Does anyone else have a "*" show up in front of old files once you upgrade to CS6??
When I open files from an older version of InDesign, the files now have a strange "*" on the front of them? What is this? and why does it happen?
What problem are you talking about ? It is not a problem, it is just an indicator reminding you that the file has not been saved. And because you open files that have been created in an older version, you see this asterisk because they are considered as been modified once you open them with a new version.

Does anyone else have Mountain lion stability issues that cause a crash once a week?
I have a mid-2011 27-inch iMac with 16GB ram and upgraded to Mountain lion as soon as it was available (like always for last 5 years); 8th Mac I've owned. Early on there were a few bugs and issues that I thought would go away just like previous upgrades. But it's been half a year now and I crash about every other day! This is by far the worst Apple OS change ever, from a stability perspective. What happens is I will do some mundane task (could be anything really) that will give be a spinning beach ball and then it gets worse. No programs respond and eventually the only thing to do is complete power off shutdown. What triggers this: clicking to open photo in Aperture, clicking a website icon in Safari, clicking upgrade software in App Store, running a backup with time machine, etc. etc. I can't detect any pattern as it's happened a lot. I'm a photographer so I spend more time in Aperture than most users and see a lot of crashes from there, but it's not just Aperture. This is getting to be like MS Windows. Apple - help! Please fix this OS before I have to buy a PC for better stability.

After updating to IOS8, my iPad 2, which has both AT&T cellular and wifi, needs to be completely turned off and rebooted to get cellular service. Does anyone else have this issue ?

When I watch streaming shows or movies on my Air the contrast is lousy. If it's a dark scene you can hardly see anything. Does anyone else have this issue? I've got it as bright as it lets me go.
It seems that my pioneer DVD drive ate my disc and no matter what I do, I can't get it out.
What have you done so far? Provide details on what you have done to date in the way of troubleshooting and the results. In doing so, the helpers here will avoid the "been there done that" response scenerio.

how hard is it to take the iMac apart?
If your model iMac is not user repairable, do a Google search for DIY instructions. Two places to start is iFixit and YouTube's tutorials.
What is a good replacement for it?
External CD/DVD burners. Check out OWC & Lacie websites for CD/DVD drives. Make sure you read the system requirements for the drives.

My new IPad mini has poor wifi reception. It goes in and out. My IPod, Iphone4, Ipad1 and Ipad2 work fine. What can I do? Does anyone else have this problem?
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

after the newest update ( iso 7) , i can no longer type in traditional chinese ( pin yin), does anyone else have the same problem?
I downloaded and tried EasyFind. It works but it took 30+ seconds to complete finding 3 files that are on One of my Five 25+ Gb partitions of my 130 Gb Seagate Cuda(Really 160 Gb, but my Sawtooth will only recognize 130) I figured that if I ever got a better box, I could reformat it to see the whole 160 Gb. So, as far as I can see, Spotlight's indexing scheme which finds the files instantly is probably preferable. Spot light allows you to rename your files from within it's app window. I've always thought that was pretty powerful. Could my doing so be causing me any issues? As i said it is the inability to Type in the Finder that seemed to be caused from changing file Extentions that were mis-written. Maybe it was a delayed reaction to my renaming files in the Spotlight app? I've done both on occasion.
As for these .DS_Store files. Apparently you can NOT stop them from being written to any folder that you touch/open/view during a days session. But, as a function of the OS, are the essential to have in their respective folders Forever? I've looked at the .DS_Store terminator app briefly and assume that getting rid of these files won't hurt the regular operation of my OS. They will just be re-written if I ever have to go back to any particular folder again. But, apparently, some have said that if the plan on burning a CD or DVD of their data, they delete the .DS_Store files first and then do the burn.
I'm thinking from your having suggested this tremination app that you suspect that my having all of these ,DS_Store files could be a situation where any of them could have become corrupted and terminating them regularly should be part of my regular maintenance.
Does that sound like I'm understanding what I can do?

So, This is ATV #2. The first one got sent back because during play, after 30 mins, TV would go black. ATV light would still be on, but no audio, video......Also when in standby, no audio/video would work when We brought it out of standby.
ATV #2 didn't have any problems...... Till now. Now it plays, but like the last one, when in standby, doesn't want to come out....No audio/video..... At first thinking it was the ATV, but could it be the tv?
I have a 46" Sony Bravia...Everything else works fine on the TV. Does anyone else have this problem of it not waking up from standby????
It's driving me crazy!!! Any help or advice will be much appreciated!!!!!!Next time it happens switch to a different input on the TV, then switch back and see if you have video, or turn the TV off and then turn it back on again. It's possible it could be the TV, for example, if it ignores the input after a certain period of inactivity and fails to detect when the ATV comes out of standby. It could be an HDMI issue between the ATV and your TV. A number of people have experienced HDMI anomalies with specific make and model TVs.

does anyone else have the problem of some tools not working in lightroom 4? for eg. skin smoothing and iris enhance??
The background music I chose was a standard Apple Loop, but on playback it sounds like someone has cut the music, each time the Loop connects to the extended loops I made when I dragged the end of the initial loop out over a short distance? Did I do it wrong?
When you extend the loop by dragging the the end of the loop (you'll see a bracket as cursor), you will extend the loop by silence and hear a sharp cut. To make the loop longer, loop it. Grab it in a way, that you'll see a curved arrow as pointer and not the bracket. -
When I type my email address in the "To:" field, a random name comes up next to it as "Holidays in United States". This just started happening out of the blue and I have no idea why. Does anyone else have any idea?
Just to recap, this is a collection of ports I have collected over time for people who needed this information when setting up the HP ePrint app so that they could view their email from within the app. I am certain other applications also need this information. Although lengthy, I could not find a more comprehensive place to retrieve this information. Feel free to post additional information, faulty information, or other related topics below as this is simply a collection of data and it would be practically impossible to test all of them. I'm having a lot of problems sometimes signing into Game Center, or when the game itself is loaded I will click on something and it pretty much crashes and goes back to desktop! This is very annoying. Just not sure why this keeps happening. Does anyone else have this problem and know what the cause of it may be?
My guess would be you don't have enough memory available to run the games that you are trying to play. This is not supposed to happen in iOS - but I have seen too many instances to believe that the iOS can handle it properly all of the time. My suggestion would be to close all apps in the recents tray, reboot and start over again and see if that helps.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
The problem could be something else software related and restoring the device might help, but I would start with this and see how it goes. -
ITunes New Release - Printing a playlist to my printer the header prints, but the song list all print in the same place. I am able to print from any other source. Does anyone else have this problem? Not sure if I should completely uninstall my ITunes and reload from scratch. Sure would appreciate any help you could provide as I really need to get some playlists printed now. Thanks - Scott
There is another discussion of this problem under "can't print cd jewel case inserts"--about 20 people on that page have the same problem.--I have a "band-aid" fix for anyone is in a hurry. When you go to print, choose the option "large playlist" (I think it is the last option). You can then print at least the songs that are on the playlist. Then, you can print a mosaic copy to get the album art work. Then you get out the scotch tape & tape them together! This is UNACCEPTABLE but it will do in a pinch. Someone on the other page suggests we all write in "itunes" feedback & complain.
