Don't force selected clip to the top

Hello,
If you do this:
Record a punch in on an existing clip.
Click on the original clip (maybe to select another area to punch in)
The original clip now hides the punch in.
This makes extra work because you have to come up with a work-around such
as cutting the punched section out of the original clip so the punched clip is the only
one occupying that space on the track or
I have to keep sending the original to the back or
I have to use a seperate track for punching.
I would prefer that when you click on a clip it does not force that clip
to the top if it is not already at the top. or
Have a way to merge the punch into the original clip. or
If you bounce to new track and the original track is mono, bounce to a new mono track.
Hope that is enough info. The short version of my request is:
Audition - don't change the stacking of clips on a track. let me decide.

1) Make sure that your project is in the same aspect ratio as your camera. If your camera shoots 16:9. make a 16:9 project.
2) Check the clip inspector for the clip in your project to see if Image Stabilization is turned on. Stabilization works by zooming in, so you may want to turn it off.

I am having a difficult time getting the duration of multiple selected clips. The duration display only will display the time for one clip. Yes, I know I can add them up myself, but why? :-)

For reasons that you would have to ask Apple for they decided not to allow the precise position of the playhead to be shown in iMovie 10 (unlike in FCP 10.1.x).

Suddenly I can not select anything within the top inch or so of any web page. The scroll bar arrow doesn't work at the top. I don't know what to do. I tried updating my browser but the problem still exists.

Everything worked fine on Tues. I shut down my system and then on Wed. morning, the problem appeared. Anything within the top inch or so of a webpage is unavailable to select. It is like there is an inch of the page that is dead. It is that way on every website that I visit with Firefox. It does not happen if I use internet explorer, which I do not like and do not want to have to go back to using. Please help!!! My sister in law has the same problem with firefox.

the mouse also gets 'stuck' in logic precipitating force quits.
i run osX 10.6.8 on a 2007 macbook pro that has had 2 motherboards replaced autumn 2010.
my troubleshooting has been: restart, pRam and safe boot, also checking a 'test' account to find the same issues extant.
pRam restart caused airport to quit and say there is no airport card, and wouldn't respond untill another reboot.
macbook pro 15" 2.4 GHz intel core duo.2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
i have treated this book with care, yet run logic pro studio to the limit of this book's abilities.
what shoud i do?

You don't say which year you have, however...
...there are known problems with the mid-2010 models (see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) as well as early and late 15" 2011 models (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0).
Apple has taken ownership of the problems with the 2010 model but, unfortunately, the free logic board replacement for that model has probably long expired for you - three years after date of purchase.
One the 2011 models Apple has admitted no defect. You'll just have to skim the articles to get an overview of the problems that people are having (usually showing up as screen glitches at first and then going downhill from there).

I havent cropped that way before, but this should work. Double click the part of your clip you want to crop, in the viewer click the motion tap and select crop. You can adjust your parameters there, you should see your result in the canvas window. You will need to add markers if this effect ia for a portion of your clip.
Check out the tutorials on apples website about adding motion.

Something happened, now I can't select clips in the timeline of my current project(in Elements 4)

I've been working on a project for a few days now, everything's been fine. Last night while editing, something happened when I was trying to add a transition between two clips. Now I can't select or edit any clips in the timeline anymore, and can't add new ones. When I click on the clips in the timeline, nothing happens. When I try to drag the select box around several of them, same thing. It acts like there's nothing to select. Same thing with right clicks, soundtrack mp3s, etc. The clips ARE still THERE though, and they all play fine in the preview screen in real time, and when I drag the slider back and forth along them.
All the clips are already rendered except the one transition I was adding when this started. When I hit 'Enter' to render, though, it says "Rendering 1 of 6 Audio Previews" instead of the usual x-number of video previews. I've not seen that before so it probably has something to do with all this.
It's ONLY with this one project. I can still edit and select clips in all my other projects as before.
I've already tried loading other projects and then coming back to this one, as well as closing the program and re-opening it. My current project is still stuck like this but the others are fine.
Please keep all this info in mind. This can't have anything to do with codecs or the clips being in the wrong format for the program. They're all regular AVI files and MP3s, I've been selecting and editing every single clip on this timeline dozens of times over the past few days with no problems. I'm just suddenly not able to select or edit them anymore or add anything new to the timeline, but they still play normally as previews.
I'm really hoping this is a simple thing where I've just tripped some setting and accidentally saved it that way and it can be easily changed back.

OK, then all that I suggested here:
Now, Exit from PrE, and Shutdown the computer completely. Wait a few moments, and then do a cold boot, launching PrE and Opening that Save_As Project. Do you now have the ability to edit the Clips on the Timeline?
If not, go to the location where you Copied the AutoSave folder, and view the files with Detail View ON. Then, look at the Date/Time of the files (probably will be 5 of them). Choose the last one written, Open that, and test. If no change, work backwards to the oldest.
If nothing is working, the only thing that comes to my mind would be an issue with the display driver, BUT that should affect all Projects, and not just this one. However, updating the video driver is always a good step, and should not hurt anything.
Note: many MP3's can cause all sorts of problems. I recommend always converting them to PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit, and replacing MP3's with those WAV files. One can use the great, free audio-editor, Audacity, to convert the MP3's.
If all of the above tests fail, let us know, and if you get any error, or warning messages, copy those down completely, and post those
all failed too?
If so, there is nothing that I can suggest. It seems that your Project is hosed, and is very likely not recoverable.

RichTable moves Selected Row to the Top of my tableview on refresh

When I issue a partialtrigger on a table with a selected Row, the selected row is repositioned to be the first Row that is available. The actual positions of the rows in the tables dont change, the selected row is just scrolled to the top... I need to suppress this behavior. Anyone have any Ideas?

Without an exact jdve version we can't do much.
Check these properties of hte table
activeRowKey, displayRowKey and displayRow. Then read the doc for the properties and set them according your use case.

When I print a selection of text the top half of the first line is cut off, i. e. isn't printed, OS X 10.7.2, Firefox 9.0.1.

When I try to print selected text ("Print Selection Only"), the top half of the first line of the first page is chopped off. Then the last line is chopped in half (top half on the bottom of page 1, bottom half on top of page 2). This occurs on all subsequent pages.

I have a very similar problem on the same versions of Firefox and OS X as the OP.
For me, the cutoff problem occurs on the top and bottom of ALL pages intermittently, depending on the line spacing of the current selection (or so I assume).

My opened apps don't show a bar on the top of the screen when I move my mouse there.

When I open an app, for example Reading List or Camera, and move my mouse to the top of the screen, no title bar appears (with an 'X' on the right to close the program, if clicked). Can I fix this?

I can not select clips in the program monitor?

Normally I can double click on the sequence program monitor and select clips to scale and move about.. but for some reason this is not working? This happened to me once before but I forget how I fixed it.. I think it was a hotkey or something?
Any ideas how to enable this feature again?

Just position the playhead over the clip double clicking in the PW should also work, at least it does for me.
Selecting clip and clicking on the Transform Icon in the Effect Controls comes in handy when a clip is superimposed by another clip.

Selecting Clips in the Timeline

Is there a keyboard shortcut that would allow me to select the clip immediately under the playhead? I hate using my mouse for this, I want to be able to just select something I've inserted into the timeline and trim the end by scrolling over and using the cut tool, but i have to use the mouse to select the clip first. Any work around? i've seen people say variations of that aren't possible, but i'm just checking.

If only it were so. It's probably been on the request list since like v1.2.5.
However, you don't have to select a clip to cut it. If you're using Ctrl-V to cut, or the blade tool even, the clip does not have to be previously selected.

Forcing a JFrame to the top of the WIndows Desktop

How do I force a JFrame to be displyed on top of everything else on the Windows desktop, i.e., a Java program running in the background needs to "pop-up" an error JFrame arbitrarily on top of anything else that is displayed.

I'd search the forums, but I think the only way that this can truly be accomplished is through JNI. If you search for "always on top"+"JNI", I think a couple of people actually created some C classes that will do this.

How can I Clip the top of a video.

I imported a home movie from DVD and when I play it on the computer I get this slim band of junk at the top of the screen. I want to clip it off. Is there a way to zoom in on the video or just clip off the top So I don't see it? I am using Quicktime 7Pro.
If Need be I can use imovie or Final Cut Pro 2 however in the end I would still like this movie to be an MP4 so I can get it on my iPod.

Continuing what QTKirk said, here is a copy & paste from iDVD Guru Fred Shippey's "Recipe for Masking":
Here is the updated procedure - it will give you a black border (or whatever color you use for the mask):
Here is a procedure I put together several years ago to do what you are trying to do that has been changed for QuickTime Pro 7.x. (It may require some modification on your part.
1. Create a 640 x 480 black mask with a slightly lighter black 320 x 240 center in Photoshop. Save it as a JPG file.
2. Open your DiMage X movie in QuickTime Pro. Open the saved mask in another QuickTime Pro player.
3. Select the mask clip and edit->select all and then edit->copy
4. Select the DiMage X clip and then edit -> add to selection & scale
5. Next, select Window -> Show Movie Properties
6. Find the mask video track (Video 2).
7. Click to highlight video track 2 and then click Visual Settings.
8. Change layer setting (bottom center of menu) to 1 (it must be a larger number than the actual movie video track (Video 1)).
9. Click to highlight video track 1 (this should show the original movie).
10. In the Offset window, set the offset to 160 x 120. This will move the movie to the center of the mask.
11. Make sure all tracks are selected in the check boxes.
12. Export it as a DV stream. Bring it into iDVD.

Marking an in or out point in the event browser changes the selected clip

I'm getting quite infuriated with this issue at the moment. I'm not sure if it's a bug, or I'm doing something wrong.
I've created collections of subclips by tagging ranges with keywords in the event browser. I'm now trying to edit these onto the timeline. I find the clip I want in the browser and use JKL and IO to mark the in and out point of the actual part of the clip I'm going to use. The problem I'm having is that sometimes - not all the time - pressing I or O changes the selected clip in the event browser.
Any ideas what's going on?
