Downloaded files are deleted automaticaly after completion

Every time I download files, they are deleted automatically, except for PDF files, after completion. I have tried e-mail attachments, utility downloads, patches, drivers, etc. with no luck. Help!

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
See "Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows"

I'm (let's say over 50) and have worked with PCs for 30 years, and bigger computers for some years before that.  No hassles here.  But I'm a computer engineer.
It's kind of like that scene with the satellite phone in Jurassic Park II when they first get to the island...  "You've gotta love it for it to work."  "I'll love it when it works."

  • Will my mac run correctly if all downloaded files are deleted?

I want to delete all my downloaded files from the download folder. If I do this, will I delete files the computer needs to run?  Thanks.

None of the files downloaded are vital to your system running. However if they are files you want to keep then spend a little time organizing. For example if it's an .app then move it to the Applications folder.

Yes, in theory re-converting would lessen the quality further. However, I have heard people claim (unsubstantiated) that if you are encoding with the same encoder at the same bit rate, then since it will use the same algorthymn, it won't really change the file. I have absolutely no idea if that is true or not.
But... I figure some slight loss in quality re-encoding is still better quality than a song that only plays half way and then stops, right? I suppose you could always tag those files in the comment section with something like "Re-Encoded" and then later if you gain access to your old CDs, you can then make a Smart Playlist to gather those songs and then re-rip them again from your CDs.
    Cheers,

on Windows, you can not delete open file.
on *NIX, the directory entry will be removed, but Oracle will continue to hold the file open & use it!
disk space will be reclaimed by the OS after final process closes the file. And then (on *nix) the fun will begin the next time they try to start the db!   ;-)

  • Ipod touch 4's files are deleted whenever i add a new file into it through itunes (the files i have on my ipod touch aren't in my itunes before hand) and i don't know what to do to keep these files from being erased. PLEASE HELP :(

my ipod touch 4th generation has files that i didnt back up because i didnt know i was supposed to. the when i tried to add one new file to my EMPTY itunes, all files are deleted, yes because i know i didnt back the files up and the files on my ipod arent in my itunes. so i cancelled adding the new file and all files
are back again, like i didnt press the sync button when it showed the deletion. what am i supposed to do about this? i dont want my ipod files to be deleted, i just wanna add new files freely without losing any of my old files. please help.

You want to transfer purchases from the iPod to your iTunes account.
Connect the device to iTunes but do not sync.
    Select File > Transfer Purchases.
This will copy the content purchased via iTunes on the iPod to your iTunes account.

Why does iTunes freeze up for minutes at a time when modifying INFO (CMD-i) ?  My files are not corrupted after it is done like many other threads i have readed.  Sometimes it's changing the title of a movie or editing the season and episode number of a TV show ect.....

    Yup same here
I am running the latest iTunes, the latest updates to the OS and on an iMac 3.4GHz Quad core i7 with 8GB of RAM and the music stored on local HDD.
Still locks up iTunes for between 2 minutes up to 20 minutes.
    Really annoying.

  • Local Files are deleted upon disconnecting from project

Running Version Cue CS3 3.1.0 with latest Bridge. (PowerMac G5 - OSX 10.4.11)
Im running the VC server on my local machine. Intention is for only myself to use it for version control.
I created a project, added my files... the standard local file path is ~/Documents/Version Cue/projectname
2 issues, perhaps the same issue
whenever i attempt to disconnect from the project... the local files are deleted...
so, if i had set a custom path for my projects local files, VC immediately deletes the files, and next time trying to connect, the local file path is reset to the ~/Documents/Version Cue/projectname
Is this how VC is supposed to function?
Any help or insight is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you in advance

  • If data files are deleted?

If data files are deleted, can they be recovered from the control file?

It depends on what is in the datafiles in the tablespaces, if they actually contain data, if they are the only datafiles for the tablespace, etc.
Let's assume that they are the only datafiles for the tablespace and segments have allocated and used space in them.
If the segments are index segments, you can recreate the indexes from the data that currently exists in the table.
If the segments are table segments, you will need to recreate the data either by hand or extracting it from another source.
If no segment has allocated space in the datafile, you should be able to offline the datafile. If this works, it is a good idea to migrate the segments to a new tablespace and then drop the tablespace (unless it is SYSTEM) as Oracle does not like offline datafiles and it will become a maintenance hassle.
If you do not have a backup, do you have a recent export?
Once you have addressed the immediate issues of reconstructing the data, you need to address the issues of backups (you should at least backup the database periodically even if you don't run in archivelog mode) and security (no one should be dropping live data files).

  • Can I reimport originals after data files are deleted?

While selecting photos to burn to a cd I copied folders from the 'Data' folder in iPhoto library. I then moved several individual files, which I did not require for the burn, from the cd to trash - before I had burned. I did not realise that this would delete the data files from the iPhoto library itself. I emptied trash before checking back with iPhoto and now, of course, those images disappear from my library whenever I open iPhoto. However, I still have the photos saved in two locations as 'Originals', but when I try to import them back into iPhoto a message appears to tell me they are unreadable. The 'Originals' files are not corrupted, but how do I reimport them into iPhoto so that they reappear in my Library Data folder in their old locations?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You do know that the Data folder only contains thumbnail sized files that iPhoto uses within the library, right?
If you can see the blank thumbnail boxes in the library and can click on them to bring up the full sized image you have a good chance at recovering the library by rebuilding as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
If that doesn't resurrect the library then you'll have to start with a new library and import the Originals folder from the old library. Here's how:
Creating a new library while preserving the rolls from the original.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same rolls as the original library. However dates on the rolls may be different but can be edited as you would the roll title.
Once this is completed you can delete the iPhoto library folder from the desktop. If desired, you can keep the older library folder to try other fixes on it.
In the future I recommend you make a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto file after each import and after doing a lot of editing and organizing in the library. Then if you experience a similar crash all you need to do is replace the damaged database file with the backup copy and you'll be back to the same place in the library as when you make the backup. See the tip at the end of my signature.
In the future, Don't mess with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder. See TD's treatis on file access for how to access photos for use outside of iPhoto.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Hyperlinks from converted excel file are not working after pdf file is moved

I have created a pdf file from an excel file that has hyperlinks in it. The hyperlinks work fine if the files are all kept in the same exact location as the time they were created. Once the files are moved (i.e. emailed to another user) the hyperlinks no longer work. An error message pops up that the file can not be found. Is there a setting or something that I'm missing in acrobat that allows for the files to be moved, so that the hyperlinks still function properly, after creation

    No settings adjustments.
The issue is that links, once made, have a specific path (as shown when you view the link's text string).
When you email the files the person who recieves the email and downloads the attachments would have to have the same layout of files/folders you have.
    Without that links are "broken"
You email a zip file that, when extracted, would create the folders/files in the required layout to reflect what you have.
    Be well...

  • How do I delete files permanently from a usb flash key? On my mac (Yosemite 10.10) it's telling me the files are deleted, however on plugging key into television they're still there

I've a problem I've never come across before and it's how to permanently delete files on a usb flash key? I've just migrated from using Windows for 15 years onto Apple iMac and had been deleting files easily and permanently from the key on Windows without any hassle and thought I'd done the same on my iMac but seemingly they're still there as the tele is showing them when key is plugged in, BUT they can not be seen on iMac. I wondered why the key wouldn't take anymore files after, what I thought was, deletion and now I know why-imac hasn't deleted them!
I've actually gone into Disk Utility and formatted the key in it's usual FAT32 format to finally delete the files.  Anyone any ideas as to why this happens and how to solve this please?
    Many thanks

In addition to what Drew wrote, remember the Mac has a data fork and a resource fork.
Here is an old thread but a nice recap by Dr. Smoke
    ._Files
Note that the ._file files you note are the resource forks of Mac files you copied to the drive from your Mac, and these are only visible when you use the Flash drive on a PC. These are normal and indicate the Flash drive is already formatted for Windows.
When you copy or save a file from a Mac OS X system to a Windows shared volume or a Windows-formatted disk, the Mac creates two files: the data fork (xxx) and the resource fork (._xxx). This is called Apple Double Format and is normal. The resource fork contains additional data about the file that is exclusive to the Mac that cannot be saved otherwise on Windows-formatted disks. This is new with Mac OS X, as documented in Mac OS X: Apple Double Format Creates File Name With the Prefix '._'.
The resource fork files (._xxx) are necessary if you want to copy the file back to the Mac and retain the metadata. The resource forks of files are invisible when they are used on the Mac: the Mac OS Extended file system (aka HFS Plus or HFS+) uses forked files, with a file having both data and resource forks.
You can delete the resource forks on the Windows disk if and only if you don't care about losing the resource fork information should you copy them back to the Mac, such as comments, image preview icon, etc. Some Mac applications use the resource fork data, so deleting the resource fork can be problematic if you copy the file back to the Mac. Likewise moving the file while not also moving its associated resource fork when using the data on a PC can result in problems when using some files again on the Mac.
You can't prevent the resource forks from being created if you copy or save files from the Mac to the Windows share or Windows-formatted disk via Finder.

  • Downloaded files are not shown in the folder indicated in Options

"Options" shows that downloaded files should be in a a particular folder. I go to that folder via Windows Explorer and they're not there...other files are, however. So -- how can I access the downloaded files via Windows Explorer if they're not being saved as indicated. Where else could Firefox be putting them? (for testing I checked the "downloads" window list on firefox and compare to the files in the same folder on Windows...two completely different lists).

When you are in the Firefox Downloads window, right-click a file and select '''Open Containing Folder'''. That will open the folder that downloaded file was saved to.
