  • 9iAS for Sun Solaris Intel?

Will 9iAS be available for Sun Solaris Intel?
    Thanks,
    Shane

    Shane,
Due to bandwidth/space limitations, there are no plans at this time to put the Intel Solaris version of 9iAS onto OTN.
That said, the Intel Solaris version of 9i AS will be available through the following channels:
    1) Ordering directly from the oracle store at store.oracle.com, or via your local Oracle representative.
    2) If you have a previous version of iAS for intel solaris (with a support contract), you could request an upgrade via Oracle Worldwide support, and they will send you the software.
    Best Regards,
    Harry

I want to know that if oracle for sun solaris 8 (intel platform) is available and anyone has installed it. On OTN only oracle for sun solaris (For SPARC ) is available for download.
if anyone know it for solaris 8 (intel platform) then please tell me where to get it from.

    - Server name ORACLE 9I DATABASE
    - Filename
    - Date/Time 5 JULY 2K2
    - Browser + Version IE 6
    - O/S + Version SUN SOLARIS
    - Error Msg

I didn't see anything on the Sun site, but the disk arrived with my Solaris media. I have installed it on one machine (you need to create the "oracle" user id, the "dba" group, and you must set the tunable parameters for shared memory to install the software and example database.)
I tried to install a second machine and the Oracle installer terminates half way through without errors. I'm still working that issue.

  • Download Oracle8i For HP Unix

    Hi,

If this is for legitimate purposes (other than demonstrating how Oracle worked in the Stone Age), and you have a support contract, you can submit a SR and order the CD.

  • Oracle8i for Linux Release announcement

I received a copy of this Oracle marketing announcement today:
The Linux tidal wave continues and Oracle is right at the
    forefront. We have
been experiencing tremendous demand on Linux since Oracle8 was
    announced for
that platform last October. Over 50,000 developers have
    downloaded Oracle8
for Linux from Oracle Technology Network (OTN) since March, with
    the first
20,000 coming in just the first 10 days! We now have over 800
    paying
customers with over half the orders coming from enterprise
    accounts and most
of the remainder orders from mid-sized businesses.
This week Oracle is announcing the shipping of Oracle8i for
    Linux. Already,
20,000 developers have registered for early access. With new
    internet
technologies like Java and XML built right into Oracle8i for
    Linux, this
release promises to be the hottest yet.
Read on for more information about:
    - What are we announcing?
    - What are the key messages?
    - What is the pricing for Oracle8i on Linux?
    - Why does Oracle care about Linux?
    - Who are Oracle's major Linux Partners?
    - Which products are available on Linux?
    - Who is driving the Oracle on Linux effort and what are we
    doing?
    - Where to find more information about Oracle on Linux?
    What are we announcing?
Oracle is announcing today that it has been receiving extremely
    strong demand
for its Linux based products over the past quarter and is also
    shipping
    Oracle8i for Linux to manufacturing.
    What are the key messages?
Linux represents the ultimate commodity operating system -- its
    fast, reliable
and almost free! Businesses can now spend their time focusing on
    the higher
value software they buy to run their businesses (such as
    databases and applications).
With over 800 customers paying for Oracle on Linux, Linux is
    progressing from
its roots as a student and developer operating system to a viable
    deployment
    environment in large business.
Oracle has the best database on Linux. With over 50,000 people
    using Oracle8
and over 20,000 people registered through Oracle Technology
    Network (OTN) for
Oracle8i, Oracle is the overwhelming choice for the Linux
    operating system.
What is the pricing for Oracle8i on Linux?
Pricing of Oracle8i on Linux follows the standard Oracle price
    list (see
http://appsweb.us.oracle.com/amapp/). Linux may be a freeware
    operating
system, but Oracle on Linux is not free. Oracle does offer
    developer licenses
through Oracle Technology Network (OTN) which allows developers
    to use Oracle
    software for non-commercial use.
Why does Oracle care about Linux?
Linux is hot! It is rapidly becoming the preferred platform for
    small ISP's
and is used extensively by many of the internet's largest portal
    sites. For
Oracle, Linux is the fastest growing operating system, growing at
    three times
that of WindowsNT. Oracle on Linux presents customers a viable
    low-cost, yet
highly stable alternative to WindowsNT. That said, with 46% of
    the NT market,
Oracle is also the best selling database on NT!
Oracle now has over 800 customers on Linux. This statistic alone
    strongly
contradicts the common perception that Linux is solely used by
    students and
developers. Linux has already established a foothold in many
    Fortune 100
companies and although deployments are still currently small
    compared to NT
and Solaris, they are accelerating rapidly.
Which products are available on Linux?
    Currently available on Linux are:
    - Oracle8.0.5 Standard and Enterprise Edition
    - Oracle8i Release 8.1.5
    - Oracle Application Server 4.0.7 (40 Bit)
    - Oracle Application Server 3.0.2 (40 Bit)
    - Oracle WebDB 2.0.5.6.1
Who are Oracle's major Linux Partners?
Redhat Software - Linux distributors. Oracle has also made an
    equity
    investment in RedHat. (http://www.redhat.com)
Caldera System - Linux distributors. Novell spin-off, focus
    primarily on
    enterprise customers. (http://www.caldera.com)
Turbolinux - Linux distributor. Has a mostly Asia presence.
VA Linux Systems - Hardware vendor, making Linux systems.
Linuxcare - Linux support provider. (http://www.linuxcare.com)
Who is driving the Oracle on Linux effort?
There are two teams within Oracle working closely to drive the
    Oracle strategy
and goals on Linux: Internet Platform Marketing and the Linux SBU
    (Strategic
    Business Unit).

    Linux," says
Jonathan August, President and CEO of Internection, Inc., a
    company providing
customized Internet services solutions to businesses, including
    web hosting

of Oracle on Linux has increased by 250%."
"Oracle on Linux combines enterprise level reliability,

performance with a free, robust and well-supported operating
    system," says
Nick Marden, technical director of e-commerce, Xoom.com, and
    e-commerce
service provider. "It enables Xoom.com to better understand our
    members'
needs and respond to them quickly. Oracle on Linux represents an
extraordinary value and it gets the job done."
"Oracle is committed to bringing superior technology to the Linux
    community,"
says Chuck Rozwat, senior vice president of Server Technologies
    at Oracle.
"Oracle8i on Linux comes with both Java and XML built right in.
    Together they
offer the most cost-effective way to deploy scalable Internet
    applications."
Oracle8i is the first and only database specifically designed for
    the

    warehousing to

Yeah, I got a couple of those....but if you go to Oracle, there
is nothing about it, and nothing new on the OTN download...

  • Oracle8 for Linux

If i don't want to waste the huge amount of time in downloading
Oracle8 for Linux, what others way i could get it ? (could i buy
    one?)
    null

Oracle8 for Linux is only available on Intel, however,
it is heavily rumoured that an Alpha port will be made
available this or next quarter. This rumour was reported
    at: http://www.alphalinux.org/
If you are running Digital Unix on it, then it would have
nothing to do with Linux. You would have to buy Oracle8
for Digital Unix (I believe only available in Enterprise
Edition). You could, however, replace Digital Unix with
Linux, and then install Oracle8 for Linux/Alpha, if it is
indeed released. Personally, I think DEC Unix is still one
of the most advanced server OS' out there, and if you've
already paid for it, then use it. But it would definitely
be cheaper to use Linux & O8 (workgroup edition), than O8
(enterprise edition) on DEC Unix (which generally starts
at around US$15,000 w/support), if you don't actually need
the enterprise features. Of course, this also assumes that
    your Alpha is Linux-compatible.

I'm sure that Oracle8i server supports Solaris Intel Platform and Oracle9i doesn't support Solaris Intel Platform at this moment as I know.

I am trying to make the 'hsdcgi65' file for Sun Solaris Intel without success. The make file is for solaris (SPARC).
Modifying the make file does not do any good and while compiling, I am getting the error "hsdcgi65.o wrong machine type".

    Louis,
Your best bet is to just make a static HTML launch document for your application rather than using the cgi launch
environment. You can create a static launch document by using the generic Application Launchform on your
(windows) development platform to launch your application start form. Right-click on the browser window and
select View Source. Copy and paste this code to make a static HTML launch document.

I need to download Oracle 8i Release 2 (8.1.6) for Solaris (Intel) but haven't found it in the web page.
Does someone knows where to get it.
    Thanks.

This download is not available on the OTN site. We recommend that if you live within the United States or Canada to check with the Oracle Store for product availability:http://otn.oracle.com/software/store/discount.html

I believe this is the plan. However, there is a bunch of work yet to do before
this can be qualified and supported. Stay tuned.

Solaris 8 download for Intel has not been available for 3 months, only SPARC, so I'm not sure what you are downloading. You can purchase the media kit from:

  • When I begin to attempt to download the windows support software in boot camp, it says the windows support software is unavailable. Is there any other place I can download it for a Macbook Pro 5,5 intel core 2 duo without the original CD?

When I begin to attempt to download the windows support software in boot camp, it says the windows support software is unavailable. Is there any other place I can download it for a Macbook Pro 5,5 intel core 2 duo with snow leopard without the original CD?

    Hi,
apart from the MacBook Air this feature is of no use for other Macs right now.
Simply ingnore it (click "I already have the Drivers...) and continue with the installation.
Sorry to say but you need the OSX Install DVD for the BootCamp Driver installation.
The 3.0 version of the BootCamp Drivers is only avaiable on the disc.
Later updates (3.1 and 3.2) can be downloaded from Apples Support website.
Call Apple and ask for a replacement and they usually send you one for a small fee.
And have the Serial-Number of your Mac at hand when calling.
And since the OSX Install DVD can also be vital for maintenance and repair it is best to have one.
The needed BootCamp Drivers are on the OSX Install DVD 1 that came with your Mac.
Insert that disc while in Windows after the Windows installation to install the drivers.
    Regards
    Stefan
