Does upgrading to iOS 4.2 reset the Parent Control password?
A month or two ago, I updated my son's iPod Touch 3G from version 4.1 to version 4.2 via my computer (not his).
Sometime later, I discovered that my son had set the Parent Control password to something completely different, and all of the parent controls had been turned off.
My son claims that the update had reset the password, and he set it to a different password, which he did give to me when I discovered the change. (I won't go into his excuse for setting a new password.)
I am suspicious. I have not found any evidence on the web of parent controls being reset by an upgrade, and I think it would be poor design to have an upgrade reset the parent control password.
So, if you upgrade an iPod Touch on a computer which is not its primary computer, does the password and parent control settings get reset?

When upgrading his iPod Touch, I did not sync it to my computer. After the upgrade, all his settings (Mail, apps, etc.) were still working. I have my own iPod Touch that I do sync to my computer, and it has no parent control settings enabled, nor a parental control password. I keep my iPod Touch at version 3.1.3, for development purposes. I'm running 10.6.5, iTunes 10.
Please answer only if you know (e.g., you've tested this) or if you have a conjecture as to why this might indeed happen. I'm not in the mood for any parenting lessons.

HenryYou are absolutely correct. A simply update to the latest version of iOS will not restore the device to factory settings. If you did the update yourself, at the end of the installation you would have been presented with an option to restore from backup or setup as a new device. Of course you would have chosen to restore from backup because you say that all email and apps were exactly as before. The restrictions are carried over exactly as before when you restore from backup, including the restrictions passcode and any settings you had selected.
The only conclusion (if the sequence above is correct) that can be made is that someone intentionally restored the device to factory settings after the upgrade and then setup a new restrictions passcode.
Having said that, these statements in your description are contradicting each other:

How exactly the upgrade happened could tell you if you made a simple mistake or if he or someone else intentionally restored the device. -

Try making a new Apple ID? I don't really understand what you mean.. Make a new apple ID, log in with that one and then when you are on your phone log out of it and THEN log in our old ID? If you still can't log in the old one then it's most probably a bug or something.. Anyway.. Good luck with your problem!!

Ive set up the WiFi entered in my key etc etc ( and yup it is switched on,) yet every day (while i am at home) i see a pound comes off my credit, i thought maybe it was because i was opening my phone while i was still in say my mailbox and in those seconds i was connecting to wifi i was being charged, but even left in my home sceen i still get the charges....but then my mailbox is constantly being updated .....
how do i avoid these costs without buying conracts

that is why my user name is stupidgirlWifi and mobile data are separate ways of connecting to the internet. All you need to connect via wifi is a working phone and a usable wifi point; there are no charges unless you're using a commercial point such as a hotel. Mobile data is subject to whatever charges apply under your phone contract.
You'll need to ask O2 what the £1 charges are, but I suppose it could be that you connected via the mobile network instead of wifi. Unless you want permanent connection to the internet for some reason (do you really need to read your emails as soon as they arrive or examine Farcebook every few minutes?), why not keep both wifi and mobile data switched off until you need them? You can then choose how to connect depending on whether you're by a usable wifi point. Saves battery use also.

Each morning when I open CalmRadio on my Surround System which come from iTune through Apple TV I have to reset the Apple TV to get the signal through. I tought it was the result of a recent change of my router but I just remember that I have installed iCloud recently. I'd say your router, iCloud hasn't caused me any problems. It may be settings or interference.
Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. -

Did you try a reset, hold the power button and home button until you see the apple then let go? Did you try to restore as new in iTunes on your computer?

The Mac, it's OS and the iLife apps are still associated with the original owners Apple ID.Normally the original owner needs to follow the process to prepare a Mac for selling or giving it to someone else. They need to call Apple Care and request that their Apple ID be disassociated from the Mac, erase the Mac and install the most recent version of OS X that shipped on the Mac, reinstall the iLife apps and deauthorize the Mac from their iTunes account.
If you have a bill of sale of some sort and can prove the Mac beongs to you, Apple may be able to assist you. Call Apple Care and explain the issue. -
