Does configuring an endpoint opens a port in the guest VM firewall?

Hi there. I found out that if I want to access a specific port in a VM (Java RMI in my case), I have to configure an endpoint for this port. However, I was surprised that configuring an endpoint was enough to access the port. I didn't change the firewall
rules in the guest for this port and it was immediately accessible from outside Microsoft Azure.
Does configuring an endpoint opens a port in the guest VM firewall?

Hi,
According to the official article below, it indicates that "Firewall configuration is done automatically for ports associated with Remote Desktop and Secure Shell (SSH), and in most cases for Windows PowerShell Remoting. For ports specified for
all other endpoints, no configuration is done automatically to the firewall in the guest operating system. When you create an endpoint, you'll need to configure the appropriate ports in the firewall to allow the traffic you intend to route through the endpoint."

  • I have a 2T apple time capsule and router. I bought a Hauppauge WinTV extender which allows regular TV to be broadcasted on a PC. The program allows streaming to a Mac or iPad, iPhone, etc. I need to open a port on the router to allow this to work.

    I have a 2T apple time capsule and router. I bought a Hauppauge Win TV extender which allows TV to be broadcasted on a PC. The program allows for the TV to be streamed on a Mac, Iphone, Ipad. I need to access the router set up options to open a port on the router to allow this program to stream the TV to the Mac and Iphone. I do not know how to access the apple time capsule router to change the settings to open a port on the router. help please.

    Firstly you do not need to open ports to stream locally.. there is no port block in local LAN.. only WAN to LAN. So there is a good chance it is not needed at all..
    Opening ports on the TC I strongly recommend a v5 airport utility.. you can download one for windows if you don't have a Mac.. iOS version of the utility I am not sure but it will not work to do complex things.
    In the v5 utility go to the NAT area, and click on port mappings.
    Sorry I don't have a screen shot at the moment of the actual mapping page.. but simply put the IP of the device you want opened and the port.
    There are plenty of posts with this info if you google.
    But as noted.. this is purely WAN to LAN.. nothing else.

  • I need to open specific ports in the firewall - how do you do that?

    Hi There,
    I'm trying to setup a web development server on a spare mac mini but I can't figure out how to open ports for the MySQL server under Snow Leopard.
    Is there a way to do this? I've set the firewall to allow MAMP to open ports whenever it needs to but when I do a port scan of the Mac mini the MySQL port doesn't show up - SSH, HTTP and VNC do however.
    I'm happy to configure it via the Terminal but I can't find any info on how to do this in Snow Leopard as I think it's different from Leopard (based on what I've found online).
    e.g.
    $ ipfw show
    Gives me an error:
    "ipfw: socket: Operation not permitted"
    Any help would be much appreciated
    Cheers
    Ben

    After digging around it looks like Snow Leopard doesn't use ipfw for opening ports.
    Does anyone know how to open ports in Snow Leopard? Apple don't seem to have any info on this - besides the allow incoming connections for certain applications.
    Will try WaterRoof and see what happens.
    Cheers
    Ben

  • How do I port forward or open a port on the Airport time capsule to hook p a security system?

    I have an airport time capsule and a security system.  The installer doesn't know anything about using routers etc, especially on a mac.  They say I have to port forward or open a port specifically of this device.  I have very few skills when doing this IT type.  Is this hard to do?  Can I do it myself?  He wants to get an IT guy out?  $55 an hour, how long would it take?  Thanks in advance for anyone who can help!

    The method is here.
    AirPort - Port Mapping Basics using AirPort Utility v6.x
    If you need to get someone in, it depends.. The TC can be recalcitrant.. due to your setup of it following the apple guides.. and it depends on the security system and how simple that is.
    There are multiple issues.. for example how do you find your IP address from the web when you have dynamic IP from your ISP.
    Do you intend to setup dynamic DNS? Can the camera /dvr system handle Dynamic DNS?
    I recommend you read very carefully the instructions for what has been installed.. because merely opening the port is only a small part of the issues involved in remote access to the security system.

  • How do I open up a specific port in the Application Level Firewall?

    Currently, my system blocks port 2336 and I want to open this up. To be precise: port 2336 is listening on the local system, both on 127.0.0.1 and its 192.168.x.x address, but no client on the LAN can connect to port 2336.
    IPFW and PF are not running. When I turn ALF off in System Preferences, I can connect to port 2336 from a LAN client. So ALF is blocking port 2336. How can I open this up?

    Linc, thatnks for the reply. I dived into this a bit more and studied the setup of the ALF. I find it confusing, on the one hand it is mentioned in the packet filter firewall setup in /etc/pf.anchors/com.apple:
    # Application Firewall anchor point.
    anchor "250.ApplicationFirewall/*"
    OTOH, such an entry is nowhere to be found on my system and the ALF command socketfilterfw somehow seems to suggest it is a socket filter and not a packet filter and that it is indeed working at a different level, namely the level that decides which executable is allowed to listen on which socket (port).
    I am trying to find out what program is being started when I connect to port 2336 (service appleugcontrol according to /etc/services) so I can enable it with socketfilterfw. But I can't find out which program I have to enable.
    I can turn off my ALF altogether, but I am used to running a firewall on my system, even if it is behind a NAT and ports are not as easily reached from the outside. I want my internal network to have some security too. In the 10.6 days, that was ipfw. Now it is PF which is off by default. I tried IceFloor to manage the PF firewall (so I can turn the ALF off) but the result was negative. Whatever I put in the settings, it blocked about everything.
    The reason I want to open this port is that without it server-side file tracking for mobile home sync does not work and mobile home syncing by clients becomes very slow. Server-side file tracking for mobile home syncing requires that the FileSyncAgent on the client is able to create a SSH connection to port 2336 on the server. But as it stands now, ALF is blocking that.

  • Opening a port in the firewall

    I want to be able to use pulptunes, but I need to be able to open a port in my firewall (15000), how do I go about this?

    erikagwen,
    Leopard has a new "Application Firewall." What this means for you is that it will automatically configure itself to allow your application to communicate, opening ports as needed, provided you authorize it to do so. When you first launch the application, the firewall will detect the "sockets" that it creates, and ask if you wish to allow it to accept outside requests.
    It is also likely that you are behind a router, which will be running its own firewall. For this, you'll need to first determine the ports involved, then check and follow your router's documentation for forwarding those ports to your computer.

  • How do I configure safari to open external links in the existing window

    The current version of Safari (8.02) always opens an external link (such as from Mail) in a new tab.  I would like to configure so that it loads the link in the existing open tab (window).  Is there a way to do that?  If so can some one tell me how to do that?

    Linc:  I have seen that configuration page and none of those options allows you to configure Safari so that it will load an external link in an already open tab or window.  I have looked in two different reference books on OS X (Mavericks not Yosemite) and not found any relevant information in their discussions of Safari.

  • Photoshop CS5 does not want to open after I changed the scratch disks in prefs

    I was working on a large document in Photoshop CS5 that ate too much of my main drive (to the point I had to quite and restart a few times to clear it out) when the main drive was set as a scratch disk. I went in to preferences and changed the scratch disk to my secondary internal drive, where I keep all my media. Then quit Photoshop to clear the cache.
    When I tried to open Photoshop again I get a message at start up (haven't gotten in to the program yet) saying: "Could not open a scratch file because the disk is not available". Clicked OK. Then another warning message: "Could not initialize Photoshop because the disk is not available."
    Both disks are mounted and available. Since Photoshop never actually opens up I cannot go in and reset the scratch disk to my intinital settings.
    Anybody got an idea what I can do to solve this?
    Thanks,
    /Fred

    Worst case: trashing prefs by keeping ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop (and then using the dialog) should allow you to open it.

  • Why does one of our iPhone5's revert to the guest account on our wireless router?

    My wife and I have identical iPhone5's. At home we connect wirelessly to our Ethernet network through a Cisco E2000 wirelous gigabit router.
    We set the default in Settings/Wi-Fi to the main (secure) path into our router, which also offers a guest path requring password entry.
    My phone remains in that mode. Hers "loses" that info and defaults to the guest path. We can still re-select the main path manually but it is a PITA to have to do this all the time.
    How do I get the main path to remain the default?
    NI6T

    The iPhone wouldn't be reverting to the Guest network if the iPhone had not previously joined the Guest network at some point, which had to be done manually. Has your iPhone been manually connected to the Guest network in the past?
    If reverting from one to the other, connection with the primary is being lost at some point by the iPhone. A restore is probably not required. Try resetting network settings on the iPhone which will erase all saved wi-fi networks and settings from the iPhone and require re-joining every wi-fi network the iPhone has access to when returning within range of such a network. Join the main network with the iPhone and don't manually select the Guest network to join so the iPhone can't revert to the Guest network.

  • ZBF commands to open OpenVPN port in on Cisco 1812

    Hello,
    I am running an OpenVPN server on an internal private network on port 1194/UDP and would like to open this port for the internet on a Cisco 1812 router (this router uses Zone based firewall). For that purpose I have added the following configuration using the IOS CLI:
    ip nat inside source static udp 10.0.0.5 1194 interface FastEthernet0 1194
    ip port-map user-openvpn port udp 1194 description OpenVPN
    access-list 103 permit udp any host 10.0.0.5 eq 1194
    class-map type inspect match-all sdm-nat-openvpn-1
    match access-group 103
    policy-map type inspect sdm-pol-NATOutsideToInside-1
    ! other class types here for SSH & HTTP
    class type inspect sdm-nat-openvpn-1
      inspect
    class class-default
      drop log
    Unfortunately the OpenVPN port is not accessible from the outside (internet). Does anyone know what I did wrong here? or maybe did I forget a configuration parameter?
    Thanks for your help.
    Best,
    John

    John,
    The answer is, Nothing. You did not do anything wrong. Can you put logs on the Router to verify that maybe something else is being dropped?
    Login via Telnet/SSH and do in config mode:
    IP inspect log drop-pkt
    Do term mon
    Then try to initialize the VPN session and check what you get.

  • While open socket,why JDK1.4.2 open additional port byt JDK 1.4.1 do not?

    Dear All:
    I am programming swing client project
    I found an interesting difference betwen JDK1.4.1 & JDK1.4.2
    While open socket to server ,jdk1.4.2 stub in server will open random port to the "request" client
    (see below)
    ==============================
    client ----------port:7001---------->ejb server JDK1.4.2
    <--------port : ? (random)--
    =================================
    but in jdk1.4.1 ,only
    ====================================
    client ----------port:7001---------->ejb server JDK1.4.1
    ======================================
    This phenomenon ,confuesed me these days.Have any parameter to fix the socket connection rule for the latter JDK version?
    Best Regards
    john

    There's not enough info there: there should be a local and a remote port number per connection; but it's not possible the way you describe it. It's probably another connection from the client to the server, maybe for DGC?

  • Recover redemption codes/Apple configurator could not open your library

    Hi,
    I closed Apple Configurator down when a couple of iPads weren't responding and not unsupervising as they were supposed to. When I started it back up it said "Apple Configurator could not open your library. The file couldn't be opened.' I've tried restarting, updating, and searching google for a fix.
    I did come across this: Re: Apple Configurator 1.2 "The file couldn't be opened", but when I went to search for ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator, it turned out that the directory doesn't even exist.
    I don't have Time Machine enabled on this macbook, and we have a number of redemption codes at risk of being lost here as everything is saved in that configuration.
    Alternatively could someone please advise if/how it's possible to use the redemption codes we had purchased again - if we were to start again with a brand new installation of AC?
    I would greatly appreciate some support with this issue.
    Many thanks,
    Martin

    This has happened to me a few times and in each instance it has been solved by going to the computer and toggling sharing on and off. If this alone doesn't solve your problem try rebooting the computer and then the ATV.
    The error message, suggesting that you make sure your computer and ATV are on the same network isn't likely to be helpful, especially if your ATV and computer are both connected via  Ethernet. Most likely your ATV just isn't able to get a share connection from the computer and the above should solve that problem.
