Dreamweaver CC - CSS

How does one simply create a new css rule in the "Design Panel" and then how does one, at the end of the process, move/export the css rules to an external styles sheet.  In my Dreamweaver CC, the "move css rules" is greyed out.

Check Out http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/using/css-designer.html to get started with the CSS Designer , you can move rules by dragging them into the other stylesheets

  • Table created in Dreamweaver with CSS not positioning correctly

    I've created a simple 9 page website using Dreamweaver and CSS. I am no pro but I can edit some in the code. I'm really enjoying the CSS but for some reason I cannot find out why my tables appear perfect in Firefox but not in Chrome or IE. The tables are centered properly but they appear way below where they're intended to be!
    I've tried to paste my code but can't, is there somewhere I can post it?

    After struggling with this last night I took a look again this morning and narrowed down and corrected the problem. Basically, this is what happened to cause the issue and how I resolved it. Hopefully it helps others in the future.
    Steps
    Create project in Windows version of Cp (I was using version 8.01).
    For my client's requirements, which are quite unique and complex compared to the typical Cp project, custom quiz questions/scoring had to be developed. Since these are HTML5 (non-responsive) courses, and Javascript is the fastest/most efficient way to do this, I used Javascript extensively for quizzes via the 'Execute Javascript' action. So for quiz questions, each answer is simply a smartshape (transparent, with answer text in it) that triggers the 'Execute Javascript' on click. In addition, on many of the quiz slides there are Edge Animate/HTML5 interactions embedded.
    Worked fine on windows upon publish. But when I opened on a new Mac and published, when a question answer was clicked nothing would happen.
    Turns out the problem seems to be with the text in the Javascript window. I think it somehow gets corrupted, though it looks fine. I had to literally delete the javascript, save it, and then copy it back in. Once I did that, it works.
    I've invested too much time in this project so far, so don't want to risk any more major issues popping up like this, so I switched back to Windows and canceled my subscription this morning. Fortunately I have a license from my employer for Windows and will just use that with Boot Camp.

  • I need help finding a workable web program that is not CSS based.  I tried IWeb and it just won't work for me.  Way too limiting.  I've been using a 12 year old copy of Macromedia Dreamweaver, but the new Dreamweaver is CSS

    Been building web pages for nearly 20 years, starting with GoLive.  Went to Dreamweaver about 12 years ago, the Macromedia version.  Tried going to iWeb when it came with a new Mac, but found it way too limiting with it's CSS template base.   Unknowlingly, I then bought a new copy of Dreamweaver.   Ooops, Adobe had bought Macromedia and Dreamweaver, too, is now CSS based, which for my money makes it useless to anyone who likes simplicity.   Now I find that even iWeb has been discontinued.  I was told yesterday that Apple doesn't have a web program any more.   At 12 years old, I just don't think it's practical to try to load my old Macromedia Dreamweaver into the new Mountain Lion (I'm getting a new Mac), though it is running, barely, in Snow Leopard.
    I need to find a web builder program that will permit simple construction of educational pages, nothing fancy, nothing artistic, just create a page, give it a color, type or drag in text, insert a table, insert pix in the table blocks, add text under the pix... done!    I should note that I am not looking to build traffic.  I teach simple things for free and people who want to learn those things (antique sewing machine repair, quilting, building longbows) find me.
    I've downloaded trial versions of half a dozen or so programs and looked at maybe 20 more, but all are either CSS based and drive me insane with requirments for constantly making rules and template models, and/or require that you base your web presence in their server.   Also, many will not work with pages built in other programs.  I maintian a volume of over 1000 web pages, many requiring regular updating, and they have been with the same server for more than 15 years.  I'm not about to change.
    So, anybody know a simple, old fashioned web builder that's happpy on a Mac platform?
    Captain Dick

    Although not supported anymore, iWeb does still function using Mountain Lion...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/mountain-lion.html
    ... and you can purchase it from Amazon.
    Start with a blank page using the Black or WHite template.
    All modern websites use CSS and there are thousands of free templates to be had if you want to use a code entry style application. You will need to go this route if you want to create a site that is viewable on mobile devices although you can create an iPhone version using iWeb...

  • DreamWeaver CS4 CSS code hints not working

    Please help.
    DreamWeaver has stopped showing code hints for CSS selector values. When I start typing "…   div {border:   …" DreamWeaver used to show the possible value for this selector (i.e. 1px solid #ccc). Now all that pops up is this "…   'border-width' 'border-style' 'color'   …"
    How can I get DreamWeaver to show the possible values for CSS? I'm running DreamWeaver CS4 on a Mac book pro with Snow Leopard. DreamWeaver was set up using the default settings, and there are no extensions enabled.
    The attached screen shots show what I am experincing.

  • How can I bring back image Align options in Dreamweaver CS6 (CSS not an option)?

    Why were the options to align images from the Property bar removed in Dreamweaver CS6? When CSS isn't an option (email, CMSs, etc ), what options are available to better edit the inline HTML code?
    For this purpose, is it better to revert to an older version of Dreamweaver?

    You can write inline code in any version of Dreamweaver, but you need to hand-code it. Versions later than CS2 or Dreamweaver MX don't really support inline code generation, as the idea for websites was to generate external style sheets.
    Here's what I do for emails: I use MailChimp. Their on-line email generators do write good code that is readable in any email application and they also allow the user to subscribe to a text-only email.
    If you still have your old copy of Dreamweaver MX or CS-2 that supports in-line code generation, keep using that. It will coexist nicely with Dreamweaver CS6 and you can have both open at the same time. As long as it continues to work correctly on your operating system, you're good to go.

    Anyone run into issues when creating a site with Dreamweaver and an external CSS and having information edited in Contribute add in-line styles? It is a pain in the rear to continually go back and edit out the in-line styles when the purpose of using contribute is to free me up from that type of content editing.

  • Photoshop CS3 to Dreamweaver CS3 CSS question

    Hi all,
    I am sorry if this is allready dicussed a couple of times.I did a search and just could not find it. When I export a site from Photoshop CS3 to DIV (generate CSS by ID) it is aligned to the left and all DIV's have a specific position on the page. How can I get my site to center in Dreamweaver CS3 without having to adjust al separate DIV's?
    For Example: When I export from Photoshop all slices are exported as folowed.
    #Table_01 {
    position:absolute;
    left:auto;
    top:0px;
    width:832px;
    height:562px;
    right: auto;
    #test-13 {
    position:absolute;
    left:275px;
    top:26px;
    width:9px;
    height:189px;
    #test-14 {
    position:absolute;
    left:284px;
    top:26px;
    width:128px;
    height:98px;
    I know how to make a DIV center (with Margin auto left and right) but I do not know how to center all DIV's at once.
    I hope you are willing to help me with this. In case you have more questions let me know.

    The answer is to not let Photoshop write either your HTML or your CSS for you.  What you show is a disaster waiting to happen, really, and is characteristic of the kind of mess produced by any wizard that writes HTML based on a graphic layout.  Use your graphics editors to produce your graphics.  Build your page in DW.  It's a much better way to go.

    Leaving your page with all absolutely positioned elements is really asking for trouble, but here's how to make them all center at once -
    Change this -
    </head>
    to this -
    <style type="text/css">
    #wrapper { width:760px; margin:0 auto;position:relative; }
    /* 760px will display on an 800px screen maximized browser window without */
    /* horizontal scrollbars. Change as needed */
    </style>
    </head>
    change this -
    <body ...>
    (the ellipsis represents any other attributes that might be mentioned in the body tag, and SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED EXPLICITLY!)
    to this -
    <body ...>
    <div id="wrapper">
    and this -
    </body>
    to this -
      <!-- /wrapper -->
    </div>
    </body>
    and see if that helps.

  • Dreamweaver Cs3 CSS Problems

    Good day, I am having problems using my new version of CS3.
    When I am working in split view, or design view for that matter,
    any css that I add to the page does not show up when designing the
    page. Whether it is inline or attached, I don't see the changes to
    the page while working on it. Is there something I need to adjust
    in my properties to make this work? I have not had this problem in
    Dreamweaver MX 2004. Any and all help would be so helpful. Thank
    you in advance.
    Rob

    Hi SnakeEyez, thank you for a prompt reply. I do not have the
    page uploaded as I just started working with it. I don't understand
    how it would be a code problem if Dreamweaver is adding the code
    for me. For example, when I add
    <style type="text/css">
    <!--
    body {
    background-color: #003333;
    -->
    </style>
    the page is still white when designing. Any ideas why this
    is? Thanks.

  • Inserted .flv into Dreamweaver messes CSS

    When I insert a Flash move (.flv) in my website (using Dreamweaver CS3) it messes upu my div boxes and all my webpage collapses. I tried to get rid of some div boxes to check if my CSS causes problems, however after inserting .flv my div boxes that contains this file shrink/collapse.
    Here are URL with the web page without inserted flash move and others URLs with inserted flash move and deleted some of div boxes.

    I am new in using CSS as well as using Flahs professional and really would appretiate any hint/idea to move me from this "dead end"
    lina

    My, but you do like JavaScript, don't you?
    I can't spend much time in the JS, but for some reason the navigation.js in http://www.k-state.edu/elp/lab/BookReviews_7.html is adding KSU_twoColumn to your body tag so that it comes out as
    <body class="KSU_fixed KSU_left1 KSU_twoColumn">
    Which results in the margin-right property of KSU_maincontent to 0 by re-writing it thusly:
    body.KSU_twoColumn div#KSU_mainContent {
      margin-right:0;
    Now, I have no idea why navigation.js doesn't do that for http://www.k-state.edu/elp/lab/BookReviews_7A.html as well. In there, your <body> stays as:
    <body class="KSU_fixed KSU_left1">
    And the KSU_maincontent properties stay as defined in the CSS:
    div#KSU_mainContent {
      margin-right:190px;
      margin-top:0;
      padding:16px 25px 20px 20px;
    I don't understand the need to complicate simple CSS with JavaScript appending the classes, but if Jeff Croft (author of the class appender function in navigation.js) is still available to you, I recommend asking him for help.

  • Dreamweaver and CSS, Java editing an exsisting website to create your own template.

    HI I am new to Dreamweaver and programming,  but I have found a website that I like create something off of, not copying but utilizing some of its div tag positions and formatting.  When I bring the source into Dreamweaver and start to edit some of the things I want to change, I receive some errors that I’m not sure of how to work around.   For example, I want to extend one of the boxes they created and when I try to change it tells me “unable to open file because it could not be found on your local disk”  You can download the file by using the remote view of the file panels or by selecting the file in the related files toolbars” I believe this file is associated with the CSS.  Basically I’m trying to learn off this website and recreate something completely different but I’m not sure how to allow access or tell Dreamweaver to recognize a CSS from my computer.  Hope you understand, let me know what you think.

    Why not leave it on the page?
    If you want to eliminate it, you could try to replace this -

    It's not suprising that deleting something like that might change the layout of the page.  A well-built web page is very much like a well-built (and intricate) rock wall. Each element of the page somehow depends on the support and presence of each other element.  Remove one and things get kinda crooked....

  • Dreamweaver CS6 - CSS Validation?

    Hello folks,
    I know we have a W3C Validation feature in Dreamweaver CS6 ( which is very nice ), but it only seems to validate HTML code.
    What about validating CSS within Dreamweaver?  I can't find this feature anywhere.
    Is there a way to validate CSS within Dreamweaver?
    Thanks!

    The issue is not with building the tool (Adobe has done similar tools in the past).
    The issue is with keeping it up to date and relevant so that it's a worthwhile inclusion in the DW toolkit and can be regularly used on a daily basis.
    CSS is evolving and updating so fast that many DW users want bleeding edge tools which are up to the minute with every latest development. Adobe cannot keep up - plus it's not their core business - and 3rd parties and online tools do the job so much better.
    Why compete? Align instead and point DW users towards reputable online tools.
    As Murray says, I'd prefer Adobe invests its engineering hours elsewhere..
    Acrually, Adobe switched to incorporating online tool for HTML validation within Dreamweaver, starting with version CS5.5, so they don't need to update anything.  They just access the online tool directly.  This is very efficient.  Now all they need is to do the same for the CSS validator.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 CSS Capacity

    Do any professionals out there have this tool yet, are the
    new CSS capabilities worth it? None of the other enhancements seem
    worth it.

    I've had every DW since DW2.
    > What's the biggest difference in the CSS support?
    1. Rendering of floated layouts
    2. Rendering of advanced CSS uses, e.g., min-width, child and
    adjacent
    sibling selectors, as well as pseudo-elements
    3. Management of CSS rules (moving/editing rules/selectors
    from the CSS
    Panel)
    4. Better integration of the CSS tools (for example, when I
    insert a div,
    and name the selector, the div is created with that ID, as is
    the rule)
    5. Moving styles from inline to stylesheet, and moving
    stylesheets from
    embedded to external
    6. Reformatting CSS rules (like code formatting)
    7. Many, many, minor usage improvements
    I use them all, too - it would be very hard for me to
    retrograde these
    capabilities.
