Does the airport express need to be connected to router with ethernet cable to work?
We are trying to set up 2 zones for streaming music. The guys at Apple sold me an airport express. However I cannot get it to connect to the internet unless it's wired directly to my wifi router. This does not work for me as the components I need to plug into it are located in another room of the house. Am I doing something wrong or am I trying to get the AX do something it can't?
The Express cannot wireless extend non apple router.. however it can join a wireless network that is non-apple and it can work as a wireless to ethernet bridge. It should be able to connect the audio output to amp or speakers. But you need to do the setup, choosing join a wireless network which is under the options and not displayed as a standard connection type in the utility.
Here is one example of doing it.

My thinking was I could connect airport express to printer by USB and it would work without connecting it using CAT5 to router. Am i wrong??
This should work fine if the Express is connecting to a wireless network provided by another Apple router. Is that the case here?

Yes. Distance can increase interference causing delays in streaming.

Does my Airport Express need to be hardwired to my modem?
My Imac and modem are in my basement. I have an airport express in my garage so i can play music through Airplay. Does the airport express need to be connected to my modem with an ethernet cable, or can it just connect to my wifi network to enable Airplay?
See this article, AirPort Utility 6.x: Set up a bridge or AirPort Express: How to join an existing Wi-Fi network in client mode , about configuring the AEX. Be sure to have your Airport enabled on the computer.
I'm not sure how easy this will be when using a non-Apple router. -
My internet 3rd party access point in in the basement and the speakers I want to stream music to wirelessly are upstairs. Does Airport Express need to be connected to my 3rd party router via ethernet cable or will it stream music wirelessly?
Wirelessly
Just select the option to make your AirPort Express join an existing network in the setup process -

I just purchased Apple TV AND AIRPORT EXPRESS. I am questioning if I need it when I already have a Netgear Powerline AV 200 Adapter Kit XAVB2001. Does the Airport Express do the same thing?
Thank you so much. Any specifics I should know about prior to connecting? The goal is to watch Netflix from my iPad or iPhone 5 on my tv (located in different room from where Comcast internet modem is hard wired to main computer in house). Movies would depend on wireless transmission to a smart tv not connected to modem.

Does airport express need to be connected to Internet to use purely for AirPlay ?
Does airport express need to be connected to Internet to use purely for AirPlay ? Or can I just attach to my stereo and have my Mac connect directly to it in the absence of a wireless network? Tks

you will have to configure the express to create a wireless network but you do not need a connection to the internet. -
Does the airport express require an AirPort Extreme?
Can it run its own wifi network? Can it extend my current system? Does it only work with a higher grade network?
The AirPort Express is a router, so it just needs a modem to get the Internet connection (the WAN port of the AirPort Express is used to connect it to the modem), not another AirPort Extreme or router.
It creates its own network, but you can configure it to extend an existing network. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4145 -
The airport express needs to be plugged into the modem to work?
I already have a wifi device plugged to my modem I was trying to get a wifi extension signal to the other room. I boguht the airport express expecting to get wifi signal without having to plug it to the modem. Is that possible?
As I said....
The AirPort Express can "extend" the wireless signal of another Apple product....an AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule, or another Express......using wireless only.
Another way of saying the same thing is that you must have a minimum of two Apple routers if you want to be able to "extend a wireless network".
The Express will not be able to extend the signal of your Xfinity modem/router using wireless only. It should be able to "join" the wireless network if you want to connect a remote printer or use AirTunes. But, the Express will not provide any additional wireless signal coverage when it "joins" a wireless network.
You will need to plan to connect the AirPort Express back to your Xfinity modem/router using a wired Ethernet connection if you want the Express to provide more wireless signal coverage for your network. -
Does the Airport express work with apple TV?
does the airport express base station work with apple tv and connected devices, like the same way it would over a wi-fi router?
Yes. The AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is a Wi-Fi router and supports the Apple TV for connectivity.

Does airport express have to be connected to wireless modem by cable
I'm trying to set up my wireless network with my wireless modem in my hall and AirPort Extreme in lounge. I thought that the airport would use the wireless signal from the modem and operate as if it was connected by Ethernet cable. Wrong?
You need a minimum of two Apple routers if you want to "extend" a wireless nework using wireless only.
The AirPort cannot "extend" a wireless network from a 3rd party router using wireless only.
If you have a 3rd party router and an AirPort Exteme, the AirPort will need to be connected directly to your main router using a wired Ethernet cable connection. -

Does The Airport Express Work with Any Router?
Hi Forum,
i have an old Linksys router G Wifi speeds, does the Airport Express work with this? The AirPort Express or other Apple routers will not wirelessly extend the signal from your Linksys router, if that is what you are asking here.
If yes, use another Linksys product to insure compatibility between devices. -
Hello, I'm trying to connect my new TiVo XL4 box to my home network via an ethernet cable connection to my Airport Express but the TiVo box is not seeing the network. I have a green light emanating from the Airport Express so it is connected. Please advise.
If you have not already done so, I suggest that you temporarily disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Express that goes to the Tivo box.
Instead, turn off the wireless on a laptop and connect the laptop to the Ethernet port on the Express. See if you can get an Internet connection on the laptop.
If you still cannot get an Internet connection on the laptop, try another Ethernet cable that you know is working correctly.
Post back on your results.

No "decline call" option on most phone calls I receive 5C
When I receive a phone call on my 5C, some calls it gives me the option to decline the call but most calls it does not. It's really annoying!! I don't want to answer the phone sometimes and I can't "decline" the call.
