, I have a sub-folder
    http://someurl.com/mainlibrary/mysubfolder
When I choose the option to sycn a new library, in the box that says "Which library do you want to sync?", I put the url : http://someurl.com/mainlibrary/mysubfolder
However, when I started syncing, skydrivepro actually sycn the whole Mainlibrary, and not just "mysubfolder".
So my question is whether it's possible to sync just "mysubfolder"

    Hi,
is there any way to programatically download/upload files to someones Skydrive Pro disk (as O365 admin)? I found this article,

  • Using "Shared with Everyone" on Skydrive Pro

    Hi,
Two users in the same organisation using Office 365
Both open Skydrive Pro and place files in their "Shared with Everyone" folder (thats he one that displays the words "Everyone in
companyX can access the documents here")
However in the folder both users can only see their own files.
How do these users see and access each others files?
    {Also - I have also tried creating folders under each user and sharing them with the other user.  Still each user can only see they're own files and folders.}
(from reading other posts currently the best answer looks like "use Google Drive" - surely there must be a way using Skydrive/Sharepoint?)

    Hi,
Here is the link to the “Documents shared with me” feature in SharePoint 2013 environment, it provides a holistic overview of all documents shared with me. Thus the user is automatically informed of shared documents without leaving the current working context.
All documents shared with me are displayed in a result stream.

Please go to http://mycompany/myteam and click the Setting icon > Add an app > Find an app > type the tag WA103998117 and click search > check out the result in the SharePoint Store if needed > select

  • Problems with Event Receiver and SkyDrive Pro Document library

I wrote an event Receiver that implements the ItemUpdated (but the Synchronous one) event. I basically modify docx files content. When the library has versioning enabled, I first move the SPFile to a hidden library that does not have versioning, I update
it, and then I move back to the original library to avoid creating a new version for this file.
This works fine in the standard case (e.g. standard Document Library), but for Document Libraries that belong to SkyDrive then when I upload files using the SkyDrive Pro utility (that is, the utility that synchronizes files from "C:\Users\Administrator\SkyDrive
Pro\Shared with Everyone" to the server) there in an error reported by the Upload Center since it seems that as the file content is modified in the server and is different than the local copy then it does not like this situation. If you open the file
using the Upload Center then word asks you to keep the version in the server, or the version that is local.
    Any way to bypass this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
From the description, the issue seems to be that the event receiver fires in the SkyDrive library, but the SkyDrive folder where you met the error message isn't synchronized to the server.
If so, this will be the default behavior, have you checked the workflow? You may consider copy the document to document library using workflow, update the document in the library using event receiver or workflow, then copy back to the SkyDrive
    library.
If it isn't the issue, please feel free to let me know.
    Thanks,

  • Office 2013 Will not open documents in a shared folder but 2007 will.

    Hi,
Recently we are testing office 2013 and have noticed a problem. When office attempts to open an Excel or Word document that is stored on a shared drive on the file server it will not open it. When you double click on the document, either word or
Excel, the appropriate Office app opens, but it opens on the start screen, i.e. the one with the templates displayed.
There are no error messages displayed , and it appears that the office app opens twice, i.e you see the splash screen with the app name on it two times in quick succession, however you cannot find two instances of the app open.
If you simply copy the document from the shared drive to the users desktop and then double click the file , the appropriate app opens and the file also opens without a problem.
Also if you go to a client machine with office 2007 loaded on it then the document on the shared drive opens without a problem at all.
The client machine with office 2013 is a Dell E7440 with windows 7 Pro 64bit.
    Thanks in advance

    I think its working now.
Here is what I had to do.
Delete Office from the machine once again, this time using the Microsoft tool to remove all remnants of the office software , then manually check the registry to see all the referenced keys had been removed.
    Reboot.
Copy all the users data to another location on the same machine.
    Delete the users profile.
    Reboot.
Reload office using the link Dell sent me.
    Reboot.
Log in as a domain admin and check that office would open the documents on the file share and it did.
    Reboot.
Log in as the user who’s profile I had deleted so that the profile was recreated.
Attempt to open documents on the file share and it was successful.
Move most of the users data back to the users folder so that his system looked the same as before.
    Reboot.
Try again to use office applications and open documents from the file share and it continued to function correctly.
Waited a day for the user to see how it went and it is still working now.
I have no idea what could have been causing this problem or why doing what I did above fixed it.
I hope the problem does not return.
Now we can move on with more testing to see its suitability to our field service engineers, remote connections and connections to our customer systems will be checked next.

  • On-premise SharePoint 2013 and SkyDrive Pro Sync Issue

    Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is the correct forum between SharePoint and SkyDrive as the issue is related to an update on SkyDrive Pro.
premise SharePoint 2013 installation (migrated from 2010) and Office 2013 installed. SharePoint is patched up to the latest CU. Syncing documents from SharePoint worked fine until KB2817495 was installed. The syncing still seems to work but we cannot add
any new libraries, either directly from the browser using the "sync" button or adding the URL to "Sync a new library". I've tested it with an Office 365 account and the libraries add fine so I'm not sure whether it's a SkyDrive or SharePoint
issue. If I uninstall the update then I can successfully sync new libraries from our on-premise installation.
At this point the only solution I can see is to prevent that update from installing via WSUS.
    Kind regards,
    Rick

  • Alternate of Skydrive pro for offline capability in sharepoint 2013.

    Hi Everyone,
I have been working on offline solution for sharepoint 2013. The volume of data in sharepoint is huge(like 2 TB). Almost every user will have access to more than 25000 documents. Initially I picked Skydrive Pro client(which comes with office 2013) as a tool
but later got to know the limitations of it.
    As this link
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn232145.aspx#section3 says.
The SkyDrive Pro Windows Sync client limits the total number of items that you may synchronize with a document library. The following limits are the synchronization limits of the SkyDrive
    Pro Windows Sync client:
You can synchronize up to a maximum of 20,000 items in your SkyDrive Pro document library, which includes folders and files.
You can sync up to a maximum of 5,000 items in other document libraries, which includes folders and files.
In any library, you can download files up to a maximum file size of 2 GB.
     Note:
The above limits are not configurable.
Which is a major setback for me. I have tried to found one tool called colligo breifcase for windows http://www.colligo.com/colligo-briefcase-for-windows-feature-matrix/.
Is there any other 3rd party tool or code in codeplex to overcome these limitations?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Sync shared drive to sharePoint document library

Is it possible to sync files in shared drive to SharePoint site?
if i add any new files it should get updated in Document lib too .

    Hi,
For your requirement, you can take consideration of mapping a SharePoint library with a local drive folder.
Here is a link will provide more details:

  • Enable Sharepoint 2013 SkyDrive Pro Synch for some site

    Good day,
How do you enable SkyDrive pro for some libraries, i have only found the switch that enables for all or for none. Can this be configured via Powershell ? and how thanks

    Hi Franciske,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to sync multiple SharePoint 2013 libraries with SkyDrive Pro.
For enabling SkyDrive Pro for some SharePoint libraries, you can click ‘SYNC’ at the top of SharePoint web site, then you can select which library is synchronized to SkyDrive Pro. Or you can use SkyDrive Pro directly by right-clicking it and selecting ‘Sync
a new library’, then type the URL of the library that you want to sync.
You only sync one library to SkyDrive Pro at once time. So , for synchronizing multiple libraries, you need to sync multiple times.
More information, please refer to the links:

  • Does anyone use Sharepoint to only host SkyDrive Pro?

    Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone else had put in Sharepoint 2013 with the sole purpose of using it as backend storage for SkyDrive Pro?
We don't want the Sharepoint web site functions but really want to use the SkyDrive Pro product for "cloud sync" for personal documents
    thanks in advance.

I already have Sharepoint installed so am comfortable to use that installation, but I don't want to put any effort into the development of the front end (Web parts, document libraries etc)
I'm quite open to buying Office 365 if you think that will help? Although I can't see why that is relevant.

File a complaint with them. Verizon will call you to fix the blunder.
But remember it is always up to the customer to insure what they are getting and what it costs. Don't trust the word of a sales person who makes their living on getting that sale. Lies, deceit or false promises will be and have been used by sales people for thousands of years.

  • SkyDrive Pro and SharePoint 2010

Why SkyDrive Pro can no longer sync SharePoint 2010 libraries? I was using Windows 8 with Office 2013 and SkyDrive Pro had no problems with synchronizing content from SharePoint 2010. Now I installed Windows 8.1 with Office 2013 and it doesn't work anymore.
Is there any way to fix it? My colleagues (with Windows 8 and Office 2013) still can synchronize content from SharePoint 2010.

Note that SkyDrive Pro does not support SharePoint 2010 so any issues you have with it won't be looked at by Microsoft.

  • Is it possible to Automate configuration of skydrive pro client for a document library

    Hi Everyone,
I would like to automate the document library url(configuration) for skydrive pro client programatically. Please let me know if this is possible and how can we do this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sailaja Kaladurgi.

It's not possible to automate that. Although you can trigger a standard word-search using JavaScript, you can't do anything with the results - they just appear in the user interface. There's no GREP functionality so you can't search for an extended block of page content, and there's also no way to select or extract a specific region of a page into a new file using scripts.
The only way I could think of doing this would be in InDesign - assuming each question starts with a distinct element that can be GREPped for, you could separate each one onto a new page by running a search/replace that add a page break in front of the element. You can then export all the 'single-question' pages as images, and use PS automation to trim the whitespace.

  • SkyDrive Pro - Renaming folders and sync locations

I'm trying to understand the SkyDrive Pro feature. Of course it ain't really SkyDrive as all references point to the old Groove application. I like how Groove moved from Groove --> SharePoint Workspace --> SkyDrive Pro..
I can change the Sync location via the UI like explained here:
Change the location where you sync SharePoint libraries on your computer
This doesn't help if I want to rename the sync folder of document libraries on my local drive.
There's two problems I have with the local folders:
The sync folder name is trimmed to 35 characters. That makes it hard to distinguish different document libraries from the same site if the site name is long. I currently have a set of folders named like so: "<long sitename> ... - Doc" and
"<long sitename> ... - Pro". These libraries are actually called "Documents and "Protocols".
Different O365 Tenants create different root folders.
I m now wondering about problem one. I have found the Access (!) Sync DB under C:\Users\gaida\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\OfficeFileCache\CentralTable.accdb (no google results yet on the architecture). In that Sync DB I found all local locations
under the SubCache table as well as the OutgoingEvents. Changing the local locations there doesn't work - SkyDrive Pro forgets about the folders right away and I have to re-synch them. That means those locations are not the right way to change stuff.
Has anyone any more insight information on how SkyDrive Pro works? I also found the secret Telespaces path with the *.xss files - these also look promising, are not editable with a text editor though.
Basically my question is how SkyDrive Pro works and how I can rename the local sync folders.
