Does DVI to Video adapter send both s-video and composite simoutanesly?

Hi,
I´m wondering if you connect the DVI to Video adapter on the new MacMini (DVI to s-video+composite), does the Mini send BOTH s-video and composite at the same time?
If connected to TV and projector, I want to see both simotanesly, not neede to change something in the setup...
The both having same resolution I guess is a must!
Regards,
Pat

Yes, many think, but i´ve havnt heard anyone whoose sure?! Can´t be such a odd thing, connect a Mini to two displays at same same time...

  • Does the video adapter output both S-Video and Composite simultaneously?

I have a multi-zone receiver which converts S-Video to component for the main zone and passes S-Video signals through to zone 2 but does not convert them to composite which is how that zone is set up. I solved a similar problem with my DVD player by connecting both the component output and composite output of the DVD player to the receiver allowing high quality viewing in the lounge room and passable viewing in the bedroom.
I realise the quality from the adapter is questionable particularly for composite but I'm still interested if both S-Video and composite signals are output from the MBP 17" via the adapter simultanesouly.
    Thanks,
    Max.

I have a follow-up question which may help answer the original question. Does the MBP have to detect the external display when connected via S-Video/Composite in the same way that it has to when connected via DVI? My Dell notebook had so much trouble detecting composite and S-Video connections that eventually I gave up so I'm a little "once bitten twice shy" on this. If the MBP doesn't attempt to detect the external display via S-Video or composite then it must output both S-Video and Composite signals continuously (which would be great).
    Thanks,
    Max.

  • I need a DVI-Video adapter or a MiniDisplayPort-Video adapter to capture analog sources in my Mac.

I need a DVI-Video adapter or a MiniDisplayPort-Video adapter to capture VCR and analog sources. Which is the right one for the Mac Pro (Early 2009 with NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 board)? Because i´ve seen a couple of cables but they say it´s just for Power Mac G5. I need exact model for my mac pro. I found this one but its´ just for Mac Pro with with ATI X1900 XT. The question is which one do I need for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 board? Is is the same one?

There was a similar post just the other day with what I think is the same confusion.  You said,
I need a DVI-Video adapter or a MiniDisplayPort-Video adapter to capture VCR and analog sources.
And the way I read that is you want video input (keyword you used was "capture").  Is that what you really want?  If so adapters you are looking at is for video output, i.e., to send video from your computer to a display device (e.g., a TV or monitor).  If you really want to video input (into your computer) then a simple cable isn't going to work.  You need a pci card that handles such functionality.

  • Separate audio from video - I want BOTH an audio and video file

    Hi,
I would like to separate audio from video - I want BOTH an audio and video file.
I don't think this can be done without additional software, but if it can, pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated.
    Brandon

You need Quicktime 7.6 Pro. Control+J to bring up the property window. In the property window is an extract button. Click on either the video or audio and click to the extract button.
You'll find Quicktime 7 in your Utilities folder. If Quicktime 7 isn't install in the Utilities folder you need to install it from you OS installation disk, in the optional installations folder.
If you don't have Quicktime Pro you need to buy it from the Apple store.

  • DVI to ADC Adapter for GeForce 6800 video card?

Do I need DVI to ADC Adapter for Nvidia GeForce 6800 which I just installed on my G5 to be able to run ADC 23" Cinema off the GeForce 6800 card?
I want to run a new 30" Cinema and old ADC 23" Cinema from GeForce 6800. I ran the old 23" from the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
    Thanks,
    Milan

    Hi Milan,
If the Geforce 6800 does not have an ADC output, then yes, you do.
You need to check to see whether or not that the card has DVI-I output, as some of the DVI to ADC adaptors use a DVI-I plug which will not fit into a DVI-D output due to the extra pins in the plug.
    Cheers!

  • Does dvi to vga adapter change resolution

I had this hooked up to my tv and watched video from had drive. I shut down computer one evening, the next day turned i on, and picture is blurred, and can't see anything---maybe a resolution problem but can't see to change it. bought a new adapter, same thing. I hooked up to another tv, without vga adapter and seems to be fine, hookeed back up to tv with vga adapter, still no picture.

    Hello,
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), see if you can set a good rez there.

  • Mini-DVI to video adapter connects with S-video cord

I see the picture, but no sound coming out of the tv. Sound only comes out of the MacBook. Any ideas?

Hi mrs.Kurle: The S-Video cord doesn't caryy an audio signal. To get audio to your TV you will need a cord from the Audio-Out/Headphone jack to the appropiate Audio input on your TV.

  • Video performe horribley both with QT and youtube, beach ball ****.

I have no idea why but since the last update all my QT movies play back about only 4 secs of video, then i hear sound but the picture gets stuck, then on YouTube i get nothing but the beach-ball, i have to force quit firefox etc etc
    Anyone else experiencing this?
I have over 120GB free on my drive, a external 750GB media drive for iPhoto docs and a 320GB Sata to USB 2.5" drive, all worked perfect until the last update.

    i have some problems too.
Expecially for some youtube videos or someother flash/director streaming files.
Actually Director/Shockware plugin works horrible on new Mac intel models.
I try to install also version 10 of this plug in (it's a beta) but nothing new.
For some videos it's possible to watch them but it's not possible to forward the timeline or put it in full screen mode. this occurs very rarely on YouTube but very often on other streaming video sites.
The only remedy if you need to watch them is restarting Safari or Firefox under Rosetta, doing so flash/director plugins are loaded in PPC instead of Intel.
It's not funny but it works.
    only a note:
as i remember , CNN uses Windows Media Video codecs in their streams so it's better you install
WindowsMedia component (it's free) from Microsoft Mac site (www.mactopia.com or microsoft.com/mac)

  • Will DVI to HDMI adapter on MBP carry both sound and video ?

I have an older Duo Core 3.1 MBP 15". Will the DVI to HDMI adapter carry both the video and audio channels for TV viewing ?
    Thanks,
    RL

DVI does not carry audio but there are adapters that add digital audio DVI to connect to HDMI.
    <http://www.hdtvsupply.com/dvi-audio-to-hdmi.html>
You will also need to convert the optical to coax digital
    <http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10423&cs_id=1042302&pid=2948&seq=1&format=2>
    and optical Mini-Plug to Toslink

It would be cheaper to use a cable from the computer's audio output to audio input on the TV.

  • Mini-DVI to Video Adapter inconsistent

I have a PB 12" 1.33 with a mini-DVI port on it. I've developed a Keynote presentation that I'd like to put up on a television. I've purchased Apple's mini-DVI Video adapter (Part Number: M9319G/A) and am running an S-Video cable from the adapter to the TV. Tests at home work perfectly, and are very simple and straight forward.
Unfortunately, when I went to the location I am giving the presentation and repeated the process of hooking up to their TV, I get a B/W distorted image on the television. The same distorted image comes up on a plasma screen they have on site as well.
I've tried all the options in the Dispalys Control Panel for resolutions. They change it slightly, but still remain distorted.
I've read a post (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2035086&#2035086) that recommends changing from NTSC to PAL (or vice versa) using the Displays panel, but mine does not have that option (am I in the wrong place?). The only options I have on the Displays Control Panel are Resolutions and Colors.
I thought it may have been a problem with the TV, but a co-worker hooked up his Windows-based laptop via S-Video, and it worked fine (resulting in a "oh its because its a Mac" discussion!). Also, the problem was not isolated to just one TV.
    Deperately need help!

Either way. You set if you want mirroring or two monitors in Display in System Preferences.

  • How to get 16:9 resolutions when using DVI to Video Adapter?

I just plugged my new Intel Mac Mini into a 16:9 widescreen TV with the Apple DVI to Video Adaptor (PAL Video version).
    It only offers me:
    640x480
    720x480
    720x576
    800x600
    1024x768
    (all interlaced)
I do get a choice of 50hz (PAL) or 60hz (NTSC).
However, I don't get the widescreen options I've seen in some Apple screenshots.
I'm plugging it into a PAL TV via an s-video cable.
I intend later to plug it into a larger 42" plasma with same cable, but wanted to test it on this TV first.
    More info:
I noticed, when I bought the "DVI to Video Adapter" that there were NTSC and PAL version. Both seem to do PAL though.
Any help on this most appreciated.

Concerning your question, "if only i knew the the correct entries for a custom displayconfig x timing," I think I can answer that one for you.
It sounds like you have other Macs at your disposal that are correctly driving the TV you are trying to drive with the Intel mini. In that case, install DisplayConfigX on one of those computers and while it is running the TV at the desired resolution, click on the "Card" tab in DCX and then click on the "+" symbol at the bottom right corner. This will open a window in DCX titled "Resolution details" and you will see all the detailed information of the timing you need to enter into DCX on the Intel mini.
