Dual 450, new AGP graphics card?

Hello,
I have a AGP graphics card I pulled from an original Dual 1.8 (8 ram slots). I am going to venture a guess that this will NOT work in a Dual G4, 450Mhz? And since I am near sure that is the case, what should I be looking for? Primary application is Photoshop, and if possible, the abiltiy for Dual monitors sometime in the future. I don't know the code name for this unit, it has a blue front cover and 2 FW 400 ports (which suprised me!). We are hoping to make it a dual boot machine with one hard drive dedicated to 9.2 and another to 10.3... I imagine that matters in terms of cards that work with 9.2?
Thanks,
Mike

You could go with the extreamly pricey new ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition (I forgot about this card in my last post btw). You can find it at OWC, http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ATI%20Technologies/100435058/ , but its not cheap, $259, but it does have 256MB VRAM. One other problem with this card, you may need to get a new powersupply which can deliver more power in order to use it, not cheap to do.
The PCI based ATI Radeon 9200, which is only $135.

  • New AGP graphics card

I have the original AGP 2x card that came with my machine, the Rage 128 Pro with a mighty 16MB of VRAM. I want to upgrade this bad boy, but also would like to spend under $100. I've read on these forums about how certain PC graphics cards do not work with Macs unless they are "flashed." The following is a local store that has some great prices (in my opinion) on AGP cards, would one of these work in my machine without "flashing" or whatever? And what is this flashing?
The site, click on video cards: http://www.enuinc.com/
    Thanks

    Hi-
To choose a card, you will need to find a 2x capable AGP Mac card, or, have a 2x capable AGP PC version card flashed- have the ROM re programmed with code for a Mac. Some cards even require physical alteration-more difficult.
You can find Radeon 9000 mac Pro cards on eBay for under $100. They are much better than the origional Rage.
If you want to try for more power on a budget, you will have to go the flashing route.
Got to strangedogs.com, and register an account. You can then view the forums to learn all you need to know, and maybe also pick up a card.

  • Hardware missing -AGP Graphics card. How can I get my FCE 4 working on the new computer? Cheers

Hi I have just upgraded my computer to Mac OSX 10.6.7 now I cant open my FCE 4. Message reads, Hardware missing -AGP Graphics card. How can I get my FCE 4 working on the new computer? Cheers

Thanks, just so I know we are talking about the same items please let me know - When you say "run Prokit" do you mean downloaded? Which I did. I dont have Prokit 4.0.1 if you are referring to that, do I need this first? Please explain what application name I am looking for if other than Prokit which is sitting in my "download folder" do I need to manually put it into the apps folder? Sorry if the questions are layman but this area is not a very strong point for me. Thanks for your help so far.

  • Final Cut Express HD & New I Mac CONFLICT - AGP graphics card error??

Not sure what to make of this. I would imagine this should be as seemless as all of the other transitions I have made with apple. I just bought a new I MAC running 10.5.2 and for some reason when I try to load Final Cut XPRESS HD 3.0, it loads just fine but when i try to launch, an error window pops up stating this software requires certain hardware or software which is missing. * AGP GRAPHICS CARD. And then proceeds to NOT launch the program.
Hmmm??? My graphics card is: ATI RADEON HD 2600 PRO. I had the first IMAC 20"(white body) and loaded the same program on that machine. It worked great.
    Thanks for any help.

If I'm not mistaken (and I could be), I think FCE 3 isn't comaptible with IntelMacs. But you may want to ask in the FCE forum - this is the FCP forum.

    You either need to either:
    1) use the following hack -
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/finalcut_pro_on_oldmacs.html
    or
    2) Upgrade to FCP 5

  • AGP Graphics cards and Final Cut Pro...?

    Hello everyone,
I just received a new computer today. Dual G5...It comes with the PCI Graphics Card. My old computer was a G5 as well but had a AGP Graphics Card. I reinstalled FCP4 today and tried to use it, but it says that the AGP Graphics card is missing. Do I need a AGP Graphics Card to run FCP4? And if so, why wouldn't the new computers come with one? I mean it seems silly that you can go and get a brand new G5 and FCP4 and not have it work. Anyone?

  • Bios not recognising AGP graphics card?

The first problem I experienced whilst building my new PC was that I could not enter the bios screen after installing the motherboard. I had a AGP card which I changed to another one without success. Lucky I had an old PCI graphics card and with this was able to see the bios on the display. This problem was repeated when I cleared the cmos jumper and also after I installed the latest bios (ver 1.30) which seams to indicate that the bios does not recognise my AGP graphics card. Can anyone confirm that the plug and play bios should see my nvidia Quadro FX3000 AGP card?
My PC has MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, A64-FX55, Nvidia Quadro FX3000, 1GB OCZ DDR ram PC3200 Platinum Dual Channel kit Rev2, Matrox RTX-100, 2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 120GB SATA

    Bigblair,
I get a continuous beep as you suggested. I checked the D-bracket diagnostic LED's and found this to mean early chipsept initialisation. I suspected the wrong ram configuration and from another post found that I had wrongly inserted the dual channel ram in slots 1 and 3 instaed of 1 and 2. By correcting this the plug and play bios can now automatically see my AGP card.
    Tiresmoke,
I had tried turning the fast writes off but that didn't work. I needed to install a PCI graphics card (default if plug and play does not work) in order to set my bios to AGP.

  • FCE can't launch AGP Graphics Card?

I've been using FCE 4.x for years. The other day, I installed Soundtrack and all of a sudden my Final cut won't open or launch. I'm getting a "Configuration Error"
"This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing."
    "AGP graphics card."
I have done nothing in regards to my OS or hardware. All I have done is install Soundtrack the other day.
    Please help...

as a final note, this is what I had to do. I used the FCE remover application from a link in a previous post, then re-installed FCE version 4.0 from DVD disk. Then, I was getting errors about my existing FCE projects being newer than the application version. I realized that I had probably downloaded an update. So, I did Software update to version 4.01 (I think). It all works great now!
Thanks for your time and advice. I should have known that by installing Soundtrack which no longer comes with FCE 4, that it's an older application but I didn't think it would have anything to do with my version of FCE. Glad you pointed me right...

  • AGP graphic card

I install FCE HD 3.0 on my Mac Book Pro and when I attempt to open the program I receive a message telling me I do not have an AGP Graphics Card. Should this card already be installed?

FCE 3.0 is NOT suitable for the new Intel Macs like your MBP.
You can UPGRADE to FCE 3.5 for $99.
FCE 3.5 is specially designed for your computer and has more improved features.
If you want to use your old FCE 3.0 you will find that it works slower than it should and there may be other problems.
If you use the "esc" key you will need to do it everytime you open FCE.
For a permanent solution you can hack FCE 3.0 like this:-
    1. Right click on the FCE icon (in the Applications folder) and select "Show Package Contents".
    2. Open the "Contents" folder and double click the "info .plist". It should open automatically in TextEdit - if it doesn't, choose TextEdit manually.
    3. Around 15 or so lines down you will see AGP. Delete it and put in PCI.
    4. Close the window and when asked if you want to save the changes, say yes.
    Ian.

  • Error message..hardware missing...agp graphics card??

Just purchased a new iMac G5. I installed Final Cut v.4. Intallation was succesful, but when I try to run it, I get the error message Missing Hardware: AGP graphics card. Shouldn't the iMac have come with a graphics card? What's going on?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Try doing a search on the Final Cut PRO forum. There is a solution to fixing the installer for the old version of FCP to run on a new G5.

  • Final Cut Express 2.0.3 and missing AGP graphic card

I had Final Cut Express 2.0.3 in my older G4 PPC Tower. But now that I've installed FCE 2.0.3 in my new iMac I get an error message telling me I need an AGP graphic card for the program to work.
    What's the deal?
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Panther

Have a read of this thread (link).
FCE 2 is a PowerPC application so you won't get great performance through Rosetta. FCE 2 is looking for AGP graphics which were standard at the time but no longer present. You should look at upgrading (link) for best performance.

  • FC Pro HD Error On Install "Requires AGP Graphics Card"

I just installed FC Pro HD on my new MacBook Pro. Updated to the latest versions. When I try to launch, I get an error message: "Configuration Error - This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing: *AGP graphics card" anyone know why it's saying this on my MacBook Pro and what the fix is? Thanks in advance

FCP HD is version 4.5 (PPC version). For IntelMacs, you'll need the Universal version; FCP 5.1. See http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade for more details on upgrading.

  • Get error msg. "Configuration error"  AGP Graphics Card

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro 17". I migrated my software from my old computer, but when I tried to open Final Cut Express HD, I got an error message saying Configuration Error "AGP Graphics Card." When I went to the support site, it indicated that I needed to download an update. I did that, but the install indicated that I was already updated and current. What can I do?

You are in the Final Cut Pro forum and find more focused help over in the FCExpress forum.
That said, usually these messages arise when you are installing an older, non-intel version of the software on an intel machine.
You can not update it, you need to purchase the upgrade to the current Universal Binary (aka intel ready) version of the software for it to run properly.
    Good luck,

Try hitting the esc key whenever you get the message.
You are probably using FCE 3.0 which was not designed to run on Intel Macs.
