Dragging QT clips to iMovie

I have a Firestore FS-4 Pro (external hard drive) that I use when recording football for the local community college. When recording, the footage is recorded as Quick Time files on the FS-4. When I mount the drive, open the folder and drag the files into iMovie, the clips are out of order. (Note: the clips are in order, according to time code, within the Folder on the hard drive.)
However, I did figure out that if I enlarge the Folder "window" so that the clips are say four or five across in each row, and then select only the clips in a given row, then the files get "imported" in order. So I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the way iMovie and/or Tiger in general handles the organization and "ordering" of files when they exchanged from a folder to say an application like iMoive. Thanks for the knowledge.

Drag and drop doesn't work - instead do a File -> import -> movies and select from there.

  • Can I freely drag & drop clips in iMovie's timeline?

I'm trying to make a vid of clips playing along with the lyrics of a song. It'd be easier if I could drag the clips wherever I want, but they just get stuck in the position they're dropped in.

Do you mean that you are trying to get the clips to change in time with the music?  You can drag them around in any order but iMovie will not leave any spaces between them so you have to adjust their durations to get the timing right.

  • Can't drag clips to iMovie 08

I am using iMovie (08). When I drag a video (.mov) clip to the boxes, where it says "Drag media here to create a new project," iMovie will not accept it. It is like it is unable to recognize the video format... An info check of the video clip says it is a Quick Time Movie. I admit I am new to using iMovie. I have done same with .jpeg photos and it worked fine. Am I overlooking something simple here? thanks!

you can drag only Clips into a Project, which are (part of) an Event; not from 'outside' iMovie.

Assuming you have (1) signed out, then (2) waited 30 minutes and it didn't work you will need to contact iTunes again.

    Hi
YOU need to - in iMovie - Turn on Advanced Tools !
top row menu - with an Apple top left ---> iMovie ---> down to preferences ---> Here select to turn on Advanced tools .
Now it will work when You drop a clip onto another IN a MOVIE PROJECT ! (can not be done in Event's)
Next problem I had - was to get right clip onto the other - what was the Background and What was the Green screen - BUT just test - You only got two ways to try out.

  • How do you combine two or more movie clips into one movie clip in iMovie '09

how do you combine two or more movie clips into one movie clip in iMovie '09

First create an iMovie project. Then drag the clips (or portions of clips) that you need into the project.
When finished, use the SHARE menu to share the project.

  • How do I get home video clips from iMovie Mac to iMovie iPad?  Surely there is some degree of cross-compatibility?  I have a load of clips in iMovie on my MBP that I wanna download to my iPad2 so that I can edit movies on the move.  Any ideas?

How do I get home video clips from iMovie Mac to iMovie iPad?  Surely there is some degree of cross-compatibility?  I have a load of clips in iMovie on my MBP that I wanna download to my iPad2 so that I can edit movies on the move.  Any ideas?  (The clips are in a .mov format, they have been imported / converted into this format in iMovie, original files were from a JVC camcorder in some other strange format.)

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places.  I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file.  There must be something else that's missing.  My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive.  If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess.  I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={  Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period.  I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive.  Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me).  As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"

  • Why can I no longer drag and drop in iMovie 11?

Why can I no longer drag and drop in iMovie 11? This means I can't select transitions, titles, or even move clips within the project. Never had this problem before.

Serious bugs in iM 11 with numerous lock-ups and crashes.  I shouldn't have upgraded -- now I'm pulling out my hair trying to complete a video project with it.
    Apple is losing their way.

  • How do I edit clips in iMovie (or Premiere Elements 10)?

I am new to Mac. Used to have no problem at all editing and converting movies on my PC. Have both iMovie and Adobe Premiere Elements 10 on my new Mac. Even as a borderline PC geek, I can't seem to figure how to clip and edit and merge videos on my Mac. Guessing I will have questions about saving to a new DVD as well when I get that far. Trying to condense dozens of DVDs with old family home movies down to a single DVD by selecting 'best of clips.' Grateful for any assistance.

    Hi Jeni,
I am not familiar with Windows Movie Maker, so I lack any frame of reference (no pun inteneded) to judge what you may be doing wrong. Both iMovie and Premiere Elements (PE) are designed so that the normal work flow is trim the clip the way you want, then put the clip in the timeline of your movie. In either you can work other ways, but the layout and tools in these programs are pretty much geared for that type of workflow. I use both by the way, although I am fairly new to Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and have not used iMovie all that much. In PE for example, you can double click the clip you want to use and that opens the clip viewer. You slide the pointers at the beginning and end of the clip viewer time line to set what are called "in and out points" and drag the clip into your time line or onto the scene line depending on which PE editing mode you are using. When you eventually export the movie using the Share panel, the program exports the entire timeline, which should be the series of trimmed clips, unless you check the box to tell it to only export the marked part of the timeline (I forget the title on the check box and don't have the program running in front of me). But in either case, each clip in your movie or portion of a movie should be trimmed according to the in and out points you previously set.
iMovie works on a similar concept, except you drag your mouse pointer over a clip in an event to adjust the yellow rectangle to mark the part of the clip you want to use, then drag that clip into you project. In either program there are ways of trimming and cropping clips in the timeline/sceneline/project and automatically adjusting the rest to compensate, but in any case, I'm not sure why you would be losing the edits.

  • Creating and saving a photo from video clip in iMovie '11

    Hello,
My dad took what he thought were photos from his iPhone. Turned out to be a bunch of one second video clips as he accidentally had it on the video camera mode. Trying to create a still photo image from these clips. What's the best way to do this? Is iMovie able to do this? If so, some guidance would be greatly appreciated.
I did try searching with no luck.
    Thanks for your help,
    AJ

You can import the clips from your iPhone into iMovie 11.
There are two approaches. Let's call them the shotgun approach and the rifle approach.
    Shotgun approach:
Drag the 1 second video clips into an iMovie Project. Then SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME.
Choose Still image sequence. This will give you 30 jpegs per second for all the clips. In other words, it will give you every single frame, converted to a still.
    Rifle Approach:
Download a free app to your Mac called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5.
    Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iPhoto, right click on one of the Video clips, and select "Show in Finder".
Drag these clips from the Finder into MPEG Streamclip. You should be able to hit the Play button and see them all.
Move the playhead in MPEG Streamclip to the exact frame that you want. Then click FILE/Export Frame. You can choose whether you want JPEG, TIFF, or PNG. And choose a location. Move the playhead to the next frame you want and repeat.

  • Import mp4 clip into imovie project

Thought I could drag and drop - but it's not working. Original clip was filmed with the movie setting on my regular digital camera as a .mov file extension. I think I was told I needed to convert to mp4, which I did with isquint. Still can't put the clips into imovie. What am I doing wrong?

Thought I could drag and drop - but it's not working.
Where are you trying to drop the files? "Drag 'n drop" only works if you drop the file on an "Event Name" in the Event Library list and not directly to an Event window. Of course, the audio and video compressed data must be compatible.

  • Unrejecting clips in iMovie 11

I rejected certain clips in iMovie.  I then saw an orange line through them so I knew they were in a project.  How do I "unreject" them so they no longer show up in the rejected screen canvas.  I am using iMovie '11 and a MacBook Pro.

Use the Unmark Tool on the middle toolbar. Drag the tool over the clips and the red line will go away.
The UnMark tool looks like an empty star.
