Does SMS relay iOS 8.1 cause extra iPhone battery usage?

I was messing with both SMS relay the other day and noticed that my battery drained almost twice as fast..
I was also messing with handoff and basically just testing the new integration features between Yosemite and iOS8.1
But my question is about SMS relay.. Does anyone know if this will us up more iPhone battery than if I wasn't using SMS relay and just SMSing from the iPhone itself?
Does SMS relay work via bluetooth? Could this be a cause for extra battery usage? It could be possible that I was jus using my phone a bit extra that day but I just want to make sure as I have SMS relay turned off for now, don't want battery life dropping..

I had the same problem. I realized that it had everything to do with my calendar app. My iCalendar was having a difficult time fetching information from my Outlook and Yahoo Calendar. Causing my battery percentage to decline at a very rapid rate. (50% in a 4 hour time frame). I resolved the  problem by going into my Settings >" Messaging , Contact , Calendar" Setting > Clicking on one of my selected Accounts ( Outlook or Yahoo) and turning off the Calendar Sync. The problem seemed to go away after doing this. Now I'm only using 4% battery life in a 4 hour time frame in StandBy Mode. Well I Can only hope that this will help resolve the battery drainage issue. Good Luck ....

  • Why is os 6 upgrade causing my iphone battery to drain?

Why has the os 6 upgrade caused my iphone 4 battery to drain unusually fast?

when I use the computer usb port to charge the battery, I found something strange:
battery indicator is showing 100% from my iphone within a hour
battery indicator is still showing "charging" from iTunes after two hours.
After two and half hours, the battery indicator is showing "charged" from the itunes.
The battery indicator might make you think your iphone's battery is fully charged from the iphone but it doesn't.
I had same problem from my 4s after upgarded to iOS 6 but Charged the battery overnight or more than two or three hours and it works fine now.

  • Does it look like iOS 7 upgrade caused original iPhone cords to lose connectivity with car USB port?  Mine broke.

Really frustrating experience given how much we rely on our phones.

If I plug it into a wall outlet, the phone complaints about "Incompatible accessory", but begins charging.  The problem is clearly at the software level, as the charge rate is noticeably slower.

  • Upgrade to IOS 5 is causing my Iphone 3gs to go over my AT&T data plan

Ever since I upgraded my Iphone 3gs to IOS 5, I have been going over my 200mb data plan with AT&T. I never had a problem with going over my data plan before this update. I looked up my invoice and noticed that when I downloaded the IOS software, I was being charged for it while I was on Wi fi at home. I called AT&T and they removed the $15 data overage charge but I still am going over my data plan and I don't even use my phone. I read on the apple bulletin boards that there might be a virus in the Icloud software, so I deleted the Icloud. I have turned off all push notifications and now I have turned off the cellular data, which makes no sense to do but it has helped. I downloaded the Dataman app to monitor my data constantly. I contacted AT&T and they told me to contact Apple about this problem. Are there any other suggestions? I already updated to the IOS 5.01 and that still did not help. I don't want to upgrade my ATT data plan and pay more money since I already shelled out an extra $15 this month for the overrage.

    Disable firewall on your computer.
If you have iOS 5.0 or later, update directly from the phone by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

  • Does iPhotos in iOS 8 offer slideshow on iPhone?

I can't seem to get a clear answer from the internet or Apple's literature.  I can't make Photos App on my iPhone 6 with iOS8 show me a slideshow.
Some articles speak of a slideshow option within Photos App on iPhone in iOS8.  Is it possible?
I see some slideshow options in iPhone's  Photos & Camera settings, so there's some kind of provision for it.
But Photos App doesn't offer Slideshow as an option, at least where I'm looking for it.
Is this an iPad only feature?  (Don't have iPad)
What am I missing here? Is slideshow available in some other iPhone app?

iPhoto for iOS is no longer supported with the introduction of iOS 8.  These two Apple documents describe what to do at this point:
Migrating from iPhoto for iOS to Photos on iOS 8 - Apple Support
Get help finding your Photos in iOS 8 or later - Apple Support
Check the App Store for slideshow apps.

  • When does the new iOS 6 come out for Iphone. I have a 4s

    Hey folks.
I just upgraded to Mountain lion. I love it so far. My son even says the computer is so fast.
But, on to my question. I have an Iphone 4s running Ios 5.1, and I was wondering when the new 6 will be coming out. I've heard it's much better.
    Thank you.

iOS 6 is set to release this fall. Apple has not been more specific that that.

  • Yosemite/SMS Relay - with a Windows phone?

    Hi,
I currently have Yosemite on my iMac which is SMS relaying from an iPhone 6 Plus on my personal number.
My work phone is a Nokia Lumia (Windows). Is there a way I can either:
    - set up multiple Apple ID's on the same user login so that I can use iMessages for both sending from my personal number and work number,
    - just make do with switching from one user account to another, ie to different iMessages loads in different user accounts, but somehow getting my 07736 number working so that I can use it with relay (but I don't have the 07736 on an iOS device).
Annoyingly, my 07736 number has an old/bigger SIM card, so I can't temporarily put it in my iPhone 6 Plus so I can register it for SMS relay.
    Hope this makes sense?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
At this time iMessages and the forwarding of SMS only works between iOS iPhones on at least iOS 8.1.1 and Macs running Yosemite.
This is set up when both the iPhone and the Mac are connected to the same Network (AND the iPhone has a carrier signal)
The SMS messages then come to the iPhone which forwards them to the Mac.
The Mac will play "catch-up" each time the iPhone comes back into range and is On.
It does not see the SMS messages at other times.
Ergo: it cannot be set up and then the SIM placed in a non iPhone as this will not be able to forward any new Messages.

  • SMS relay not working with non-iMessage users?

One of the features I'm most looking forward to in Yosemite is the ability to text people without iPhones. I attempted to do this tonight, but the message failed to send and the person's name was in red. I got the standard "message failed" note, like I get on my iPhone when a message doesn't go through, but I thought it should have gone through just fine.
More info: the contact is in red, not blue or green, and when I type the phone number I get the "this contact is not registered with iMessage" error message. Of course it's not - the contact is not an Apple user!
My iPhone is an iPhone 6 running iOS 8.0.2 and my Mac is running Yosemite 10.10.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!
    Michael M

I am fortunate to report that it is, in fact, working for me, as evidenced by the fact that I sent and received an SMS to and from an Android user. There was a bit of a hiccup when I enabled SMS relay on my iPhone, as the code which was required popped up and then canceled itself. Once I canceled the entire process, and re-linked the two (Macbook Air and iPhone 6) the pairing and relay went off without a hitch.
Try this: start from the phone, then the iMac. Only input the code in Messages on your iMac after the link is established. I have a feeling it might not truly be synced yet.

  • Missing Chance to SMS Relay to iPad

    Hi,
I was setting up my ipad for the new SMS relay to have it send\receive SMS messages from my iphone but I missed the opportunity to enter in the code on my iphone. I'm unable to replicate this message, I've tried to disable and enable imessage on both devices but still the message has no come back. How do i force my devices to sync to each others so I can take adtanvatage of this feature of ios 8.1?
    Please and thanks in advance!

I was able to figure this out, a solution was to go to my iphone and go to Settings --> Messages --> Text Message forwarding. from there I was able to see my ipad and I enabled it.
I tested it out and it appears to work just fine!!

  • SMS Relay stopped working

Ever since upgrading to iOS 8.1, I've been using SMS relay, no problem with my iMac. Today not so much. When I try to message someone without an iCloud account, I get an error that says they are not registered with iMessage.
Both devices are on the same wireless connection. Text Message Forwarding is turned on on the iPhone and it is paired with my computer. I have rebooted both devices and logged out and back into iCloud on both devices.
    Very frustrating!

In Yosemite, deleting the cache from Macintosh HD/Library/Cache and rebooting fixed the problem.

  • SMS Relay not an option

I have updated my iPhone 5 to 8.1. When I go into Messages the Text Message Forwarding option is not even there. iMessage is on with my iCloud email address selected. . Any suggestions on how to have this show up?

I was searching for a while trying to figure this out myself. I did see that iOS 8.1 is required for SMS Relay on a site, but I am not sure if that's 100% accurate.

  • Can't set up Handoff/SMS Relay

    Hi,
I'm using an iPhone 5 w/ iOS 8.1 and a Mac mini (Late 2012) running Yosemite. The problem is I can't get either Handoff or SMS Relay to work.
I made sure to enable Handoff in FaceTime settings and System Preferences on my Mac, Wi-Fi is also on on both devices, but neither of these features work.
There's another issue with SMS Relay: when I try to set it up on iPhone it tells me to enter the code shown on my Mac, but the problem is it never actually shows me any code.
I'm not really sure if it's a problem with the iPhone or Mac or both.
    Any ideas, guys?
    Thanks!

  • How does iOS 7 run on the iPhone 4S?

    Hi,
I have an iPhone 4S (64GB) running 5.1.1 and would like to know how iOS 7 actually runs on the 4S. I have read so many conflicting reports about iOS 7 on the 4S that I do not know who to believe anymore. I never updated to iOS 6 because of the much published “WiFi greyed out” issue that haunts the 4S. From what I read, this is ongoing with iOS 7 with no fix in sight as it's hardware issue as a result of shoddy build quality.
My only previous update experience (from one version of iOS to another) is with a 3rd generation iPod Touch which after the update to iOS4 (which broke the video app) and then iOS5 (which at least fixed the video app) is only good for playing music. It so laggy that doing anything else with it is basically impossible.
The iPhone 4S was designed for iOS 5 and not iOS 7. Is the iPhone 4S’s processor up to the task of running iOS 7 without any glitches and lagging? I'd rather stay on 5.1.1 than having my user experience tanked by a phone that it not quite capable of running the new version of iOS problem free. I am not one of those people that MUST have the latest version of iOS not matter what. My phone working reliably (and having WiFi & Bluetooth connectivity) is much more important than a flashy (some would say ugly) new iOS. The only reason I am considering upgrading is for the new call/sms blocking feature. I know Apple says that they are compatible, but they also said that iOS4 & iOS5 will run on a 3rd generation iPod Touch and it just does not....
Any comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Tyler

    Hi Tyler
is the other 4S user frequently cleaning the tasks that run in the background?
    - if not: double push the home button and swipe away the unused 'running"-Apps.
(this is also new: it used to be push and hold - then press the X. Now simply swipe them away)
I also have an iPad 1st Gen with iOS5 and find it very helpful to restart it once in a while. This also helps to increase the performance and reduces crashes.
Ok, I have to admit that my 4S also froze in the past, but maximum once in a month or two.  Usually this happened when I tried to do to many things at the same time.
However what I experienced, that the camera App crashed more often when trying to shoot multiple HDR pictures. I believe it is due to the computing, which has to be done by the phone, since HDR means, shooting 3 Pictures and merging them.
My Battery is, as the phone 2 years old and last about a day in business use. I turn off wifi and BT when I don't need it, further reduce the display brightness. This increased my battery life significantly.
Observation with WhatsApp: sometimes I need to close and reboot it (in the task manager), but I related this issue rather to the App than the iOS.
    Good luck
