Dreamweaver CS4 CSS file links updating problem

Hi apologies if this question has already been asked, the
search tool does not seem to be working.
I have recently installed DW CS4. When you open a page all
the related files open too so the CSS linked file also opens
however, if i try to update the CSS file from here when i come to
save, i get a message box asking if i want to 'update links'? If i
say yes it updates all the links in my CSS file from ../images to
the full path of the images and this then creates problems with the
site. If i say no, it then tells me that my CSS file contains an
invalid path and then prompts me to 'update links?' again.
If i open the CSS file separately in DW i dont have any
problems.
This is really annoying me, if anyone can help i would be
grateful!

Thanks for your replies. I updated my Nvidia video card driver and I deleted the Cache file per the instructions in the link above. Unfortunately I'm still getting the Lockup.
It locks when I use the CSS panel for a period of time. What's odd is that the CSS panel remains active and I can edit and make changes to the CSS rules. The rest of the interface locks up. The code/design window the menu bar etc. I have to close down DW with the task manger. when I do that I get asked if I want to save the changes to the open files and the changes get saved. But the entire user interface except for the css panel is frozen. Weird.
The link above suggest deleting the entire personal configuration folder and the extension manager folder. this seems pretty sever and then it seems I would have to re-install the extensions that I have and etc. Perhaps that's what I have to do? This regular lockup is a pain. Like I said the rest of my system and other apps (fireworks, Photoshop, etc) are all rock solid. The problem is strictly with DW.

Dreamweaver CS4 Code Coloring not updating

Hi,
Recently, when trying to edit the code coloring in Dreamweaver CS4, it will not update the colors after I hit "ok." Anyone know why this might be? I've tried restarting Dreamweaver, clearing the cache, and even seeing if it would work on new documents but none of that helps. Thanks for any help!

Are you sure you're changing colors for you open document ?
I have issue with coloring too, but I thought after all this time CS5 will finally have Save option for exactly this issue. So I don't have to repeat this over and over again.

Css files not updating in localhost (XAMPP test server)

I've got an issue with a web page I'm developing where the .css files that I attach to the pages will not update on my local host. I can make a copy of the file with a different name and link it to the page. However, if I name any file a name that I've already used then the CSS reverts to whatever was on the original documents. This is making my php page testing a pain when I view the page in a browser. The problem doesn't seem to occur for my other websites, and completely goes away when I select "none" in the testing server options. I'm using XAMPP to run my localhost testing server. I'm using Dreamweaver CS4 on a Vista machine. Any ideas? If nothing else it would be nice to know how to delete the old files that are stuck in the testing server directory.

Strange thing... I turned it off and walked away for a few hours. Upon my return I found the issue resolved. I blame the shoe elves. Thanks, you little guys!

BC and Dreamweaver CS4 template file extensions

I'm building a site suing BC extension for Dreamweaver CS4, but I can't get the templates to work. If I create them in Dreamweaver with the .dwt file extension, BC doesn't recognise them when they are uploaded. If I create them in BC control panel, they get a .html file extension and Dreamweaver doesn't recognise them. This means the local files in Dreamweaver don't recognise my CSS and everything needs to be built in the BC control panel, which is painfully slow. Very frustrating. What am I doing wrong? Please tell me I don't have to add my CSS to the BC CSS!

Hi Brad. Did that at first, but the templates didn't show up in BC. I've just altered a .dwt template in Dreamweaver and uploaded it to BC, but it didn't overwrite the one that's already there.

DreamWeaver CS4 CSS code hints not working

Please help.
DreamWeaver has stopped showing code hints for CSS selector values. When I start typing "… div {border: …" DreamWeaver used to show the possible value for this selector (i.e. 1px solid #ccc). Now all that pops up is this "… 'border-width' 'border-style' 'color' …"
How can I get DreamWeaver to show the possible values for CSS? I'm running DreamWeaver CS4 on a Mac book pro with Snow Leopard. DreamWeaver was set up using the default settings, and there are no extensions enabled.

CSS files not updating correctly

I'm having some trouble with the css files that are uploaded throught the application builder. When uploading an update to an existing css file, the file is not updated in the browser. Even after closing all browser windows and deleting the temporary internet files the new version is not loaded. I've even tried deleting the file from the app builder and holding the control key down when refreshing the browser and it still loads as if one existed. We currently have 3 seperate server environments and it works fine on 2 out of the 3...could this be a setting on the application server when the file is fetched from the database? It is currently calling:
wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=721404936311769&p_fname=iPRACA.css
I know the correct file is being uploaded to the database because when I view the detailed report in the application builder and click on the file name, the updated version is displayed in the text area. But, when I click on the download icon and open the css file to view, it is still the old version.
I'm currently using APEX version 2.3 and OAS 10.1.2
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also guess it's the Oracle AS. However we should investigate further on what you're thinking.
If you query WWV_FLOW_FILE_OBJECTS$ you still see the files while you don't see them in APEX anymore? If yes, I would create another table as select of the WWV_FLOW_FILE_OBJECTS$ table, just to have a backup. If the files aren't used anymore, you should be save by deleting the corresponding old records (for ex through SQLPLUS). After all, these are files you uploaded...

Saving CSS file in DW5 problem

When in design view on an html page, when I make a change to the CSS using the Css Styles panel, the style sheet shows as unsaved (has a * next to it). When I do a Save of the html file, the css file does not save, so in order to get an accurate preview in the browser, I have to go in and save the css file separately. This is a pain. How can I make the css file save when I save the html file?

There's also a File > Save All Related Files. This will save all the files you see for that document, if you don't want to save every open file. On windows you can go Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts to change the key binding if you like.
FWIW, if you use LiveView for your preview it will load the unsaved style sheet so you can see the previews as you work. If you use "Preview in Browser" it should prompt you to either save your CSS file or will save a temp version of it depending on your user settings. Maybe these could help instead of doing save and refresh in the browser.

How to alphabetize file names in Dreamweaver CS4 files panel?

Using Dreamweaver CS4, the files in the file panel are no longer alphabetized by name as they have been in all previous versions. This is very frustrating when you have many files and have to scan with your eyes to find various files on an ongoing basis.
Does anyone know WHY the developers changed this or where I can change the preferences for this?

I feel silly . I found the answer to my problem in another thread. Clicking the 'Local Files' heading at the top of the files column changes the order. As posted by a user named Alex in another thread, with an image to illustrate where to click:

[Web] Is there a way to generate more than 1 CSS file?

Obviously using model.appearance. with AddCustomCSS lets us generate a CSS file.
I could create an AddPage file that uses maps nonCSS values into a pregenerated CSS file. The problem is that live_update doesn't handle these well.
(if someone wants to write a more indepth look at doing stuff in Live Update, that would be fine with me, not to mention Matthew Campagna and John Beardsworth)
Is there an alternative way, or are we restricted to one CSS file per model section? why do I need more than 1? iFrames. I don't want the same body values etc inside the iFrame HTML.

What would I need to add to live_update.js to have nonCSS values force a refresh?

How do I transfer or access my personal dictionary from Dreamweaver CS4 to CC CS6

I have spent years building up a personal medical dictionary in Dreamweaver CS4 and have recently updated to Creative Cloud team CS6 (and about to update again) but I can't seem to get my new version to recognise my personal dictionary (it was created via: 'Command/Check Spelling/Add to Personal)

Locate the "Personal Dictionary MX.tlx" file on your computer. You can search hidden files and folders to find this file, or browse to the directory.
Windows Vista and Windows 7:Users\[your login]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\Common.
Windows XP:Documents and Settings\[your login]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\Common.

1.Launch Dreamweaver CS6 and see what language you have the dictionary set to . Edit > Preferences > General > Spelling Dictionary > Take note of what it is set to.
2. Navigate to C:\Users\UsernameAppData\LocalLow\Adobe\Linguistics\UserDictionaries\Adobe Custom Dictionary\{locale}\added.txt
Paste the contents from the "Personal Dictionary MX.tlx" to "added.txt"

What to do with js, css files

I hope this question is appropriate for this forum because I have scratched my head for hrs. I am in the mission of finding a simple drop down menu and came across to this site http://css-tricks.com/simple-jquery-dropdowns/
It uses minimum jquery and CSS to achieve it. Looks like it is reasonable for a novice to tackle. Codes are downloaded and unzipped ( there are css,images,js). Question is how do I even get this to run under my test application ? I would think I need to import the image files but what to do with the rest of files? they are not plugin. Could any guru give me a jump start ?
Any help is appreciated.

You should be able to import them into APEX under "Shared Components - Static Files" and "Shared Components - CSS". Then you can include the files in your page template using the following html code:
for js files

<link rel="stylesheet" href="#APP_IMAGES#style.css" type="text/css" />After a quick glance, I don't think you'll need the image they have included.

Where can I download Dreamweaver CS4 Student Edition?

I´m already registered with my valid Licence key. But now I have to install Dreamweaver CS4 (Student Edition) on my new computer and I can´t find my installation CD´s.
Can anybody help me?
I already tried to install the "normal" Dreamweaver CS4 installation files. But finally my Student Licence key was always rejected.

Dreamweaver CS4 - Update Template Files dialog box doesn't appear

I've just made a small change to my website's template file in Dreamweaver CS4, but I can't figure out how to apply the change to all pages on my site.
As I understand it, a dialog box is supposed to appear immediately after you hit 'Save'. This gives you 'Update' or 'Don't Update' options.
The box does not appear for me. No idea why - I saved the revised template and nothing happened!
Is there another way of updating the webpage files with the revised template? Or can it only be done though the dialog box? If so, how can I bring the box up?

Well, I'm not sure what rule I've broken. I followed the procedure set out in that tutorial to make my template in the first place, although I used Janine Warner's book 'Teach yourself Dreamweaver CS4' which goes through the same steps as the web tutorial - with the exception of the 'Apply your Dreamweaver template' section, which seems to suggest that you create your web pages first, and turn them into templates later.
I simply created my basic page layout, saved it as a template, and then created every page on my site by clicking 'New from template'. No problems, everything worked well.
I don't see why it would be necessary to create a new page from a template, and then apply the template to the page. Doesn't that amount to using two different methods to do the same thing twice? In any case, there's nothing in the book about 'Applying' a template, so I didn't do it. That's the only point of difference. But is it the problem? Is the book wrong?
Now I've got the book open in front of me at page 196 - 'Edit a template to update web pages created with it'. Interestingly, I may have discovered why it was not possible to edit my link in the Property Inspector.
The book remarks, more or less as an afterthought tacked on to the end of the page, that in order to use the Property Inspector to edit a template, I must first click on the element I wish to edit and then click 'Modify', 'Templates', and 'Make Attribute Editable'. Only then can changes be made.
The book says nothing about editing elements *without* using the Property Inspector, as I attempted when I tried the 'Insert Hyperlink' method, so I'm not sure whether this is possible or not. As it didn't work for me, I'd say not - but it would be nice if the book was specific on this point!
It's amazing how vague some of these tutorials can be - and also rather baffling that they can differ so much from each other. Website construction is all about specifics after all - everything is either 100% right, or 100% wrong. There shouldn't be any room for fuzziness. As it seems I have a specific problem, it must come from a specific, identifiable cause. It should be possible to say, "Ah, now if THAT is going wrong, the error must be HERE. Fix it by doing THIS."
Well, I'll try making the attributes of my elements editable now. I'm not sure if a text link counts as an element (that's another point on which my book is a little vague), but I dare say I'll find out shortly!

Are all of your pages that are linked to this on the same directory level?
The ../../ in front of every link means "go up two directory levels". If there are no pages, or if some of the pages are not at that directory level, the links would be going to nothing.
I don't use library items myself, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but the "bad path" in your error report leads me to think some of those paths (since they're the only ones in the code) could be pointing to the wrong locations.
My response will also bump your question back to the top of the pile. Maybe someone else will have a good idea of what's actually happening.

Css copy paste problem still a problem in Dreamweaver CS4

Hi all, I know this one has been discussed before, but this is still a major usability issues with the product with no practical solution available.
For some reason no one seems to be able to mark http://forums.adobe.com/thread/209290?start=50&tstart=0 as unanswered, yet numerous posts stating it isn't resolved.
Therefore, I'm starting this request to see if there is a solution.
For those of you unaware, the issue affects Dreamweaver CS4 code view. After editing in code view (usually with CSS files though others have reported other code types) for a little while (sometimes within seconds, sometimes after many minutes of use) and then when you copy (Ctrl-C) the application selects all text and copies that. Usability wise, you've just lost your place in the code (which you may have spent some time finding in a complex file) and what you wanted to copy is not what's in the clipboard. So frustrating.
The issue is similarly repeated with pasting (i.e. you select some text or a place to paste and the system selects all before pasting from clipboard).
So does anyone know of a patch to fix this yet?
