Does Having a .Mac Address Affect Google Rankings?

I have a fairly new iWeb-generated website that was started around May 1. I wrote an article on my site about a new hostess for a poker TV show (I'm a poker reporter), and my page has sustained a #3 ranking on Google for about a month. (The article has received over 8,000 hits over five weeks.)
A friend tells me that it's unheard of for a new site like mine to rank so highly on Google, and insists that it's only because my core domain is ".Mac". Either Apple is specifically "pushing" or "accelerating" my page to Google, or Google is weighing me more highly because I benefit from .Mac's high Alexa ranking.
So my question is this: Does Google rank my pages differently because the domain is Mac.com and not (for example) PokerReporterBJ.com?
Also, does Apple do anything to "push" or "accelerate" its member pages to search engines like Google? I believe that having a .Mac address might put me on Google's "radar" faster (meaning I'll show up SOMEWHERE in the rankings), but I don't believe it affects the actual page rank.
Does anyone know anything about this?
Here's the link to my main page:

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I think I agree with all of you.
However, I did find one source saying your domain can affect Google rankings. Here's the link:
http://www.searchenginepromotionhelp.com/m/articles/site-content-design/google-d omain-names.php
However, the point of this article is that Google tracks domains and domain-hosting services for a history of spamming, giving less weight to historical spammers.
So Google may punish your ranking if you're with a disreputable hosting service, but they won't reward you just because you're with dotMac or another major domain. It just puts you on an even playing field with the rest of the Internet. (Which is as it should be.)
Like I said, thanks for the responses!

  • RE1000 - Does not filter MAC ADDRESS

I bought this to extend the range of my new Linksys 3200, thinking that they would be compatible. Silly me! After spending 3 plus hours screwing around with this, I got online and happened to stumble on a post from another user, that stated that this device DOES NOT FILTER MAC ADDRESSES! So, if you want to use mac filtering you can't use this! Ridiculous! Some basic instructions to inform users of this fact would be helpful. But it comes with no manual or instructions whatsoever. Save your money.

I have a E2500 router, I was adding the Extender because of the size of the office.  I set my router up to "Permit only" Mac IDs', right there I should have questioned why nothing worked.  The Package & the base of the unit both had a matching MAC ID - to bad that the unit had a different one.  I don't remember how much time I spent but finally disable the MAC ID Filter on the router and got the real one.  From that point on, everything worked, I even was able to setup with the router internal security switch.  Just think how a little thing like an ID would make an IT Guy just a little more mis-trustful, not count the grey hair.

  • Safari does not show url address line. google is taking up all the space...

safari does not show url address line anynore. google is taking up most of the space on the safari page

Hover the cursor over that line until it becomes a big plus sign with arrows on the left and right. Click and drag the cursor so that the rest of the address line is the way you want it.

  • Sh arp does not show mac address of IP --- ASA

    Hi Everyone,
I can ping the IP from the ASA but when i do sh arp it does not show me mac address od that IP.
Need to know the reason behind this.
    Regards
    MAhesh

So your ASA should have a route on the inside interface to internal networks. The address of that next hop in the routing table is the one you should have in your arp table allowing you to reach non-directly-connected (subnet-wise) hosts within the scope of that route statement.
Think through the logic - ASA pings a host. It needs to determine proper egress interface. It checks and asks "Is it reachable via a directly connected interface (most preferred route)?" Answer no. "Do I have a route statement telling me how to get to it?" Answer yes (otherwise use default). OK - so ASA sends packet out egress interface defined in that route statement to the next hop as defined in route statement and waits for reply.

  • HWIC-4ESW having same MAC address with fa0/0 from CISCO2811 router.

Hi Expert, I Have a situation where a 2811 is configured with 2 VLANs from HWIC-4ESW module, different ports configured, however the VLAN interfaces have the same mac-address with fa0/0 which causes ARP poisoning problem. It that anyway to solve this problem?

    Hi Lee,
My understanding is, this is expected behavior and is due to the hardware limitation of the HWIC-4ESW Module. And I think the HWIC-4ESW Module (at least from my lab testing) always takes the MAC Address of the first on board LAN Interface.
Also, I am able to change the MAC Address of the first on board LAN Interface (Ex.Gig0/0) but I cannot change the MAC Address of the VLAN SVI.
    I hope it helps.

    Arul

  • So why does Lenovo put MAC addresses on Box?

What I'd like to know is why Lenovo puts your devices' MAC address on the outside of the box. When I received my Thinkpad W541 over a month ago, I should have made this post then. For security purposes I don't think a MAC address should ever be published on the outside of a box. Just my $0.02
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When you say "box", I assume you're talking about the cardboard box that the computer ships in.  The reason the MAC address (and corresponding bar code) is on the outside of this box is for enterprise management purposes.  IT admins scan this label to read the MAC address which is used for deployment purposes, such as Microsoft MDT/SCCM.  The MAC address may also be used to allow that specific PC onto their corporate network, so the IT admin needs an easy way to get it.  When you are talking about an IT admin that deploys thousands of PCs at a time, you can't expect them to open every box and then power on every PC to get to the MAC address which they need before they can do anything else.
From a security perspective, every time you connect to a network, your MAC address is broadcast out to your subnet.  In addition to this, MAC addresses are sequential and predictable.  For example, the W541 that came out of Lenovo factory before yours, and after yours, you can guess their MAC addresses.  So while MAC addresses are unique, there is nothing random or secure about them.

  • Mac address book & (Address book software-not MAc)

I am new to MAC and downloaded a software program called Address office. The program is basically a name and address file; it is in addition to the address book in mac.
The address book in mac came with 1 address and that is apple.com. The problem I have been having is that the "apple.com" duplicates itself in the MAC address book by itself. It multiplies by itself or if you have address book open and click on the desktop, the address will duplicate. There are sometimes 50 entries of apple.com. The mac genius bar thinks it is because of the other address book that I downloaded. They replaced my MAC because they could not fix the problem and the new one appeared to work fine until. I copied the "address office" software to a cd, I inserted the CD into the Mac and was going to print all of the address so I would have them; I did not install the software on the hard drive. Right after doing this, the MAC address book started to have the same problem...apple.com suddenly appeared and started to duplicate itself so I am back to sqare one. Any help or direction as to what should be done is much appreciated
    Thanks

Good luck with them. It really sounds like a "Doctor, it hurts when I do this…" problem for you. That program seems awfully old given that it was originally written to support 10.0 to 10.2 and release in 2003. Lots of stuff with address book changed dramatically since then.

  • Do I need to add Base Station MAC address to list?

Hi, If I choose to use MAC address filtering on my Airport Extreme Time Capsule, do I need to add the wireless MAC address of the Base Station to the list of allowed MAC addresses???  I'd feel real bad if I set up a list, didn't include the base station's MAC address and then could never get in to the network again because I, in effect, locked myself out???  I doubt that address needs to be included but I would like some feedback on that.
Second, does the one MAC address filter list apply to the Guest Network as well if I should choose to turn it on???  If that was the case, I would just turn off MAC address filtering why guests were present.
    thanks..  bob

If I choose to use MAC address filtering on my Airport Extreme Time Capsule, do I need to add the wireless MAC address of the Base Station to the list of allowed MAC addresses???
No. Timed Access would be for wireless devices....computers, mobile devices, printer, etc., that are connecting to the Time Capsule. The Time Capsule does not connect to itself in this regard.
I'd feel real bad if I set up a list, didn't include the base station's MAC address and then could never get in to the network again because I, in effect, locked myself out???
Sometimes, users lock themselves out by mistake by entering incorrect times for devices to connect, and they often forget that they can connect to the base station using an Ethernet connection and get back in that way.....since Timed Access only applies to devices that connect using wireless.
does the one MAC address filter list apply to the Guest Network as well if I should choose to turn it on???
    Yes

  • CNA 5.5 and show mac address-table

When trying to Monitor/Search for MAC address in C2960 network I got an error reply that a CLI command is not supported. Analyzing network traffic shows that CNA 5.5 is issueing 'show mac-address-table' command but the latest Cisco IOS Software, C2960 Software (C2960-LANBASEK9-M), Version 12.2(55)SE does not support 'show mac-address-table' anymore but does support 'show mac address-table' command. How can I change the command for showing mac address tables in CNA 5.5?
    M.

    hi john,
the show mac-address-table command should be valid.
check if you've got MAC learning enabled on the ASA interface using show mac-learn command.
edit: could you post show firewall? the above command works on transparent firewall only.

  • Need to see MAC addresses connected directly to AirpOrt Extreme

I need to see my MagicJack MAC address so I can reserve it an I.P. address or something.
Anyone know how to see what mac addresses are connected? I know how to see which wireless addresses are connected, but wired ones.
    Thanks.
    Dwaine

AirPort Utility in Lion does not display MAC address information for connected wired clients. The MAC address for the MagicJack should be on a label on the back or bottom of the device.
If you are still using Lion, you have the option to download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
Open AirPort Utility, select the AirPort Extreme and click Manual Setup
Click directly on Wireless Clients near the bottom of the summary page to see Wireless Clients. Click DHCP Clients to see wired devices.

  • MAC address learning

On various switches I have devices connected to, some of the ports never seem to learn the mac-address of the connected device. Anyone have an explanation or fix for why this randomly happens?

    Hi Friend,
The switch will not learn a mac address till the time device connected to it send some request out from its source mac address.
Like a workstation if you connect to it and your pc is in hut state the switch will not learn a mac address.
Incase you power your pc up it will sned a broadcats ofr arp entry and that time switch will learn a mac address because now pc has send some request with its mac address.
So just check which all devices connected to the switch for which it does not learn mac address are those devices active and up in the network.
HTH, if yes please rate the post.

  • MAC Addresses in routed datagrams

    Hi,
I am due to teach some pupils the basics of MAC Addresses/IP Addresses and routing soon and I have a (hopefully) quick question which I am hoping someone here can help me with.
When a frame is placed out onto a public network is has a destination MAC Address. Is this address the MAC address of the next hop or the address of the final destination. If it is the next hop then am I right in assuming that the once the frame reaches the next router, the frame is unpacked to obtain the IP address from the layer 3 headers, and a new layer 2 frame is assembled with the MAC address of the next router to which the frame is to be sent.

    Hello robertfl00k
When a frame is placed out onto a public network it will be having destination Mac Address of the next hop. When that frame will be received by the router, then it will remove the layer 2 information and check its routing table for the destination ip address. If destination will be available there in the routing table then it will attach new layer 2 information and forward that data to next hop.
