Dumb question but how do you know what generation iPad you have? I got mine as a gift on Xmas day 2012 but don't know how to find out what version/generation it is. Can someone help me find that info? I have looked within settings & elsewhere and I cannot find it. Thanks in advance!

But you will be compensating battery performance for that. iOS5 consumes more power than iOS4 for the fundamental reasons like its improved ease of usability and higher background process utilisation through notification centre, iMessage and various other features.
If you find that reliability in terms of battery performance is key, you may want to give it a second thought on upgrading to iOS5.

I have a brookstone case with built in keyboard. I hate it. So skip that one.
( for what it's worth, after a while you get used to the on screen keyboard and don't really need the external.)

The original iPad doesn't have cameras on it (it just has an ambient light sensor on the front for auto-brightness), the second gen has front and back cameras.

Yes. It should be 1.0. You can also check wikipedia. They list all versions including the serial number prefixes.

"iPod classic" is the name of the current 160GB iPod that uses a hard drive for storage. However, it can also refer to ANY "classic design" iPod that uses a hard drive for storage, going back to the 1st gen iPod.
If they are standard MP3 or AAC audio files (with no copy protection), and they play in iTunes, you should be able to sync them to an iPod and play them.
