Dont want itunes to copy my music

I have my own choice of music stored on my iBook..When i play it on the iTunes, it copies it again..This produces duplication of the files..I dont want this to happen coz i fine it difficult to search music on iTunes..I want to go to the specific folder where i have saved the music, and then play it..
Can i stop itunes from copying the music again..How can i??
Thanx..

Hope this will not effect in the deletion of some of my songs..And wat if i want to transfer some of my songs from the itunes folder to the original folder where i had saved it earlier..

i had purchased an apps, now i want to cancel that purchase and i dont want itunes to keep on deducting my card..pls help me

Do you mean that it's an auto-renewing subscription ? If you do then there are instructions on this page for managing and stopping them : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4098
If you want a refund for what you've already bought then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Can I change the file path that itunes reads my music files from? 65000 files trying to be transferrd from external to internal HD. I dont want itunes to manage my collection, just read it. thanks

Can I change the file path that itunes reads my music files from?
I have about 65000 music files that i have transferrd from my external to a new laptop internal HD.
I have organised the folders myself as I use a PC and do not want itunes to organise the folders because when I'm searching through music on windows it is sorted out by artists/albums with 'the...(eg  The Beatles)' under 'T' instead of 'B'.
Long story short.... Is there any way that I can keep my itunes library as it is on the external HD and copy it to the new laptops C drive, keep all the info (playlists etc) and still have the same folder structure as on the external HD?
Or, is there any way of making windows sort things in alphabetical order like it is in itunes (eliminating the 'the' issue)?

The files that weren't inside the media folder on the original machine need to be copied over to exactly the same paths as they had on the source machine. See this thread for an ongoing discussion of a similar problem. See also this post on migrating the iTunes library.

  • Want to use copy of music folder as original for itunes library

Had my iTunes music folder located on an external hd 1 that recently failed. Had recently made a copy of that music folder on a separate external hd 2. My question is can i plug in my external hd 2 with that music folder copy, open iTunes, and when it asks for the location of the music folder can i just point it to the external hd 2 music folder and have the iTunes library use that location instead? Will it keep all my same playlists, album covers, library ect. all the way it was before but just grab the music from a different location? Want to know before i try it and mess up the library I've got going on. I've done a lot of work installing album covers I couldn't find and lots of ratings that I don't want to loose. Thanks for any help in this situation.

don't want to ruin any future options if i don't have to.
Then the first thing you should do is to backup your iTunes folder (i.e. all the components except the iTunes Music folder, which you should also back up at some point in case history repeats itself).
The worst thing that could happen is that the links between the iTunes Library file and the copied music folder are broken so you would see ! against all your tracks. If that happens you could try pointing towards the copied music folder using the iTunes Preferences. Hopefully that won't happen - if the file path names that are in the iTunes Library file are actually there in reality (even though the physical drive is actually different), then iTunes may not even 'know' that anything has changed.
The fact is, your Library still exists and was not corrupted by the crash. Your music still exists as you had a backup copy. It's just a matter of marrying the two together. If what I suggested doesn't work there are other things we could try.

  • Im having trouble launching my itunes library, Everytime i try to launch it an error message appears and says "New Itunes Libraray" How do i fix this? I dont want to lose all my music

Anybody else having a problem saying "new itunes library"? this happened out of the blue, and i have tried numerous things, but i can not get into my itunes at all.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Is there a way to sync my music from my ipod to a computer without deleting it, the original computer i had it on crashed and i really dont want to lose all my music

My computer that i had my itunes crashed and i wanted to know if there was a way to transfer my music from my ipod to a new computer without completely having to resync every cd. I already have the purchased music transfered.

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases:  File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup cppy to put everything back.

  • How do I stop iTunes from copying my music to the iTunes music file?

We have an Intel iMac running Tiger with a 146 GB hard drive, so imagine my shock when I discovered that we only had 2gb of space left! We are a family and have 5 users with 5 different iTunes libraries on each of our log ins. So I made a Shared Music folder for all our music that we could take songs from. I worked out that iTunes copies any music that you have into a new folder, meaning that we had 6 times the music we needed. So instead of 10gb of music in one Shared Music folder that I created, there was 60 gb of mostly copies.
So how do I make it so that we only have one folder with our music in, rather than 5 with 6 copies of the songs that we don't need?
Basically, I want to stop it from creating the iTunes music folder.

Turn off the option to automatically copy music to the iTunes music folder in the Advanced section of the iTunes preferences, place all the music in a shared location, and create new libraries as needed.

  • Help, i dont want to loose all my music on my ipod

heres what happend. i was reinstalling windows and i put all my (12gb) worth of music on my ipod.. i just copy and pasted it onto the ipod. i basically deleted everything off of it and used it as a external hard drive... i then went ahead and reinstalled windows.. now when i connect it to my pc, i go to my computer and the ipod comes up as "Removable Disk (E:)" and when i double click on it it says "The disk in drive (E:) is not formatted, do you want to format it now"... i cant even access the inside and copy paste all my music back onto my pc. i installed itunes and when i connect the ipod this pops up "ipod seems to be corrupt, it needs to be reset to factory settings before use" (something to that effect).. it just lists Name: IPod, Capacity: n/a, Software version... and when i click "restore" it says everything will be wiped off the ipod (all my 12gb of music)... can someone help me get the files off the ipod...
thanks i hope you all understood what i said.

I don't remember if Restore deletes the files stored directly on the iPod's drive (not part of the hidden iTunes directories). However, if you are already at the "connect to power adapter" step, Restore has already done most of its work. The last step just re-initializes the iPod's internal software. So you should just complete the Restore and see if those files are still there.

  • Restore button unavailable, iTunes not copying any music to ipod since 7.3

I don't know if it is related to my problems, but I just updated to iTunes 7.3 via software update. I synced my iPod for the first time yesterday. When I went to browse the music on the iPod, it showed that there were no items listed under Playlist, music, artist, song, etc... The ipod has all of my photos, calendars, and contacts on it, but no music. iTunes is telling me that the ipod has my entire library on it along with playlists. When I go to about on the ipod itself, it says that I have 6 GB of music on there, but I am unable to play it. I have tried restoring on a different computer, restoring with windows and then restoring with a mac to make sure that everything is wiped off, but no matter what, my computer isn't letting me put music on this ipod. Any ideas?

  • HT3702 i dont want itunes to automatically charge my card if i want an app can they ask permission before it is charged?

is there an option for itunes to ask if i am sure i want to purchase an app before they charge mycard?

I'm guessing here but I wonder if there is an issue with credit card validation in Mexico at the moment.  There's been a number of posts in Spanish about credit cards this moring, and several from Mexico.

  • Removing folders that Itunes monitors for new music

How do I make it so Itunes wil stop looking for music in a particular folder that I did and "add folder to Library" on? I added a removable drive as a folder that Itunes searches for music on. Now I don't want itunes to look for music in that foler anymore how do I remove it from the folders that Itunes searches?

iTunes does not automatically watch folders for new music. The only exceptions are the one-time scan on a new install, and the new Automatically Add to iTunes folder that is new in iTunes 9. What are you trying to do?

Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
