  • I started to update my macbook pro and was told i needed to restart, which i did. that  was about 6 hours ago and all i see is an apple and a rotating circle. what do i do?

    ! started to update my system and was told to restart. I did. it has now been about 6 hours and all i see is an apple and a rotating circle. what is happening?

    Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
    The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
    There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.a. Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. Connect the two Macs with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable. The internal drive of the machine running in target mode will mount as an external drive on the other machine. Copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
    Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 3
    Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is damaged and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to step 5.
    If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
    If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 4
    Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 5
    Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
    This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 6
    Boot into Recovery again. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.
    Step 7
    Repeat step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a backup.
    Step 8
    A dead logic-board battery in a Mac Pro can cause a gray screen at boot. Typically the boot failure will be preceded by loss of the startup disk and system clock settings. See the user manual for replacement instructions.
    Step 9
    If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.

  • HT5622 Game says different Apple ID was used to purchase and cannot be used to purchase upgrade.. I only have one Apple ID

    Cannot purchase next level on candy crush because it says Apple ID was not used to purchase app.. I only use this one app and I've purchased next levels before.. Help!

  • Internet went down , does and a screen came up ( internet diagnostic screen) does anyone know if this is real ? said it would diagnose and send info to apple then ask for computer password and a minute after I gave it internet came back up. Real apple sea

    internet went down and a aplle diagnostic screen came up ask for password as soon as I gave it and entered within a minute internet came up again. real or Hacked? Has anyone ever seen this before     ---     internet diagnostic screen      said it was from and going to apple

    No, as I already said, they will not.  They will not repair or replace any Apple device that's even been opened by anyone else.
    In this case, the morons who butchered your phone caused a lot more damage than the broken screen.
    You should have taken it to Apple for service in the first place.

  • F.13 clearing diff. does not follow tolerance limit by GL and by User

    Hi All,
    I'm trying to set up F.13 with following tolerance limit:
    1. Tolerance Group per GL account:
         - Amount: 5,000 (Debit and Credit)
         - Percentage: 99,00% (Debit and Credit)
    2. Tolerance Group per User --> assigned to all user
         - Amount: 5,000 (Revenue and Expenses)
         - Percentage: 99,0%
    3. Tolerance group ID for GL has been assigned to GL master Data
    My scenario for this automatic clearing testing:
    1. GL Account 110xxx1:
         - Dr: 10,000 Cr: 9,001 = Difference is 999.
         - Result: can be cleared
    2. GL Account 110xxx1:
         - Dr: 10,000 Cr: 9,000 = Difference is 1,000.
         - Result: can not be cleared
    My question:
    1. Why system can clear for difference 999 but can not clear for 1,000, yet both are under tolerance limit.
    2. Is there any other tolerance limit besides these two tolerance limit?
    Thanks,
    CW

    Hi Gladys,
    Thanks for your advice. The GL account is a normal GL account, not a reconciliation account.
    Yes, I have also set the tolerance limit for the accounts i want to clear.
    F.13 can group which documents i want to clear together based on OB74 setting but at the bottom of the docs, system says "No Clearing".
    FYI, i have marked the "include tolerance" before running f.13.
    Appreciate your advice on this issue.
    Thanks,
    CW

  • What am I doing wrong with the isNew() method?  and why do I need the other methods?

    I have coded an include jsp like this.
              <%@page language="Java"%>
              <%@page import="javax.servlet.http.HttpSession"%>
              <%!
              String iContextPath;
              String iCommonPath;
              String iImagesPath;
              %>
              <%
              iContextPath = request.getContextPath();
              iCommonPath = iContextPath + "/common";
              iImagesPath = iCommonPath + "/images";
              System.err.println(" here ");
              HttpSession thisSession = request.getSession( false );
              if( thisSession.isNew() ){
              System.err.println("isnew");
              response.sendRedirect( iContextPath + "/common/login.jsp" );
              %>
              Now I also have a redirect.jsp in the root of an application that contains
              this.
              <html>
              <body>
              <%
              System.err.println("Redirecting at this time from the root");
              response.sendRedirect( request.getContextPath() + "/secureArea/");
              %>
              </body>
              </html>
              And I have a logout.java servlet that looks like this.
              package com.pch.epics;
              import java.io.IOException;
              import javax.servlet.ServletException;
              import javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet;
              import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
              import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse;
              import weblogic.servlet.security.ServletAuthentication;
              public class Logout extends HttpServlet{
              private static final String CONTENT_TYPE = "text/html";
              //Initialize global variables
              public void init() throws ServletException{
              //Process the HTTP Get request
              public void doGet( HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse
              response ) throws ServletException, IOException{
              String username = "";
              if( request.getUserPrincipal() == null ){
              username = "Unknown";
              } else {
              username = request.getUserPrincipal().getName();
              System.err.println( "ePics logging out '" + username + "'" );
              request.getSession( false ).invalidate();
              ServletAuthentication.logout( request );
              ServletAuthentication.invalidateAll( request );
              ServletAuthentication.killCookie( request );
              response.sendRedirect( request.getContextPath() );
              //Process the HTTP Post request
              public void doPost( HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse
              response ) throws ServletException, IOException{
              doGet( request, response );
              //Clean up resources
              public void destroy(){
              First of all, why won't the isNew() report a new session in the server log?
              EVERY request coming in says it's an old request (ie it's not new). The
              J2EE Applications and BEA WebLogic Server book from BEA says this should
              work.
              My second question is why do I need to do those three lines from
              ServletAuthentication to logout a user? Ok, maybe I'm from the MS world,
              but that seems excessive, especially since I've already done a
              session.invalidate() right before it, but the bea docs say I'm required to
              do all four!

    When you invalidate a session. You invalidate the session of the web
              application that your jsp/servlet is part of. It is possible to have more
              than one web application on WLS and have them share a authentication info.
              While these applications share authentication they do not share their
              sessions so because of that calling session invalidate does not kill all the
              sessions. ServletAuthentication is needed to kill all the sessions and do a
              complete logout from WLS.

  • Apple customer service said there is a payment outstanding but checked bank and the money has been taken any answers plz

    Do you no why apple are saying there is a outstanding payments but the money has been taken from my account

    Hi Cristintia,
    Just expirenced something similar. After being loyal Apple customers for 10 years I was unable to receive support because Apple doesn't support all products sold in their stores nor do they consider iPhone part of their WiFi support network.
    We recently bought an iBaby to use with our iphones as monitors. We have purchased 3 new iphones in the past 2 months. We also have 2 iBooks, 1 imac desk top, and an Airport Express. While trying to install the iBaby the Airport Expressed stopped working. My internet provider told me I needed to contact Apple. After about 40 minutes on the phone, James a senior advisor told me Apple doesn't support any of the current products we have purchased and that I would have to pay $50 for support. After telling me the solution was simple.
    Apple support should value their loyal customers. This seems like a scam to me since we have paid support on all our past products and the iPhones we just purchased. This experience has jaded me from wanting to continue being an Apple customer.

  • Apple earphones rubber peeling around jack and wire exposed due to rubber moving upward from centre of earphones will apple accept under warrenty??

    My warrenty expires 26th June 2013. I've had these earphones for 11 months but for 4 months they've seperated from the rubber casing and wire is exposed. This is literally from using them once or twice a day. The rubber casing peeled from the wires on the jack and the mic control region. Consequently, the left ear is broken and there is no sound. Will this be covered for replacement?  I don't want to send them in then be charged if they deem them not acceptable. Thanks.

    What makes you think other users would have any idea
    Take them to an Apple store ,if you cannot get to one mail them in ,you have no alternatives
    The warranty covers manufacturing defects but not user damage or misuse ,if that helps

  • My iMac has Macintosh HD and Macintosh HD 2 Need someone to answer my questions!

    Hello Everyone!, just few months ago i ordered an iMac 27inch from the official Apple website. i orderd my iMac with a 251GB Flash Storage and a 2TB SATA DISK.
    so my questions are this :
    1) Why is it called SATA disk and why is the other one called Flash Storage?
    2) how can i use my SATA disk?
    3) is the SATA disk the same as Flash storage?
    4) What can i mainly use Flash storage for? and mainly what should i use SATA Disk for?
    ( i mainly put like my whole life with the iMac on the flash storage, is that ok?)
    Whoever can answer all of my questions i will be very greatful,
    Thank you in Advance,
    Kind Regards,
    Farhad.

    Your internal hard drives are two different technologies. The 2TB disk is a spinning set of platters with a read/write head that moves across the disks. The 251 Flash Storage is a solid state configuration of memory chips, think flash card in a camera but not removable. SATA - Serial Advanced Technology Attachment. Both devices are SATA. The Flash Drive or SSD (Soild State Drive) is much faster than the 2TB drive so i would keep applications and the operating system on the SSD. Media such as videos and pictures and music would be appropriate on the 2TB drive. When editing Movies or Pictures you might get a speed improvement by working on the SSD but keep them stored on the 2TB drive. Hope this helps.

  • Bearshare was downloaded to our home computer. Now it has taken over my Firefox homepage and I can't get rid of it. I have tried changing the homepage via Tools, Options. Didnt work. Deleted the Bearshare app and cookies and web history. Still didnt work.

    Tried resetting default setting via Firefox Safemode. Didnt work. Any suggestions.?
    My situation is 2 home computers (Windows XP) sharing 1 modem, but have their own apps. Mozilla on the other computer is fine. Just this one which Bearshare was downloaded to.
    It took over the Homepage in IE too, but I was able to change it using Internet Options.
    The message which comes up when I try to change the Homepage is "An attempt to change the homepage has been blocked"
    Tks

    You only get an alert stating "An attempt to change the homepage has been blocked" if you have security software or an extension that is protecting against such a change. Firefox doesn't do that by itself. If starting in [[Safe mode]] didn't help then that only leaves security software, so you need to look to see how you can allow a home page change.

    iTunes Radio is availble to anyone with an iTunes Store Apple ID on an iOS device running iOS 7, and in iTunes 11.1. It is only ad-less if iTunes Match is active on the device.
