Does Instant Hotspot turn off automatically?

IOW, when the units using the hotspot are finished with doing whatever, does the Instant Hotspot turn off by itself so that cell data isn't continuing to be used?

OK, being the impatient type of person I am, I just tested some scenarios.
Went to iPad, changed wifi to Instant Hotspot and it turned on the hotspot on the phone. Disconnected from the personal hotspot on the iPad and waited less than 5 minutes and the phone went back to my home wifi as I hoped it would.
Then cranked up the iPad again, picked the Personal Hotspot, did a quick web crawl then put the iPad to sleep. A couple minutes later the iPhone was back to the in house wifi. Woke up the iPad and the wifi had gone back to the in house wifi just as I'd hoped.

Well, in fact I have the same problem. And by the way, I dislike marketing tricks as proposing that you buy the pro-version of quicktime if you ever want to download mp3-files again (as a right click on the quicktime browser-player does).
I already switched off every file link and stream-related ghismo that points towards quicktime as player, in the quickime control in control panel as wel on any other place I could find.
But the only thing I acchieved is, that IE now starts downloading as soon as I go to a link to an MP3 file and after some time it says "ready".
An firefox stubbornly keeps opening the quicktime player.
I tend to disagree with IE as I can't find any file on my system, with regardless what searching technique.
Is there a way to get things back to normal without uninstalling Quicktime and reinstalling my browsers (wich is useless as Itunes will prompt me to reinstall quicktime)???

Turn off automatic update of Firefox on Gnome 3, Fedora 15

On Fedora 15, using Gnome 3, I am unable to turn off automatic updates for Firefox, I am only able to turn off auto updates for Add-ons and Search Engines.

Possibly you have obtained a modified version of Firefox. Preferences, chrome, js or whatever may have been modified.
If work requires you to develop on certain versions, and you are doing some of that on this computer, why not install multiple copies of Firefox, including the required versions. I trust the required versions will be the currently supported versions; at the moment that is 3.6, 6, 7, 8 or 9
You should ensure you use multiple profiles so each has a unique profile.
For the current problematic firefox 6 do a clean install, deleting the original program files, but not the profile files. (or possibly an additional install in a custom location with a new profile - allowing you to retain the current firefox 6, and a standard firefox 6) Profiles may be cloned/copied if required, bookmark libraries may be accessed from other versions/profiles if necessary, and multiple versions can be run concurrently. ( I talk from a Windows perspective, but it is unlikely Linux is going to differ)

Turning off automatic update checks

How do you turn off automatic update checks?
Not only do these pop up on their own even though I have all the 'update' options in iTunes set to manual, but when they do pop up, they do so in a top priority fashion, kicking me out of whatever else I might be doing.
Why can't such updates be done solely when I am going into iTunes?

It might not be the updater from iTunes. When you install iTunes, you also get a little program called Apple Software Updater.
You can uninstall that from Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. You will still be able to go into iTunes and check for updates with it gone.

How do I turn off Automatic Heading/Paragraph numbering?

I am working on a document that has several different headings/paragraphs, each numbered 1,2,3 etc. They seem to have been automatically numbered so that if I delete one sub-paragrph, Pages knows this and re-numbers that section accordingly.
I am trying to edit this document and insert new paragraphs/new sections. That part is easy, but when I try to renumber all the existing paragraphs so the edited document is in order, the automatic numbering just continues (ignoring my newly inserted paragraphs) and I can't even highlight some of the sub-paragraphs to change them. I just delete them by pressing backspace put it won't allow me to insert a corrected number in it's place.
I've tried turning off 'Automatically detect lists' in Preferences, but it makes no difference.
Please help! I just need my headings and sub-headings to be numbered in the order they appear on the page.

In the Inspector palette you have on the T tab > Lists. Here you set which kind of list numbering you want. You also have special list styles in the style drawer. Have you used them?
If you are doing a lot of shuffling of text it might be easier to select all text and apply Body style. Do this on a copy of the document so you have on doc if the disaster strike the one you are working on.
Now do the shuffling of text and when you are done use list styles for those headings and paragraphs you want.

How do I turn off automatic sync?

I recently accidently deleted most of my itunes music library. Previously I had itunes set to automatic sync. All my music is on my ipod classic and I want to keep it. I am worried that if I connect my ipod to the PC it will automatically sync and will delete most of the music on my ipod. How do I turn off automatic sync and set it to manual sync? Is there a way of changing the settings without connecting the ipod? Would it be of any help if I had access to another ipod and could I use this to change settings. I would be very grateful for any help.

To prevent auto sync, connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

How to turn off automatic numbering in Pages

I recently had a problem getting rid of automatic numbering within Pages.
I keyed in a numbered heading (eg, "1. H1") and then hit return, when it gave me another numbered heading ("2. H2") on the next line, which I didn't want.
The easiest way to get round this is to hit the return key on the automatically numbered line (eg, "2. H2"), which removes the "2" and puts you to the start of the line. This seems to tell Pages that you don't want automatic numbering, at least for the time being. Perhaps until you key another numbered heading...
To turn off automatic numbering on an individual line you can press the "i" button at the top and select "None". That will remove the number.

The View menu does what it says:
Menu > View > Hide Invisibles

Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain directly connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB, not a cradle):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
Remove the battery
Wait 15 minutes
Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note carefully please that "new" and "know good" are not necessarily the same things. While rare, a "new" battery certainly could be defective. Rather, the simplest (and least costly, btw) method to conduct this test is to find someone with an identical BB who has no issues...trade batteries and see what happens.

If the Nokia Software Recovery Tool does not help, you face a hardware issue. Either the SIM or the phone. If you tried another SIM, preferable from another network operator, then it is very likely the phone. In that case, you have to send/bring your phone (via your dealer) to a local, but official Nokia Care Point for inspection.

ICloud Turns OFF Automatically

iCloud turns off automatically on my iphone 4S. Has anyone experience this problem before? I am using the iOS 7.1.1. Everything in the iCloud settings such as Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Safari, Notes, Photos, Documents & Data suddenly gets turned off and it's so very bad, when i use the iphone and emergency call to my friend, it's not impossible when no access to internet to sync again.
Also when it's happend my contact setting clear, for example set the cusome ringtone for each contact person. and this very very bad for apple device. please help me to correct this problem in my device.

Also struggled for a long time. iCloud documents between Iphone and Macbook were syncing, but not with iPad. The following seems to have sorted out the problem (did it only on iPad):
Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings
After doing this, all my iCloud documents appeared in:
Settings - iCloud - Storage and Backup - Manage Storage - Pages.
All devices are now syncing

It sounds like your phone is turning off unexpectedly. I recommend these steps from the following article, they will get you to a resolution:

Itouch turns off automatically

i just bought an itouch 3g in January. i was using it, until it turned off automatically. the pixels were still on screen when it turned off. The batteries are green after i turned it back on. and it does charge when i plug it into the computer. what is wrong with it ?
