    What is your operating system?
What exactly means "unable"?  Are these local or online documents?  If online, in what browser?

  • Even though I uninstalled Adobe Reader and Adobe Flash Player, I still cannot open PDF files.

Even though I uninstalled Adobe Reader & Adobe Flash Player and reinstalled the latest versions, I still cannot open PDF files.  They always try to open in Word 2010.

This is a Windows setting. In Windows 7 you can change it through the Control Panel: Either Start>Default Programs  or Start>Control Panel>Programs>Default Programs>Set Associations
Find .pdf and change it (click Change Program) from Microsoft Word to Adobe Reader. Browse to find the Reader application if necessary: Program Files>Adobe>Reader11>Reader>AcroRd.exe

    Hi kevinv1987,
It doesn't sound like the PDF was password protected (or Adobe Reader would prompt you for a password). Instead, it sounds like that file may be marked locked by your operating system. Are you on Mac OS or Windows? In either case, here are instructions for removing the lock icon from the file:
Remove the Lock Icon from a Folder in Windows 7 (check Microsoft's website if you have a different version of Windows)
On Mac OS, select the file in the Finder, and choose File > Get Info. Then, just deselect the Lock checkbox.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,

  • Downloaded Adobe Reader, now can't open PDFs in Safari

I was forced to download Adobe Reader to view and print something and then promptly deleted it. The app, the dmg, and the AdobePDFViewer.plugin from my library are now all gone. Nothing remains of them on my computer. Now, ever since that download, I get the screen below when I try to view a pdf in Safari.
I have searched all over the net, like I always do before bugging all of you, but still can't fix it.
    1- I can't read it
2-What do I have to do to get pdfs to open in Safari like they did before I installed Reader?
Spec (Exact same as before Reader download):
    Safari 6.1.1
    OSX 10.8.5
    Thank you!

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • After downloading Adobe Reader, my daughter cannot open her homework assignments on her school website?

After downloading Adobe Reader on our MacBook, my daughter can no longer open her homework assignments at her school website. When you click on the assignment it does not open. Everything else works on the computer. I deleted Adobe Reader and it still will not work. Did Adobe Reader delete something or replace something that I need to download again? Thanks, Carl

    Try this -
In the Finder's Go menu select Go to Folder.
Type in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and click Go.
In the resulting Finder window look for anything with PDF or pdf in the name and drag it to the trash.
    Restart the computer.
    Now try viewing the documents.

  • Adobe Reader XI - Can't open PDF files

My mother has Adobe Reader XI installed on her laptop and still can't open PDF files. We've tried uninstalling and installing several different versions and nothing seems to work. Can someone please help? Thank you.

It's when she tries to open things that she gets online - like credit card statements, etc. It's also stuff that she gets emailed to her as a PDF attachment. It'll look like the document is going to open, but then she gets the following error message in a pop-up window:
There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try. (103:103).

  • Adobe Reader 10 problem with opening pdf files

Ever since I downloaded and installed Adobe Reader 10, I have been unable to open .pdf files from the Internet.  When
I try to download them, I only the get the option of saving the file, not opening it.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

We had similar problems with both the upgrade to 9.4.2 and 10.0.1. We would either get the download/save screen or a black screen would appear and eventually error out and freeze up the machine when we tried to hit pages that loaded pdfs stored in Oracle.  We found the pdfs would load when using Chrome or Firefox.
We're running winXP SP3 and mainly have users using IE 7 and IE 8.  We were eventually able to solve the problem by doing the following:
Implementing the code fix outlined in this thread (Response.charset = null;) in the page that pulled pdfs from Oracle: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3476821
Uninstalling and reinstalling the base version of Reader (9.4.0 or X.0) from users' machines that had gone through the update from 9.x to X.x
Rebooting the machine after each uninstall or install
Updating the Reader to either 9.4.2 or 10.0.1
Now we have users who can successfully load the pdfs from Oracle who are running either 9.4.2 or 10.0.1.
    Hope this helps!

  • I cannot open PDF files in IPad email attachments.

Will I pad open PDF files? I get nothing when clicking on the document, but have read the iPad 2 will open PDFs without a 3rd party app. Please help.

If they don't have digital rights management on them then you should be able to open them. If they are large PDFs you may have to wait a little while for them to finish downloading.
If they still don't open then you could try closing the Mail app completely and then re-open and see if you can then open them : from the home screen (i.e. not with Mail 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Another option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

i just paid for 12 months to be able to read pdf files and it is not working. how do i get my money back or get this problem fixed.  i am so tired of trying to see pdf files.Adobe ExportPDF (read only)

I thought I ordered Adobe Reader.  Had information from your company that I was charged $13.00 and some change, I think that was the amount, after I completed my credit card information.  Can’t find it – guess it wasn’t an email.  Anyway, I will order whatever I have to in order to be able to open the pdf files as I need to see them for my work with the government.  What do I need to do?  I need it today.  And what is the cost for export pdf?

I had Adobe Reader 9 and when I tried to open a PDF file or just the program it would open for a few secopnds and then the window closes.  The program doesn't stay open.  I installed Adobe Reader XI but got the same results.  The program window opens for a few seconds and then closes before the PDF file is open.  What should I do to?

    Go to: C/Program Files/Adobe/Reader 11/Reader
Look for a file named eula.exe (or just eula)
    Double click it
    Accept the license agreement
    Run Adobe Reader.
