Dust under screen of 3GS?

I just swapped out my 2 day old 3GS because it had a bad power connector on the bottom (it was bent inside). The apple store was great about it and just swapped it for another one. I noticed in the last few days that there is a single spec of dust under the screen (I assume that is what it is) on the replacement iphone. I have done some research on this and don't know if it is worth the hassle of taking this one back. Will they even do anything? It seems that some people have had luck with them swapping it out or they replace the screen. I also don't want to come off as being OCD as the Genius might think I have a problem because it's one spec of dust.....lol. It kind of annoys me but I know I could deal with it if I had to. I know I have one year with apple so I could always swap it out if it gets worse down the road. Other than the screen not being perfectly flush (it is barely raised on one side plus my wife's and most of my coworker's are this way), it is perfectly fine. I have an appointment with the Apple Store tomorrow morning just in case.

They'll replace it, for sure. always good service. then give it to the next person who doesn't care, like me.

  • Dead pixel or dust under screen

I purchased ipad mini at staples.ca recently and just realized the screen has small factory defect, either a dead pixel or dust under screen. Seems just passed staples.ca's refund exchange period. what can apple do?

I would bring it to your nearest apple store or AASP and have them look at it.  We can not predict what Apple may or may not do.  good luck.

  • Dust under screen of Qosmio X500

    Hi
I purchased a Qosmio X500 from Saudi Arabia in april last year and Ive brought it to india where I currently reside. Last week while randomly cleaning my screen I noticed few specks of dust within (underneath) the lcd/led panel. This does not hinder my work on the machine, nor do I face any other performance issues. but the very presence of these dust particles beneath the gorgeous 18" screen is becoming an eyesore.
I hardly take the laptop outside or use in harsh or dusty environments. I have an EMEA warranty that's valid upto April 2015 and I was planning to ship the laptop back to Saudi Arabia to get it rectified. Any suggestions on this regard would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks and Warm Regards

    Hi
I've taken my laptop to the authorised service center in Jeddah and they claim that the dust under screen is completely my fault.
The technicians say that it will cost me 1600 Saudi riyals to get the screen replaced even though its under warranty which is really unfortunate becuase the laptop has never be taken out of the office and there is hardly any dust in the room.
Iam a very careful user and in the last two years there is no a single scratch on this device.
Is there any place I can sent a mail to escalate this issue and get it rectified at least under goodwill or even if I have to pay the service charges.

  • Dust under my iPhone 3GS screen

    Hi,
I have just noticed dust under my iPhone screen. I have had this iPhone since July. Is there anything I can do because it is really starting to bother me

if you bought it new from apple or an authorized reseller, you can take it to the apple store and they can replace it for you...

  • Dust under screen... again

I've already replaced my iPhone 3G once due to dust particles starting to get under the screen. To be honest they're not overly noticeable until you're out in bright sunlight where it seems to amplify the problem.
I'm now on my second phone and after a few months the same has occurred. I feel a bit embarrassed going back to the store to get it replaced once more.
Is this something that's basically a problem with this model and something I'm going to have to live with?

This is a known issue. The phones collect dust under the glass because there is a very small gap between the glass and the LCD panel. However so small, it allows for dust to accumulate under the glass. Yes, it is ridiculous for such an otherwise well made device. With the original iPhone, this was not the case as the glass and LCD panel were fused together. With the 3G and 3GS, the design was altered so as to make replacing the glass easier and cheaper. I have a 3GS and have had the screen replaced 3 times already. If yours is still under warranty, make an appointment with the Genius Bar; they will swap out the screen while you wait. Takes about 10 minutes. If you don't live nearby to a store, give them a call. It is covered under warranty.
The good news is that for all of us who have ordered the iPhone 4, I have read that Apple has gone back to fusing the glass and LCD panel together. This means no more gap between the two and no more dust!

  • Dust under screen of E71. Do Nokia care points eve...

Ok people bit of a moan really, which I need to get off my chest. I have taken 2 handsets to a Nokia care point and both times I have just walked out p****d off. This time I had an E71. It has a load of dust under the screen in the top left corner and also dust on the camera lens. When you activate the camera there is a black smudge in the top left of the picture. To be honest I noticed the dust after the first month but managed to ignore it. It has now got very bad and realising dust was on the camera lens was the last straw. The phone is under a year old by 3 months. It is in very good condition as I look after my phones, screen protectors etc and has the latest firmware on, version 400.
Now I emailed Nokia asking the best cause of action. I got this response:
"Thank you for contacting Nokia Care.
Sorry to hear that your E71 has a dust inside the screen. As much as we want to help you have a new replacement unit, we are not authorised to do so. We strongly suggest you to send your device on our respected Nokia Care Points. Please be advised that all assessments and repair services on our products are carried out at the Nokia Care Points. A qualified technician will assess your handset and repair it.  The phone will be covered under warranty provided you have your original proof of purchase and all standard warranty conditions are met."
Note the last bit as it will be important. I took the phone today and the bloke told me there would be a £45-50 charge to have the phone cleaned, which to be honest I really don't want as I'm guessing the same will happen again a month later. I've read people having exactly the same issue on this forum. Plus there is no way I'm paying that amount of money. Didn't even ask for proof of purchase by the way.
I then took it to my mobile provider shop where it has now been sent away for free. I thought I may as well. They told me they may replace the handset, which to be honest I hope they do.
Has anyone had this level of 'help' through Nokia care points? I just think it's disgusting. What's the point of these '2 year' warranties that Nokia offer with their phones when all the Nokia care points want is money from you!!
Any way rant over. I just hope my phone doesn't come back in worse condition than what I sent it off in, since there was not a scratch on it, just a lot of dust :-/
    Ben

send it to a nokia care centre dont attempt yourself it will void warranty if this shop is an official nokia store they will send it an official nokia centre
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.
    Now using the Lumia 1520

  • Dust under screen of 3G iPhone.

Anyone else have dust getting under the screen of they're iPhone? I have a friend with a first gen iPhone and I had a first gen iPod Touch and neither of them have dust under the screen. What should I do?

    Hey Luc Lux,
Do you have a screen protector on the iPhone? If you do try removing it and cleaning the screen.
If there isn't anything covering the screen, make a reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple retail store take a look at it or call AppleCare.

  • Droid Pro - Dust under screen

I purchased the droid pro exactly two weeks ago and have already noticed dust under the screen. I'm a little unhappy about this because what will the dust be like a month or two from now. I was just wondering if the black tie protection covers this, and if it does, since BB is no longer allowed to sell the Droid Pro, what will I have to do next?

The GSBTP plan does cover malfunctions due to dust, but the issue you have would be considered cosmetic, which is not covered. You are still within the R/E period, so you could do that.

  • New iPad with dust under screen

So I just got a brand new today. Boot up the gorgeous screen, go through the setup, reach a white screen and...
Nice big old piece of dust dead center on the screen. Tried cleaning it and rubbing it to no avail.
I know Apple is usually pretty good with sending you a replacement but should I expect a long wait for my brand new iPad I received today. Should I expect to wait 2-3 weeks for a new iPad or does apple usually expedite issues like this?

I've also had way too many instances of dust under the screen. I've probably looked at at least 7 new iPads now and each one had dust under the screen (and the only that didn't have dust had a cluster of dead pixels!). After the first instance I made sure to open each new one in the Apple store and the sales associate or genius bar member with me each time agreed that there was foreign material under the screen and that I shouldn't accept the problem if it bothers me (which it does considering how much money I'm spending on the iPad). I currently don't have a new iPad because I'm sick of buying and returning them and a genius bar member suggested I wait a few weeks to see if the manufacturing is improved (he didn't have any inside knowledge suggesting Apple would be tweaking the manufacturing but just suggested it could happen if Apple discovers that dust under the screen is an issue).
All of my issues were with the 64gb Verizon model. Are people experiencing dust problems with other models as well?

  • Dead pixels and dust under screen of 4 new iPads

I own 2 iPhones and finally decided to buy an iPad, actually 2, one for myself and one for my fiancé. On launch night we purchased a 16gb black wifi model at our local Walmart. After about and hour so, we noticed the screen had 2 dead pixels. So we returned it for a refund and went to our local BestBuy today and purchased two black 16gb wifi models. They both had dead pixels or dust under the screen. So we returned to BestBuy and showed it to multiple employees and the store manager. While on my way back to the store I called the Apple support number to report the issue. The Apple guy said it was probably a bad batch.
We ended up getting 2 16gb white models. I am using one now to type this message. It's screen is flawless. Unfortunately, the other white iPad has two dead pixels. So I am returning to BestBuy in the morning to exchange the white one for another.
I didn't think it was possible to have this much bad luck with a product. I am still a huge Apple fan and will continue to purchase Apple products. It must be Samsung's quality control. At least I have one flawless iPad. If I have to pay $200 extra to get a flawless 64GB model I will.
Anyone else have any issues with the screen on the new iPad?

Well I had an issue as well with the New iPad screen. The first had dust under the screen took it back upgraded to a Verizon model at an apple store. I made  the mistake not checking it before I drove 50 miles back home. Got home same issue!!! Now i was off to apple store again to have it replaced which they did. This time I opened it in the store sure enough another one with dust or dead pixels on the screen. It  was very clear on a white background. They swapped it again now this is my fourth New iPad checked it out again and it was 100 percent perfect for now which it should be NEW.

I dont pretend to know everything like some people on these boards i am just trying to help. Its not all about the kudos.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    this is easy.
If you purchased it with a subscription: call your provider, say the phone doesnt work like its suppose to be. and mention that the screen stops workin at random times
They will probabbly send you an envelope so you can send your phone away to be "repaired".
THe factory will update your phone (they wont even look at itm they just conenct it to a computer with dozens of phone connected to it,
    and they will update it.
Then they will see your comment that the screen stops randomly, so they will disconencty the screen, test the screen, finds out it works great. They will clean it and send it back to you.
You will get a new enveloppe with your phone and a report that they updated your phone, checked your screen and didnt find anything off. But if it happens again you can always call the customer service of your provider.
If you purchased it locally, just do they same (without the envelope ofcourse,) but they may charge a buck of 20 because of the effortm large providers dont do this because it probably took them 5 minutes to "repair", and it would be expensiver to make an invoice than to let it be.
    CHeerz.
    After that they will

  • Dust under screen and a scratch!

Hi there, I recently purchased a new iMac 21.5" which I love to bits, I upgraded from a 15" MacBook Pro which although is a great machine, it's just too small for me.
Anyhow, I've recently noticed that there is a light scratch which is deeper than a graze (you can feel it with your nail) almost in the center of the screen! I only noticed this as where my Mac is placed the sun sometimes reflects off it in the middle of the day, and the light pointed this scratch out like a sore thumb.
Not only this but because I like to keep my screen free from dust I noticed there are are couple of specs of dust under the screen, admittedly these are only very minor but even so, I don't expect to pay £900+ for something from Apple to find dust embedded under the screen.
Will they sort this out under the guarantee?

My guess would be no, because there's no real easy way to prove that this wasn't caused by you... But I also say you have nothing to really lose by at least trying. If they say no, they say no, but they might say yes. May as well at least give it a quick try.

  • Dust under screen and Dead Pixels on new MBP...

I got a new Macbook and, aside from the fact that it was missing the P key, there was a new manufacturing defect I hadn't seen before, (must be from the new process), wherein dust was trapped behind the glass screen.
The Apple Store was great about letting me exchanging it, no problem. Then I realized that I needed firewire so I returned the new and unopened Macbook replacement to upgrade to a MacBook Pro, but now I'm disheartened, because the new MacBook Pro, though a thing of beauty, has a bright dead pixel in the top middle screen, as well as a dimmer dead pixel 2 inches to the left of that one.
I just bought the computer a few hours ago.
Do you think I have a shot at them replacing it tomorrow? I hate to think of staring at this, (bright) dead pixel for three years, (not to mention the other dimmer dead pixel).
    Thanks!

Yep, I too did a custom order wtih everything I could get on it. And sad to say, like many iphones I have gotten, it too had dust under the display. It also was about 10 different yellow flecks under the glass. Customer service gave me no fuss really and I have sent it off and am awaiting a new one now. However, it is frustrating that this makes it out of the factory in the first place. Quality control should have seen this, especially when I am looking at buying 2 more shortly. It is my first actual mac purchase aside from the numerous other accories I have bought for PC use. However, with vista being the garbage that it is, I am having mac withdrawls now. ***** when you use something that works and then revert back.
I also noticed the battery lid was a little loose on the laptop. Hopefully this is a isolated thing as well. It does take about another week and a half from what I am told to get the replacement. Kinda ***** to have to wait, but I am sure it will be worth it.
