Does a wireless printer need to be on the TC network or can it remain on the FIOS router network

I have a verizon FIOS router with one wireless network...connected to it are 3 laptops, 2 HP wireless printers and numerous things like TV's, wii and Apple TV...when I set up a new TC and use it as my router for my Macbook Pro will I be able to print to the printers if I leave them on the FIOS network?..I of course will have the TC connected to the FIOS router via a ethernet cable. Its a pain to reset up all the numerous devices to a new network. Since the TC is connected to the FIOS router is it safe to assume something connect to the TC is also connected to the FIOS wireless network??

yes we got sidetracked into the extending thing..I don't want to do that I want to do what you mentioned latter..2 different networks I was planing on leaving my TV's, blueray, WII on the FIOS network but connect the laptops to the TC N network..and I'm now sure I'll have to set up the wireless printers on the TC network or the laptops wont see them..
So I will do as you mentioned in another post and:
Here is how to hook up your Time Capsule to the FIOS router:
Connect an ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the FIOS router to the WAN (circle of dots icon) port on the Time Capsule.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility and click Continue to follow the guided setup to configure your Time Capsule.
Page 1 will ask you to assign a name and device password for the Time Capsule
Page 2 you want to choose the option to Create a wireless network
Page 3 will ask you choose a name for the wireless network and a password
Page 4 you want to select the Bridge Mode option
Page 5 select Configure IPv4 using DHCP. Leave everything else blank
Click Update to save your settings and the Time Capsule will restart in 25-30 seconds and you should have a green light.
You can now log on to the Time Capsule wireless network by locating the name of the network and entering the wireless network password.
It is possible that having two routers in close proximity both producing a wireless network may introduce wireless interference effects between the two networks. If you experience this, you will need to turn off the wireless on the FIOS router.

    Hi,
Apple's AirPrint only support specific models while using wired or wireless network connection.
Plugging a printer into a USB port of Apple base is not supported for AirPrint:
AirPrint printers connected to the USB port of the Apple AirPort Base Station or Time Capsules are not supported with AirPrint.
As well you must use AirPrint enabled printers for a such, none of your printers are AirPrint enabled:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
There are 3rd party solutions which allow sharing a printer connected to your Mac as AirPrint, Printopia as example provide a such:

  • I have Verizon FiOS service for phone, internet and TV but I only have one TV hooked up for it for just basic cable service with no DVR and no need for widgets.  Can I use an Airport Extreme as my router and not use the FiOs router?

I want to use an Airport Extreme as my router.  I currently have a Verizon FiOS router.  I have Verizon for phone, internet and TV.  However, TV-wise, I just have a basic service for one TV with just a regular box.  No HD, no DVR.  Don't need access to a menu, widgets, on-demand.  Can I eliminate the FiOS Router and just use the Airport Extreme and still have phone and internet?

I know that it will increase my wireless coverage in my house but will it increase the speeds?
Not sure what you are asking here.  The AirPort Extreme is only going to be as fast as the Internet connection that it receives.....which is 75/75. It cannot take a 75/75 connection and make it go any faster.
If you locate the AirPort Extreme in an area where you need more wireless signal coverage, the AirPort Extreme would deliver 75/75 in that area.  But, keep in mind that the AirPort Extreme must connect to the FIOS router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection.
If you are asking if the AirPort Extreme can wirelessly connect to the FIOS modem router, and extend the FIOS wireless network, the AirPort Extreme would not be compatible with a FIOS product for that purpose.

Is there a performance difference between GPT and MBR? If GPT is better, I do not mind formatting the drive with it.

I read through this, and it looks like the problem was fixed in a BIOS update, which I plan to do. However, it also seems like Intel Rapid Start is not even worth it in the first place, as sleep consumes almost no power at all.

  • Updated on 12/20 now can not print on HP5520 wireless printer need help!

Since doing update on 12/20/13 I can no longer print from firefox on my wireless HP 5220 printer. Please advise how to correct or can I revert to the older version of firefox that did print on wireless printer. Worked great before update. Now not at all happy.

Do you get an error message, or is the printer missing from the dialog, or just nothing comes out??
To see whether the problem is in Firefox's settings, could you check this article if you didn't already try it: [[Fix printing problems in Firefox]].
To see whether the problem is that an HP add-on got disabled, you could check your Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. The disabled ones cluster toward the bottom. Anything HP or printing related down there?

  • Can't get my 3050 wireless printer to work. Did the very first time. I have Windows 7 Starter.

I've done all of the resets and basic trouble shooting (including resetting the printer and laptop). Does not appear to be connecting to my wireless router.

Even though this printer isn't wireless, there is a way to to use it wirelessly!
    Here's what you need:
Google Chrome on whatever computer you're trying to use the printer from
a Google account so you can sign into chrome
DO THESE FIRST STEPS ON THE COMPUTER THAT THE PRINTER IS ALREADY CONNECTED TO VIA USB CABLE
okay so what you have to do is open up chrome and in the top right hand corner there is a little button looks like three stacked horizontal lines
click that and sign into google chrome (a gmail account works or create a new account)
then what you have to do is click that same button and go to settings
scroll all the way down and click advanced settings
once again, scroll all the way down until you get to Google Cloud Print
click manage and then click add printers
it will go to another screen and you should be able to search/add the hp deskjet (this may take a little patience)
once everything is connected, all that is left is to print
go to the customize and control button (that 3 horizontal lines button in the top right hand corner in crhome)
go to settings > advanced settings > cloud print > manage and click the hp deskjet
on the left hand side click print and click upload file to print
then pick whatever fille you want to print and WAHLAA! its printing (as long as ur printer is powered on of course)
this way you can print wirelessly without losing formatting like you would if you uploaded it to google docs
now you can print to this printer from any computer as long as you are signed in from chrome and the printer is on! MAGIC
    hope that helps(:

  • How do you set up for AirPrint an HP110A wireless printer without a PC on a wifi network using a Verizon FIOS router)

Purchasing an HP110A wireless printer for my 85 year old father who has and Ipad
This pritner is fully compatible with Airplay per HP site
    My dad has no PC
    He knows the router passcode.
    What is the process?
Will the HP printer to be purchased shortly work out of the box w/no drivers
How do you set the printer up to work on the iPad?

    Richard-
I have the HP D110 AirPrint printer.  As I recall, it was configured in Ad Hoc network mode when first received.  It was necessary to set it up to access my WiFi router before I could use it with the internet connection.  Then, as part of the setup process, it downloaded the latest firmware update from HP.  This was all done from the printer control panel, and no PC was needed.
As Pvonk mentioned, your router must be able to correctly handle Bonjour data for iPad to print to an AirPrint printer.  Go ahead and try it, it may work.  If the iPad can't find the printer, you will need to contact Verizon for help in configuring the router or getting a different router that is compatible.
By now, you should realize that a PC is needed to update the iPad.  I assume your Dad visits you when he needs use of a PC.

  • Wireless printing with 2 (or more) printers + manual network configuring

    Here's my previous question:
Network configuration: Cable modem (Linksys)-Wired cable router (Linksys)-Airport Extreme Base Station. Wired cable router is used for VOIP phone which is left on 24/7. Base station is shut off when not in use. I had 2 printers, HP multifunction and Samsung color laser printer connected to the Airport via a USB hub, but I could only print from 1. The printer I wanted to use had to be ON and then the Airport turned on to recognize it. So, I purchased a dLink DPR-1260 wireless printer hub. It had to be configured with a Windows operating system, which I did with an XP business laptop. The printer hub had to be configured wired and then the Cat 5 cable removed. The IP address: 10.0.1.2 (dynamic) is what Airport gives whenever anything is plugged into that port. MAC address: 001E589D8035 (which is what the printer hub says on it). SSID is correct. Raw TCP port and LPR/LPD enabled. Re-established Firewall and WPA2 security. Both printers work fine (even scan on HP) wirelessly with Windows XP laptop.
However, neither printer works with either MAC (G5 or iBook) Although they both (HP & Samsung) appear to be ready and start the printing process by downloading percentages of the job.
New info: The IP address of the dLink (DPR-1260) print server is now 10.0.1.3 (Airport is 10.0.1.2) I can connect to 10.0.1.3 thru Safari (or Firefox) and see the device info. I can't configure there. dLink told me to manually configure in network preferences. Their instructions told me to manual change the print server address to 102.168.0.x (x not 10). Then make Appletalk active. When I tried to add the DPR-1260 on the network is said IP Config 10.0.1.3 in use by 00:1e:58:9d:80:35 I guess I need to start over. How can I add the DPR-1260 manually to the network?

    xee -
You have two simultaneous problems. Print Server setup, and network-capable CUPS driver required for each printer. Unless either printer is a postscript one, the drivers provided by the manufacturers are Carbon-type, limited to exactly what they programmed it for - probably USB only. That's why Airport Extreme/Express have an advantage over other print servers - Apple has put Mac-to-Mac printer sharing into Extreme/Express, so a USB-only driver works over the network. Other print servers require use of the industry-standard comm protocols LPD or raw port 9100 (=HP Jetdirect) or IPP. Those standard protocols are provided by CUPS and you have to use a CUPS driver with them.
    Make it work:
    1. Allow the print server to get its IP address just as it has.
    2. Install CUPS drivers:

  • Airport Extreme Base Station- wireless printer- wired computers able access the printer

Airport with a wireless printer- will wired computers be able to access the printer?

    Yes.
A printer on your network is accessible to any computer on the same network. Wired or wireless makes no difference.

  • Help! Is there a limit to number of wireless devices defined in the FIOS router?

    My current settings:
I have an Actiontec MI242WR router at home for my FIOS Internet/TV connections.  Security setting in the router is set to WPA2 and SSID broadcast is set to 'Disabled'. We've had this router for a number of years and everything seems to work fine.
    My issue:
Currently, I have 10 wireless devices defined in the router, set to be the only devices accepted by the router. they are all normal devices such as laptops, printers, smartphones, etc, defined through menus (Wireless settings/Advanced security settings/wireless MAC authentication).
They all work fine but it seems when I add a new wireless device, it drops one of the previously defined devices from the list. Can't remember if drops the last or the first one previously defined. I'm trying to add about three or four more wireless devices to the list but can't afford to drop any of the other ones. Is this a limitation of this router? Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to buy my own router to replace it with? Thanks for your help in advance
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

#1 With MAC Address filtering there are the following problems/issues:
    a) Regardless of the type of encryption (Wireless encryption types include WEP, WPA, WPA2) MAC Address(es) are always sent in the clear!
    b) Not only it is possible to spoof/clone a MAC address in a NAT router..
For example as noted as shown at http://ui.linksys.com/files/WRT54G/v8/8.00.0/WanMAC.htm
..it is also possible to spoof/clone the MAC Address on a computer!
    c) If an attacker user does not know how to spoof/clone a MAC address without encryption: While they can not use your network, they can see what you are doing!
#2 So just use the highest level of wireless encryption that all of your gear supports.

  • Can I disable my Verizon Fios Router Wireless radio, connect it to a switch and use my airport express as my wireless access point connected to an in wall ethernet port?

Here's the deal.  I have a Verizon Fios MI424WR router.  My house has CAT5 throughout the house.  The media panel is located in the garage.  I want to take the Verizon Fios Router and cannot it in the media panel so I can connect a switch to it, that way, all my CAT5 can fire throughout the house. Verizon being Verizon decided to connect the router directly in the office.
Can I go this route (Router in media panel, switch cross connect to it) and use Airport Express, connected to one of the in-wall CAT5 ports in my house and then set it up as my wireless access point to provide wifi to my portable devices (iPad, iPhone, Macbook)?  Is this possible? Will Airport Express comminicate with my verizon router via ethernet in-wall? Do I have to turn off the wireless radio in the Verizon router?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That is right, by hard wired I was just making clear wired vs wireless attachment.  AirPort family of devices will only act in a repeater mode with their own family members, not FiOS routers.  they have to be wired to work.
There are some useful docs you can download from Apple, Support, Manuals, Peripherals, AirPort (just follow thos links from the Support button on the top bar):
    Apple AirPort Networks
    Designing AirPort Networks
    AirPort Express Setup Guide
The last has a diagram of what you are trying to do, though without the house wiring, etc., but the basic principle.

  • Need help Setting up Multiple Static Ip , 1 for each port of the fios router

Need help Setting up multiple Static Ip on my fios router
I have been trying to figure out how to set up multiple ip in my fios router.
However I kind of managed how to set up multiple static ip However the way I want it is for each port of my router to have an external ip signed to it. ( like 4 different modem in 1 )
Verizon gave me 5 static ip but they can not help me how to set it up.
Have anyone here done more then one static ip on different ports? I assume that the process will be the after the second static ip.

You want to set up Static Nat. You will not assign the IP to a port, but rather to a local machine. Figure out what machines you want your IP's to go to. Under the firewall section you will see static nat. Pick the machine you want and enter one of the IP's you were assigned.

  • My ipad with retina display can't find my epson artisan 730 wireless printer. They are on the same network and printer's wireless connection is excellent. What are the steps to fix this?

My imac won't pick up the printer either. Even after I updated it's software.  My ipad is new.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

No change. The printer still doesn't show up on my devices even though they are all on the same network.  On the printer's connection print out the connection reads Pass and that the network is working correctly.  However, then it states "*A router/access point channel conflict has been detected. If you have problems printing or scanning, Improve your wireless network environment." "*If the problems persist, see your documentation for help and networking tips."
I've gone through all the documentation and still can't figure out what the problem is.  I've had the router checked out by my building and they claim everything is in order.  I have a excellent signal.

  • I have Fios. I have the TC connected via ethernet to the Fios router. TC WAN port ethernet to Fios Lan port. Then I just have the TC create a wireless network that is different than the Fios wireless network. How do I set up an Airport Extreme to the TC?

The Airport Extreme is a 4th Gen unit. I just want to keep the TC wireless name to go further through my house.

The Ethernet connection will be from one of the LAN <-> ports on the TC to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the AirPort Extreme.
Then you can use AirPort Utility - Manual Setup to configure the AirPort Extreme as follows:
Click the Wireless tab located just below the row of icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network (Not "extend a wireless network" as many users incorrectly think)
Wireless Network Name = Same name as your TC network
No check mark needed next to "Allow this network to be extended"
    Radio Mode = Automatic
    Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Same setting as the TC network
Wireless Password = Same setting as the TC network
    Confirm Password
    Click the Internet icon
    Click the Internet Connection tab
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Update to save settings and restart the entire network
Computers on the TC network will now be able to move to the area where the AirPort Extreme is located and not have to "switch" networks. This is known as a "roaming" network.

  • Does iPad support wireless printing

I see that the new iPad has iPhoto can u connect iPad wireless to a printer?

It does support wireless printing. The printers that are listed on this page support AirPrint (the iPad and printer just need to be on the same wifi network for AirPrint printers) : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356 . If your printer isn't listed then you will need an app - the printer manufacturer may have their own app in the store that supports it, or there are a number of third-party printer apps.
