In 2008, 2009, 2010, I bought numerous seasons of a lot of TV seasons. I backed them up on a WD Passport, then bought a new iMac and had my old one totally cleaned and re-installed the OS. Is there a way to recoup these purchases! I probably have close to $3000 invested in these.

  • Mac Pro 2009-2010 firmware tool

Has anyone tried the Mac Pro 2009-2010 firmware tool hack that is floating around out there? It seems to work with no problems. A cheap way to turn your 2009 quad core into a 2010 hexacore. The price on the Xeon W3680 3.33Ghz Westmere has come down out of the stratosphere into the $500 range. $500 for that kind of speed improvement and the ability to run 1333Mhz RAM seems like a no brainer if one were thinking about upgrading. Have other people tried this?

This is not the place and no I have not heard, if there is/was it would be talked about on MacRumors, netkas or others. And I don't think it would be just firmware update. OWC Turnkey program involves more than just firmware change.
The W33680 was $590 but has gone up (popularity and supply/demand) to $620. Not $500 (though if you sell your cpu later then the out of pocket might be more like $400).

  • My project will only build an EXE in 8.5 but not 8.6, 2009, 2010, or 2011

    Hi there.
I have come across bug in the LabVIEW programming enviroment.
I have a project that consists of about 600 VI's... ie very large.
The project compiles and runs perfectly fine and I can create an EXE in Windows 7 or Windows XP using LabVIEW 8.5 that works perfectly fine.
I can then take take this project and import it into 8.6, 2009 , 2010, or 2011 (after a very long time manually opening most of the vis and saving them - as the automatic method causes it to crash) - but once imported and updated the project runs fine in each of these newer versions of labVIEW.
The problem arises when I try to compile the project into an EXE...(using any labVIEW 8.6 or higher)
the first error (or feature? who knows) is that instead of creating an EXE with the project name it instead creates a FOLDER witht the project name and proceeds to copy all the vis into this folder,... - i assume it must be part of the newer compile features and that after 5-10 mins it might delete those when it finally creates a EXE... but instead at the end it gives me a compile errror message saying it cannot save a Vi with a bad or missing block diagram.. (but the vi in question is fine when I open it, and it runs fine...no missing diagram etc)..
Normally in 8.5 I get the *.EXE and an *.alias file, and a *.ini and a folder called data with some dlls in it...
but in any later labview version the EXE fails to compile and I get random errors...
The 1502 error is the the most common..
but I get others too, haven't saved them all -
but error 6 has occured a few times...

Hi everyone, thanks for the help, but its getting rediculous  for me....
I've done EVERYTHING that NI engineers on the phone and others have said..
in every permutation and combination as well...
I'm pretty sure the problem lies with labview not my code...
I've recoded the "problem" vi code from scratch... it runs fine in development mode..there are no broken arrows anywhere, and no missing block diagrams.
So as far as labview is concerned there shouldn't be a problem....
There must be a fundamental change from LabVIEW 8.5 to the other versions on the way the project gets built because this code works perfect in 8.5, but results in an error in later versions ONLY when Building - NOT WHEN RUNNING in DEVELOPMENT MODE....
Also there cannot possibly be a "conversion" error as some have suggested from earlier LabVIEW versions because I hand coded the "problem" vi from scratch in labview 2010 sp1 in case there was some sort of corruption with the vi the error code mentions.
There are no unused parts of the block diagram or code that does nothing as people have suggested..
(BTW the exact same issue happens in 8.6.1, 2009, and 2011 regardless. I just perfer to work in 2010 because its the last version of Labview that the same version of DAQmx will also work with 8.5)
When I go to make an exe of the project it again complains of the same error.
except this time it says the "grade board v2.vi" is the problem - the one that I rebuilt in LabVIEW 2010sp1
(BTW I do get this same error code 19 times out of 20)
Is there someone that knows exactly what this error refers to?
is there some way that the build process has changed from 8.5?
When I enable debug mode, this doesn't help as the final exe has a broken arrow

  • Restore FAIL with Macbook Air 2009-2010!!!!! Need help!

I bought a Macbook Air 13” from year 2009-2010 (not sure) a few days ago.
I used it for a few days as it came and then decided to restore it to fabric settings. Now it continuously says that it is temporarily unavailable.
    Tried this but didn't work: http://www.tomsguide.com/faq/id-2330386/restore-macbook-air-factory-settings.htm l
^When I log in with my Apple ID the message comes that it is temporarily unavailable.
Hope to get some useful answers as I didn't find it on the other threads I've read. What am I going to do? I'm stuck on the page.

You can download this application which will allow you to disengage the discrete CPU and run the MBP on only the integrated one.
    https://gfx.io/
This should eliminate the kernel panics but at the expense of graphics performance.
    Ciao.

  • Has Apple ever fixed the fan issue that results from upgrading the hard drives on 2009-2010 iMacs?

Has Apple ever fixed the fan issue that results from upgrading the hard drives on 2009-2010 iMacs?
My CPU fan defaults to 3000RPM.  I can rev the fan higher with 3rd party Fan controllers, but no lower than 3K.

OR you can short out the original temp sensor, to make the fans rev at quieter speeds.
You can also install an optical temp sensor in place of the old one, it will still read temps and adjust the fans accordingly, just not as good as an internal sensor.
    Use something like this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-922-9229-Cable-Temp-Sensor-Optical-iMac-27-inch-Late -2009-2010-/111106349896

  • 2009 & 2010 MacPro upgrading for today´s Video-editing (Premiere Pro CS6 & After Effects)

I have now two  MacPro´s: MacPro4,1 (Early 2009/Nehalem) and MacPro5,1 (Early 2010/Nehalem) and I was wondering how to get the best of them for video-editing with Premiere Pro and After Effects (CS6 or later CC) for todays standards.
    The specs of the machines:
    MacPro5,1
    Early 2010 Nehalem
    (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_pro/specs/mac-pro-quad-core-2.8-mid-2010-nehalem -specs.html)
    2.8GHz     Quad-core Xeon W3530 (256k level 2 cache, 8 MB of "fully shared" level 3 cache)
    32GB RAM "1066 MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM" (PC3-8500) modules (4 x 8GB)
ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1 GB of GDDR5 memory is installed in a double-wide, 16-lane PCI Express 2.0 graphics slot.
single 1 TB (7200 RPM, 32 MB cache) Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive.
    + I have added a 480GB SSD-drive via PCIe (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/PCIe/OWC/Mercury_Accelsior/RAID )
The 480GB PCIe SSD-drive is now the boot-drive and gets writes over 500MB/s and reads over 600MB/s testing with "BlackMagic Speed Test"-application. The 480GB SSD-drive that is connected via PCIe-card has also two eSATA ports on it. How could I take advantage of them? Is this just a bottleneck, what would you think. Would I get the same results if I had just Samsung 840 SSD installed with adapter-device to the internal drive bay 2.5" SATAII connections?
    What about the graphic card?
What would you suggest to do for the setup to maximize it´s potential (For now it´s working fine)? Would it be good idea ome 7200rpm hard-drives for media and cache storage or do I need that or can I see significant improvements over it since there is still 3 3,5" internal hard drive bays with SATA II connections (and the two eSATA ports).
    MacPro4,1
    (Early 2009/ Nehalem)
    (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_pro/specs/mac-pro-eight-core-2.66-early-2009-neh alem-specs.html)
    - 8-cores: powered by two2.66 GHz Quad Core 45-nm Xeon X5550 (Nehalem) processors with a dedicated 256k of level 2 cache for each core and 8 MB of "fully shared" level 3 cacheper processor.
    - 34GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM
-NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512 MB of GDDR3
A lot like the MacPro5,1 but does have a bit different graphic cards and more memory and cores.
    Any ideas?

First and foremost: keep an eye on that 480G PCI-E SSD that you dumped a lot of money into.  Those OWC drives aren't known for their robustness or reliability (OWC folks will argue with that statement.  Ignore them).  Since OS and apps are easy to re-install, it may not be a big deal.  But don't put any of your projects on it, even though it's a fairly quick device.
Second, start adding SATA drives to the other 3 bays.  Fill them up with the biggest drives you feel comfortable buying.  Make one of them a 10k RPM drive for your scratch space.  The others can be 7200RPM drives; since you're limited to SATA2, there's not much use in trying to crank serious disk bandwidth through the system.
Video cards.  Get rid of those OEM garbage cards.  Drop them into a chipper/shredder, in fact.  Contact this guy about getting flashed nVidia cards that will work in both Macs, and will help with Pr and Ae.  Dave can sell you a flashed GTX780 that will boot (with grey Apple screen) and run in the Mac just fine.  And it'll outperform anything Apple has ever sold for those Mac Pros.

  • Any updates on the ATI Radeon HD 5870 upgrade kit for Mac Pro 2009/2010?

    So,
while the card is shipping without delay in new BTO Mac Pro units, there still is no sign of the kit posted on on the online store months ago (day/date with current Mac Pro release). To date, the card hasn't shipped (to anyone - no 3rd party store has received it), Apple still shows 'currently unavailable' - without even an 'add to cart' button (like the Quadro 4000); and even AppleCare is in the dark (you'd assume they can send units for replacement. Yet, while they can be setup in the GSX system, there is apparently no 'cost' shipments available even from support).
I suppose not - but does anyone have any more insight into what's going on here? This looks suspiciously like this card is not going to see the light of day as an upgrade kit; for either 2010 or 2009 Mac Pro.....
    Cheers,
    Dan

    Ugh.
That rhymes with what we are seeing.
After about a week of there being an 'order' button for the 5870 (it remained 'currently unavailable' though), the 'add to cart' option has, today, disappeared again. I assume anyone who ordered the card during the window will not see the card, and there seem to have been no purchase confirmations (usually sent within 15 minutes of processing) sent to anyone who ordered.
All this, as well as you report, points to the 5870 being EOL; apparently only a contingent was made for the Mac Pro, and now even AppleCare is running down on inventory for replacements.
That begs the question; once inventory runs out - assuming it does - to even supply the Mac Pro BTO, there has to be some replacement ready; assumingly something with better yield.
BTW - the 5870 cards for the Mac Pro are made by AMD (they are identical to the reference boards), and are stamped as such in Mac Pros. Whatever Apple does with them, they still get them from AMD, not a third party....
And, the Quadro 4000 isn't a good replacement - apart from the cost (which is reasonable for a productivity card) as for non-optimized apps (i.e. users that would usually buy a 5870) it'll likely be much slower due to the low clock and memory speed on the card. And, WOW isn't CUDA aware
    Oh well
    Dan

  • OSX Mountain Lion fails to install on 2009/2010 MacPro

I have a Dual Xeon dual cores MACPro and just got the new OS however it fails to install on the MACPro with the error message  "Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer"
My current OS is 10.7.4, does anyone have any imput on this issue has this been seen by anyone else?
    Any help would be apreciated.

Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
I'm guessing that you have a Mac Pro 1,1 or 2,1 model from 2006/7. They cannot run Mountain Lion.

  • Best GPU options for Mac Pro 2009/2010

hey guys Im Cinema4D and Photoshop user, currently there is stock graphics card (120GT) on my 2009 Mac Pro. Im thinking of upgrading it, because this card doesnt suit my needs. What would be best I could get for my use? Should I stick with something like ATI Radeon HD 5770 or 5870, or should I go beyond that? Also I found a great deal on ATi Firepro V8800 which is PC card. What dissadvantages will be if Ill go with a PC card?

If you really and truly want to know what AMD GPUs are supported in a specific version of OSX, AMD and Apple have been kind enough to let you check.
    S/L/E to the AMD family.
Start with "AMD7000Controller.kext" and right click it.
Show contents leads you to the "info.plist"
Open in an editor, then expand "iokitpersonalities"
    Then "controller"
    Here you will see "IOPCIMatch"
These are the device ids that the 7000 driver works on.
    "0x26001002 0x22001002 0x67901002 0x67981002 0x679A1002 0x679E1002 0x67801002 0x68201002 0x68211002 0x68231002 0x68251002 0x68271002 0x682D1002 0x682F1002 0x68391002 0x683B1002 0x683D1002 0x683F1002 0x68001002 0x68011002 0x68061002 0x68081002 0x68101002 0x68181002"
    "1002" identifies AMD
The other number is the Device ID. Each GPU has a specific one. (except for 7970 and D700 which share one and 7870 and D500 and R7 somethingorother and D300)
Anyhow, looking at the list I know two by heart.
"6798" is the AMD 7970  and "679A" which is the 7950 (underlined and BOLDED)
So, you need to go to the GPU Database at TechPowerup and find the cards you want to know about and look through that list.
Note that being in that list doesn't GUARANTEE that a driver is complete. (The R9 290x is in one of them and it doesn't work) But, on the other hand, if it isn't in any of the driver lists, I can ABSOLUTELY, 100% GUARANTEE that it WON'T work.

  • 2009/2010 iMac Firewire 800 port dead - can anyone help?

My iMac i7 firewire port is dead. I've tried PRAM reset and SMS reset, and clean OS instal. I'm terrified as soemone told me it's connected to logic board and could cost £700 to replace if hardware is faulty. Need firewire port to connect to Pro Tools Digirack 003, have tested it on various other firewire devices and nothing is recognised. Any help would be greatfully appreciated x PS Running Mountain Lion.

Ok, for connecting the camera to the iMac I used a 9-4 pin cable that externally looks like the one you linked in your post and unfortunately I can't test it with other devices.
However, I tried to connect my Iomega MiniMax HDD (1 TB) via FireWire.
The HDD has a 400 FireWire port and I used a cable like this http://www.smelectronics.com/images2/FIREWIRE96.jpg to connect it to the FireWire 800 of the iMac.
Again Snow Leopard can't see the external device.
