Dualband AEBS and 7.4.2 - Videoplayback still stutters

I had a working mediacenter using my MBP, the "old" AEBS N, and an attached USB Airdisk whrer I'm storing my movies.
Then I replaced the AEBS with the new dualband one (the minute it came out) because of 2 iPhones in my household which constantly made a G out of my N network.
I dont know what's the problem - the dualband AEBS or the firmware but:
When I try to stream a movie or when I copy a file from the airdisk avery 3-4 minutes the transfere rate falls down to 0 MB/s and then goes back to normal instantaneously. When I'm copying a file this equals simply in a longer time that the transfere takes but if I'm watching a movie with VLC the playback stutters. This is SO annoying.
I know that I could tell VLC to buffer more video in order to "fix" this, but come on... It worked beautifully with the old AEBS and 7.3.4
I was hoping that 7.4.2 will fix this, but it doesn't.
Please apple fix this!

I actually have exactly the same issue as jmj.
After upgrade it worked, so I closed my computer. Next time I open it I have no more Internet connection. Start the utility, check the settings, everything ok, re-upload the settings .. and then I waited .. and waited .. the Express did no longer start up/crashed. So, hard reset, set-up including PPPoE from scratch, everything works, great!
Next day I open my computer, it connects to the network, AEPS shows green ... no internet connection. I unplug the ethernet/WAN connector to the fiber modem (an action that makes any healthy Express go amber) .. mine stays green. Soft reset (un-replug) leaves the device at amber, no connection is possible. So ... hard reset.
I'm currently downgrading the firmware ... hoping for a real UPgrade soon!

AFP to a default host in AEBS (and other problems with F/W 7.1.x)

Hi all -
I have a AEBS version N connecting a workgroup of several Macbooks and a Mac Mini acting as a app server/file server. This workgroup is connecting to the internet via the AEBS running WPA.
Due to the network configutation, I have 1 publically routable IP address (200.13.99.x), which the Mini needs in order to allow "outsiders" access to a database app. The other laptops can share a NAT address for normal email, web browsing etc.
After several attempts, I found the best solution was to set the AEBS Ethernet WAN manually to the public IP address (200.13.99.x), and set connection sharing to share a public IP address. Then using DHCP and NAT options, I fix and specify the MAC address of the Mini (10.0.1.2), and get the AEBS to enable a default host to be the public IP address (200.13.99.x -> 10.0.1.2).
So far, so good. To recap, the AEBS has the public IP address (everthing else has a DHCP 10.0.1.x address). When outside users need to connect to the database on the Mini, they use the same public IP that the AEBS has. It works perfectly.
NOTE: This ONLY WORKS WITH FIRMWARE 7.0. F/W 7.1 & 7.1.1 FAIL and do not allow any connections in this configuration.
My question is this: How do I enable people to connect to the Mini and mount the filesystem remotely?
If someone goes to Finder, Go, Connect to Server, then input the public IP (200.13.99.x), they attempt to mount the AEBS (which does not have any disks). How do I disable disk sharing on the AEBS and forward all AFP (disk mount) requests to the Mini (acting as Default Host)? I have attempted to Port Map Personal File Sharing, but when attempting to mount 200.13.99.x I still see the AEBS.
The fallback plan is to buy an external disk for the AEBS, but it would be nice not to have that expense.
Any thoughts appreciated!

Footnote: I have also seen a lack of stability in F/W 7.1.1. In addition to the above, I was having to restart the AEBS every week or so, and was also getting peridic connection problems to the Internet. F/W 7.0 seems fine. Hopefully these issues will be address in the next F/W release.

I don't know if you solved your 'register now' problem concerning LE7 & LE8. I suspect the error your making is trying to open up each project in it's initial program - i.e. 7 or 8. The computer sees it differently (concerning Library settings etc) and your problem will be solved (hopefully) if you open up things in the right order :
1° Open Logic EX 8.
2° Then open the old project from LE 7. This should then open in your new system of LE8.
Of course if you wish to keep working on LE7 projects in LE7 then you'll have to change between each system as you go. You should remember that in terms of programs (with the same 'name/directory') that a computer works much like a tightly packed garage - if you wish to get out your old bike you'll have to move the new one first and vice versa!!
Normally you won't be asked to register again, BUT ... remember that you have to decide if you're going to save in 8 (and so keep working in that format) or not and I imagine if you've bought an update this is certainly your idea. Of course if you now decide to close LE8 and then start clicking on files in LE7 you'll be back at square one ..... register now etc. Please also remember that LE7 projects can work in LE8 but not the other way round, so once you've opened a LE7 project and made adjustments using LE8 you can't reuse 7 - I suggest you back up all your LE7 first on external/DVD support for later/backwards adjustments or reference.
Another small point to remember is that your computer will now be saving your project a second time in a LE8 format. So at some point you should remember that you'll be using valuable HD space twice over if you just convert and save in the new format - if you see what I mean?!

Creating a second network using an AEBS and an Airport Express

Hey, I am trying to wrap my head around this and am failing miserably. I have an AEBS (802.11n, non Gigabit) and recently an Airport Express. What I am trying to do is connect the Express to the AEBS via the ethernet port and then create a separate wireless network so that I can have my 802.11n computers on a 5ghz N only network and all the other clients (G) on the second network.
For ease of transition, it would be best if the 5ghz network were the original AEBS and the 2.4ghz b/g/n network be the Airport Express. I've been through the airport utility a number of times, and am not sure which settings are correct. Do I select Bridge Mode?
I've read Manual, and additional info and still can't get this to work how I expect it to. Any help would be appreciated.

The AirPort Express (AX) should be configured to act as a bridge.

Try to force quit the app
Double tap the home button. When you see the app previews on the screen scroll sideways if needed to get the preview in question on the screen. Flick that preview up and off the screen to close the app. Single tap the home button or home screen preview to exit the mode.

A Restore first downloads a new copy of iOS to your computer. On a slow Internet connection this can take a long time. How fast is your connection? How long would you expect it to take to download 900 MB?
That's assuming nothing is interfering with the download. Some firewalls and antivirus programs will block the download or slow it down. So you should temporarily disable your security software. Security software can also block the update after the iOS download is complete.

It used to work just fine, but now whenever I receive email if I check it from my phone and delete it, it will still be on my computer. If I check it on my computer, when I get on my phone, it's still there. I'm having to go through email and delete it all, on both devices, rather than just on one.
How can I make it so that when an email is deleted from one device, it will also be deleted from the other? I don't know what I did to make it stop doing this, and I've tried several things, on both my phone and my mac, but it's about to drive me crazy!

AEBS and Lion Server DHCP

Hi All!
I have a scenario I want some input on.
1 Mac Mini Lion Server 10.7.2
1 TC 2nd Gen
x iPads
x iPhones
2 Lion clients
I want to use the Lion Server for all collaboration services, and use Profile Manager to provide central management of iOS and Lion clients, and I want to use network accounts on the server.
All is set up and working well, mail, ical, wiki, addressbook, VPN servers, profile manager settings, apart from one thing. how do I best push DNS server settings to the client to point to the server?
In the TC there are no way to set what DNS server is served to clients. That would solve my case in an instant. Now all clients get the ISPs DNS servers, or pass-through of whatever DNS server is set up on the TC.
I have 2 possible solutions:
1. Set up TC to only provide 1 DHCP address reserved for the server, and then use DHCP on the Lion Server for the internal clients. This will work as it has been tested by other users here on this forum.
2. Set the DNS server on the TC to point to the local Lion Server. I actually just came up with this idéa as I was typing.... maybe that is the answer? The inernal clients get the internal server as DNS and the server uses forwarders or roothints.
What do you think? If you have this combo, TC/AEBS and Lion Server, how did you solve it?

I actually found the solution myself. Soluton 2 does the trick brilliantly! I can't imagine why I didn't think of this before. I have searched this forum for a solution too, but this just was too easy . The Lion Server advanced admin guide didn't mention this either, even in the chapter about AEBS coexistance.

Settings>Store...tap the ID shown...sign out...sign back in with the ID you want to use.
Note: Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID used to originally obtain them. They cannot be updated using any other Apple ID other than the one they were originally obtained with.
