Downgrade back to OS X 10.7.5?
I recently upgraded My 2012 MacBook Pro to Yosemite, and I have to say it is just awful. While the upgrade process itself was fine, ever since the upgrade:
It's slow to start and much slower to shut down
The battery life is 30-40% less than with 10.7.5
Regularly locks up (pinwheel) in browser sessions - Safari, Chrome, Firefox, doesn't matter which browser
Less frequently locks up in apps like Evernote, iCal, Mail, etc.
Bottom line is this MacBook Pro is no longer a usable laptop, and I want to go back to 10.7.5. Is this possible?

Did the Time Machine backup and tried Safe Mode as you recommended. Thought I had made some progress - deleted Chrome and McAfee End Point Encryption and my Mac Book Pro was still slow but seemed more stable. Then, same symptoms returned. So, downloaded & installed EtreCheck & the diagnostic report follows. Per your instructions, I haven't taken any actions based on this report - for example I have not (yet) removed VirtualBox.
Thanks for any further ideas you might have, based on this report.

Is there any way to downgrade back to ios6 from the new ios7? I made a major mistake in downloading the new operating system. It is a major disappointment, particularly visually, and would love to get back to the more user friendly ios6 on my iPad. Last time I experienced a similar disappointment was when I tested the new Microsoft 8. In that case I was luckily able to stick to the previous operating system.

Need help in the process of trying to downgrade back to iPhoto '09...
I want to see all the exif info for my photos as I am getting into DSLR photography. This is one of the reasons I am trying to downgrade back to iPhoto '09 from '11 amongst other reasons; one being I just preferred it (and I have been using '11 since January and still want to downgrade). Anyway, this is what I have done so far:
Reinstalled iPhoto '09 from an old time machine backup in December '13 from before I upgraded late December. Then with the help of a youtube video I found I created a new iPhoto Library for '09 and was in the process of importing all my pics when 3/4 of the way through, my hard drive reached capacity and the importing quit. When I go into iPhoto '09 now, there are no pics. So I spent yesterday buying a large external hard drive and the past 18 or so hours formatting it for mac and moving files so now I have a bit more room on my internal 1tb hard drive.
So I am guessing I should next go to the newly created iPhoto library on my internal hard drive and delete all (not to mention this will free up more room on it). Then what I want to do is create a new library for iPhoto '09 on my new 3TB external hard drive and then import all the pics there. Can I create the iPhoto Library on an external drive?
If I am able to do the above and import all my pics and iPhoto '09 seems to be working properly, can I then go in and delete the iPhoto '11 app without causing problems? Am I right to believe that all my pictures, even the ones I imported to iPhoto '11 directly from a mail attachment, will not be deleted if I delete the iPhoto '11 app?

Downgrading a library to an earlier version of iPhoto
If you have a library from a newer version of iPhoto that you simply want "downgrade" to an older version of iPhoto, the easiest way to do that is with the "Rebuild Library" command. You will want to be running iPhoto Library Manager on the machine that has the older version of iPhoto you want to convert the library to. This will create a new library and import the entire contents of the original library into the new one using the older version of iPhoto. As with any rebuild, there are some items that will not be included (most notably, hidden photos, books, calendars, and slideshows), but if you have none of these items or don't mind losing them in the downgrading process, then this is a decent option for converting a library to an older version.

You would reinstall 10.6 using your installation DVD.
Out of curiosity, how much RAM do you have? Recent versions of OS X really shine with 4GB or more.

Problem after downgrading back to ITv.6....missing music during iPod synch?
I recently happily downgraded back to iTunes v.6 after experiencing a nightmare with iTunes v.7. Since re-installing v.6, everything is fine except for one strange and annoying problem. I'm hoping someone can help, so here goes....
Now, when I synch/update my iPod as I had always done (not automatically, but with selective playlists checked), about 400 of 1700 songs do not transfer from my G4 to the iPod. However, when I switch to update with the automatic option to include all playlists, all 1700 songs transfer over to the iPod. I believe I've narrowed this problem down to one particular playlist which may not be getting recognized by the iTunes library. In other words, I want this one playlist to appear in iTunes, but not on my iPod. But, if I try to update with this one playlist unchecked, 400 songs do not transfer over. This seems odd since all music files (mp3s) from all playlists are located in the iTunes music folder on my hard drive.
So, my question is....how can I go back to updating my iPod to include all of the 1700 songs in my library, but without the one particular playlist (which is quite large)? As was the case before the iTunes v.7 debacle, is there a simple way to get my library to recognize the particular playlist so I can update my iPod selectively without putting that playlist on my iPod? I've tried to do some online research before bothering the wise people on this Board and it would seem that I either need to: 1) somehow import that particular playlist back into my iTunes library or 2) create a new iPod library file which I understand may cause me to lose my playlists and comments. I'm afraid to do either without some guidance, for fear of making the situation worse. I'm not very technical and I'm guessing there's a simple fix for this, so I'd sincerely appreciate any help and advice. Thanks very much.Here's the log:

Ive tried i don't know how many times to put my iPod 3g 32 gb touch from 3.1.3 back to 3.1.2 by downgrading it... Basiclly it is supposed to work with a iwps something to downgrade and only works in dfu mode. So i did that and it still won't accept it. Stuck with 3.1.3 need to go to 3.1.2 and even everyone says that in dfu mode it accepts any firmware to downgrade but nothing...
Is there any way to downgrade back 3.1.2 and that it actually works...Pretty lame because the new version music app doesn't allow advancing through podcasts.

How do I downgrade back to Lion and get a refund?
Purchased Mountain Lion yesterday to try and use the latest newest features. I do not own any iOS devices (prefer Android over iOS) so several of the updates do not even apply to me (such as iCloud).
Notifications does not work in all my apps (however Growl still works with almost all of them)
Messages is just as bad as Messages Beta for Lion was so I still am using Adium
Airport Mirroring is lagged so I can't use it as a second monitor (still have to run a long HDMI cable accross the livingroom)
Safari updates don't matter as I feel Safari is good for one thing, downloading Chrome.
I do not use ANY of the features of the new Mountain Lion. I would like to downgrade back to Lion and get a refund. Is there a way to do this?killhippie wrote:

Just an FYI.... After Mountain Lion is installed, the Recovery HD is updated to Recovery HD-10.8. This means if I want to reinstall OS X from the Recovery HD, I will be reinstalling Mountain Lion not Lion. I would need to have the Lion Recovery HD on a USB thumb drive, use Internet Recovery (Lion pre-installed systems) or some other means to be able to reinstall Lion. -
Just updated to 8 & now I can not open any web pages as well as firefox will not close out, it still running in the background after browser was closed. I uninstalled and reinstalled as well as disabled add-ons and plugins nothing has changed, can I downgrade back to on older version?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

At advice of Spriint tech support, I upgraded my new BB 3 G to the 6.0 os and am not happy. I was running my old BB on 5.0 I lost contacts in the transition, cannot delet any messages from email on the new machine and have spent 6 hours with support ato no avail. Does anyone know how to downgrade back to 5.o. I have a Mac. thanks
Well, I really don't know the MAC software at all...we have a whole forum dedicated just to that. It is my understanding that the MAC software offers whatever your carrier supports, and only what they support. From the official download portal, Sprint goes all the way back to 5.0.0.913. Unfortunately, those download packages are only usable on PC, not on MAC. I suggest you perhaps ask folks in the MAC forum for thoughts and ideas:

in ios6, youtube cannot be played in the background unlike in the ios5. Is there a way round this ? And also is it possible to downgrade back to ios 5.1??
You cannot downgrade your software. The only way you can downgrade your software is by jailbreaking your device (which can be risky if you dont know what your doing). Remember if you are downgrading by jailbreaking it will void your warranty with Apple - and you could run the risk of disabling your device.
However, im not too sure about the YouTube problem, my only guess is that since it is not an original app that comes with the iOS software. -
I was given an option to upgrade to Firefox 4, so I did. Ever since I have done this, Facebook is taking a very long time to load. All FB apps either take a few minutes to load or just dont load. I have tried to watch Youtube and the videos are taking longer to view. I have tried to watch videos and they keep skipping. I have tried to reload the page, restart my computer and even upgrade flash but I already have the updated version. I need to know if their is any way to downgrade back the the Fairfox version that I had.
Upgraded to Firefox4 too. Suddenly I started to notice that browsing pages in my webbrowser qaws horrible laggy and I was seriously wondering if my connection was acting up, yet everything non-browser related was working just fine.
I can't even watch music videos on youtube now, as it will only load up to a 3rd of the song and then just stop loading anything more untill I click on the bar on a spot it hasn't loaded, and then it will start from there untill it gets to a 'block' again.
In other words: totally unusable for me.
I tried uninstalling firefox4 and going back to the 3.6.17 version, but now the issues haunt me in that versino too. It's like firefox4 sunk its teeth into my system once, and then older versions won't work proper either :(
Seriously considering just getting a different browser to be able to actually BROWSE the web again >:( -
I'll admit, I am not a fan of the redesign UI for version 12. Especially the Get Info screen. I meticulously tag and organize my tracks, and the recent upgrade has made the way I manage my music a million times more cumbersome. I cannot begin to explain how annoying it is to see the Composer field and Grouping field shifted in position. Or that they show auto populated drop down lists--that will be auto selected if my cursor happens to be too close. Or that the genre field is so annoying to traverse now. Nothing about any of this seems intuitive at all (to me, at least). Frankly, in the past two days I've used 12, I've been nothing but frustrated.
Is there an easy way to downgrade back to 11? A way that would allow me to keep my playlists and metadata (date added, play counts, checked vrs unchecked track, etc) in tact? I've been trying to research the topic for the better part of an hour now and all I've been seeing is vague or misleading information. I've gathered that exporting a library.xml file will keep a list of songs and playlist for the library, but doesn't actually keep the metadata. And I've read that the itunes.itl file stores the metadata (amongst other things) but copying and moving that file only works if the receiving itunes is the same version it was taken from.Okay, think I figured it out. I used the information from here. Step 1 says to Export the Library, however in addition to this I copied all the ".itl" files located in the iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries sub directory (including the iTunes Library.itl on the off chance things went belly up so I could restore to vers 12.)
Between Step 7 and 8, before I opened the newly reinstalled vers 11, I went back to the iTunes folder and cut the iTunes Library.itl file and pasted it to my desktop if I needed access to it again. I then went to the files I copied from the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and copied the file marked with the most recent release date. I then pasted it into the iTunes folder that I just cut that previous file from. I then renamed the newly pasted file to simply "iTunes Library."
I then launched iTunes 11, and it had all my library intact including metadata and playlists. I honestly didn't think the playlists would end up salvageable, so I didn't end up needing the Exported Library from step 1. However, probably best to err on the caution side and save both the Exported Library and the itl files.
