Download tool part of iso files?

I have a 2 year old 640 gig dv7 laptop and I received the imminent "hard disk failure" message. So, I backed up the hard drive (8 dvds) and made recovery disks (6 dvds). I bought a new Seagate hard drive of 500 gigs and installed it. I then started the recovery process.
I then received a message that said my new hard disk was smaller than the original and to not continue. I did try four different installs with no success, getting a blank screen except for the hp logo on the center of the screen and a press esc for menu.
I have read the advice of trying the iso file download via either dvd or usb. My question is: the directions talk about using the w7 dvd/usb download tool. Is this download tool part of the iso files? How do I get it onto my computer first? I know it's probably simple, but it would be nice for me to get that clarified before doing the downloads.
Thx.

Hi,
As the error you're encountering is just due to the fact that Recovery Discs will not install correctly on a drive smaller than the one they were created on, I would just burn the correct ISO to a blank DVD and use this to perform the installation - there's no need to create a bootable USB drive unless you have a problem with the optical drive on your notebook.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create an installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the exact same version that originally came with your notebook ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source, however there are only limited versions available.
Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

Any additional drivers and software you may need can be found by entering your full Model No. or Product No. Here.

  • Downloading Iso Files (Programmes) and Using them

    Hello,
    I need some help please,
I have downloaded some Iso files which are intended to be programmes, I can burn them to a CD with no problem using disc utility.
However, they do not play as intended, When clicking on the cd icon mounted on the desktop, it just displays the contents of the CD and does not launch the programme.
    What should I do?
    Kind regards

No. An .iso is a raw disc image, not a programme. It may, however, contain programmes, just like the disc it images.
    Ne0the1 wrote:
I thought an ISO was just a disc image
    Correct.
    Ne0the1 wrote:
once the contents were burnt to a disc they would play as intended
Correct, as long as the file system is compatible. Moreover, it's not necessary to burn an .iso file to CD. It can be mounted under Mac OS X as virtual disc, using DiskImageMounter (which is the default), again, as long as the file system is recognised by the operating system.
    Shootist007 wrote:
ISO files are for Windows and will not run on any Mac running just OS X.
Incorrect; .iso disc images can be mounted under Mac OS X without any additional software. The application DiskImageMounter is part of the Mac OS X core services. Moreover, .iso images can be created and manipulated with hdiutil, Mac OS X's disk image utility. From its manpage:
Raw disk images from other operating systems (e.g. .iso files) will be recognized as disk images and can be attached and mounted if OS X recognizes the filesystems.
    Shootist007 wrote:
All Mac programs are compressed as DMG files.
Incorrect. Mac OS X programmes may be distributed in a variety of formats. A .dmg (Mac disk image, which may or may not be compressed) is one of them. They can also be distributed in various archive formats, such as zip, gz, tar, sit (obsolescent), and, of course, pkg (based on xar), which is used mostly by Apple.
    Shootist007 wrote:
to my knowledge OS X can not create ISO files
    Incorrect. See above.
    eww wrote:

    Correct.
    2. AutoRun
    Ne0the1 wrote:

You're thinking in terms of Windows and AutoRun. This does not exist under Mac OS X, because it's a significant security risk (in fact, it's being restricted under recent versions of Windows). There are some automatic actions (configurable in System Preferences > CDs & DVDs) which can be performed by the system, but no equivalent of AutoRun.
If you want to run software on the CD or disc image, you need to interact with it (eg, double-click) yourself. If the CD was intended to run software automatically, then it must have been designed for Windows, not Mac OS X. If you require more information, you need to give us details about the contents of the respective CD.

  • How Can I download a Windows 8.1 ISO file to my MacBook Pro for a VMWare Installation?

I am attempting to install Windows 8.0 into a virtual machine with VMWare Fusion 6.02.  I've got XP running on an older MacPro so with VMWare so I'm somewhat familiar with how this works but by no means an expert.  Foolishly I purchased a license for Windows 8.1 without doing any research on how to get the ISO file.  I can download the .exe file to my MacBook Pro no problem but need to have the .iso file on external media in order to install using VMWare which is pretty straightforward (usually).
Can anyone help me with where I can download a full and legal copy of windows 8.1 in .iso format for a full, fresh, clean installation using VMWare Fusion 6.02?

  • I am trying to reinstall Windows on my macbook pro.  I downloaded the support files and Windows 7 iso file to a USB drive.  However, when I try to run the setup.exe program I get the message "this program cannot be run in DOS mode."

I am trying to reinstall Windows (would not launch).  I removed the partition and started over.  I downloaded the support files and Windows 7 iso file to a USB drive.  However, when I try to run the setup.exe program I get the message "this program cannot be run in DOS mode."  I was successful before, what am I doing wrong this time?

    Try a restart.
If that doesn't fix the problem, shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • How to not append '.PART' to the file name of the currently downloading file, and just download the file with its normal filename

In Windows, when Firefox (I'm currently using 7.0) downloads a file, it appends ''.PART'' to the file name of the currently downloading file and just renames it to its original file name after it finishes downloading.
I sometimes like to watch a currently downloading video file, so it will be better if Firefox just downloads the file to its actual filename (like what Opera does), so I can easily double click the incompletely downloaded file and watch it with the video player assigned to that file extension, rather than the awkward ''Right click -> Open With -> Choose Default Program'' route with .part files.
Does anyone know how to set Firefox to do this?

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox and prevents Firefox from renaming the .part file.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
See "Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows"

I cannot open this file because it can't find an application.
If I back out the .part, I get a box asking if I want to change the extension to .pdf I check yes, and everything works fine. It doesn't happen with other browsers (Safai).

  • Why was the downloaded ISO file truncated?

    Hi,
I've been trying to download the windows server 2012 r2 ISO file but every time i got a truncated ISO. In other words, the size of the downloaded ISO is less than the actual size in MSDN download site. This introduced a problem installing windows server
2012 r2 on a VMware workstation. When i contacted VMware support about this, they confirmed that the issue is related to the truncated download. I am not behind a proxy and i am directly connected to my ADSL router.
    Please help.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your post.
I could download the iso file without issue.
Which IE version did you used? Did you refer to this MS article?
You cannot download files that are 2 GB or larger
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/298618?wa=wsignin1.0
Meanwhile, I think the issue is more related to IE not windows server, right?  If yes, I could suggest you ask in IE forums:

  • Cannot download the Exchange Server 2013 SP1 ISO file from Microsoft Website.

    Hello Guys,
I cannot download the Exchange 2013 or Exch 2013 SP1 ISO file from the Microsoft Website.
Before downloading i have register on the Site.
Purpose of downloading the ISO is to upgrade the Active Directory Schema before installing exch server.
We get .exe file instead of ISO.
I am searching it for 2 days now no help.
    Suggestion and recommendations highly appreciated.

    Hi David,
    Thanks for the reply...
If we extract .exe file we get .data , .rsrc , .text , .Certificate files by which we cannot upgrade the schema.
As CU7 is available could you please share the link.
So now schema can be update at the time of post installation.
    Thanks...!!

    Hi Larry,
In TechNet Evaluation Center website, here is the progress counter:
Before download, you may need specify the downloaded file location:
For your issue, if everything goes well, you can search the downloaded file name in your computer, if you don’t rename the file name, try this one:
