Downloading photos from Phone to iPhotos by USB

My phone is Sony Ericsson K700i, but when linked to iMac by USB, no icon shows on desktop. I thought I would just be able to click on Import in iPhoto to download photos.
CDs which came with USB cable are only compatible with Windows.
Do I need software? If so what is it and where can I find it?

Hi, Rupert. Before spending money on iLIfe 06 in the hope that it will solve your phone problem, repost in the iPhoto 6 forum and ask whether that version of iPhoto will recognize your phone. If your phone's memory card does not appear on the desktop when connected via USB, iPhoto 6 isn't going to change that, and the only way it will improve your situation is if it recognizes the phone and can import directly from it. I don't know whether or not it has that ability, but I'd be surprised.
For the phone card to appear on the desktop using a USB connection, you would need to install a phone-specific USB driver provided either by the phone maker (and Sony hasn't gotten the word yet that Macs exist, so don't look for any help there) or by a third-party developer. I don't know where to look for a third-party driver, but one may exist. Google may serve you well in searching for it, if it does.
This thread in another online forum may contain some useful information for you.
A different approach would be to buy a BlueTooth adapter to plug into one of your USB ports and sync the phone with the Mac via BlueTooth. The S700i is listed as an iSync-compatible device on this Apple page. I have a D-Link DBT-120 BlueTooth adapter to sync my Motorola Razr phone with my Powerbook; it cost me about $20 on sale at CompUSA. There may also be software alternatives to iSync that can be used to facilitate the transfer of data between phone and Mac, with different features available.
Don't expect iPhoto to be able to import photos directly from the phone via Bluetooth, but you should certainly be able to copy them from the phone to your hard drive and then import them into iPhoto from there.

I downloaded Mac OS X Mountain Lion and now I can't download photos from Safari to iPhoto.

Open iPhoto and then try it. I got the same error message you did when I tried to download an image. iPhoto then opened and I was able to add the image. Not exactly perfect.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Problem downloading photos from iPhone to iPhoto on MacBook

I can't download photos from my iPhone 5 to iPhoto anymore. It comes up with an error message that says 'The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.)' My software is up to date. The photos were taken on my iPhone, however there are also some photos that I have saved from other people who sent them as a text message. How can I save my photos please without loosing them? I have tried to save one image only, not all of them, and nothing work. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • Downloading photos from email to iphoto

I have downloaded photos from an email in gmail (all .jpg) and they are in finder (actually in the iphoto file) and will open in preview, but I cannot transfer to iphoto library. I am using iphoto 6.06, OS 10.4.1. I get the message: unreadable files, the files could not be imported.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
iPhoto is a database, and like any db, data must be imported into it. So putting it in the iPhoto Library Folder is not the way to do it. You should never do anything in there - there are no user serviceable parts there.
iPhoto will not import pics in the active iPhoto Library Folder as a sensible precaution against duplication.
So, move the file to the desktop and import from there.

  • Problems downloading photos from camera to iPhoto

All -- I'm running iPhoto 6 on a Mac Mini with the latest version of OS10. I have a Canon PowerShot G3 and shoot 4-megapixel JPEG photos, and AVI movies. Downloading photos from the G3 to the Mac is slow, and deadly slow (as is 15 minutes or more) when there's an AVI movie or two mixed in with JPEGs. I've had to abort several downloads when they just flat out stalled.
Today when downloading a total of 58 JPEGs and 6 AVI's I got an error message - "unreadable files". 51 JPEGS and 3 AVIs downloaded fine. 7 JPEGS and 3 AVIs didn't download. The error message says "The following files could not be imported. They may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data."
Any help you all can offer would be much appreciated.
    Greg

Isn't technology great? The more you learn, the more you need to learn more.
Have you viewed the iPhoto 6 tutorials? http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/iphoto/new.html The section on Organizing, "Add Ratings, Titles and Comments" could be helpful.
Click on the little blue i on the lower left of the iPhoto window, and the Info Panel should pop up. Select a picture, and it shows the info for it. Select a film roll's name, and you can see and edit the info for the whole roll. Click on the roll's title in the info panel to highlight it and you can type in a new name. You can edit the date of the roll this way, and it will affect how your rolls are listed in the library. The dates "from" and "to" are generated by the dates of the items within the roll. If you type comments about a roll they will be shown below the roll's name in the library when the roll is closed. I like to keep rolls that match my camera cards, but they can be very large. So I use comments to list the events contained in the roll, so I know which roll to open when I want to find a specific photo.
If you view your library in Film Roll view then you see the rolls' names with a little triangle to the left. As in the Finder, clicking on the triangle to make it point right conceales the contents of (closes) an item, while clicking on it to turn it down reveals the items inside the item.
Now the hard part - all those dates. If the dates and times are totally wrong, I would use iPhoto's Batch change to correct them. However, only iPhoto will recognize this date change, because it won't correct the real problem, which is that the EXIF info is wrong for those pictures. There are ways of changing EXIF info which involve downloading other programs, running batch changes, and re-imprting into iPhoto. I've never done it, but I searched the iPhoto 6 forum for "EXIF rename file info" and restricted by user name Old Toad. Try this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1734147&#1734147 and note Old Toad's last post about PhotoInfo.
If you don't mind about the EXIF, then you can just redate them within iPhoto. Select a series of photos from the same date, then go to the Photos menu and select Batch Change. Select Set Date. Type the correct date and give a time for the first picture. To force iPhoto to maintain the same order within the series, check Add 1 minute between each photo. This way, although the times will be wrong, at least they will have the correct chronological sequence. (Or type in the times manually after the batch change if the order is not correct.) I always do this with rolls of actual film I get processed at a store. The photo CD I get never has the correct dates or times, so I add these to at least get them to display in my library in the correct order. As far as I know, you have to run a seperate batch change for each date that you want to change to. Unless you have a series with one photo for each day and wish to check "Add X Days between each photo."

  • When downloading photos from my camera, iphoto will unexpectedly quit. One help suggestion said to try deleting iphoto preferences, but I can't  find them.

Iphoto unexpectedly quits while I am downloading photos from my camera. I logged in under a different name and it worked fine, whcih was one suggestion in my handbook. If that worked, which it did, the book suggests deleting iphoto prefences. But where are Iphoto preferences? I have looked high and low and cannot find them. Any other ideas?  I have a boat load of photos in this primary user log in, so...maybe I need to increase iphoto's RAM, but how do I do that?

Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7 or later: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
What version of the OS? What version of iPhoto?
How many is a "boatload"? There's no way to "increase iPhoto's RAM"

  • Downloading photos from camera to iPhoto

Each time I go to download new photos, my iPhoto program wants to import ALL the pictures on the memory stick, instead of just the new ones. What am I not doing? What should I be doing? I don't want to erase the pix from the memory because I use them. But I don't want to re-invent the wheel each and every time I go to download. My camera is a Cannon. The Cannon software recognized the new photos and would ask me what I wanted to do. Anybody.....?
    radish

    radish,
It's been reported here by many folks that iPhoto 6 often fails to ignore the duplicates upon import from a camera.
Since Canon cameras don't mount on the Desktop, you can use a USB card reader. Remove the card from the camera, pop it into a reader, and it will mount as an external hard drive. If iPhoto brings up its +Ready to Import+ dialog, ignore it. Then do File > Import to Library, and a navigation window will open where you can preview the files on the card and select only the files you wish to import. It's similar to importing with Image Capture, with the advantage of importing directly into your iPhoto library. If you have a photo printer with camera card slots, it may be used as a card reader.
You are wise to not allow iPhoto to delete the photos from your memory card after importing. There have been too many reports of failed imports followed by total deletions.
    Regards.

  • Downloading Photos from Phone

I took some pics with my phone and I would like to download them to my computer. This should be a very easy process.
So I hook up the phone to the laptop with a USB cord. To start, Verizon Cloud starts backing up all of my content from my laptop to the cloud, something completely uncalled for. It takes me a while to stop this. Then I finally find my pictures. I can see them but there is no option to download them. I read the help about "Retrieving Photos from your Handset". I do as stated, I have Mac OS X 10.6.8, but, even after reconnecting my phone, the download of pics does not start.
After half a hour, I have no idea how to get my pics from my phone and I am extremely annoyed that VZW is trying to push down our shove its new product to make us buy Cloud space. Let me add that I have found this new phone poorly designed along many other dimensions. This is just the last straw. Good job, really.

    Yep.
    Dropbox
It's a free app, cross platform so it works on Mac, Windows, android and IOS.
Download on your phone first, it will send email to your Mac to get the free download on the Mac.  It provides 5GB of free storage and will automatically download daily, over your home wifi.
You have access anytime to photos with your smartphone, computer and any other device you put Dropbox on.
I have been using it as the bridge and storage for my IOS, Mac and Android for over a year and have earned extra storage of 1.4 GB, total 6.4 GB
It can store more than photos and video.   Documents, contact lists, it syncs my passwords between IOS and android phone.
As. I mentioned it will auto download photo and video, you can choose to un-link, and do this on demand if you like.
Give it a try, hope you like it.

  • Trouble downloading photos from iphone to iphoto

when i try and download my photos from my iphone 4s i get a message that says "iphoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image" and the it stops downloading.  It doesn't indicate which image there is a problem with.  Has anyone encountered this?  thanks

You are in a very dangerous situation and you need to fix it now.
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.

  • Unable to download photos from camera to iphoto

All of a sudden when I try to import photos from my camera to iPhoto it's as if iPhoto is not recognizing the camera. iPhoto doen't open like it usually does when I plug camera in. Any thought?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
Your Signature says you are running 10.4.8.  Yet you posted to 10.6 forum.  Did you recently upgrade?  If not, have you installed anything new since you were last able to read the camera?  And are the camera's batteries fully charged, and the camera actually showing it is powered on?

  • I want to download photos from Facebook to iPhoto

When I click "download" while viewing a friend's wall photo in facebook, it doesn't go anywhere. I'd like it to open in iPhoto. Is this possible?

No - you can only import photos into iPhoto - download photos to a desktop folder and then import to iPhoto - note that the quailty of Facebook photos is very low

  • Downloading photos from phone to PC

Have a 2730 classic phone.  I've several pics I've taken over time on the phone and was thinking I should download them to my PC.  Haven't a clue how to do this.  I have no USB connector or anything like that, as far as I know, all I have in the original box are the earphones.  Can anyone help please like do I need to purchase anything or is the process quite simple.  I probably sound a complete idiot as everybody seems to download them ok - I had asked my son in law and he said to use my camera USB to download them but it wouldn't recognise the format or whatever.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can connect the phone to PC by buying a compatible USB Cable (CA-101) or an USB Bluetooth Dongle ( to make your PC Bluetooth enabled if its not already..) Then you can browse the phone drives thru' Windows Explorer..Copy-Paste the photos to PC..You may also use the Sync function in OVI Suite to do that..
One more option is to send the photos thru' e-mail..( may be expensive if you do not have unlimited data plan..).. and also required will be setting up e-mail mailbox.. on the phone..
