I downloaded the new software ios5 the other day.  Woke up this morning and all my calendar events are gone!  How do I get everything back??

Plug in your iPhone. Restore it. If it asks you if you want to back it up say no. When the restoring is done, without plugging in your iPhone, you should get an option to restore your iPhone from a back up or a new iPhone option. Restore it from your back up. It has nothing to do with iCloud but I recommend you set up an iCloud account to avoid loosing stuff like your contacts. And it's free.
