Drag and Drop files on mac?

I've been using Dreamweaver for years but this is the first time on a mac.
I noticed that I can't simply drag documents into my files view in Dreamweaver. Am I doing something wrong?
Is the only way around this to keep one window open with all the site content folders?
Doesn't really seem efficient.
Any workarounds or recommendations?

I don't think its possible. You have to keep a finder window open and even auto refresh isn't as timely as it was on PC.
I have come to the realization that dreamweaver is better on a PC.

Mac: can I drag and drop files from Finder into Files panel

I am relatively new to Mac so forgive me if this is obvious.
I just switched from Windows to Mac and now something I used to
know how to do in Windows I can't figure out how to do on Mac. In
Windows I used to open an Explorer window over Dreamweaver, select
some files, and drap and drop them into the Files panel in
Dreamweaver, and they would be sucked in.
Now on the Mac whenever I select the Finder window to select
files to drag and drop, the Dreamweaver panels disappear
completely, rather than just move beneath the Finder window. So
when I'm ready to drag and drop there's no Dreamweaver to drop
into. I see that if I put focus on Dreamweaver, then Finder won't
disappear, and I can click on Finder to begin a drag without
Dreamweaver disappearing but then it is unresponsive to a drop.
In short, I can't seem to drag and drop files from Finder
into Dreamweaver on the Mac. Am I missing something? I'm using
Dreamweaver CS3 on Leopard if that makes any difference.

I don't believe you can do this on the Mac platform. The only
other thing you could try is to use Spaces and have the Finder open
in one Space and then drag it over to Dreamweaver in another space.
Outside of that I can't think of how this would work.

I have 2 auxillary disk drives for my MacBokk Pro. Time Machine uses one for backup and I use the other for storage, but I am unable to create a new folder or drag and drop files or folders to the aux drive.

I am unable to create a new folder on either of my auxillary disk drives. I can access the files and folders that were there when I transferred one of the drives from a PC. Time machine uses one for backup and I want to use the other to store photos which are large files. An help would be appreciated.

The files were originally created on a PC which I no longer use. I do want to continue to access the files put there by the PC. I would like to not have to copy them over to the MAC hard drive just to use them. The second aux drive is new and works fine because it was formatted by the MAC. I can drag and drop files there and work with just as if they were on the internal drive.

You posted here so would assume you are also talking about running Windows.
Are the drives NTFS and use on Windows?
Are they Mac HFS formatted?
You likely will need NTFS for OS X in one case. to mount PC and use under Mac OS Lion

I can't drag and drop files...

Out of nowhere, I can no longer drag and drop files on my desktop or within my Finder windows. I also cannot drag pictures from Safari onto my Desktop. I do not think there is a problem with my Trackpad as I can still move Safari windows and the like around the screen. I am using an Intel-based Mac Book Pro with OS X 10.5.8 Any help would be amazing and much appreciated. Thank you!

I'm having the same issue. I can no longer drag images from Safari (5.1.2) to Finder. I am on Lion (10.7.2). Has anybody found a fix for this? Having to right-click and "Save As..." makes me feel like I'm working in Windows XP, which is, needless to say, he11 of an unbearable kind.

Unable to drag and drop files or folders

I'm unable to drag and drop files or folders. I can't drag from a folder to desktop, I can't drag from finder. I can't move files around. I can't drag from itunes into ipod.
I've run Onyx and disk permission repair, cleaned all caches etc, all to no avail.
Get info tells me I have read and write permissions.
Can someone please help me.

I'm having the same problem, the terminal command to make that testfile worked, guess its a good sign but i wouldn't know, I also have a couple of extra problems:
It started with VisualHub saying "Critical componats of Mac OS X are missing or damaged on your system, Without them, VisualHub is unable to continue. The affected componats is/are: - /tmp Temporary Directory. Try Repairing Permissions using Disk Utility"
So i did that using OnyX, rebooted, still didn't work, so i remember hearing about how reinstalling .3 of 10.5.3 can help replace files that are lost, so i did that and thats where it went wrong, it rebooted and it seemed to go good, but then i noticed a big ? where Camino is meant to be on my Dock and i looked in my stack and it was gone, Safari would crash on the 5th letter i typed anywhere on the browser, (Safari and Webkit Nightly) At least Firefox works so i can post this, Spotlight is gone from the menu bar, i can't drag anything from the dock and i can't drag safari from the App stack or the dock crashes.
The thing that worries me is why was Camino deleted? and Safari crashing?
If anyone has a solution to this you would be a HUGE help, i really don't want to reformat my mac because i don't have anywhere to backup my files, i don't have the money for a decent sized HDD to backup into.

Drag and Drop Files Onto Seagate External Hardrive

I can't seem to just drag and drop files I want to store on an external hardrive with Seagate. I hate that. I just want a simple drag and drop so I can free up some space on my computer. But Seagate just seems to just seems to say **** you, we're gonna do it backwards ***. Can someone please explain how to just drag and drop files? I have zero idea, and they don't make it simple to understand.
So for the love of god....please explain it to me (without use of computer terminology or telling me places I should go on my computer that I don't know what the **** they are. Renders your help useless, and it's frustrating because no matter how many times I ask this, you just give me help i can't understand anyway.)

If possible, use step by step instructions, if you need to tell me to go somewhere on my computer, tell me where that is too so I know where to go. Don't be vague, I can't understand vague instructions when i read them.

What is the drive formatted as? this is extremely likely the issue.

Drag and drop files for burn to DVD takes FOREVER

When I drag and drop files onto the blank DVD icon, the ghosts of said files just hang there for the longest time, and I get a spinny beach ball. Many, many minutes later things finally return to normal and I can proceed with burning the DVD. It's just copying some aliases, right? It didn't used to take more than a couple of seconds before I upgarded to Mavericks. So what the **** is taking so long now?

Finder - Can't drag and drop files onto stacks on the desktop anymore.

This might sound like a strange question but in the past I was able to select a group of files in a window and drag that group to the desktop where they would stack upon one another creating a neat stack of all the files in one place. Now when I do this they drag onto the desktop and remain spread out all over the place. It's not terribly difficult to deal with except if I'm dragging say, 30 photos onto the deskop. Before they appeared stacked upon one another and I could simply drag one off the stack one by one. I am however experincing harsh symptoms of OCD because I can't figure out why. My co-worker's Mac is the same as mine (both running 10.8.2) and his files stack just fine.
I've done a fresh install after having no luck and it's till doing it.
This is really bumming me out. Any suggestions are very welcome. I've even booted into safe mode and it still won't stack drag and dropped files onto the desktop.

Relaunch Finder and restart Mac OS X. See if this helps.

Open dialogue box in Lion is not supporting drag and drop files (UPDATE)

This is freaking me out. Because now in Lion you can't drag and drop file from the desktop (and other folders!) to open dialogue box. It was most usefull function in Mac OS X. Why Apple kill usabillity?
Access to the desktop is not a problem (command + d), but if the current file is located deep in the hierarchy of folders, it becomes a big problem!!!
Dear Apple, please fix it as soon as you can.

Dragging and dropping files onto DVDs

I am new to MAC and want to copy some of my written files containing photos onto DVDs for storage.
On my old PC (not a MAC) I would simply format a new DVD and then drag and drop the files onto the disc - job done !
However I can't find out anywhere how to do this on my MAC and a long and probably expensive phone call to Apple Tech Help, left me frustrated and no nearer finding a solution as the Tech on the phone couldn't even tell me how to format a new DVD let alone how to get my documents onto the DVD ! I don't want to 'burn' the documents onto the DVD as I need to add to it on a regular basis I just want to get the files copied to the DVD. Can anyone out there tell me in simple terms how to do this please ?

The Mac supplied software doesn't support multiple writes to optical media.
I though perhaps you could do this with Roxio's Toast, but their support site says: "As such, Toast does not allow burning multi-session DVDS."

Drag and drop problem On Mac OS

Hi guys,
I have a java applet code running well on windows and Linux.it consists of dragging files from a JFileChooser and dropping them to a JTable.
But the drag and drop feature doesn't work on Mac OS platforms.I don't get any errors log .simply files don't get dropped to JTable.
In my code i simply use a TableTransferHandler registered on JTable and then setDragEnabled() for JFileChooser.
What can i do to make my code run correctly on Mac OS ?

For those interested, I got drag and drop working on the Mac. I got some help on the Apple-Dev forums, but basically, if you want to do your own drag and drop on the Mac OSX, you must have your transfer handler support StringFlavor. If it doesn't, it will not work.

is it possible to drag and drop files into folders in iPad reader? or iTunes? It is very clunkey to have to click each separate file to instruct it to move to the folder. Better still, can I just sync an existing folder on my hard drive so the pdf's inside always remain up to date on my iPad?

There is no way to drag and drop in Reader on an iPad.
There is no way to sync PDFs in a folder on your hard drive to those inside of Reader.
There are readers (which are NOT free) which let you do some of these things and have more capabilities. You might check out PDF Expert from Readdle which costs $9.99 US.

I just installed two widgets that are supposed to function by dragging and dropping files into them. How do I get access to files? How do you get files from the Finder into the dashboard?

You need to activate Dashboard's "Developer Mode" in order to keep widgets active on the desktop.
Open Terminal and enter the following command:

Close Terminal, log out of your user account, and log back in again. To move a widget onto your desktop, activate Dashboard and start dragging the widget to the desktop. Can't drag and drop files into Attachments while in Administrator mode

I can drag and drop files into attachment easily when I'm not in Administrator mode. But I need to be in Administrator mode at work and therefore for some reason I cannot drag and drop files into attachments; I'm forced to manually search and select particular files for attaching, which significantly slows my day-to-day work.
Is it a bug?
I have the up-to-date version of Thunderbird and I use MS Windows 7 Ultimate.

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
*Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled".
