  • Persist Database connection over user's session

    On portal 3.0.9 with JPDK v1 I have a web provider that has a jsp portlet. The portlet has multiple pages which are navigated useing a parameter specified with the pageParameterName tag in the provider.xml. Each page needs to be able to access the database and to allow a rollback for all a users actions until a certain page is visited I need a way for all the access to be done through one database connection.
    Putting the dbOpen tag in the event:session_OnStart tag of my globals.jsa file doesn't work (I'm not sure the event:session_OnStart is even executed) and trying to create the connection once with the scope="session" creates an error. Any help would be appreciated.

    Generally speaking, persisting a connection over a users session is a BAD idea. If you really need to do it you simply be able to add the Connection object to the session. However, I would strongly recommend that you review your model because it will not scale.

    I am 17 just learning sql in schooland hence I downloaded sql developer.

    cud anyone explain to me what it is & if possible give me instructions on how to establish one.

    The wonderful thing about these forums is there is a search facility, so that's a great place to start. Welcome to the world of databases and SQL! There is lots of experience in these forums and you can learn a lot.You shouyld search tem whenever you have a question. Take a look at my response to another beginner in this thread.

  • Creating new Data Source Error - Database connection Failed

    Successfully installed and configured 11.1.1.3.0. Planning and Essbase dev.
    Went to Workspace > Administer > Classing Planning Administration > Manage Data Sources > Create Data Source.
    Entered all info about the application database , etc. Getting error "The database connection failed" (I was able to connect with no problem during the install)
    SQL server 2005 is on the same physical server.
    The diagnostic tool shows database connection passed for planning. A new database was created for the new application.
    The server event viewer shows these errors.
    "Login failed for user 'xxx-hyperion'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection."
    Group Policy Error "The client-side extension could not apply computer policy settings for 'Default Domain Policy {xxx}' because it failed with error code '0x80070003 The system cannot find the path specified.' See trace file for more details. "
    The Group Policy client-side extension Group Policy Services failed to execute. Please look for any errors reported earlier by that extension.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Datasource for the application.
    I have created a sql db for this planning application (my datasource). See my first message for more details.
    When you create a new planning application, you need to associate it with a data source. Since this is a new install, I don't have any data sources available yet.
    So, "To create, edit or delete data sources, click Manage Data Source."
    This page lets you validate your connection to the database and essbase server. My essbase server connection validates! The database connection does not validate after I enter all the relevant information.

    So it does not let me create a data source for my new planning application, so I cannot create a new planning application.

  • How to reuse a 9iAS Portal database connection in a BC4J application?

    Hi,
    I have a 9iAS Portal 9.0.2 application, and I want to call a BC4J/UIX application from the Portal application. Ideally I would like to reuse the database connection already established within Portal, because it has authenticated the user with the SSO, and has all of the Portal and VPD settings already in the environment. I don't want to ask the users to re-log in.
    I have looked at the Portal Java PDK and cannot find anything appropriate - has anyone accomplished this, or is there another way of doing this?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    BC4J supports JAAS authentication.. look at the jazn stuff. When u deploy your application on 9ias one of the pages in the wizard asks what kind of authenticatoin you would like to use, you might be able to set something up there...
    Also you an secure the URL in the httpd.conf file so that if a user directly attemps to access that application they are presented with the SSO log in screen.

  • MySQL Database Connection (two databases at the same time)

    I have never had to open more than one MySQL database from within the same website before, but I do now.  The website I have is designed where all the content comes from within the main database.  I am building an Inventory system that I want within it's own database, in the event I would ever need to move the application to another server or something, I don't want this data residing in the main database.
    Currently, I open the database connection from within a file called "common.php" that resides in a directory called "lib" that can be accessed from the root directory.  Below is the proposed code that would be placed within the "common.php" file:
    // Define Database Variables
    $dbserver = "127.0.0.1";
    $dbuser  = array('clevelan_user1', 'clevelan_user2');
    $dbpass  = array('P@ssw0rd', 'P@ssw0rd2');
    $dbname  = array('clevelan_database1', 'clevelan_database2');
    // Start Session
    session_start();
    // Connect to Databases
    connectdb($dbserver, $dbuser[0], $dbpass[0], $dbname[0]);
    connectdb2($dbserver, $dbuser[1], $dbpass[1], $dbname[1]);
    // Database 1 Connection
    function connectdb($dbserver, $dbuser, $dbpass, $dbname) {
    // connects to db
      global $connection;
      $connection = @mysql_connect($dbserver, $dbuser, $dbpass) or die ("could not connect to server");
      $db = @mysql_select_db($dbname, $connection) or die ("could not select databsase");
      return $connection;
    // Database 2 Connection
    function connectdb2($dbserver, $dbuser, $dbpass, $dbname) {
    // connects to db
      global $connection2;
      $connection2 = @mysql_connect($dbserver, $dbuser, $dbpass) or die ("could not connect to server");
      $db2 = @mysql_select_db($dbname, $connection2) or die ("could not select databsase");
      return $connection2;
    //End of Code Within the "common.php"
    From within any page of the website, I want to access both connections by placing an include at the top of each page:
    include_once("lib/common.php");
    Currently, when I run the code above, any page within the website (the home page) provides error messages with regards to database connectivity (the pages are looking for there content from within the second database.  It's as if the second database is the only database seen by the website.
    I need help figuring out how I can have two MySQL databases open at the same time (the second database will only be open for short periods of time and then closed).  But the main database is always open.

    Create one project using one copy of the exact tables.
    create 2 different sessions.xml files each pointing to the same project. Set the login information in the sessions.xml files.
    That should work fine.

  • Unable to acheive database connectivity in my servlet prog.....

    HELLO ALL......
    IM USING ORACLE 9I(ORAHOME 90) FOR MY DATABASE CONNECTIVITY..PLUS IM USING TOMCAT 5.5.7 ..... IM TRYING TO ACHIEVE CONNECTIVITY USING JDBCODBC BRIDGE....THAT IS DRIVER OF THE FIRST TYPE.....IM NOT USING THIN DRIVER.....BUT SOMEHOW MY SERVLET IS NOT ACHIEVING THE DATABASE CONNECTIVITY....IT SHOWS NO DATA SOURCE NAME FOUND AND NO DEFAULT DRIVER SPECIFIED....... I DONT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS .... I TRIED TO FIND IT ON THE NET AND APPLIED SOME OF THE MEASURES BUT NOT FRUITFUL......... ONE SOLUTION SAID THAT I NEED TO PLACE OJDBC14.JAR FILE IN MY COMMON/LIB FOLDER ...BUT IM UNABLE TO FIND THAT JAR FILE.....WHAT TO DO.. PLEASE HELP...... IM TOTALLY FRUSTRATED DUE TO WHICH IM NOT ABLE TO DO ANY SERVLET PROGRAMMING THAT INVOLVES DATABASE CONNECTIVITY...
    THANKS IN ADVANCE

    First of all, don't type everything in uppercase. It is unreadable and impolite (to shout at someone).
    Second, you should not be using the JDBC-ODBC driver for connecting to a Oracle database. There is a pure Java type -4 driver for Oracle available for download. Check the Oracle download page.
    Third, your ojdbc14.jar should NOT be added to common/lib. You should place it in the WEB-INF/lib for the web application. It is not a good idea to mix custom jars with the server libraries.
    Finally, you need to configure a datasource in Tomcat and use that to obtain a connection.

  • I can't get a database connection.

    Background: I've already built two sites with databases using DW CS6, PHPMySQL, and the same hosting company, so I know they allow remote connections. (I'm developing using the remote host because I've never found a tutorial for how to move it all from local XAMPP to my host - but hey, it's been working fine so far.)
    I set up the database using CPanel Databases, added the user and password, no problem. Went into PHP MySQL and added a table, logged out and back in, the table is there as defined.
    In DW, I double-checked the testing server, tested the connection, and it connected successfully.
    Then I opened a page for editing and added a database connection (all as I had done on the previous two sites that work fine). I named the connection, entered the user, the password and tried to SELECT a database. No luck. HTTP Error 404. I manually added the database (the only one) and clicked test. Again no luck. HPPT Error 404.
    I double checked the testing server, double checked the DB information, and nothing seems to work.
    Any clue what I'm doing wrong? Thanks so much if you can help.

    UPDATE:
    Okay, this is really getting weird. As a typcial computer nerd, I know there are many roads to success, so if one doesn't work, try another.
    Trying a different solution, I opened a test.php page and wrote the following code:
    <?php
    echo "<p>Now testing database connection.</p>\n";
    $db_server = "localhost";
    $db_username = "mcsb831_mbradmin";
    $db_password = "***(redacted)***";
    $link = mysql_connect($db_server, $db_username, $db_password);
    if (!$link) {
        echo "Could NOT connect.<br />\n";
    }else{
        echo "Connected Successfully.<br />\n";
        mysql_close($link);
    I loaded the page to the server and guess what? I got the message "Connected Successfully."
    Hooray! Now I know the database server is running, and the database and user name and password are valid.
    I went to the DW MbrConnect01.php file (the name of the CONNECTION file that Dreamweaver creates when I tried to make the connection through DW), and verified the database name, user name, and password were correct -- I copied and pasted them from the code above to make absolutely certain there were no transcription errors. Here's that file:
    <?php
    # FileName="Connection_php_mysql.htm"
    # Type="MYSQL"
    # HTTP="true"
    $hostname_MbrConnec01 = "localhost";
    $database_MbrConnec01 = "mcsb831_members";
    $username_MbrConnec01 = "mcsb831_mbradmin";
    $password_MbrConnec01 = "***(redacted)***";
    $MbrConnec01 = mysql_pconnect($hostname_MbrConnec01, $username_MbrConnec01, $password_MbrConnec01) or trigger_error(mysql_error(),E_USER_ERROR);
    ?>
    And guess what?
    I GOT THE STINKING ERROR MESSAGE AGAIN!!
    (See previous post for the full text of the message.
    Yes, I checked the server using an FTP browser for the presence of the required files, and they are there.
    Does anyone have a clue what's going on here? I would absolutely love to use DW's DB automation tools, but none of them will work if I can't get a DW connection to work.
    I notice that my code uses mysql_connect while the DW-generated code uses mysql_pconnect (which is deprecated), could that be the culprit? How do I fix it if so?
    PLEASE, can someone help?
