Dual Monitor HDMI and DVI

I bought a new Mac Mini. I have a Moshi Thunderbolt to HDMI connector and an HDMI to DVI Connector. I want to use one monitor connected to the Thunderbolt and the other to the DVI. When I do this, the DVI Screen works fine but the Thunderbolt one cuts in and out.
Any ideas how to do this or do I need both to be DVI?

Sorry,
The problem above is solved for me.
With thanks to Joseph.( See discussion Mac Mini 1 feb. 2013.)

  • Dual Monitor Hook-up, DVI/VGA/HDMI?

I think it's time to retire my aging samsung 22" and buy a few 23" LED's to replace it.
My graphics card only has DVI out (x2), and the 3 monitors I'm looking at do not have dual DVI (either dual HDMI and DVI, or DVI/VGA/HDMI), so I would need adapters from DVI to HDMI/VGA. I'm guessing that's all handled at the adapter/hardware level, so linux should have no problem finding them, but if I'm hooking 1 up natively to DVI, and the other through an adapter (or both through adapters), will I notice any quality difference between the 2 monitors?

Personally I use my HDMI monitor as my main monitor and have the secondary monitor attatched to VGA. I can't really tell the difference in performance between the two, however I never work with anything terribly graphics intensive.
and it hurts to hear that my Samsung 22" is also  'aging'  of course so is my 17" secondary I guess maybe that'll be my next investment...
    Sorry about the aging comment
But this is the answer I was looking for! I don't want to have 1 monitor hooked up via HDMI and the other VGA and be able to see a noticeable difference between the 2. I don't do anything graphics intensive either.
    Thanks for all the responses!

  • HDMI and DVI port not working on 880GMA-E35

    Hello,
I want to use the HDMI port of my 880GMA-35, but the monitor is not getting a signal. I know that the board has two jumpers to switch between the DVI and the HDMI port. In the delivery state the jumper is set to HDMI, but I don't get a signal. There is also no signal, if I switch the jumper to the DVI pins. I have tested this setup which different cables (HDMI and DVI) and two different monitors.
After this test I get a guarantee replacement of the board. The new board is also not working with HDMI or DVI. The VGA port of the first board was working as supposed and I don't see any Bios settings to activate the monitor ports.
Are there any suggestions to solve my problem?
Thanks in advance and kindly regards
    Daniel

  • HELP! I have a dual monitor setup and can't use any of them for video??

    1)I have a GeForce4 MX 64MB VRAM card installed.
    2) the back is dual monitor capable, meaning it has 2 vga (CRT) ports, one on the right and an another adapted plug with a vga port on the end. ( i have no idea which type it was originaly.)
    3) I have a big dell LCD
    THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED:
the adapter plug ripped off, reveal copper thread things and is now unusable. Although saddened, I was not worried because I don't use a dual monitor anyway and I switched to the other port. BUT THE VIDEO DOESNT WORK ON THAT PORT. I can't figure it out it just doesnt load any video?
the truth is i would rather have a dvi cable set up because i assume its better.
    thank you for the help,

  • GTX 770 hdmi and dvi issue

Somehow hdmi and dvi cables cause random blackouts when not playing games. When i start playing game, it tends to blackout a few times then complete pitch black. The vga cable works. Any idea?

Yes, I initially set it up with the HDMI as the only connection, but I also tested having both DVI and HDMI connected at the same time - in this case it detects the model number of the monitor through HDMI and gives me the option for extended desktop etc - however, if I try selecting duplicate screens and then cycle through the input types on the monitor, when it gets to HDMI the screen is just black.
I'll swap the monitor with my TV when I get back home tonight and see what the results are then.
On other thing issue (probably unrelated) is I get noticeable ghosting, especially when scrolling down webpages (dark text leaves a white silhouette) - I'm using the same DVI cable and monitor that I was on XP, the only difference being the OS and the graphics card.

  • Dual monitor setup and intel help

    Hello
I am trying to set up and dual monitor setup here, with a monitor and a tv, the monitors resolution is 1680x1050, the tv's resolution is 1360x720, which results in that the desktop will have an resolution on 3040x1050.
When I try to do this with GNOME's xrandr gui, I get this:
    required virtual size does not fit available size: requested=(3040, 1050), minimum=(320, 200), maximum=(1920, 1920)
When looking in the motherboards manual, it states that each out of my graphics card can do a resolution of 1980x1080. Is the intel driver missunderstanding something? Since both the dvi and hdmi output only delivers 1360x720 and 1680x1050, 3040x1050 is only an virtual resolution.
    Any suggestions?

  • H67MA-E35 (B3) HDMI and DVI-D no output

Just did a new build consisting of:
    Mobo H67MA-E35 B3
    CPU Intel i5-2500 3.3 Ghz
    Mem 8GB DDR3 1333MHz
    Win7 64bit
I am not getting an output signal from either the HDMI or the DVI-D.  The VGA works fine.
I flashed the Mobo BIOS to E7680IMS v11.6 and installed the newest driver for the graphics on the CPU to version 8.15.10.2361
In the BIOS I have the graphics set to:
    Initiate Graphics Adapter (IGD)
    Integrated graphics share memory (128)
    DVMT memory (maximum)
    IGD multi-monitor (enabled)
Any ideas on what to do next?  Thank you

Glad you got your issue sorted out. I'm am a little confused with the explanation of your solution.
You monitor has only VGA and DVI inputs. Your mainboard has VGA, DVI, and HDMI. Correct so far?
You bought an HDMI to DVI cable, which solved your problem, but your problem was a faulty female DVI on the monitor?
How is this possible? The only way that cable would even fit is going HDMI on mainboard to DVI on monitor, but you stated the port didn't work.
Or was this all done with the new monitor after you found out the DVI port was broken on the old one?
Have you tried the old monitor on a different system to check if it's the DVI port?
The reason I ask all this is if I'm wondering if your issue was really a broken port on monitor, or the MSI display bug that is effecting so many core iX H and Z chipset boards.

  • Dual Monitor problem and an idea

Hey everyone. I use two monitors and when i have iTunes open on the primary one(the laptob monitor) i am able to scroll through my music in iTunes using my mouse wheel. However, when iTunes is opened on the other monitor, scrolling through songs with the mouse wheel doesnt work and i have to do it using the scroll bar. Other applications such as firefox scroll just fine on both monitors. Any ideas??
Also, I couldnt find anywhere to post suggestions so im just gonna do it here. I think it would be nice to be able to save playlists and then be able to load them if you ever have to reinstall itunes or there is some other issue. I know you can just put the music into categorized folders in windows explorer, but that doesnt allow you to have the same song in more than one playlist unless you copy the music file. I dont think it would be very hard to do, just save to some file that stores the file name and location of each song. then upon importing the playlist, it could scan the saved location for that file and add it to the playlist if its there, and if not it could ask you what other folder it should scan in for that song. I think this would be very beneficial for people that create many large playlists that would take hours to recreate.
    Thanks for your help,
    Adam

I assume you have installed the latest drivers for the card? I have that
card and dual monitors with no problems. By the way, go to the NVIDA
site and download the drivers, not the Sony site as some do. There was a
new version of the driver just last month.

  • Z77A-G43 No onboard VGA,HDMI and DVI, No audio

I have a Z77A-G43 with a i5-3350P processor. I connected my monitor (Iiyama) on the on-board VGA port. After installation i started up the computer. I could see the the computer was starting up on the keyboard but i did not see anything on the monitor. My monitor has two inputs, VGA and HDMI, so i tried the on-board HDMI-port. Again no picture.
Then i put in a videocard in the PCIe slot and connected the monitor on the VGA output of the videocard.
I started up the computer and now i could see the start-up on the monitor, so the monitor and VGA cable are oke.
After installation of the software i saw that there where no speakers attached. Tested the speakers on a other the computer and the are oke. So i have allso a problem with the on-board speakeroutput.
It is a new motherboard and i went back the the shop and got another motherboard, installed it and started up the computer. I got the same problems with this new motherboard as with the one i had before.
I checked all the connections seferal times and did not find anything wrong.
With a videocard i could see in the BIOS. All the connected hardware was recognized.
What could be the problem with the on-board VGA, HDMI and the on-board speakeroutput.

How far has the build progressed? Got the OS installed yet? You have to have the audio driver loaded before you get the audio to work.

  • Dual Monitor HDMI Dock for MBP Retina?

    Hello,
Just purchased a MBP 15 Retina for home and work. At my office I have 2 HDMI Monitors that I would like to continue to use. I know I can do this through the ports on the MBP, My question however is: Does anyone know of a docking station that supports 2 HDMI monitors?

    From the technical reference guide:
    http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.BINARYPORTLET/public/kb/docDisplay/resource.proc...
you can use both ports, you have to test if a dvi-d to hdmi connection will work.
Sometimes a dvi-d source can't support hdmi -if you have already one monitor, just test it.

  • Connecting Dual Monitors: HDMI & VGA to MacBook Pro (Non-Retina)?

    Whats up Apple Fam,
So i have a MacBook Pro along with a LCD TV i use as an external monitor and its connected via Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.
Now, i’d like to add an additional computer monitor, the cable coming out of it will be a VGA. Hence my question; what type of adapter will i need to accomplish my goal while achieving it at the lowest price possible?
My only concern is that the Mini DisplayPort is already being used by the LCD TV. So i’m a bit unsure what to do. Any help is appreciated. Thanks !

You could purchase 2 mini displayport to DVI adapters ($30 ea) and use the 2 Thunderbolt ports. I have one external DVI monitor connected to 1 of my Thunderbolt ports. Works great!
Sorry my mistake. You said non-Retina.

  • Problem with dual monitors - unresponsiveness and shut down

    Hello there!
I've been happily using a 2010 Mac Pro since March with a Radeon 5870 card and two Apple displays connected to the card with mini-displayport cables.
Recently, after I installed Lion, the secondary screen has been acting strangely; sometimes, while I can move my cursor without any problem on it, I can't click on anything. I click and the program, such as Apple Mail or Reason, just doesn't respond in any way. Moving the program window to the main screen solves the problem.
Moreover the secondary monitor sometimes shuts down for a second, displacing in the meantime all my windows to the main one. It always comes back instantly.
Finally, when I use Windows 7 the secondary screen isn't even recognized anymore; it stays black and windows doesn't see it.
I tried of course to unplug and reconnect both monitors a few times but the problem, which in Lion is sporadic, remains.
    Any ideas?

There ARE problems hooking up multiple DVI displays. But Mini DisplayPort displays are supposed to "just work" according to this article:
Mac Pro (Early 2009), Mac Pro (Mid 2010): Supported display configurations
The other issue some users have is not completely seating those Mini DisplayPort cables or adapters. The connector must be inserted into the jack until essentially ALL of the metal part disappears.

  • ThinkPad W530 on Windows 8 - dual monitoring flickers and resets resolution evey minute

I am not able to run presentations from my ThinkPad W530 while duplicating the monitor to a beamer. The monitor will flicker and reset its resolution every minute. I have already tried updating drivers, setting BIOS mode to discrete, using different resolutions, but nothing helped. As such, the device is useless when I would need it most importantly, to give presentations.
Thanks in advance for any help in resolving this really disturbing issue.
