i want to get a refurbished macbook pro and want to get rid of my ibook now that my podcast is getting more popluar and i am starting to do more things than just basic stuff. i just want to know if apple will buy back an ibook and if they do that type of stuff and if so how i would go about doing that. thanks. that's all.

Look on thier website, there is some sort of recycling program, but honestly? You'll get more money if you sell your device outright then use the proceeds towards a new one. For an iPad 2 you can probably get 150 - 200ish for it (just look for sold devices on ebay to get a realistic idea of paid prices)

Apple don't offer this kind of trade in. They have a recycling program in place that gets you 10% off the price of a new iPod if you hand in your old one at the time of purchase. You can do this (I believe) at any Apple store.
However, you may think that your iPod is worth more than 10% off the cost of a new one, and perhaps want to sell it on eBay instead.

If you use the one iTunes account between the two of you then you can both download the ibook onto your iPads - I have some of my ibooks on both my iPad and iPhone. If you decide to have separate iTunes accounts then if you use the same computer's iTunes to sync to (with both accounts authorised on it) then you should be able to sync the book to iBooks on both devices.
If you have separate accounts and sync to separate computers then you can copy the ibooks between the computers via, for example, a flash-drive and add it to the second computer's iTunes (File > Add To Library). First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
Could also be not enough free space for the iPad to operate efficiently. With iOS 7 it is recommended that you have 15-20% of the storage space on the device free. For a 16 GB device that is 2.4-3.2 GB free. For a 32 GB device that is 4.8-6.4 GB free. For a 64 GB device that is 9.6-12.8 GB free.
If neither of these suggestions helps, Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.
