Does dual-500MHz count as 1GHz? (minimum system requirement)

Time to replace the ole B$W G3 so my daughter can use Garage Band and iDVD. I'm lookin' at a used Dual-500MHz G4, but iDVD '06 needs a minimum of 733MHz processor.
My math ain't all that strong, but 500 times two exceeds 733. I can't find anywhere on Apple's site where they use this same math... so I'm nervous.
Anybody point me to a definitive Apple statement clarifying or asterisking this dual-factor when calculating processor speed?
2x1GHz/G4/QS, iBk/800/G4, B&W/350/G3   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Right now I have a 10.5.8 is there a way to upgrade or something?

Buy the Snow Leopard retail installer (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA).
That will take you to 10.6.3.
If required you can then use the combo updater to get to the latest version, 10.6.8 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399)

How do I get my software? This is the message I am hitting before my download will complete:
OS does not meet the minimum system requirements for this installer.
10.6.0 is the minimum required for installation.

    Hi,
May I know what are you trying to download ?
What is the MAC OS version you are using ?
It seems you are trying to download an application which needs atleast 10.6 MAC version
I think you are using lower version of MAC, let us know the version of your MAC , in order to help better .
To check the version  : click on Apple Button on top left
select about this MAC, you will get to know the version over there.
If its something 10.5.x , then you need to upgrade your MAC in order to install that application which needs 10.6 MAC
    Thanks,

  • IMovie 10.0 Oct 22, 2013 won't install on my Mac Pro 2008 with OS X 10.9.  Software Updater says "Your computer's video card does not meet the minimum system requirements".  I have ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB.  What card SHOULD I have?

After installing Mavericks on my 2008 Mac Pro (10GBRAM, several HDs, 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon) Software updater says there is an update available. iMovie  Apple   Version 10.0   Released Oct 22, 2013.
So I click the UPDATE button
Software Updater puts up a dialog that says "Your computer’s video card does not meet the minimum system requirements".
I have ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB.  What card SHOULD I have?
    Thanks.

It is a easy fix to this problem.
    I have this video card
    iMac 24 inch, early 2008.

    This is what you do.
    1. open app store.
    2.go to  the update tab.
Yuo will see the imovie icon waiting to install.
3.clic the sub menu tab and select "try apdate in an hour" option from the sub menu.
4.leave the app store window open and came back in an  1hr .
Like magic you will see the imovie app being upgrade it in the lunch pad .

  • Error: The installed graphics card does not meet the minimum system requirements by Aperture

I have a Mac Pro 3.1 10.5.8 and Aperture 2.1.4.  My NVida 8800gt with 512 mb was over heating so I brought and install the ATI radeon hd 5770 to replace it.  Now when I try to start Aperture I get this message "Error: The installed graphics card does not meet the minimum system requirements by Aperture".  All other software works fine, ie photoshop elements and Safari.  When I install my old card aperture will open with no problem, but of course the card will overheat within 10 mins and I will have no video.  I have search on google with no luck.  Will upgrading to Aperture 3 fix this problem?

    5770 requires 10.6.5.
The 8800GT - there is the 350* bake in over 10 minutes - 50% or better chance
you can find 8800GT on http://myworld.ebay.com/macvidcards/

Fan control helps with FBDIMMs which need to be kept under 70C too.

When I try to update my iMovie to be Maverick compatible, this is what I get " Your computer’s video card does not meet the minimum system requirements."  Any suggestions?  Thanks

I have a Mac Pro earley 2008 with 16gb ram and the original ATI Radeon 2600 XT 256mb ram card.
After searching everywhere and finding no helpful info I just went to amazon and serched video cards for Mac Pro. The Asus HD 6450 silent and others came up. They all show PC compatibatily but since Mac is now PC structure I think allmost any card will work that is PCI-e.
I purchased the Asus HD 6450  for $39.00 with $10 rebate and it worked great, ( plug and play ).
My startup is way faster than before and graphics are way better.
The DVI works great with my Viewsonic and if you need to connect more than one monitor the DVI and VGA are secondary. If your main monitor is HDMI than you will have no problems using more than 2 screens in sharing mode.

I am not 100% sure this is the issue, but I saw a different thread about the ATI Radeon HD 2600 not being OpenCL compatible for another program and that a newer compatible graphics card would be required to solve the problem.  I am getting the same message with my 2007 iMac 24".

It is just as the message says. Your video card is not compatible.
You can add a compatible graphics card and use FCP X with your mac.  I can't suggest which one, but maybe other people on this forum can guide.
And you may also get good suggestions in the Mac Pro forum.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 Minimum System Requirements

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi....You're my only hope
I own a Dual 867 MHz Power PC G4 with 1.25 GB of ram and want to purchase Final Cut Studio 2, OS X v10.5 Leopard and Adobe Photoshop CS3. I know Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Leopard are compatible, However what concerns me is Final Cut Studio 2. These are the Minimum System Requirements stated [A Mac computer with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4 or G5, Intel Core Duo, Intel Core 2 Duo, or Intel Xeon processor] So my question is would Final Cut Studio 2 work efficiently or even at all on my computer? My thinking is with collectively 1734 GHz power it should work, But i could also be delusional. I really would hate to end of buying it only to find put it won't work.
    Thanks in advance!!!

If you're LUCKY, you might find a replacement processor card for your MDD Powermac G4 - (ideally dual 1.42GHz) - maybe eBay? - maybe from a Mac "breakers yard"? or someone selling off parts from a blown motherboard example?
It's a drop-in replacement, assuming you're OK with a screwdriver and replacement thermal paste.
    Edit: Hey! There you go:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-Processor-1-25-Ghz-Dual-661-2707_W0QQitemZ220236017864
(Actually, you might be better putting that money towards a MUCH better Mac.)

  • Is there a minimum system requirement workaround?

I know that developers recommend, or force, minimum system requirements for a reason, to give the users the best experiance. However, this negates system upgrades (especially from third-parties). For example, I wish to run encyclopaedia britannica 2007 on my dual 1.6GHz powermac G4, the minimum being a G5 processor. Surely this configuration is enough. My question is 'is there a way I can bypass this check on, not just britannica, but other software (e.g. is there an application to 'fool' the system)?' Thanks alot.

One thing to note is that developers usually will not support their products on systems that don't meet the published minimums. So if you get it to install but have a problem, it''s quite likely that the publisher will refuse to assist. So think about that before purchasing any product that doesn't meet the minimums.
And I'd highly recommend that you confirm that any such product will at least install on your system before you buy the software; some installer checks flat cannot be bypassed.
is there an application to feign higher system components?
    No.
