Does Mail (3.6) work with MS Exchange Server 2003?

I'm struggling to get Mail to work with an exchange server.
Apparently, from the company's FAQs, we can hook up an iPhone, but alas not Mail.
With the iPhone directions, they talk about a "domain" field, which doesn't show up in Mail.
Any tips or clues would be appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure why this works now, but it does. Yay!
My problem evolved such that I, when I sent out through a different outgoing server, a recipient would see the address of the outgoing address, e.g. if I was using the gmail servers it would look like [email protected], and not the [email protected]
So as a work around I tested sending out messages with my [email protected] address in the Reply To field. That works.
Strangely, a Sent mailbox with for my [email protected] has appeared. Even messages that I've sent out with nothing in the Reply To field indicate that they've come from my [email protected] address.
Keys to making it work:
• Set up the exchange address as an IMAP account (not an exchange account)
• Use the above referenced source forge tool
• Partner with the company's IT people for whatever assistance they can offer
• Use a Reply To field with the exchange, if required

  • IPhone 2.0 doesn't work with my exchange server

My tech support guys have been working on my iPhone for an entire day and couldn't get it to work with the server. They are telling me that the phone isn't compatible with the exchange server and it would require an entire overhaul of our server and reconfiguration to get it to work. I thought the new iPhone was supposed to be so easy to use. I am so ready to ditch my blackberry and so very disappointed that I can't get the iPhone to work with our server. Macintosh support was completely useless to help figure out this problem- as they said they don't offer support to third party software- yet this phone is supposed to work with the Microsoft Exchange Server?! Can anyone offer any help?
Below is the explanation my tech support gave me:
I wanted to reach out to you to update you with your iPhone working on the peacock exchange. After spending considerable time with both AT&T and Macintosh, getting the phone to operate with exchange as easy as Macintosh advertises, has ended in a failure. Your phone device itself, is properly updated and has all the correct settings. Where the problem lies for you is on the Microsoft server end. This is where the server will have to have additional software and updates installed which would effect and change the peacock network environment. This can be potentially accomplished, however it will need to be evaluated for the additional costs and potential risks to the server and environment. That’s why BlackBerry is so popular with business networks, because it does not affect the Microsoft Exchange mail services in any shape or form. Blackberry runs on its own server service which acts as the bridge to communicate with the Microsoft service.
AT&T was very helpful and tried everything they could to aid us. Macintosh on the other hand, was not very helpful. After a few unsuccessful attempts, Macintosh just came out and said that they do not support 3rd party software (i.e Microsoft Products). You can give Macintosh a try, and see if you end with better results.

Actually Blackberry has two options, one where they pull from your server and then push it to your phone as described. Alternatively you can install their software on your server to relay. Both require additional services, software and fees. Instead the iPhone uses the ActiveSync included in the Exchange server, which is the same protocol used to communicate with Windows Mobile based devices.

Essentially Apple does not configure Microsoft Exchange for your admins. We do provide a list of what versions of ActiveSync and which ActiveSync features we support. However, ActiveSync is part of the Microsoft Exchange server maintained and configured by your Exchange server admins.
    Hope this helps,

  • How can I get 'Mac mail' to work with PC exchange server

My employers have just upgraded to a new Exchange server and now mail won't work on my mac. The only option I have been given is to use Outlook web access, but it is not ideal for my working needs. The sticking point is that mail wants to connect via IMAP, but the server isn't configured for this. I used to be set up as a POP3 account, but this is not longer an option with our administrators. Is there any way I can continue to use 'Mac Mail'?

Please read this page and see if it helps:

  • How to set Iphone 4s to sync with Microsoft Exchange server 2003?

I am unable to set up my Microsoft Exchange Server with my Iphone 4s.  The exchange server is 2003 with Service Pack 2 installed.
I have gone through the steps, but I get a box entitled “Exchange Account”saying “Unable to verify account information”.

    Hello,
Seems you are not using an Exchange server account, please refer to the following link and try to set the out of Office notices with POP3, IMAP, and Outlook.com accounts:

  • RSS sync on iPad 3 not working with my exchange server.

I have had two successful syncs with my RSS feeds. most of the time I get nothing. I have the folders checked to push the contents to me. Mail works fine.

    1. close iBooks on iPad (also close the file you were working on on iBooks Author)
    2. double click on the home button (or user four finger swipe up) to bring out the multitasking menu
    3. press iBooks icon and don't let go until the icons in the multitasking bar jiggles
    4. delete iBooks icon from multitasking bar (this gets rid of the memory).
Now, restart ibooks on iPad, and reopen the file on iBooks Author.  Try the Preview function again.
This worked for me.  I hope it will work on you as well.

  • Setting up Mail.app to work with OS X Server's Mail Server

Thanks to some help from the Apple support discussions, I got WebMail working on my OS X Server machine in the office. But I can't seem to figure out the settings for Mail.app clients on the same network (and outside the network for that matter).
    The Mail Server settings:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/36873954@N00/192491709/
The server is locally on 192.168.0.2
    Any help would be appreciated.

See comment 8, its a tab in the server response that's causing the failure.

  • HT3748 since upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Mac Mail no longer works well w/exchange email; so, I have had to switch back to outlook. Now, how can I use outlook for mac's calendar and contacts with icloud?

Since uprgading to Mountain Lion, my mac mail no longer works with my exchange email properly. I finally gave up and moved back to outlook for mac, but now my new issue is using outlook calendar and contacts with icloud; possible?

Sorry but I'm really not to sure what I have. I'm not good with knowing my computer model. All I know is that its a MacBook running with Leopard. I got my computer last year so I suppose its fairly new. Is there a place on my computer where I can check to see what it is (sorry to be so dumb with my own mac)
And everything else works fine. I love Safari. It's just my mail that doesn't work. Here's the message that pop up several times.
"The MobileMe IMAP server “mail.mac.com” rejected the password for user “akcastaldo”
Please re-enter your password, or cancel."
The only problem here is, even though I enter my password it doesn't do anything. It makes that message go away for about 3-5 mins. After that it pops right back up. And I can't even go into my preference and change my email password. So I don't know what to do.

  • Can't connect to my work exchange server 2003

I am one of the only people in my office with a Mac and my IT dept. refuses to assist me. Therefore, I am forced to try to resolve issues myself (which is not working out).
I have successfully sent mail through the company's outgoing mail server, but I cannot connect to the incoming mail server to receive my messages.
On a side note: I have entourage 2004 running successfully with no problems other than the program is crippled compared to outlook on windows. I want to run Apple's Mail program but can't get working, and I'm sick of running Outlook through Parallels.
To configure Outlook and Entourage all I need to put in is the exchange server path (and login info) and it configures the rest. So how do I know what the outgoing and incoming paths are for Apple Mail? Are they the same? I right now I have both the incoming and the outgoing set up with the same exchange server paths hwmxmsg05.hotels.ad.**.com.
Any Ideas? Another post mentioned make sure certain things are configured on the server side? What would they be as I need to relay them to someone who knows.
    Thanks!!!

I feel your pain. I also am a lone Mac user in an entire building full of PC robots, and the IT people haven't got a clue.
I've been trying to get Mac mail working with the Exchange server here, but it's just not happening. I've managed to get Entourage working though, which is far from ideal but significantly better than the web-based version of Outlook that I'd been having to use up till now.
For entourage, then yes - the incoming and outgoing servers are the same. You may need to ask your recalcitrant IT people which port numbers to use, but give it a whirl anyway.
    Best of luck,

  • Can't sync IMAP inbox with Exchange Server 2003

Since Lion doesn't work with Exchange Server 2003, I set up an IMAP account in Outlook 2011 via Davmail for myself and a colleague on our laptops. This has worked for my e-mail account (syncs on multiple computers, including one running Exchange directly, and with my iPad's mail client), but not for my colleague.
For some reason, my colleague's inbox receives pushes from the server, but won't send back changes made in Outlook. Messages that have been read remain unread; deleted e-mails go into what is purportedly the server's trash in Outlook 2011, but remain in the inbox on the server. Changes made on the IMAP on the laptop also don't sync to my colleague's iPhone.
    Our configuration is the same.
Any ideas? Could it be on the server side?
    Thanks!

  • I am unable to get Thunderbird to work with my exchange email account

I have tried a heap of different configurations including using ExQuilla with no success. I will provide the insrtuctions I received for accessing my account using outlook.
I hope you can help, as I find Thunderbird a great platform, and really don't want to go back to Outlook.
*Note – the instruction at step 5 is fairly important. It is easy to miss it and hit “check name”. Don’t – It’ll piss you off no end.
Let me know how you go.
    Using Outlook via the Internet
If you are using Microsoft® Office Outlook® 2003, you can connect to the computer running Windows® Small Business Server through the Internet using the feature called RPC over HTTP. This means you can remotely access your server e-mail account from the Internet when you are working outside your organization's firewall. You do not need security-related hardware or software (such as smart cards or security tokens), and you do not have to establish a virtual private network (VPN) connection to the server.
Comparing RPC over HTTP and Outlook Web Access
When using RPC over HTTP to access your mailbox, you get the full functionality of Outlook 2003. For example, you can work offline, use Microsoft Office Word 2003 as your e-mail editor, and easily organize your mailbox.
To use Outlook via the Internet
Ensure that the following requirements have been met on the client computer:
Verify that the computer is running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 or later
    • Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
The version of the operating system and service pack is displayed under System. If you do not see a service pack version, there is no service pack installed.
Verify that Windows update Q331320 is installed on the computer (not required if you are running Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later)
    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then open Add or Remove Programs.
    2. Under Currently installed programs, search for the item Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q331320.
    3. If the item is not present, go to the Microsoft Web site (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=18651) and follow the instructions to download and install it.
Verify that the computer is running Outlook 2003 or later
    1. Open Outlook.
    2. Click the Help menu, and then click About Microsoft Office Outlook. The version number appears at the top of the box.
Verify that the computer trusts the certificate used by the server
    1. Open Internet Explorer, and then in the address bar type:
    https://vpn.alaea.asn.au/remote
    • If the certificate is trusted, a certificate warning does not appear. In this case, continue with step 1 under Ensure that you have an Outlook profile configured for the server.
    • If the certificate is not trusted, a warning appears. Click View Certificate, click Install Certificate, and then follow the instructions.
Ensure that you have an Outlook profile configured for the server
    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    • If you are viewing Control Panel in the default Category view, switch to Classic view, and then double-click Mail.
    • If you are viewing Control Panel in Classic view, double-click Mail.
    2. In the Mail Setup dialog box, click Show Profiles. If your profile appears in the list, select your profile, click Properties, click E-mail Accounts, select View or change existing e-mail accounts, and then click Next. If your profile does not appear, open Outlook and follow the instructions to create a profile before proceeding.
    • If Microsoft Exchange Server does not appear in the list, the existing profile is not associated with a Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail account. Click Cancel, and then click Close. Continue with step 3 to add a profile.
    • If there is an existing Microsoft Exchange Server profile, continue with step 3 under Configure the computer for RPC over HTTP.
    3. Click Add. The New Profile dialog box appears.
    4. In the Profile Name box, type a name for the new profile, and then click OK. The E-mail Accounts dialog box appears.
    5. Under E-mail, select Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next. The Server Type dialog box appears.
    6. Click Microsoft Exchange Server, and then click Next.
    7. Continue with step 4 under Configure the computer for RPC over HTTP.
Configure the computer for RPC over HTTP
    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    • If you are viewing Control Panel in the default Category view, switch to Classic view, and then double-click Mail.
    • If you are viewing Control Panel in Classic view, double-click Mail.
    2. In the Mail Setup dialog box, click E-mail accounts, click View or change existing e-mail accounts, and then click Next.
    3. In the E-mail accounts dialog box, click Microsoft Exchange Server, and then click Change.
    4. In the Microsoft Exchange Server box, type the local name of the Exchange server:
    alaea-sbs1.alaea.alaea.asn.au
    5. In the User Name box, type the user name that you use to log on to the Remote Web Workplace. Do not click Check Name.
    6. In the Exchange Server settings page, click More Settings.
    7. On the Connection tab, under Exchange over the Internet, select Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP, and then click Exchange Proxy Settings. The Exchange Proxy Settings dialog box appears.
    8. Under Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange, type the following URL:
    vpn.alaea.asn.au
    9. Select Connect using SSL only, and then select Mutually authenticate the session when connecting with SSL.
    10. In the Principal name for proxy server box, type the following text:
    msstd:vpn.alaea.asn.au
    11. Select On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP.
    12. Under Proxy authentication settings, select Basic Authentication.
    13. Click OK, and then click OK again. Click Next, and then click Finish. Click Close.
    14. In the Mail dialog box, if Always use this profile is selected, choose the newly configured profile.
    15. Open Outlook and type your Windows Small Business Server user name (in the format ALAEA\user name) and password. You can now work with your Outlook mailbox.

Sheesh. That looks hard. I think it will fall over at this point:
"Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP" 'cos Thunderbird uses only the regular email protocols: POP, IMAP and SMTP.
Here (at work) we have in the past have had IMAP and SMTP enabled on our Exchange server so Thunderbird could then connect just like to any other regular internet-based service.
With the change here to outlook365/outlook 2010 I've had to switch to using DavMail which lets Thunderbird talk to the mail server using OWA.
I haven't (seriously) tried Exquilla. Whilst I have great respect for its author and some of his other add-ons, I saw no reason to use an add-on that required payment when DavMail works for free.

Mac Book Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi micmac74.
Mail crashed for no apparent reason.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with the computer:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update for PowerPC
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update for Intel
After installing the Combo Update, the computer may restart twice and the first restart may take several minutes. This is normal.
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • Mail on iMac not accessing MS Exchange server but both iPhone and iPad access the same account with no problems.

I have been using an iPhone and iPad to access my work emails via our MS Exchange server for a number of years now with no problems at all.  I recently replaced my home PC with an iMac (first Mac I have owned) but cannot get it to communicate with the exchange server.  I've checked and re-checked the information on the iMac and my iPad - I even deleted the mail account on the iPad and input the details concurrently with setting up on the iMac - but the Mac will not access the exchange server.
I receive the message "The Exchange server "---------------" rejected the password for user "------"  Enter you password again or cancel."  I am using the correct password.  iPad and iPhone are logging on using that password fine.  iMac just ends up repeating this message.
Our IT support at work assure me that there is no reason from their end for it not to work, and reasonably point to it working using the iPhone etc.
I'd be extremely grateful if anyone can provide a solution to this basic, but extremely frustrating, little problem.

iPhone and iPad use a different way of accessing the server.
I don't know the exact details, but we are using Zarafa instead of Exchange and have the same problem:
iPhone and the likes can connect to Zarafas z-push interface, which is some identical interface to the native Exchange interface, while the desktop e-mail application tries to interface with the web front end (via http) of the server.
These are completely different setups and it depends on the actual installation of the server to get this going.
So, you will most likely need different access parameters for the desktop - and the web mail feature has to be enabled on the Exchange server.
In my opinion using the web mail interface is just silly. On the other hand, the native protocol has less features comparedto the web front end, so you are somehow stuck with sins of the past.
    Good luck!

  • Why mail don't work with hotmail?

I was going to buy a macbook air 13" but i stopped because "mail" don't work with hotmail. The apple store Campania is not able to solve the problem.
    Help me

Hotmail is now MS Outlook.com. To my knowledge all mail programs work with it in one way or another. Right Apple Mac Mail.app doesn't support the new MS exchange system, I forget what they call it for real, but from what I have read Outlook.com now supports IMAP which Apple Mac Mail.app supports.
But then IMHO Mail.app is one of the worst mail clients. So alll you have to do is install another Email program like Outlook, in MS Office for Mac 2011, Thunderbird or some other mail program. Just because the Apple Mail.app progam may not work they way you want it to with any given mail provider doesn't mean you can't get email from that provider.

  • Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own? If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps? How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two?

Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own? If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps? How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two? also I am going to be going off to college soon should I make an itunes id for my self and how will I get all the music from the old id?

Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own?
Yes, it is possible. 1 apple ID can be associated with up to 10 devices.
If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps?
    Yes, all purchases are non-transferable.
How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two?
Every device associated with one apple ID through Find my iPhone is tied to that Apple ID; Find my iPhone will work in the same way with up to ten devices associated with one apple ID. You cannot enable Find my iPhone for one device across two apple IDs
I am going to be going off to college soon should I make an itunes id for my self and how will I get all the music from the old id?
If you have authorized a computer with the old apple ID, you can transfer old media purchased through the old to other devices via iTunes. This doesn't mean the media purchases through the old apple ID it transferred to the new account. If you plan to make future purchases and don't wish to share them with others, make your own apple ID.
