Dot mac e-mail won't work.

Mail keeps asking me for my password, and .Mac web mail says it's not available - but the status indicator shows normal service (green)? This has been since Friday, and now it's monday. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Thanks. I guess it's not just mine.
If you figure out what's happening let me know!
Thanks again!

  • My itunes store, app center, safari and mail won't work after upgrade

I am very dissapointed in the new maverick upgrade. My app center, itune store, safari, and me mail won't work with the new upgrade. I called the help desk and they had me uninstall and re install the upgrade. he said i should have everything backed up cuz I will lose everything, but nothing was lost. It worked for a day, but now it doesn't work at all. it just gives me the hourglass circle symbol and finally times out. A couple of times  my computer gave me an error code that i wasn't connected to the internet, even though I could use chrome no problem. Another error code I got was that I wasn't signed in, but I am. Any suggestions?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

How are you trying to access gmail? Are you using their web mail page at www.gmail.com? Or using the Apple Mail application? Or something else?
If you are trying to use the web mail, what browser are you using? Does the failure occur when you try to load the initial page, or after you try to log in?

  • Help in the mail won't work

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this but I'm lost. The help in the mail programme on OSX 10.4 won't work; the small window appears but nothing comes up and I have to force quit to close it. I'm trying to send an attachment and finding it impossible. In the missing manual book it says that I should be able to compress the picture but the button isn't there for me to do this. What is wrong and what can I do to make it right? Also I tried to send an attachment online at the yahoo site but the browser does not support this Why? Any help will be very welcome Thank you. Teresa

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this but I'm lost. The help in the mail programme on OSX 10.4 won't work...
It's alright, but a better place to post questions about Tiger's Mail application would be the Mac OS X > Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger > Mail & Address Book discussion area.

  • My mail won't work

This may be a stupid question, but why wont my mail update? I recieve my mail on time on my iPhone, but it does not show up on my mac until it has been a while. It seems that my mail gets deleted right after as well. I know I can just search it up in the search bar, but I would like it to be right there, like it is on my phone.

I would love an answer to this as well. As soon as I moved to iCloud, my .mac email stopped working. It won't work on my iPod, Apple Mail or on the iCloud website itself. It just keeps giving me an error message.

  • Mail won't work unless I use my MobileMe account which is dead

I've been trying to use my Apple Mail app in 10.6.8, but whenever I try to it asks for my MobileMe password. It then tries to set up a MobileMe mail account. I don't want nor need any account except my work account. I try to delete the MobileMe account in the Mail preferences window, but it keeps coming back. This is a dead application, so I'm not sure what is happening. When I try to create my work account it tells me it can't verify the password. Very strange. The words "MobileMe IMAP" appear after Account Type in the Accounts window and it cannot be deleated! It then tries to guide me to set up an additional account and it automatically puts in my five years defunct mac.com account! What is going on! I have to go through the motions of this bogus account before it lets me go any further to set up a functional email account. How do I get rid of this ghost account? Thanks in advance.
    MH Brown

    Hi Michael,
If Mail won't allow you to change the settings when setting up a new account, you may want to make sure that "Automatically set up account" isn't enabled. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Mail won't work in 10.7.5

I recently upgraded to a MacBookPro running 10.8 and it's fine. I too the HD out of my older MacBook and turned it into an external runing 10.7. I discovered when starting up in 10.8 that I coul not acces the Mail an AddressBook files on the 10.7 external. If i tried to open Mail I'd get a message saying Mail canot be used with this OSX.
No problem. If i needed those files I simply switched start up to the external and all was fine. BUT, tonight I (accidentally) used software update and upgraded the External to 10.7.5. Now Mail (5.2) that did work fine before the upgrade no longer works. I get the same message as above. Mail help says try opening the Mail in my apps folder --- done that, same result. Now I can't access those mail files at all???
To recap -- External drive with 10.7 and Mail 5.2 worled fine. Now upgraded to 10.7.5 Mail does not work. Internal HD running 10.8 with Mail 6.1 works fine BUT won't open the older files in Mail 5.2.
Bottom line I want to get access to those files using either HD - internal or external. Can I undo the upgrade to 10.7.5? Can I otherwise moves those files so Mail 6.1 will open them??
I tried to go back and custom reinstall mail from my 10.6 discs but that won't work because a newer version is installed (10.7). I'm at a reall loss.

I have the same audiocard, and i've not installed it over lion yet. But I saw in other forums that boot in 32bit mode (pressing 3 and 2 keys during boot) may solve the issue.
    Hope it helps.

  • Safari stops working.  Mail won't work with Safari running.  Now iTunes can't find my phone.  If I restart and do one thing at a time it helps but still not reliable.  All software on my iMac is up to date.

I have a new iMac and iPhone 4.0.  All software is up to date and I have installed the free beta version of Mountain Lion which let me use iChat on my computer.  Safari intermittently stops working.  Mail won't access my mailboxes if Safari is running.  Now iTunes won't find my iPhone when it's locked and in a dock charging.  If I restart I can do 1 thing at a time, but I can't have Safari running and use Mail.  I've emptied my cache, checked my passwords.  It's none of that.  By process of elimination, there is some kind of conflict between using multiple applications on the Internet at the same time.  Sometimes after I've gone to several Internet sites Safari will stop working properly even though all other applications have been "quit".

Oops. You installed the beta Mountain Lion on your main hard disk? Usually most people install it on a secondary or external hard drive. Your situation should actually be posted on the Developer web site for Moutnain Lion and not here. All I can suggest here is to run repair permissions and restart. Sorry.

    Hey saxon198
If it is just the one user account, then the next step would be to migrate the data that you have to a new user. The best method is to copy your Home Folder to an external hard drive. The next step after that is complete is to delete the user that is causing the issue. Then all you have to do is to copy your data back over. Just copy the contents of the documents folder into the new documents folder instead of replacing it. Now things that probably will not make the move unless you have iCloud or another syncing service is Contacts, Calendars and Notes. You can export those if needed. If it seems confusing or to daunting, then the next step would be to contact Apple Support for further help. I have provided a link to do so with multiple different options for you.

  • ITouch mail won't work on my home network, works everywhere else.

My 2nd generation itouch's email won't work on my home network. I get a message that says something like "Unable to connect to Pop3 server." It works on other people's home networks, public networks, etc. Just not mine. I'm guessing my router / modem has a setting somewhere that is the problem. Verizon won't help me because it's a device problem, not an internet problem (their opinion). I have read all of the posts on the forum about this mail issue, but since it works everywhere else, I don't think it's an itouch issue. It's a Verizon Westell modem. thanks for any help.

I have had the same problem and just solved it. My home wireless is with ATT and they told me they have been receiving a lot of problems with users suddenly unable to gain access to wi-fi in their home. When we checked my wireless home connection the I.P address on my ITouch was incorrect. The prior IP address was not correct and 'somehow' got corrupted...no one knows how that happened. My cust service rep was excellent and walked me through renaming my wireless hardware as well as changing my channel - and it worked. we changed the name of my wireless modem/router, then changed the channel...to a different number than it was. You are correct in that the problem is with home service. my rep actually took me to an ip address ---numbers not a www address where we made the changes- I hope this helped. If I can be of assistance please let me know.

  • Mail won't work since upgrading to Leopard

I just upgraded to Leopard and now Mail doesn't work at all. I click on the icon and it says, "You cannot use the application "Mail" with this version of Mac OS X. Everything else works fine.

you may have more than one Mail.app on your computer, and you may try to launch the Tiger version instead of the Leopard version. Can you search for Mail.app and see if indeed you have more than one, then select Mail.app 3.0, the leopard version and start it up.
Once you have located the correct version, trash the old one.
    hope this helps

  • Ovi Mail won't work on 3120c

I have been trying in vain all day to get email to work on my nokia 3120 classic, to no avail.  I have registered for ovi mail and it works fine on my PC, however it just won't work on my phone!  I have tried using the settings as shown on ovi support site but it's hard to know if I am doing it right (though I'm pretty sure I am, and I have changed everything around a million times but it's not working, no matter what) as they all have different names etc. In any case when I try to connect to my mailbox it just says "connecting to mailbox" for about 2 or 3 minutes then stops, offline, never connecting.  Incidentally I have the same problem with Opera Mini (installing forever, never completing just eventually stopping) though I have read in other topics that it just doesn't work on the 3120c.  Someone please help!  I have trawled the internet for an answer and I have tried everything but it just won't work!

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Check the settings under the "Advanced" tab of the Accounts panel to see if they're all proper for your mail provider.
