I want to use Japanese, English, and Chinese on Office word/excel.
When downloading Office Mac, which language should I choose?
Or it does not matter which language to choose when downloading??

You should choose the language you want to have the menus and dialogues appear in. That has nothing to do with typing different languages, you can always do that no matter what language your app is in. (Except you should note that Word for Mac does not support typing in RTL or Indic scripts).

Just purchased and downloaded office mac. I have downloaded it but it only appears as a document file and will only open with TextEdit. How do I fully install it?

Can you tell what the name of the file that you downloaded is? (specifically the type of file it is would be good to know)
How big is that file?
You say that when you double-click it, TextEdit opens. What does it display? Gabrled text/symbols? Or is it text you can actually read?

Trouble installing Office Mac 2011

I am trying to download Office:Mac 2011 on my new MacBook Pro but keep getting pop up which says it cannot continue with the installation as Safari is open. We have disconnected from the internet but it still keeps telling me the same message. I have tried starting again etc but no joy. Please can someone help?

Also, I did not know there is a downloadable Office for Mac source. Are you trying to get it from the Microsoft site or someplace else. If the later, it could be a pirated copy and potentially contain malware.

While they certainly don't make it clear, if you actually select the link on CNET, it's only an update file (Office2011-1434UpdateEN.dmg) which is listed on Microsoft's site:

Howard has the easiest answer. Or at least, cheapest, since you don't need to purchase an external CD/DVD drive.
The "demo" software from Microsoft's site is exactly the same as what's on the DVD. Install that and activate it with the key in your software box.

trying to install microsoft office: mac 2011 home and student. i am directed to a page and when i click on the link I get an error message about security. i don't have the option anywhere of entering the product key. not sure what to do.

You need to download the installer from Microsoft after you purchase it. Then you will have to run that application and it will request the product key as it goes thru the motions of setting up the product.
If you're trying to download an illegal version for free, that will explain the security message. The browser would be trying to protect you from yourself.

Retina display for office mac 2011

I recently purchased a Mac Book Pro with Retina Display. When I hook up an external montitor Microsoft Office Excel is blurry as is Word.
Mac Book Pro screen, same thing. Does Office Mac 2011 upgrade really fix the problem?

Office 2011 needs an update to be compatible with Retina display. Install the most recent version from the Microsoft site > http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads Or open an Office app, and go to Help menu (on the menu bar) > Check for Updates. Run it twice

I reinstalled Office:mac 2011 Home&Student on my MacBook Pro 2011 after having a new hard drive & cable installed. Nothing in Office will open. There's a dot beside some of the apps on the dock as if they're open, but nothing opens. What should I do? What does this mean?

I think my problem has been that in Sytem Preferences>Mouse, my "Double-Click Speed" was set to the SLOWEST setting. After some experimentation, I now have the that setting two notches from the "Fast" end of the scale. In case it's important, the "Primary mouse button" in my Preferences is set to "Left".
This not only solves the text selection issues described, but also seems to eliminate the strange "resolving alias to" problem.
[For the curious, I have a Logitech Performance MX wireless mouse which can be configured with "Logitech Control Center". But the LCC software doesn't control double-click speed; this setting can only be made in the Mouse System Preference pane.]

Did hold the control key and opened the DB utility but how kan I rebuild the identity? No steps are proposed.

Office:mac 2011 home and business

I am using Office:mac 2011 on my new mac and just after I updated to the new operating system OS X Yosemite version 10.10, my Outlook account has started to add mailboxes to some of my email accounts. e.g.. INBOX 1-INBOX 11-INBOX 111 and it just keeps going
adding more ones after each inbox. It has moved accounts and some emails are just not there anymore. Is it an incompatibility problem with the new operating system?

Remove MS Office 2011 completely (here are instructions) and reinstall it.
It's not a simple or fast process but it is important to follow all of the steps in order to get all the files that Office scatters around. This will not affect your data files, only MS Office and its preferences.

I recently purchased an iMac to replace my 2008 macbook.
I used migration assitant to transfer all of my macbook files to the iMac. I noticed that I had the old 2008 version of Office:mac 2008 on the iMac and decided to install Office:mac 2011 which installed successfully.
However, now I can't open excel or word or powwerpoint now using either 2008 or 2011.... I just get an error message saying there was an error and the app had to close. It offers to send a report to Microsoft.
I tried moving Office:mac 2008 to trash but this didn't resolve the issue.
Can anyone help (I am not a really sohpisticated user so be gentle)
