Drawing in flash shortcuts?

This might be a loaded question, I am working on a hand drawn animation using Flash and expect to be putting enormous amounts of work into it to produce something really nice. My animation has some fast-paced moments and some slower paced events. I try to make good use of subtleness in my work, somel barely noticable movements for aesthetic purposes, etc. I was wondering about other ways to work around some scenes in my animation by using some tricks to help lighten some of my load in drawing? Of course, I want to keep things looking uniform and wouldn't want the work to suddenly look like the entire style may have changed somewhere mid-animation but there must be ways to help me cut down on the amount of drawing I would do, yes? What methods can you suggest?

Corbin -  I understand exactly what you're getting at.  How to use the tools available in the digital software to help ease (not eliminate) some of the workload of drawing each line one frame at a time.
The number one piece of advice that comes to mind is don't forget about your 'copy/paste' capabilities.  If your character's right arm isn't moving for the next 10 frames, copy and past that piece of art instead of redrawing it for every frame.  If your a 'purist' (like me) your brain is immediatly screaming 'CHEATER!', but it's not a cheat. The masters back in the day would do the same thing with layered drawings - if you watch an old cartoon from the 40's or 50's you might notice a slight color shift in parts that aren't moving at the moment.  That's because they're 'hold frames' and the drawing is repeated for as many frames as necessary before it starts moving again.
Along those lines, one thing that Toon Boom does that Flash doesn't is give you the option of keeping your lines as independent vector pieces, instead of merging everything into one object.  For example - in Flash if you draw a line using the brush tool, and then draw another line that touches the first, the two lines 'connect' and become one vector object.  In Toon Boom you have the option to turn that 'mergie-ness' off or on as you need.  Keeping the brush strokes as separate pieces helps in situations where you need to incorporate 'hold frames' but don't want to make a completely new library symbol.   For example, you have an arm in three pieces - upper arm, forearm, and hand.  In Flash you can copy the arm from one frame to the next, and then in the new frame, split the arm back into it's three pieces to do a sort of 'cut out' style movement that still gives the hand drawn look.  In Toon Boom, you don't have to continuously 'cut apart' the arm, as it retains it's segmentation from paste to paste.
One last bit of advice, don't fall into the temptation to use the tweening capabilities that are built in Flash - not if your trying to stay true to the look of traditional hand drawn animation.  That's a real 'cheat' and will SERIOUSLY lower the production quality of your project.  Other than for moving cycling animation (like walks, or wing flaps) or 'camera moves' everything should be hand drawn whenever possible.

Good luck, and happy animating!

  • Cannot draw in Flash Pro CC on Surface Pro 3 with latest N-Trig drivers...Is there a current fix?

Cant draw in flash pro cc on surface pro 3 with latest n-trig wintab drivers. Many others online say they have this issue on surface pro 3 also...Is there not some type of current fix. Someone on the adobe forums said the problem was fixed internally in flash pro and that the fix will come with next adobe flash pro update, but when is that?
Flash updates don't exactly  come every month or even 2 months, and this issue needs some type of current fix because there are many ppl also having this issue, which basically makes Flash Pro useless, what good is an animation program if you cannot draw in it on a tablet that literally SPECIALIZES in pen/drawing usage. So anything out there ??

its very frustrating as I'm paying monthly for CC and can't use one the programs I need for my design job! Looking at other programs.

  • Exporting a drawing from Flash Pro CC to Illustrator?

Greetings! Been drawing in Flash for years -- Can't seem to export to Illustrator without pixelization and distortion!
I thought Flash Pro allows you to export with a new extension... Please help and thank you in advance.... Tara

  • Drawing in Flash question regarding Illustrator-like technique....

    Hello,
I have a question and I've tried looking through the help file and Google search. This question is in regards to drawing lines in Flash via the Pencil tool (and/or the paintbrush tool).
In Illustrator, using either the paintbrush and pencil tool, I can draw lines and then draw more lines that continue off the existing shape. If I double-click either of these tools in the toolbar, I can choose "Keep Selected". What this does is allow you to make more than one separate drawing path, keeps it selected after first line put down, allows you to make additional lines and it continues off the existing path (in the end continuous line creations forms one shape). So instead of numerous paths per line draw, it makes it one continuous shape. How this helps when drawing is it creates nice corners (smooth or sharp corners that don't appear separated).
In Flash, how do I do this? I tried the pencil tool and brush (although I seek this feature primarily for the pencil tool). When I draw a path, stop, and try to draw a new path it doesn't continue off of it. I tried this with the line tool as well... no luck.
    Thanks!

I too would love to know how this is done. I use Freehand, macromedia created freehand and flash, I use the two together as was the Macromedia way to do so, probably to offset the lack of decent drawing tools in Flash.  The pen tool and bezier curves, handles etc, THE  correct way of drawing lines, curves that leave a straight line correctly etc, lines that are one continual vector when drawn, the ability to continue a line etc, such basic graphic drawing functionality seems to be missing in Flash. Try drawing a line then modifying the bezier tangent handles, I cant see how thats done. By now it should be in there, we are at CS5 so Adobe, what are you playing at ?
It was told to me that the only way to get proper lines and draw in Flash is not to draw in Flash ! Draw in Freehand then import it in. So I do that !  Then Adobe deny the ability to import Freehand into CS5...hells bells !  Freehand and Flash go hand in hand, they always did, until Adobe get hold of it all.   I have all my Freehand artwork and no easy way to get it into Flash now, Illustrator is not an option to translate it into flash by the way. I have to import into Flash 8 then open the flash 8 file into CS5. What are Adobe up to ?  They should be improving Flash and basic drawing ability along with it.  CS5 is also very slow compared to CS4, complaints all over the net on this, I think I shall downgrade to CS4, it supports Freehand !

  • Drawing in flash and exporting files to illustrator

I use to be able to draw or tweak drawings in Flash and then export them as a postscript or swf file so that I could keep editing them in Illustrator. These features seem to be missing and I don't understand why. Surely these are features that were used by other users. So the print image feature is gone in Flash and that was where I could contain my vector drawing as a postscript or PDF and now I can't do that any more. In Illustrator I use to be able to open up .swf files and I can't do that anymore. Is there a go around? Why take such a good thing away that is so useful to artists and designers?

    Hi All,
Flash Pro CC 2014 (v14.0.0.110) is now available for download via the Creative Cloud App and Adobe website.
We have added SVG Export feature to Flash Pro with this new release. You will now be able to export out vector content from the selected frame as an SVG image that can be opened directly in a Browser and even imported in Adobe Illustrator.
SVG Export option can be accessed via the Publish Settings as well as via File Menu > Export > Export Image option.
Along with this, we have added several new features with this release. Complete list is available at these links:

  • Basic drawing in flash

    Hi ,
Im using flash 8 , I always used to import graphics rather than to work with original drawing tools of flash, im studding those tools and I have some questions.
is there a way to do mathematic in the      parameter like I can do in illustrator (I tried but nothing)?
is there any way to repeat and duplicate the last transform? Comparing to      illustrator?
is there a way I can align the transformation      point to other object?
is there a way to align points?
I can subtract, union…but how to get overlapped      shapes?
    That’s ll for now’
    Thanks
    S

    1. I don't know what this means, can you give an example?
    2. Possibly, can you explain in greater detail?
    3. In Flash its called the registration point. Yes, look at the alignment tool.
    4. Look at the snapping options in combination with the alignment tool.
    5. If you overlap two shapes in the same layer, you can select the individual outline segments and fill areas and then copy/cut and paste those selected items to a new/different layer or different position in the same layer.

  • Drawing in Flash - V - Importing from Illustrator

Is there any advantages or disadvantages from creating vector artwork in Illustrator and then bringing it into Flash? or is it just better to do all drawings in flash?
I find it much easier to draw in Illustrator and then import the work into the flash library. Is it better to import the .ai file, or as an .eps? or something different?
    Thank you in advance.

That depends on what you want/need to do with the Illustrator file after you import it into Flash. Remember that Flash is a 72 ppi RGB application, so you need to set up your Illustrator file to these settings before you start or you will have to deal with the, usually awkward, translation that Flash performs on the file when it is imported.
If you will not be editing the Illustrator file, then you can just save it as an .ai file and import that into Flash. If you think that you will be editing the file, or will need to separate out layers from the Illustrator file in Flash, then Export from Illustrator to a Flash .swf. This will give you greater flexibility in Flash.

  • Messed up my adobe flash shortcut (dock)

I messed up my shortcut on my dock. I accidently deleted it and when i tried to replace it i did it the wrong way and made a mess of things. duplicates, extra icons in places i didnt want, ect. Now that i got it in my dock it wont open. I'm missing the " AuthPlay  DLL/Lib" from the configuration folder. I emptied my trash and probally deleted something important. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to uninstall/reinstall? I don't have access to my disc right now and can't reinstall off my original disc. Can i do that from the website?
    I have a mac OS x

Adobe flash cs5 (came as part of a suite) Thank you for your help. After more digging i was able to find what i needed to do on another fourm after i posted this question. I got it fixed.

  • Jagged edges while drawing in flash.

While playing around with flash I found that the lines I draw come out very jagged. Here is an example: Gyazo - fb6908d873681f041697221fc06294b2.png Is there anyway I could fix this?

    Hi ,
This is because of smoothing value you set ,you can in the screenshot you shared ,you have made the smoothing as 0 . Can you please try increasing the smoothing value under Brush PI .
    Thanks!

  • Adobe Flash Shortcuts

Maybe OT, but according to Adobe docs, I should be able to hit "Cmd" + F9 and open the script window. It doesn't work. Do I need to enable shortcuts or something?
    TIA,
    beno

Well that created different results than anticipated...but at least it did something! Say, how do I get my Mac to let me use the keyboard to pull down "File", "Edit", etc? I activated the fn key as you mentioned.

  • Drawing in Flash

This [... information was posted ...] in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flash/cs/using/WSd60f23110762d6b883b18f10cb1fe1af6-7e8aa.html

For a little more information on creating complex paths, author Geoff Blake has a Flash CS6 tutorial video on the InfiniteSkills blog. He shows how to set multiple anchor points and combine multiple shorter paths around a curve:

  • Safari won't draw my flash files - Firefox will

I am a graphic designer who purchased software that automatically creates Flipbooks out of my PDFs.
The end result are files (including Flash files) that are uploaded to my website area and I distibute the flipbook as a weblink.
I created the flipbook and it works fine on Firefox, but it does not work on Safari. I tried another computer in the office and it does not load on their machine either. I emailed it to a friend and it DID load in his Safari.
Here is an interesting note: I created a new GUEST account on my computer and it DID load in Safari fine as GUEST. Therefore there is something going on with my Admin account (the only account I use). For this to work, I do not want to go around to the other computers in the office and create GUEST accounts. I am of course, concerned that other end-users will not be able to see this - but for now, I just want to fix my machine so that Safari will load these files.
    Any thoughts?
I am on 10.7.4 on a MacBookPro 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Animating "Drawing" in Flash

I'm sure this is a frequent question, but I haven't found the right search terms to yield results.
I'm attempting to animate the drawing of a line... A line with about 10 segments, which I basically want to be drawn in from the top to the bottom of the stage.  It seems that this can be done with masks, but I'm curious if there's a way to have it actually be drawn in... (hopefully without the use of AS).
    Thanks in advance!

Without the use of AS your only option would be to use a timeline tween where you either move a mask over the line or gradually change one dimension. The mask approach would be the most likely to resemble what you probably want.

  • Why can't I draw using my pen tablet in Flash?

I can draw with my pen tablet in Photoshop, but not Flash! I have a Yiynova tablet monitor that works excellent for drawing in Photoshop, but when I try to draw in Flash I get this odd straight line that goes straight off my canvas. Is this because Flash can't recognize my pen? I can still use the shape tool, and other parts the program by clicking around. But the second I try to draw, I only get this weird line --->

    Hi,
This issue is fixed in latest Oct update of Flash Pro CC 2014. The new version is 14.1.0.96. Please check if you have this version.
If the issue is still happening, Can you please provide the following information
    Flash Pro Version Number
    Tablet model
    Tablet driver version Number
Mapping mode set for the tablet ,Is it PEN mode or MOUSE mode.
----------------If its Mouse mode pressure and tilt does not work. Please set the mapping mode to PEN.
Also check what is the compatibility mode set : RightClick the FlashPro Application Shortcut -> Properties > Compatibility and checking the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" option.
There was similar issue reported on Re: Sensibility on flash cc 2014. Check if this helps.
PS : Generally updating to the latest wacom driver and restarting the system and Flash Pro resolves most of the issue. Please try this once.Latest wacom drive can be downloaded fromhttp://us.wacom.com/en/support/drivers/

  • HELP!!! Adobe Flash CC pencil and paint brush not drawing properly!!!

Hi, The paintbrush tool and the pencil tool draw upside down when I am using my graphics tablet, and I know it's not the tablet that's the cause because it works perfectly in paint and photoshop cc, it's just flash cc that has the issue!! how do I sort this?? Please Help!!! I have uploaded a video describing the issue, with the first program showing Flash Pro CC and the second showing Photoshop CC, but basically it's only the pencil and the paintbrush that are affected, the cursor is properly in sync, as you can see by the use of the square and the line tool. Go to 0:50 to see the issue straight away, though try to watch from the start as I demonstrate that the pen works well with other tools in flash cc.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

Cant offer you much advice but the same thing happens on my tablet.
It works in paint but it does not even draw in flash.
But since it does draw in yours why don't you try resetting preferences or exploring your stylus setting in flash for finding the root cause of your problem.
See if you can post a screenshot of your stylus settings to me if resetting preferences does not work.
