All links in a template file must be correct based on the
location of the
Template file. DW will manage them for you when you spawn
child pages.

I have made I new site... www.tresfjording.com
It's all in Norwegian, but it seems to work fine in MSIE7
But in my Dreamweaver's design window it's a mess.
In fact it shows just parts of the page and even that is
garbled...
Have installed WampServer to view the PHP pages hoping for a
miracle, but
that didn't work at all.
I am left with my own messy code to edit pages, and frankly
that's a kind of
a eternal try and error process for me...
I need my WYSIWYG back, without getting rid of the two lines
of PHP in each
page. Once including the left column data, and the other the
right column
data.
Is there a solution in upgrading to CS3?
Or is there another closer and cheaper solution?

As Alan asked, is the page using includes? It appears to be
using php
includes.
The home page is:
http://www.tresfjording.com/index.php
If you just opened the same index.php file in notepad that
you open in DW,
you wouldn't see the additional tags and doctypes.
But if you view the page in IE, and "view source", you'll see
them. The
includes are added server side and output to the browser.
Can you paste the code from one of the include pages?

Dreamweaver crashed by opening a PHP-File

Since two days I can't oen any php-Files. If I will open a File with the extension .php Dreamweaver crashed. What can I do? I search for a soluten now more then one day.

If you are using MAC os then go to : "/Users/Your User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe" and rename the Dreamweaver folder to old_Dreamweaver_(version)
and if you are windows then go to : "C:\Users\(Your User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe" and rename the Dreamweaver folder to Old_Dreamweaver_(version)

Created a pdf from a word-file and inserted formfields. The fields works in other pdf-readers(nitro,reader etc), but not in adobe reader and acrobat. Please help.

I have created a pdf from a word-file and inserted formfields for a work related file. I've used nitro pro to create the formfield. They works in nitro, reader, foxit etc. but not adobe reader. From page 3 and out, the font wont show when writing in a formfield. Some formfield doesnt even show.
Please help me fix this (hopefully before the presentation at work friday) :-)

Dreamweaver MX 2004 - "An Unidentifed Error has occorred." - Please help!!

Hi folks. I have scoured the internet for a fix to this problem. Most of the posts I read are unanswered or the solution does not work. I am hoping a guru reads mine and has the magic answer - I am ready to chuck the project altogether if I can't find a solution. Although I am not a newbie to simple page design, I have never really tackled data access (dynamic content) before, like I am about to. I am ready and willing to learn but this obstacle may hinder my interest if it is going to be this big a pain in the keester.
Let's start with my system config:
Windows XP Pro w/ SP3
Dreamweaver MX 2004
IIS 5.1 - configured with FTP support
PHP 5.2.11
MySQL 5.0 - For now I am using the Test DB that comes with MySQL. Using "root" account.
I have verified that all is running properly to the best of my knowledge. Certainly Dreamweaver up until this issue has worked for years. I have not used DW for data access before on this machine but have successfully on others.
IIS > Loads web content from http://localhost just fine. Including PHP test page. And IIS help stuff that comes pre-installed.
MySQL > I can build DB's and Schemas just fine. I can even import data from external sources so I have to assume it's running fine.
Dreamweaver > The site I am building has the following config:

SO HERE IS WHAT IS HAPPENING:
When I go to make a data connection (Step 4 under the Database tab of Applications section in DW), I click the "+" button and select "MySQL Connection". The dialogue window appears and I input:
Connection Name: medimj
MySql Server: localhost
User Name: root
Password: <password>
I click "Select" button and get an error window that says "An Unidentified error has occurred." and I am taken back to the MySQL Connection dialogue box. I have tried adding http:, slashes, \medimj, IP address, and pipe name to the Server name to make the connection and none of it works. If I put a DB name and click "ok" the binding will appear but no table ever come into view. If I click on "Test" I get the same error.
Here is the mysql area of the test.php. From what I see, I should be able to make a connection; but I'm not expert. Should I be seeing more information?:

I would like to share with everyone a fix for this problem. I wish I could say I found it here but I did not. After continuing to search the Internet, while eagerly awaiting an answer here, I stumbled upon the answer deep in a thread in the MySQL website forums.
If someone should find this topic before the supposed Adobe fix, please do not waste your time with what Adobe suggests. It has been know cause more problems than help - as was the case with me. Applying their "fix" forced me to reinstall MySQL and a fresh version of PHP. I am also providing OS information and versions of all components I am using as well as settings within Dreamweaver. I cannot speak as to whether this fix transitions across other versions of Dreamweaver but it's worth looking at if yours does not match mine.
NOTE: ALWAYS MAKE A RECORD OF WHAT YOU CHANGE. THIS IS BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING AND WILL MINIMIZE THE NEED TO REINSTALL IF THINGS GET WORSE. BEING ABLE TO REVERSE WHAT YOU'VE CHANGED IS IMPORTANT.
System Info
OS: Windows XP Pro w/ SP3 (patched to the hilt)
IIS: 5.1 (installed from XP Pro CD - additional windows components)
PHP: v5.2.11 (installer version)
MySQL: v5.0.87 (installer version)
Dreamweaver: MX 2004
Install IIS, PHP, and MySQL per their individual instructions.
IIS Tweaks
Note: This tweak assumes you haven't already created your website virtual directory under IIS. If you have, you can delete it and follow these steps. You don't have to but I like this recommendation I found on another site as it tricks DW into thinking its attaching to an "outside" server. You'll see what I mean when you see the DW confg options later in this topic.
1. Create a folder under c:\inetpub\wwwroot that matches the local folder in DW for the site you are designing. Make sure they are spelled the same. If you have pages and images already in your local folder for DW, you don't have to re-create them here. You can sync them to the "server" much like you would when you FTP your pages up to a live server. Just make sure the root folders are named the same.
2. Right click your localhost site select "properties". Click the "Home Directory" tab. Click on the "Configuration" button. Under "Application Mappings", click the "Add" button. A new dialogue box appears > In the "Executable" area, browse to the root PHP folder and select file "php5isapi.dll" and click ok to return to the dialogue box. In the "Extension" box type ".php" without the quotes. Make sure "Script Engine" and "Check that file exists" are checked. Click ok.
NOTE: A DIALOGUE BOX MAY APPEAR ASKING IF YOU WANT TO PROPOGATE THE CHANGES ACROSS ALL OTHER SITES. YOU CAN SAY YES BUT IT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK. (IT'S AN IIS THING) TO SEE IF IT DID, CHECK THE PROPERTIES OF YOUR VIRTUAL DIRECTORY AND FOLLOW STEP TWO IF YOU DON'T SEE THE PHP MAPPING THERE.
PHP Tweaks
1. extension_dir = c:\php\ext ~ change folder to match your install
2. cgi.force_redirect = 0 ~ required for IIS
3. register_globals = On
4. register_long_arrays = On
5. extension=php_mysql.dll ~ removed the ;
6. extension=php_mysqli.dll ~ removed the ;
7. include_path = "."
8. mysql.default_host = localhost
9. mysql.default_port = 3306
**NOTE: IF I DIDN'T PUT QUOTES - NEITHER SHOULD YOU.
10. Save and Close
copy the file libmysql.dll
to c:\windows & c:\windows\system32 ~ this file is in the root of PHP 5 folder
XP Environment Variables: Add the following at the end of Paths> c:\<php folder>;c:\<php folder>\ext ~ change php folder for your install
NOTE: ANY CHANGES TO ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE SYSTEM PROBLEMS IF NOT DONE CORRECTLY. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A ";" AT THE END OF THE PATH BEFORE YOU ADD THE CHANGES.
REBOOT!!!! THESE CHANGES WILL NOT TAKE EFFECT UNTIL YOU DO SO.
DW - edit current site or create it new
Local Info:
Should be left however you have it now OR if creating new, just do it like you always have.
Remote Info:
Access : Local/Network
Remote Folder: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\<your virtual directory>
* Check Refresh Automatically

** I don't make changes to anything else under site editing so I stop there. Click OK and you're done.
At this point, you should see under the "Application" section on the "Database" tab, steps 1,2,3 checked. Now create a connection by clicking the "+" button. Enter the following:
Connection Name: <whatever you want>
MySQL Server: localhost
User Name: root (or another account you have created with sufficient privileges)
Password:
Database: enter a DB name you wish to connect to or click select if you wish to browse for it.
You shouldn't get the "Unidentified Error..." message anymore. I know I don't.
I hope this helps the next poor sap this happens to. I'm sorry for the long post but I hate, hate, hate, when people post half assed instructions because they are too lazy to type.

How do I compensate for only one ADDT ' tNG_config.inc.php file with many Registration pages to build?

My dynamic site has a lot of different languages funneled into one website, using various cookies, url params, php includes, etc. all to obtain similar info in different languages. Thank you David Powers.
It is working really well and now I’ve come to the Registration section. Okay, so registration isn’t all that hard; I could do most of it with the standard Dreamweaver set of tools. Alas, I really like much of what ADDT has to offer with welcome email messages and activation and such.
Here’s the setup: Obviously, with many different language people, I have many different databases for them. I did that becuase we’re expecting a big audience and I really don’t want to have all those different language names in the same table. Furthermore, these tables, whereby the students will login, will also contain a lot of information about their work so again, don’t want to have one massive table. I’ve divvied them up into tables by language and I’m using those tables to keep track of them and their work.
I want to use ADDT’s User Registration Wizard and I have looked at all the neat stuff in the Control Panel/Login Settings.
Here’s my situation: I notice that when I’m done with the configuring of one of the registration pages, I’m asked if I want to upload the tNG_config.inc.php page and that it has changed since the last upload. I saved a copy of the _config.inc.php and did a new registration form with the same info and when done, I compared the two _config.inc.php files. As one would guess, there is a small difference in the Connection string to the databases $tNG_login_config["connexction"] = "connString_Ital_db".
My problem is that I have 13 of these registration pages to do but ADDT only has the one tNG_config.inc.php. That’ll work great for the one with which it is associated, but the others will obviously break. I’ve looked through the code in the Registration pages, to find the ADDT link to the tNG_config.inc.php file hoping to rename it Italian, Spanish, etc, but the name of the file does not appear in the Registration page. I realize that ADDT Control panel is designed for use on one site, and can then be used on others, with the changes etc. But my site seems a little unique since so many sites are actually in one.
Has anyone whipped this problem before? I just don’t understand why there is no link in the head code of the Registration page to let me change it and to create more config files with different names. Thanks for you help!

I just tried to check all of ADDT´s "includes" files for any internal references (read: "require" or "require_once" statements) to the file "tNG_config.inc.php". So far I can only see this file referenced in the file "tNG.inc.php" (within the "$KT_tNG_uploadFileList1" array).
So what could this mean ? Maybe you´ll have to make copies of the the original "tNG.inc.php" as well and save them as, say, "tNG.inc_ital.php" file plus make sure that these copies internally point to a different "tNG_config_ital.inc.php" file -- because it´s always the first mentioned file which gets referenced from e.g. an ADDT login page (see the "Load the tNG classes" - part)
I want to use ADDT’s User Registration Wizard and I have looked at all the neat stuff in the Control Panel/Login Settings
The Control Panel will always update the main "tNG_config.inc.php" file, so any further modifications will have to become manually applied to the custom files you´re creating.

Firefox keeps asking me to open/download PHP file when it used to be able to display properly.

I use to be able to view local PHP files normally in Firefox with the PHP parts not rendered while the HTML parts are. Now all it does is ask whether I want to open or save it.
I've tried editing FF options so that it previews in FF but it doesn't accept any changes. I've cleared my cache and all that. I've tried deleting the mimeTypes.rdf file thing but I can't even find the folder it's in. I've tried disabling/enabling "prompts.tab_modal.enabled" in about:config and restarting FF.
All are no-go solutions.
Web PHP pages are loading properly, this problem only comes when I'm trying to load local PHP files. I don't want to install XAMPP or PHP on my computer just to view local files as I never had this problem before.
In the meantime, I've installed Chrome and it's loading a simple local PHP file just fine whereas FF is asking me to save/download when opening the SAME file. Thanks in advance for any help.

Also, on a somewhat related note, I cannot view mozillazine.org and any sub-domains under it in any browsers. This may be happening to other users as well?
It's always stuck at "Waiting for ..." or "Connecting to ..." and that's it. Then FF gives up with a "Server connection time-out" notice. Clearing cache and all that doesn't work because I was trying to view those pages before starting this topic.

Safari doesn't open PHP files

If i try to open a PHP file in safari, it shows the code. If the PHP file isn't local, for example, on a local website (using air sharing on my ipod touch and adding php files to it), it will download the file. If I open it there, it will only display the codes like it does on the original file on my mac. I'm trying to use wordpress but it doesn't work. Once I think i saw some of the page working (it was the login page and it was PHP). But i've tried everything i could do but it never worked again. Please help me! Thanks!

You don't open PHP files in Safari.
Safari doesn't know how to run PHP code so it just displays the file content.
You need to run them under a web server - the web server runs the code and outputs the appropriate content.
By default, on Mac OS X you start up the built-in web server (System Preferences -> Sharing -> Personal Web Sharing) and should place the files in /Library/WebServer/Documents/
You then access them in Safari via something like:
http://localhost/my.php

How to include .php file in .shtml using SSI

I've just finished with my "Contact Us form" for my website and have some issues with running it. I have a .shtml file http://mydomain.com/contact-us.shtml in wich I'd like to include a contact us form file http://mydomain.com/includes/ContactUs.php. Now, having my web page "contact-us" as a *.shtml file with ContactUs.php file included, I can run the form but I can't send any emails. If I would change contact-us.shtml in contact-us.php the form runs perfect but, I can't use other includes on that file as logo, header, footer etc. How could I include an .php file in a .shtml file and runing both the included .php script and includes themself?

Keep it simple.
Your html file uses syntax like "" to include an SSI file. Your server requires either (1) that the html file have the .shtml extension or (2) you twiddle with an .htaccess file to cause the server to parse ALL html files for SSIs. The latter is generally not a good idea.
PHP files are already processed on the server. You include SSI files the same way, but the syntax is a little different: "<?php include (".header"); ?> ".

Why can't I find contents in eg. .php files?

If I press "Apple+F" in Finder to bring up the search dialog, and try to search files where "Name contains .php" and "Contents whatever", Finder show me the .php files in the folder when specifying the first criteria, but as soon as I start typing a text to search for in "Contents" all the .php files disappear again even though the search text is found in some of the .php files.
I tried creating a simple text file and copied it to test.php, test.css, test.html, test.xml and test.whatever. Search for contents works fine for the files with extension .html, .xml and .whatever, but for .css and .php it doesn't work.
Can somebody please explain to me why Finder behaves different with different extensions, and if there is a way I can make it search for contents in .php files?

The content part of the Spotlight data base depends on there being mdimport plug-ins for that type of content. If there is no mdimporter then the content is not indexed, and there isn't one for either php or css files. See the link in this thread:

If the hacking business doesn't appeal to you the only other work around I can think of is to save a copy of the php and css files with a .txt extension, which is content indexed.

How did I receive a letter starting with "Dear (my name)" in a .php file? And how do I read the rest of the letter

I was scrolling through the internet when my mac started to download a .php file. I tried to open it with TextEdit but it shows nothing and says "ad.php - Locked".
I can see that in the downloads icon in the dock that it begins with Dear Kevin, which is my name so I would like help reading it in case it is important

Just as an fyi. a PHP file is a sever based file. You should never see a php file because the web server should automatically convert the information into html coding. That is the whole point of a php code. Unless you are a web developer with access to the hosting server, you should never see the php files. Php files are just one of the many type of sever based codes that can be used to create dynamic web sites that can change based on certain conditions. The fact that you downloaded a php file tells me that either the php sever on the site was broken or more likely the ad.php code that you downloaded was not properly coded.
As leroydouglas said you can use a text editor such as TextWrangler or text pad to view to the file but what you should see would be a bunch of text surrounded with a less than symbol (<) followed by ?php and ending with ? and the greater than symbol (>). The code can not run on a non-server system such as a desktop or laptop. Seeing how it says ad.php its probably just a piece of code that was meant to display on ad on whatever site you were visiting.

Provided you have BOTH PDF Pack and Home Publisher 2000. Only someone with the original software can open the file for conversion.

Why does Firefox repeatedly open new tabs when I open a .php file?

I do web development and design. I've just set up my PC (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) and installed my choice of software.
On the .php files I set Firefox as the default software to open with but now it opens about 50 odd tabs in the space of 3 seconds. How do I fix this?

You've hit a bug that happens when you set Firefox as the external "helper" application used to open a type of file (the "Warning!" paragraph [http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions#Setting_an_automatic_action here] links to the related bug reports, if you're interested).
