DTM for Mac OS 10.6 is a complete failure

I have been searching for a fix to this problem since April, when I upgraded my Mac to a MacBook Pro and my BB to a Curve 9300. I downloaded DTM to handle transferring data to the 9300, it worked >once< and has categorically refused to link to my 9300 ever since. I get a "failure to recognize DFTP version" failure... whatever that is (I can't even find a decent explanation for that exception). I used a PC with Vista Home to run the Windows version and load the 9300, but I am sick of not being able to sync the basics (calendar, addresses, files etc.) with my own gear. I have combed the knowledge bases and the web trying to find a clue, but to no avail. None of the standard fixes (hard reboot of BB, reinstall DTM, trash preference files) have worked.
This is completely unacceptable. Once I am sure I can find the iPhone apps to do the work that the BB has done now for years for me, I will get an iPhone and be done with all this nonsense. It is a pity, because as a phone I like the 9300 very much. The inability to sync with a Mac is a major liability for me. I know the Apple crowd is still a minority, but surely RIM's programmers can do a better job than this.

The Wanscam site says:

  • DTM for Mac and Tour OS 5.0

I've been using a BB for 12 years but most of that time with DTM for Windows (until I saw the Mac light three years ago).  Since the BB DTM, (aside from the fact we Mac folks get very little RIM love), after I updated my Tour to the "official" Verizon OS 5.0.591 I'm having all kinds of Calendar sync problems between iCal and my BB.  None of these problems existed with OS 4.7.x so I have to put the blame on OS 5.0 or else the fact that RIM hasn't updated DTM for Mac to work properly with OS 5.0.
    1.  if I force a sync of all iCal events to the BB everything is fine.  But the first time I do a normal sync without forcing the iCal events to override those on the BB, then I get the notification that a bezillion events will be modified in iCal.  The modifications always have to do with the sound, alarm, or time of the alarm.  I obviously don't let them happen.  Additionally, all the notification reminders are stripped from the events on the BB.  If force a sync and override everything on the device, then immediately do a normal sync, I should not have any changes on either side.
    2.  Not actually off-topic but while I'm at it, why do events that show me as BUSY in iCal show up as FREE on the BB?
    3.  I already know of the issue where I need to have all events reminders in iCal set to "Message" because if I set them to "Message with Sound" the reminder doesn't show up properly on the BB.  But why?  Isn't this rather basic?
All in all, while the DTM for Mac is at least something, it's still light years behind what Windows has, and these latest problems with the Calendar sync are very frustrating.  People wonder why folks move to the inferior iPhone...it's pretty simple...it's always in sync with the Mac...period!  Thanks for any light that can be shed on this calendar issue.

The upgraded OS you installed removed the lock icon from the screen, until you set a password on the device, and then the lock icon will return.
Otherwise, have you tried using the top edge left button on the device?

  • Bold Sync and Update Issues With DTM For Mac

First problem: I cannot update software on my Bold. Once I click on "Start Update", the process starts, but stops at "Downloading 5... Files". It then stops, and a dialog box with the following message pops up
<Blackberry Desktop Manager could not download the required files. There may be a problem with your network connection or the server is not responding. Please try again later> This is followed by:
< Blackberry Desktop Manager failed to update your Blackberry device>
Second problem: Syncing will not work as well. Upon syncing Calendar (iCal), I get the error message <A sync error has occured. Please retry the sync.>
    Phone Data
    Make: Bold 9000
    Software: 4.6.0
    Mac
Make: White Macbook 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    OS: 10.6.1 (Snow Leopard)
DTM was latest version (1.0) of DTM for Mac
I had PocketMac, Missing sync and the Beta of DTM for Mac installed. I have tried removing ALL components of these 3 apps, from all libraries and restarted my Mac ~6-7 times, but to no avail. It's getting very frustrating. Can anyone help?
PS I wish RIM would dedicate more resources to making it work between our Macs and our Berries. It's like having a pet that can't get along with your wife, one's gotta go!

Update: I've managed to get around the sync problems, have synced add book and iCal. Haven't tried notes and tasks, am hopeful it will work. However, updates still don't work! It goes to download 600+ files, and then the same error message still appears. Can anyone help? Hopefully someone from RIM!
As well, when un-installing BDTM-Mac, does anyone else get the same problem of getting a dialog box that says that uninstall was unsuccessful and that certain components could not be deleted?
As a sidenote, just to give your (emilianne) idea a shot, I re-installed missing sync and pocket mac, then used app zapper. Seems like I'm more thorough than the app. =\ Now I still get that dialog box from BDTM-Mac installer that says prior versions of syncing software were found. Geez. Previously when I did a manual wipe, didn't have that problem. Oh well... not a BB issue so not important.

  • Has anyone had any consistent success using DTM for Mac's??????

If you did - share how.
I have read for hours, tried so many things and still no success. Once in a blue moon - maybe.
I love my Storm, but at times when DTM deletes all my info - it may end up in the trash.
I'm looking for a simple straight forward way to get this to work.
All I need to sync is iCal.
If Verizon had the iphone - I would switch in a minute - I bet that would sync without issue.
    Bryan

I also had Missing Sync on my Mac, but I uninstalled it before installing BB DM for Mac. When BB DM 1.0.2 came out, the old DM uninstaller failed, so I used a 3rd party app to uninstall it before installing the update.
I was able to successfully update the BB OS using the first version of DM for Mac.
Nevertheless, I've had extremely frustrating problems. (iCal events duplicated, items created or changed on BB not getting synced, calendar items and memos erased during sync, etc.)
I have BusySync installed so that iCal syncs with Google Calendar. Would that cause a problem? If so, then BB DM for Mac is absolutely unusable for my purposes.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

  • Unable to install BB DTM for Mac

I'm running Mac OS 10.6.8 on a Mac Mini. I'm trying to install BlackBerry Desktop Software v2.1.0.24 (bundle 21). After i click the green icon for "install" in the window that opens when the downloaded install disk mounts, nothing happens. Having installed this same software package at home, I know that usually the installer makes you pick a country and OK all the usual disclaimers before installing, but this just sits there. I don't get anything, and nothing gets installed. I downloaded again, trashed all the previous BB preference and library files, nothing seems to work. When i plug the phone in, nothing happens at all, and there's no indication of any blackberry software on my hard drive. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this, if there are any known issues or software conflicts. This is not a particularly complex setup, and I have very few programs on the Mini that I use. Very frustrating.

No way around it.  You must upgrade to Office 2011.

  • DTM for Mac iCal sync issue

Ok download went well. upgrade os went well.  first sync went well....until.....I realized that my calendars were all now merged.
Background: in ical I have 4 calendars created: work, home, wife's, gmail.  all color coded for ease of understanding.
DTM sees the calendars and their names prior to sync.  They are actually still color coded at this time.
Issue:  when the calendars sync all calendars "merge" in to one "gmail" calendar and that's all.   When I look at the preferences on the BB it now has 6 calendars (none from ical named) one for each email address I have on the bb.  ie. [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]  and so on.
Why and how can this be corrected?
I can honestly say that google sync worked WAY better than this piece of crap released.

Desktop manager will only sync the default calendar.  If they other events are not entered in to the default calendar they will not sync.  They will stay on your device though.
If you want you can "move" them to the default.   Then they will sync to ical.
To move them, open the event.  hold the alt key down and type the word move.  this will bring up a pop up that asks if you want to move the event to your default calendar.  The name will pop up in the question.
Choose yes.  Then hit the back arrow (the curved arrow) and hit the discard button.
The even is now moved to your default and will sync with your ical.

  • Any news on when the DTM for the Mac will be officially launched?

Any news on when the DTM for the Mac will be officially launched by RIM. I'm using the leaked version, which works but has some bugs however I think its excellent. I suspect the Official Release will handle some of these bugs.

As a new Mac owner and a BlackBerry Storm FAN - I am looking forward to it!
I have had a Curve and now the Storm and I can't wait to learn my Mac that I recently purchased! So glad that RIM is working on this for MAC users! I use Desktop manager faithfully on my PC!  It is going to be awesome!

  • STORM-BDTM for MAC problems

    Can anyone help.
I have a BB STORM and I downloaded the new desktop manager for MAC and can't get it working.
When I try to sync it says:
The database cannot not be accessed for synchronization.
For help resolving this issue, refer to KB19454 in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager Knowledge Base.
It says this for Calendar, Contacts, Notes, and Tasks.
Nothing will sync and I can't find a 'BlackBerry Desktop Manager Knowledge Base' anywhere?
    Can anyone at BB help?
    Thanks

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thank you for your reply!
I couldn't find anything on google so well done for finding that!
I did the steps for installing what PIM applications I could find that seemed to have something to do with the tasks I was asking to sync. It works once then the same error message comes up. I then have to go to applications and press the start button again, wait for it to all finish, then I can sync once more.
Is there any specific PIM's that i need to install on my device in order to get DTM working properly. I look at that list and can't see anything that really stands out??
    Also where it says:
WorkaroundDelete the Desktop CICAL service book record and undelete it from the service book options screen.  Completing this step will set the BlackBerry Enterprise Server calendar database back to the default calendar.
Eject and disconnect the BlackBerry smartphone
On the BlackBerry Smartphone go to Options > Advanced Options
Select Service Books and select the Desktop[CICAL] service book
Produce the menu and select Delete
Produce the menu and select Undelete
Restart BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac and perform a synchronization.
I have gone to my device and there is no  Desktop[CICAL]  in Options > Advanced Options?
Any clues why that would be?
    Thanks

  • Opening animated gif in PSE 8 for Mac

I am switching from PSE for PC to PSE 8 for Mac.
I have always been able to open animated gif as layers and work with them, then resave as an updated animated gif.
WIth PSE 8 for Mac, I get a pop up that the file is animated and can only see the top frame. Any ideas on how to open up all of the frames in layers?

Do I need to enable this process for my Mac? Maybe I'm missing a plug-in or update?
I have been opening these files from others, tweeking and resaving for almost 2 years in PSE. It definitely will not shuffle the individual panels on an animated gif into the layers box.
My tweeking usually involves adjusting frame speed. Is that what you mean by 'frame rate'?
    Thank you for your help.

  • How do i add multiple lines in a cell (like a list) in Excel for MAC?

I'm trying to add multiple lines (in the form of a list) in a individual cell in Excel for MAC.  I used ALT Enter on my PC but that doesn't work on the iMac.  Does anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks!

It's been a while but I think you hold SHIFT while typing a page break (RETURN) to make a new line without shifting to another cell.
However, as Excel isn't an Apple product, I am sure you will get a faster and more current answer by using Microsoft's Office:Mac forums here:

  • SAV for Mac 9.2.7 released!

    Hey everyone,
We released SAV for Mac 9.2.7 to all home users late last week.
    This release at a glance:
    Compatible with OSX 10.6 - 10.10
    Stability and performance improvements
Updated threat engine and threat data (release notes for threat detection engine)
Provides an updated version of OpenSSL
    Fixed SophosUIServer.app crashes
Fixed streaming issues from francetv.fr website
    How to get the update?
If you're already running SAV, you should have automatically recieved the update courtesy of Sophos AutoUpdate
You can also manually trigger an update by clicking the Sophos sheild tray icon and clicking Update Now
Download a copy from our website
What about OSX 10.11 "El Capitian"?
In the last few weeks I've seen some folks asking about 10.11, which is currently available as a pre-release. At the moment, SAV 9.2.7 *should* work if SAV is already installed before you upgrade, but the install will fail if you attempt to install a fresh copy post-upgrade. That said, we'll be releasing another update for SAV prior to the official release of 10.11 "El Capitain"  which will ensure full compatibility, so at the moment we recommend upgrading with caution.
    Questions? Feedback on SAV 9.2.7?
Post it here and we'll get back to you ASAP!

    That should help you out.

  • I can no longer read any material in nook for mac. I have a macbook pro running lion. I used to be able to but something changed and i can no longer read it. any help?

I have nook for mac loaded on my macbook pro. When I try to open a book or magazine nothing happens. I`ve downloaded the nook program twice thinking it was a bad download but to no avail. Any help?

I found the following suggested fix, posted by a user on Barnes & Noble's site:
    1. Create a folder in your Applications folder, call it: NOOKforMac
Once you've done this, copy the Nook app to this folder. This should allow the app to run on the 1st or possibly second attempt to launch it.
    2. Once you're done using the app always quit it by clicking on the X (red in some cases) button of the application window (upper left hand corner)
This seems to have resolved the issue and my guess is that somehow the .dmg volume path is somewhere hard coded in the app configuration.
Elsewhere in that thread, the administrator advises calling Customer Service Team at 1-800-THE-BOOK (1-800-843-2665) and choose option 2 for Digital Support.
    Good luck.

  • Want to use my ipod for Mac @ home and PC @ work....

I have a Mac at home and have my ipod set up for the Mac I guess. So I brought the ipod to work today to hook it up to itunes here on my PC, but itunes says only Windows formatted ipods can be used and that I have to do a restore on my ipod to use it.
I thought you could use the ipod on multiple computers? I thought it didn't matter if it was set for Mac or PC because you could still use it on both.
Any help? I want to connect my ipod at work so I can get the music on this computer. Thanks!!

Windows computers cannot read the file format the iPods are in when they are formatted for Mac use. However, Macs can read the Fat32 file format that the iPods go in when they are formatted for Windows.
To use the iPod with both computers, you'll have to first restore the iPod on your Windows computer (putting the iPod into Windows format).
The only downside is if there is an iPod software update, you won't be able to install that to the iPod from the Mac, just from Windows computers.

  • How to format an external drive for mac AND pc use

i want to format my external drive so i can use it on my mac and on pc's as well. i've gathered that the MS-DOS format is the way to go. my question is this: would this create any problems for my mac then?
can i partion one part for ms-dos and part for macos extended?
    cheers
    -j-

MS-DOS format (or FAT32) will be fine for both Mac and PC. However there is a 4GB file size limit with FAT32.
You could use a dual partition, however the HFS+ partition would not be readable by the PC unless you installed the third party MacDrive.
Look at this page for more information on a dual partition drive for Mac and Windows.

  • I have an external drive - WD My Passport FOR MAC. I want to format it to work on both mac and windows. Which format do you think I should use? Will either one cause damage to the files on the hard drive?

I have an external hard drive - WD My Passport FOR MAC. I want to format it to work on both mac and windows. I also want to be able to connect it to my TV and watch movies.
I read up and I think I am supposed to use exFAT or FAT32? I also saw MS-DOS. Which format should I should use? Will any of them cause damage to the files on the hard drive?
My little memory stick uses MS-DOS and it works on both mac and windows.
Please can you just tell me a little about each and suggest which one to use.
I know how to change it once you tell me so don't waste your time writing about changing it.

Will any of them cause damage to the files on the hard drive?
WARNING: FORMATTING A DRIVE ERASES IT COMPLETELY !!
If you need to carry large files (e.g., larger than about 4GB) back and forth, you may need ExFAT. Otherwise MS-DOS works for smaller files.
The Mac can Read, but not write Windows New Technology File System (NTFS) without an add-on program such as Paragon NTFS.
