Does camera roll save during an iCloud backup?

I just purchased an iPad and trying to restore it with the apps and photos from my iPhone. I backed my iPhone up through iCloud and them restored my iPad with that backup to transfer my photos. The on,y photos that transferred were from my photo stream which weren't many. I was under the impression that camera roll photos saved also during iCloud backup. Am I wrong? Does anyone know how I can get my camera roll photos back? They're not on iTunes.

iCloud backup will save your Camera Roll as long as you tell it to.
Here is where you choose what items to backup with iCloud:
Settings > iCloud > Storage &Backup > Manage Storage > Select your device > all the apps will be listed. From here you can toggle on the items you want backed up with iCloud.
If your photos were never transfered to your computer and you have no iTunes or iCloud backup of them then I don't know anyway of getting them back.
It is always best practice to transfer phots/videos from your phone to your computer so they can be backed up.

You cannot see photos backed up in iCloud on your computer.
Camera Roll photos backed up to iCloud are still in your Camera Roll on your iPhone.
You need to regularly sync the photos to your computer. (then you can see them on your computer).
    -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
then delete them from your Camera Roll.
You can sync the photos you want on your iPhone back to your iPhone using iTunes.

You might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
You might then need to log out of your account on any iOS devices that you have  by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store (Settings > Store on iOS 5 and below) and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on them
If that doesn't fix it then you might need to contact iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • HT4847 Is there a way to only sync your camera roll (new pictures) to iCloud or is it an all or nothing type thing?

I'm wondering if there is anyway to change your backup settings through iCloud to only sync the camera roll as opposed to all of the other folders as well. Considering your new pictures automatically save in your camera roll, it would make sense to be able to just save the new pictures one would think. I'm pretty sure it's not possible, but I was hoping that I may be overlooking something. Thanks in advance

Photo stream only adds new photos by design.  It also only adds photos from the camera roll, not any albums (folders)*.  Photos added to the camera roll are automatically added to photo stream, once enabled.  The remain in photo stream for 30 days.  After 30 days they are deleted from photo stream, but will remain in your My Photo Stream folder until deleted.
*Any album that includes photos from your camera roll only contains links to the photos in the camera roll, not duplicate photos.  Photo stream doesn't add these "photos" because the actual photos they link to are in the camera roll.

  • Photo in camera roll not synced to iCloud

I was out in London the other day and used my phone to take some photos, at one point my phone went below 20% battery therefore any photos taken would not have synced to "my photo stream" until phone is placed on charge again then these would re-sync. However I've just noticed that I have one photo less in "my photo stream" and this is a photo taken when iPhone was below 20% battery.
Why has this photo not synced to iCloud? This should have synced once phone was on charge? Why can't I add it manually to "my photo stream".
P.s. I don't want to add it to a "shared photo stream" and I don't want to edit it the photo and save as a new copy and then the new copy is synced to "my photo stream" the photo was taken on a date and it should have synced.
Can someone please shed some light why this disruption has occurred...?
iCloud isn't perfect but it is great for automated syncing, Apple can definately improve on, I think the 1000 photos v 30 day limitation should be increased.
This sync issue has happened to me before but I need to know why this is happening and if it can be fixed. I don't understand why I can't just add it manually to "my photo stream" and it automatically uploads to the correct place so my camera roll is exactly the same "my photo stream" except videos of course until iOS7, thumbs up Apple improve upon this.

That hasn't answered why this problem has occurred and if you read my original question I said I don't want to edit the photo and create a NEW COPY! Yes of course that work but why didn't it upload in the first place!
PLEASE READ THE QUESTION BEFORE LEAVING A COMMENT!

  • I need to delete all my pictures off of my iPhone because I have run out of storage.  I have downloaded all pics to my mac but is my entire camera roll backed up on iCloud as well? I just want to make sure before I delete them from the phone.

I need to delete all my photos off my iphone because I have run out of local storage.  I have synced with my Mac but also wanted online backup.  Are all my photos from the camera roll uploaded to iCloud?  I just want to make sure I can retrieve them after I erase from the phone and in case my Mac crashes.

Import photos through iPhoto. (You will prompt to delete from iPhone when import competes).
Backup your Mac. (At least the iPhoto Library)
    Backup to iTunes.
Backup to iCloud. (Check in Settings>iCloud>Storage and Backup>Manage Storage>your device name>Camera Roll ON).

  • Messed up Camera Roll thumbnails from iPhone5 iCloud restore

Has anyone else experienced messed up thumbnails restoring from an iCloud backup to new iPhone5? There is a huge section in my Camera Roll where the 2nd and 4th columns do not display thumbnail images. Same with Photostream. I can click on the gray thumbnail and see the image so I know they're there. It is just messed up thumbnails. I'm not sure how to fix this?

I'm having the exact same problem, did you find a solution?

  • Need to free up storage space but want to make sure photos from my camera roll are definitely in iCloud before deleting them. iPad3, IOS 8.1.3

I have plenty of iCloud storage space but need to free up storage on the iPad. • Camera Roll not restoring from iCloud back-up

Due to an extremely large amount of "other" on my iPhone 5 I decided to reset / delete and restore from iCloud. Camera roll IS turned on in my cloud back-up, and I backed it up just before reset / delete phone.
When I restore from iCloud back-up everything works perfectly except my camera roll reloading. It just continues to say 'Downloading" (with the little circle thing going round & round) with no change or progress. It never says "downloadng xx of xxx" or anything like that. The photo stream has restored with no problem.
I hope I can restore the camera roll because it has videos that aren't saved anywhere else, but if not how the heck do I stop the "downloading..." at the bottom of the camera roll folder and get on with my life? Any help will be much appreciated.

Actually I posted here only after trying ezjules suggestions  No luck.  Even stranger is that even after I "stopped restoring" my camera roll is acting the same,; still says Downloading at the bottom. Strange.. Here is a screen shot after I have stopped the restore in settings.

  • HT4236 Hi, I have photo's on my i phone (that are in albums and not on the camera roll) that I want to backup to my computer. I do not seem to be able to move these pictures to the camera roll, and my computer cannot see them. How can I do this? Thanks fo

    Hello,
I have photos on my i-phone in albums (not on the camera role, and I don't seem to be able to transfer them to the camera roll) that I want to back up to my computer, but neither my computer or i-tunes can see these albums.
Any idea's as to how I can save these 500 odd photo's?
Thanks for any help that you are able to offer.
    Chris

There are only two ways pictures get on an iPhone.
    1) Pictures taken on the device that show up in the Camera Roll.
    2) Pictures synced from the computer via iTunes to the device that show up in other folders.
There is no need to back these pictures up from the iPhone to the comptuer as they already exist on the computer.

  • During manual icloud backup can i turn off my ipad

I am backing up my ipad 3 to icloud  manually but  it will take several hours.  Can I turn off my ipad while doing the icloud backup?

    You cannot turn off iPad.
    1. You should enable iCloud Backup
    2. Plug in charger
    3. Put iPad on Sleep Mode
    4. iPad will automatically backup your iPad
Note: Make sure iPad is connected to Wi-Fi
