Doubt on Navigational attribute

Hi All,
Can we create variables above navigational attributes in bex reporting. Any pointers would be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ashok

Sure you can, there is no difference to the handling of regular characteristics. Just try it.

  • Doubt in Navigational Attribute

    Hi All
We have attribute and upon requirement we have changed that attribute to Navigational attribute? and for a period of a month this has been using in the reports.
Now requirement changes and customer says he does'nt need this navigational attribute and he wants to chnage this to display attribute.
Now if I change this navigational attribute to display attribute will there will be effect???
    Regards
    Balji

It appears from your question that you have not changed the property of the infoobject from attribute to navigational attribute( by unchecking the attribute only option in the General tab of infoobject) but has changed the properties while selecting the object n the cube from attribute only to navigational attribute. If you change this agin then the Infocube will become inactive as well all update rules will also become inactive. Following this the Multiproviders based on this cube will also become inactive. Alll you need to do this change the attribute properties and activate all objects cube , update rule and multiprovider.
Also there is one catch the data already loaded in the cube will have sid linkage for the navigational trribute and probably it needs to be reconstructed before the data is avilable for reporting correctly. I am not sure on this. You may do this in development and see if it has any effct on the data already loaded in the cube.
You don't need to worry about queries ..just remve it from the selection for characteristic drill down.

  • Poor Performance with Webi on top of BW - Large Navigational Attributes

We have recently developed a reporting model based on having a BW cube of approx 20 million records. This has 2 very large line item dimensions (one 14 million records, on 6 million records) that both have navigational attributes stored against them.
We need the design to be like this because the attributes change monthly and we do not wish to do a complete drop and reload of cube data each month (this takes 10-12 hours).
When we build a Universe on top of the cube and try Webi reporting the performance is dreadful - many reports time out completely. This happens whether or not the large line item dimensions are selected in the query. The BW query is very simple just 2 key figures and approx 30 Navigational Attributes as default values. No filters are applied.
For example a query that just contains Calander Year and one key figure either times out after 10 minutes or fails.
Our source of the data is Oracle tables and the same query runs in 2 1/2 minutes and the query runs in RSRT in approx 5 minutes with no problems so it is definately a problem with BOBJ to MDX to BW.
We are on BW7.01 SP5 and XI3.1 SP2. SAP have recommend going to SP3 and using query stripping to help with this but I doubt if this will work.
We have tried building aggregates, splitting into yearly cubes etc but nothing seems to help.
My question is do the large navigational attributes mean Webi simply can't cope with this?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the suggestions.
Although this did not directly help I've now found a solution.
We had a calculated key figure in the query that doing a count of records on a huge navigational attribute. This was causing all queries to run very slowly (even if the key figure wasn't selected in Webi).
Removing it solved the problem. Will have to find another way to  do the count key figure.
    Thanks

  • Navigational Attribute Clarification

    Hi all,
I have gone  thru the forum for this concept.
Still i have little bit confusion on this.
Wat i understood is, Nav Attr behaves like a characterstic in Reporting, wat my doubt is instead of creating Nav Attr why don't we go for Creating that as a characterstic.
If we create a field as a navigational attribute from where it fetches the data during the reporting.
If i created a fiels as a characterstic from where it fetches the data during reporting.
    Please
    Regards,
    Madhu

    Hi,
A NAV is already a characteristic.
I believe that your question is more: why don't we store the characteristic directly in the InfoProvider instead of reporting on a NAV.
Suppose you sell articles (the basic char; CAMCORDER XYZ)
Suppose each article has an attribute "STATUS" = LIVE or DISCONTINUED.
Now you load your sales in a sales cube; you post the selling date, the article ID and it's status. When the article has been just listed (in JAN) to your shop it has the status LIVE, so you'll post something like
    JAN__CAMCORDER XYZ__LIVE__$100
Now the status is set to discontinued by a buyer in FEB. Still you sell the remaining pieces:
    FEB_CAMCORDER XYZ_DISC_$2000
Interesting to see that your cube can tell the turn over of this CAMCORDER depeding on its status over time.
Now the buyers might be interested to report only on LIVE articles.
Obviously filtering a query on STATUS = LIVE will still show $100 turn over in JAN, even if the article is now discontinued.
This is when the NAV enters into the into the game. If you enable the attribute STATUS as NAV of MATERIAL in your provider and filter you query ON MATERIAL__STATUS = LIVE, the CAMCORDER XYZ won't show up anymore.
just adding: during reporting, the X table of your basic char will give the SID of your NAV. Reporting with NAV add joins between tables, which can impact performance if not tuned properly.
    hoping this clear you doubts...
    Olivier.

  • To switch on the Navigational attribute feature in the info object

    Hi there,
I have a sceanario where I created an info-object to extract the KNKK table information.
I am using the datasource 0fi_ar_9 to do flexible update to this info-object.
The issue is that: I am adding the required infoobects as attributes to this infoobject.
I want to switch on these attributes as  navigational attributes.
But to some of them I am getting the option to switch it on as Nav and not all. Like 0C_CTR_AREA has got the icon Navigational attr on/off. Also 0CRED_GROUP has got this icon across it.
    But objects like
    0LST_INT_RV -Last Internal Review
    0LST_REVIEW -Last Review (external)
    0REPR_GROUP -Credit management representatives group
    0NXT_REVIEW-Next Review
do not have the Navigational attribute on/off icon across them.  So I am unable to change them to Nav.
Any advise why is the behaviour different for different objects ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind Regards,
    Kate

    Hi There,
    Many thanks for the answer.
It really solved my doubt about this.
This means that I need to create customised info objects
to add them as navigational attributes.
Just wanted to know what is the advantage of creating infoobjects as reference charateristics of standard infoobjects.
    Thanks once again.

  • Navigational attribute in Transformation.

    Dear all,
We are using BI7.00. For one of our problem in DTP, we wanted to apply the OSS note number 1145673.  I have some doubts in this note.
    1) In the solution part the following is mentioned.
    "Solution
For technical reasons (see symptom), this note deactivates the use of
    navigation attributes in transformations.
We do not plan to reactivate the use of the navigation attributes. If
you require navigation attributes, you can use the rule type "Read
    master data" in the transformation."
Q:- Where in transformation do we mention the navigational attribute?
I could not understand the above can experts clarify my doubt and what i should do after applying this note. Step by step information will be really helpful.
    Regards,
    M.M

    Hi
After you apply the OSS note, Nav attribute 0Plant in the transformation will be de-activated and it wont be available in the transformation. Read master data can be used if at all you need to use read from master data in place of nav attributes.
    Please consider the below example:
    Before applying the note:
Assume that you have the below mappings in your transformation
    Source fields                       Target field
    VBELN   -
    >                   DOC_NUMBER
    POSNR  -
    >                   S_ORD_ITEM
    werks     -
    >               Plant (nav attributes activated in the transformation)
Note : Plant is a nav attribute of material.
    After applying the note:
    Source fields                       Target field
    VBELN   -
    >                   DOC_NUMBER
    POSNR  -
    >                   S_ORD_ITEM
    werks -
    >                Material (Rule type should be read master data ie plant)
If the nav attribute is not mapped to any field then you can just leave it. After applying the oss note it will be de-activated.
    Answers for your queries:
    1. Only transformation and dtp will be de-activated because of this note. Those are the objects which will be impacted by this note.
    2. The nav attribute in the transformation might extract the data in multiples of 30 so the data load should be checked after applying oss notes. I dont think we have checked for anyother thing when we applied the note.
    Hope it helps

  • Navigational attributes time dependent in queries

    Hello Guys,
I have a doubt, I have a master data with navigational attributes and time dependent  and I need display from a query a comparative date between 2 navigational attributes; the value of the master data's attribute navigational and time dependent.
    It is possible?
    Thank you very much.
    Regards,
    Jeysi

    I describe the case again:
I need display a comparative between 2 time period based in navigational attributes in a Query.
It is possible?  I think that only a date is possible because the key date controls the output to the date specified or by default to today. Is it correct?, if I need keep historical information must save in the cubo each attribute neccesary for comparation to a period.
    Thank you very much.
    Regards,
    Jeysi

  • Navigation attribute behaviour during time dependent master data read

    Hi All,
My report is based on infocube. There is one time depenedent master data characteristic named 0EMPLOYEE in the cube.
My report is run for a specific time period. For example Monthly and quaterly level.
There are many infoobject form part of dimension in cube and few are part of navigation attribute folder.
Now in the transformation there are some fields which needs to be read from master data depending upon some time characteristic for ex:-0CALMONTH, 0CALDAY. This rule is mapped correctly and data is also being stored correctly as per the specific time period in the cube.
Now there are some navigation attirbute which reads the data from 0EMPLOYEE master data itself.
My doubt is will navigation attribute read the latest record for the employee or is it intelligent enough to read the right records depending upon specific time char?
With navigation attribute we dont have option to specify any rule as compared to normal objects in transformation.
What will navigation attribute read ? Latest record or speicific records as per time period?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Anup

    Hi Anup,
Let me give you one small example about time dependent attribute work,
let us say we have 0COSTCENTER as time dependent attribute of 0CUSTOMER. Now in your transaction data you have loaded values of 0CUSTOMER and in the query you have used 0CUSTOMER_COSTCENTER attribute.
    Transaction Data,
    Tran. no.      Customer Number       Amount
      1                      123                          500
       2                      125                         450
       3                     126                          900
    Master Data:
Customer      Cost Center       Valid From             Valid To
      123                COST1                1st Jan                 15th Jan
       123               COST2                 16th Jan              30 March
      123                 COST3                31st March          30 June
In the above example the data loaded for valid to and valid from has came from source system and for this data you will have direct mapping done in transformation. Now data will reside as above in your system.
When you use Key date as 20th Jan then the cost center for customer 123 in the query will be shown as COST2. So this assignment of time dependent data is done at runtime only and will not have any impact on underlying data.
    Regards,
    Durgesh.

  • Unable to view Navigational Attributes in ODS

    Dear All,
We have enabled Material Group as Navigational Attribute in Material. Material has been included in ODS as Key Field. In ODS also Material Group is switched as Nav Attr. Now when I check in Reports I am getting # for all Material Groups. I checked in ListCube. Here also I am getting # values.
I did master Data Activation and also did Attribute change run. Where as I am able to view values for Material Group in Material Master Data.
    Regards
    Ravi Y

    Hi Ravi,
You could check if the X/Y table of material group are correct.
Do RSRV  combination check on the info object material and material group. Run all the tests...espeially the consistency of X and Y tables..
Also, you could probably check if this is some authorization issue... that you dont have authorization to view contents of material group...(may not be the case, but worth a check )...
Sounds strange though, if all is ok and u still dont see material group. (and sometimes it cud be a refresh issue as lalit suggests....., if it has to get wierd )
    Hope it helps,
    Regards,
    Sunmit.

  • Navigational Attribute data is not display in Cube level and reporting

    Hello ALL
Iam facing a problem like,I created Navigational attribute and I selected that navigational attribute in cube level also but data is not display in cube level.
What will be the problem?Pl help me out.
    regards
    balaji

    Hi Dinesh
You mean base characteristic means loading data after creating Navigational attribute? Is it this way,(orelse can u tell me about this base characterstic)
Yes after making that particular attribute as a navigational attribute I loaded data in master data tables.
How to run Attribute change run?can u give me steps

  • Navigational attribute in Cube

    Hi Gurus,
I want to understand one point before I am going to perform a small enhancement.
I need to set a navigational attribute in a cube(before it is not checked on "I/O") meaning make this navigational attribute behave as a char., but this cube contains data already, my question is :
can I make this change ? if yes any other additional effort?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Ryan,
The attr needs to be marked and activated as Navigational Attr in the parent char first. Then you can mark it as nav attr in the cube (which contains the parent char). Does not matter if the cube contains data...you can do this activity in a cube with data. Remember to reactivate the cube's update rules and any multiproviders that it is a part of after you make this change.
    Hope this helps...

  • Adding navigational attributes to a cube

We have upgraded to BW 7.3. Previously when we added navigational attributes to a cube we need to activate the update rules from the ods but now it appears that we don't need to do that anymore. Is this the expected behavaior?  We are using the 3.5 update rules.
    thanks

    HI,
If you are using 3.5, after selecting nav attr in the cube, the cube structure gets deactivated. The dependent update rules also gets deactivated. You will be forced to activate all again.
In BW 7.3, SAP would have given privilege to add without activation. It is good for us. So nothing to worry.

  • Code needed for a Navigational Attribute.

    Hi Experts,
I have a requirement to update records on a Navigational Attribute of an Infobject in an DSO.
DSO A has key figures Region & 0calmonth. Data fields Price, Quantity, Place & Name. DSO B has key figures 0customer & Data Filelds Plant, Material etc. DSO B Plant's Navigational Attribute is  Region /BI0/OIREGION.
Now, I want to link the Region of DSO A with the Navigational Attribute of DSO B with Region /BI0/OIREGION and update the values of DSO A in DSO B.
For this I want to write a code in the END ROUTINE. Please provide me with the code.
    Thanks in advance,
    With Kind Regards,
    Kannan Jagadeesan.

    Hi,
      data : begin of itab1 OCCURS 0,
             Region type /BI0/OIREGION-Region,
             OBJVERS  type  RSOBJVERS,
             calmonth  type /BI0/OICALMONTH- calmonth
            END OF itab1.
    select * from /bic/DSOaa00 into table itab1    * this is DSO A*
      for all entries in DATA_PACKAGE
      where /BI0/OIREGION = DATA_PACKAGE-/BI0/OIREGION..
      loop at  DATA_PACKAGE.
        select /BI0/OIREGION
            /BI0/OICALMONTH
       from /bic/DSOaa00
       into TABLE itab1
       where  /BI0/OIREGION = DATA_PACKAGE-/BI0/OIREGION
        If sy-subrc = 0.
          sort itab.
        endif.
read table itab with key /BI0/OIREGION = DATA_PACKAGE-/BI0/OIREGION.
        if sy-subrc = 0.
          /BI0/OIREGION = ITAB1-Region.
          endif.
this is the dry draft to read the oregion navigational object.
try to correct accordingly in your system and implement it.
    hope this helps you

  • BI-IP / Formula navigation attribute

    Hi,
i have the following problem and hope somebody can help.
I have a BI-IP planing function (Fox-Formula) which simply copies the keyfigure Amount from the characteristic company (#) to the characteristic company (8703).
    { KI_LCCUR, 8703 } = { KI_LCCUR,# }.
this characterisic has also a navigation attribute headquarter.
when i run the function the following error message appears:
8703,# is invalid: Valid is 8703,DE. Characteristic "ZCompany"
which means  to me the master data for charactersitic company 8703 and its attribute Headquarter # is not valid, which is true. But what do i need to do in order to use the right combination 8703,DE?
Is there a way to make fox formula to find the right value for the attribute? is there a way use navigation attribute in fox formule?
Thanks for your help in advance!
    Mike

    Hi,
The problem can be due to the mapping in the cube.
    Please reactivate your cube.
If you are using a multi-provider, then please check that the navigational attribute is defined in all the cubes in mulitprovider.
    Regards,
    Amit

  • How to show data for navigational attribute in a report ?

    Hello all,
I have a hierarchy info object A which has a navigational attribute(hierarchy) B. I need to filter on B for a particular node.
I have added A in the filter column and selected B as the attribute. How can i restrict B for a particular hierarchy node ?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    S N

    Hi,
Have you defined 'B' as Navigational attribute at InfoProvider Level?
You can Restrict B for a Particular Value once it is defined as Navigational attribute at InfoProvder level.
Go to InfoProvider maintaince>click 'nav attributes'>enable it (check the box).activate the InfoProvider.
Then you can see it under same dimension where 'A' is assigned and its name would be  A_B.
Drag and drop in to rows and restrict(include/exclude) with required value.
    thanks
