Dual Axes Formatting

Post Author: jblevins
CA Forum: Charts and Graphs
I need to create a bar graph that shows quantities in each group on one axis and the percentage of total on the other axis.  I am able to do this by plotting two data series and using the dual axes option, but am encountering several formatting problems.
1) I would like two data labels, one to show the qty and one to show the %.  I am changing the format through Format Data Label => Number => Category = [Number or Percent].  This method seems to change the entire chart to % or number and not let me change per series.
2) Need to show data labels (qty & %) side by side oriented vertially outside the maximum of the bar chart.  I have tried plotting one series as a line (which I could hide later), but the data labels are illegible because they are on top of one another.  I can't seem to shift the labels so that it occurs consistently throughout the graphs.  Another option may be two plot two thin bar graphs with no space in between, but I have not found an option to control the spacing.
3) The max of each series should line up on the chart.  It seems like this should be controlled by scaling the axes appropriately.  Auto-scale does not work and this is not something that I can change manually each time the report is run.  Is there an option to have the max axes value be the max value on the graph?

Hi Ludek,
Thanks  a lot for your help and time.
Pls find the Eclipse Version and the jars used,
Please find my analysis on rendering a crystal report (2011) chart through  SDK,
è      Dual axis chart is not supported in Date Axis line /bar Chart .
è      Dual Axis is working for Bar chart.
è      Single Axis Chart - Manual Number of Division is not supported. It will work only for automatic Number of Division.
è      So far only bar chart is working fine.
è      Even we checked by recreating the report, still the axis properties is getting changed.
Please confirm if my understanding/analysis is correct of if i can handle this by adding some jar files  or s it  tool limitation through SDK.
Should i use any other Eclipse Version????
Thanks Again,
Vijay

  • Swap axes doesn't work with dual axes chart types

    Dear Colleagues,
I noticed that the function to 'swap axes' doesn't work with dual axes chart types.
This could be added as a hint to the Application Designer Guide, since it is not mentioned there.
    Thanks, Katharina

  • Base Time Unit for Axes Format on CNiGraph

I am graphing many points of data over a time of several days long. I was wondering if there is a way to format the Axes on the Graph to display a base unit of hours instead of days. It is a simple enough task to convert between days and hours, but I find that once the graph reaches the 24th hour it starts displaying time from 0. If I use Integers than the time is displayed like so, (26.75) instead of the preferred display(26:45). I could write a function to convert from decimal format to time format, but I'm not sure how to use this function when setting the format string.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you look up the FormatString Property for CWAxis in the Measurement Studio Reference, the last paragraph before “Example” is
“With ActiveX controls, the date is implemented as a floating-point value, measuring days from midnight, 30 December 1899. So, midnight, 31 December 1899, is represented by 1.0. Similarly, 6 AM, 1 January 1900, is represented by 2.25, and midnight, 29 December 1899, is -1.0. However, 6 AM, 29 December 1899, is -1.25. To interpret the time portion, take the absolute value of the fractional part of the number. Thus, 1 second equals 1 / 24 hours / 60 minutes / 60 seconds, which is 1/86400 or approximately 1.157407e-5.”
The point is that as soon as the fractional part of your value goes from about .9999942 to about .9999943 your time will roll from 23:59:59 to 00:00:00, if you are using one of the Date or Time format strings. If you want to stick with a Date or Time format string, “mm/dd/yy hh:nn:ss” might suit your needs best.
Or, you could try using a function like you suggested and display the converted time as a number. That is, once you turn 26.75 into 26.45, display 26.45 as a Number.
    I hope this helps.

  • Upgrading Early 2008 MBP to dual drive format and new OS. Should I install new drives or OS first?

Hi there. I have a Early 2008 15" MBP (4,1). Model A1260. 2.6GHz with a (almost full) 320gb 7200rpm hdd. Instead of spending thousands on a new MBP, I've decided to give my old one a makeover for a few hundred. Here's my situation:
My optical drive is dead. I'm wanting to set up a dual drive situation by adding a 240gb SSD as well as a new 750gb 7200rpm HDD for storage. I have a new optical drive with USB adapter on the way for external use.
I'm also currently running Leopord and want to upgrade my OS X. I have the install disk from Apple.
So my questions are as follows:
    1. This is my first venture into performing surgery of any kind on the computer and I'm not a professional. In a broad sense, is this too much for my 'older' computer to handle?
    2. If I'm good to go this big, should I upgrade my OS first and then switch out the drives or vice versa?
    3. This computer seems to run hot. I feel like it always has and always thought it was because of the 2.6Ghz processor. I'm looking at the WD Black Scorpio 750gb 7200rpm. Is this going to run a lot hotter than my current 300gb 7200rpm HDD? Is there a better option? I usually use it with a USB fan base.
I also just wanted to openly ask for advice in general, based on my lack of experience. Is there something else I should know before diving in?
Thanks ahead of time for taking the time to help. I grately appreciate it! I'm really looking forward to this project!

Hi, what you plan to do will indeed revive your old Mac and make it ~~  fly ~~
Before you do anything else, Backup Backup Backup, at least to Time Machine and one cloned drive BEFORE you embark on any of the above.

I have the same model (early 2008 Macbook Pro, A1260, 4,1) and currently run OS X Mavericks on my system with 2 x 1TB Seagate Hybrid hard drives in each bay. Now my computer SINGS.....¶¶•ªªº••¶¶¶
You say that your hard disk space is low and you will find that that is the biggest bottleneck for your system, so upgrading the hard disk space will make a huge diference. But you should also consider upgrading your RAM too. Some time ago I had upgraded my RAM from the factory installed 2 GB to the maximum 6GB allowed on this computer, and it has made a huge difference.
    2. If I'm good to go this big, should I upgrade my OS first and then switch out the drives or vice versa?
This step depends on what kind of system you want to set-up. Do you want a clean install, with an out of the box kind of system so that you set up all applications and settings from scratch, or do you want to maintain your old settings and apps as they are, maintaining your users and settings.
The best way to do the latter is to get an external hard drive enclosure to hold the new drive, and after erasing it and formatting it, clone your old hard drive onto it, using Carbon Copy Cloner or Superduper. But for this you will need a SSD with at least the same amount of hard disk space as your current boot drive. After the cloning operation is done, you can swap the drive out from the main enclosure and remove the Optical drive to be replaced by an Optical Bay to hold the new large capacity storage hard disk.
    3. This computer seems to run hot. I feel like it always has and always thought it was because of the 2.6Ghz processor. I'm looking at the WD Black Scorpio 750gb 7200rpm. In my opinion you do not need a 7200 RPM in your optical bay. A 5400 RPM drive will not be noticeably slower on your system, and the benefit of running this in terms of power usage and heat generation will outweigh the slower speed. Also, the Seagate Hybrid drives that I use have 8GB of Flash memory, to run frequently used apps much faster, and the speeds are excellent with lower heat generation.
To sum up, to lower your CPU temperatures, get more RAM, extra hard disk space for your boot drive and run a lower speed drive.
I also just wanted to openly ask for advice in general, based on my lack of experience. Is there something else I should know before diving in?
Since you are upgrading from Leopard to Mavericks, you will need to putchase a retail version of 10.6.3 (Snow Leopard) or above and install that before you can install Mavericks as a free upgrade. I would install that first, then upgrade to Mavericks on my old system, and only then clone the system afetr checking that it was working to my satisfaction.
BEFORE embarking on any of the above, Backup Backup Backup your current system, at least to Time Machine and one cloned drive.

  • Help with Bar & Line Chart on dual Axes

I'm attempting to build a chart with 2 series
    Series 1 is a total
Series 2 is a percent value
I want Series 1 to be a column and series 2 to be a line
    Here is what I tried
right click on the Bar that Iwant to display as line.
Select the series option and then select "Line" from the drop down.
But when I do this both series change even though they on different Axes.
    What did I miss?
    Thanks
    Steve

you should first create a line chart, then click the series and turn to 'riser'.

  • Split dual axes chart sort

    Hi All
I have a issue which seems to be a bug in CR2008.
The data should always display a certain data set in the bottom half of the chart irrespective of what employee id is for example USA should always be in the bottom graph.
Crystal Reports 2008, Xtreme Sample Database.
For example select employee id = 1 using the select expert then use the
multi-Axes tab in chart options to set up the following:
Austria Belgium Canada Italy Japan Mexico to appear on the primary
Y1 axis and USA on the secondary Y2 axis. After doing this the split
graph displays with USA in the bottom.
Now change the employee id = 9 using the select expert. The desired
outcome is that USA is still in the bottom of the split graph however
after refreshing the data USA has moved to the top. Change the employee
id = 6 now Mexico is on the bottom.
It appears that the data is not selecting on the description but
on some other key that is dynamically associated with the description.

    Hi Angel,
Can you please specify which Type of chart you are trying to use?

  • Does not appear possible to use date formatting in interactive reports

I've an interactive report displaying a column of data type = date. When populated with the result of "select (sysdate) from dual;", regardless of what data type conversion (to_char/to_date) or what time formatting is used (attempting DD-MON-YYYY HH:MIPM), the displayed time is always 12:00AM.
    Thanks!
    Paul

Can you post a small example of what you are trying to do on the hosted instance of APEX from Oracle? You are trying to get the following:
SELECT TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'DD-MON-YYYY HH:MI PM') test_col FROM DUAL to format properly?
It returns: 18-NOV-2010 09:51 PM in a one column report for me..

  • Dual DVD's not mounting in 10.3.9

I have read countless posts in which for various reasons DVD's don't mount. There is a special case where older DVD's do mount, but newer ones (dual layer format, favored by Hollywood) do not. That is my case. People are invaribly advised to invest in a new optical drive.
I was suspicious, and decided to try restarting my older eMac in 9.2. Of course it's the same drive, just being driven by different software. All DVD's mount and play fine in 9.2.
Now, I know that not everybody has the option these days of booting up in 9.2. But at least I can scientifically state that the problem has to be software, not hardware.

    Welcome to the discussions.
Maybe I can give you some information on your problem.
Many of the newer Optical Drives are in fact crippled by the Firmware. This is done because of the restrictions placed on many computers by the manufactures for copyright reasons.
Older Operating Systems were not affected by these firmware restrictions, not until the advent of all of the DVD copying, were these firmware restrictions added, to avoid Lawsuits.
DUAL LAYER technolgy can be read and copied by many of the newer Optical Drives. But as you have correctly figured out the restrictions are implamented by FIRMWARE that cripple many of these functions.
Older Commercial DVD's can be read and copied with NO problems, but as time went by the Motion Picture Industry ADDED more and more encryption and security to there DVD's to hinder the ability to copy there product.
There are of course many of the Newer Optical Drives that are known as Region Free that will allow many of the imposed restrictions to be bypassed.
There are a couple of different options, one is to use a different Player, VLC
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14738
This option only works on some DVD's
The other option is for you to Rip the DVD and re-copy it and remove all the security and encrytions, this allow it to play.

  • Getting dual axis on a graph in SSRS to align at 0

I have a graph that has 2 values that are plotted on dual axes.  Both values can be positive or negative.  Is there a way in SSRS to align the 0 point of both axes?  Preferably, I would like to retain dynamic values for the axes.
    I'm using 2008r2
    Thanks for any help.

I figured out the issue with incrementing whole numbers, and this is the solution I used.
You will need to manually set the interval value to determine the increments you want the line showing up. In my case I wanted the primary axis to show a value every 5 and the secondary axis to show a value every 5000.
Manually setting the interval will cause the primary and secondary axes to be off again. To fix this, we will need to have the same amount of intervals on both axes. For instance, if we have 6 intervals on the primary axis we will need to have 6 intervals
on the secondary axis to keep them lined up.
I wrote custom code that will be used as expressions in the Maximum setting for both axes. The purpose of the functions will be to determine which axis will have more intervals, then calculate the maximum value needed to have the same amount of intervals.
    Primary Axis Maximum Expression
    =Code.FindMaxValueForPrimary(max(Fields!PrimaryField.Value), max(Fields!SecondaryField.Value))
    Secondary Axis Maximum Expression
    =Code.FindMaxValueForSecondary(max(Fields!PrimaryField.Value), max(Fields!SecondaryField.Value))
    Custom Code
Public Function FindMaxValueForPrimary(ByVal PrimaryValue as Integer, ByVal SecondaryValue As Integer) As Integer
    IF Ceiling(SecondaryValue/5000) >= Ceiling(PrimaryValue/5) Then
    Return Ceiling(SecondaryValue/5000) * 5
    Else
    Return Ceiling(PrimaryValue/5) * 5
    End If
    End Function
Public Function FindMaxValueForSecondary(ByVal PrimaryValue as Integer, ByVal SecondaryValue As Integer) As Integer
    IF Ceiling(SecondaryValue/5000) >= Ceiling(PrimaryValue/5) Then
    Return Ceiling(SecondaryValue/5000)*5000
    Else
    Return Ceiling(PrimaryValue/5) * 5000
    End If
    End Function

  • Why Does FCE capture DV audio as dual mono instead of stereo?

FCE captures DV audio as dual mono audio files instead of a single stereo audio file. You can see this if you "Show Movie Properties" in Quicktime. Files I captured in Premiere 6 years ago have a single stereo file. The problem is that the new dual mono format for DV won't play on the Final Cut Pro 3.04 installed on my wife's G4 (OS 10.4.11, Quicktime 7.6.2). FCP 3.04 doesn't see any audio for these dual mono files though it will play the video. It won't even create an audio waveform. But FCP 3.04 plays the older stereo audio clips captured in Premiere just fine. And if I export the dual mono files out of QT as a stereo file, then FCP 3.04 will play them just fine.
This lack of backward compatibility is quite frustrating. I can't seem to find a setting in FCE that will capture audio as a single stereo file. Why isn't NTSC DV always stereo? I guess maybe they had to go dual mono to facilitate surround sound panning in 5:1 or something. If nobody knows how to do this in FCE, I guess I'll just capture in FCP 3.04. I spent the better part of a day figuring out this hidden little tidbit. The lesson is don't try to go back!! We must always accelerate forward into newer versions and formats.

The problem is in your wife's machine. She is using a version of the OS and QuickTime that are much too new for the version of the software she's using. She really not not be using an OS newer than 10.4.10 and QT should 7.2 or earlier.
Yes. I was beginning to suspect that this was at the root cause of my issue. Thanks for the info. Frankly, my wife needs to buy a new Intel iMac so we'll both be able to work on the video I'm dumping. I had FCP 3 lying around from years ago and it's the only thing that might have worked on her old G4 AGP, so I thought I'd give it a try.

  • Can my dv5 1017nr laptop burn DVD + R Dual Layer Disks?

Im just wonder if my laptop can burn  Dual Layer format!

It should be able to do it. Which burning software do you have? I know nero will do a hardware info that will tell you what the drive is capable of burning. Also you can go into device manager and get the identification of the drive and then googe it to see if you can find the specs for the drive. I googled your laptop model and some standard specs on the internet showed you have a DVD-RW DL drive that can also read Blu-Rays. Burning dual layers is a bit difficult. They always want to give out on the jump to the second layer. I make an .iso file of the source disk and burn from that. It seems to work best.

  • Dual Disc CD/DVD?

I've purchased NIN- White Teeth in Dual Disc format.
    http://www.dualdisc.com/
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DualDisc
Dual Disc is essentially a DVD which plays as a CD on one side and a DVD on the other.
Unfortunately my Powerbook won't recognize the CD side and simply self ejects after a few attempts to read it. The DVD side works perfectly.
How do I extract the CD tracks to upload into iTunes?
Has anyone else had the same problem w/ DualDisc technology?

I have to agree with macmenno on this one. I would also say that your chances of success may be better on a desktop PC with a good drive than on a desktop Mac--many Macs in general seem to have trouble coping with DualDiscs.
By the way, I can't resist commenting on the title of your DualDisc; my own copy is called With Teeth (sold in Finland as a normal audio CD), whereas yours is White Teeth. Is that the kinder, gentler version?

  • Installing mac OS X leopard 10.5 version on my ibook

i'm trying to install mac OS X leopard 10.5 version on my ibook and it's not mounting on the desk top...it tries to read the DVD disc for 2-4 seconds then spits it out.
My Mac machine is described as follows:
    1) machine name: iBook G4
    2) machine model: PowerBook 6,7
    3) running: Mac OS X Tiger version 10.4.11
    4) Processor: 1.33 GHZ
    5) PowerPC G4
    6) memory: 1.5 GB
    7) lots of hard drive memory 70 GB
ATA bus model number of DVD drive is:
    MATSHITACD-RW CW-8124
    Revision: DBOD
    Detachable drive: no
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit number: 0
    Socket type: internal
apparently this mac OS X leopard disc is a DVD dual layer format and my drive reads only DVD single layer DVD's....is this in fact true?
I thought i did my due diligence properly before buying this OS X but i guess not.
Your help, ideas and guidance is much appreciated.
    thanks and sincerely,

Is this the retail version of Mac OS X 10.5 you have?
If so, it should work. If it is a gray Install disc that came with another Mac, it won't work.

  • Syntax Coloring for PHP in HTML Files

I'd like consistent syntax color throughout my documents,

  • Is it possible to save as EPS file?

I am making a logo using a couple of different fonts - no graphics. Is it possible to save as EPS file? Or, if not - is there a way to export it to another program that will save it as EPS file?

OP - here is a thought.
First, a Photoshop PDF with transparency is acceptable for InDesign. But many people want a flattened format to place in older programs such as Quark 6, or Pagewrecker.
They often use EPS. Photoshop will outline all fonts in the EPS output. Also with EPS you do not have a dual file format, so you must save a copy. These are two fundamental differences between Photoshop EPS and Photoshop PDF.
Here is another option if you need flattened output, but you still want the PSD info wrapped in a single file.
Save as Photoshop PDF, layers checked.
Select "PDF/X-1a" preset. By the standard, choose "None", When you do this "Photoshop Editing Capabilities" should default to enabled (if not, enable it)
When you save in this fashion, you are saving a flattened PDF output with vector data for other applications, but you also retain the native Photoshop file. This file can be opened for editing in Photoshop and can also be opened for evaluation in Adobe Acrobat.
Please, please be wary of Photoshop fonts. The fonts are embedded subset in the PDF, but sometimes you encounter glyph width errors when preflighting the PDF in Acrobat.
Photoshop has vector capabilities, but these capabilities are half - baked. Each and every font glyph becomes a clipping mask for pixel data. Not an ideal construct. For some RIPS, Photoshop fonts can blow up like dynamite.
I'm not trying to discourage utilizing Photoshop vector. But if possible, set your type in InDesign or Illustrator, it's safer in the long run.
