DV6 2112sa volume controls going mental

By the looks of it, I'm clearly not the only one with this problem, but one more topic to get the attention of HP can't hurt, eh?
Same old story, volume chaning mostly of its own accord, muting on and off, and usually disabling the WLAN. Seems to happen in short bursts.
I've tried uninstalling the software. Nothing. Reinstalling. Nothing.
Nowhere in my BIOS seems to suggest anything to do with it.
No services either.
Wouldn't know where to start in the registry.
Help a brother out, chaps.

  • Volume control goes crazy

    Hello,
    I have had my 60GB iPod for over 6 months now. Recently I've noticed that the volume control goes crazy even though nothing is touching it. It would go up and down for a few seconds in the middle of a song. I did notice that it tends to happen when my cellphone is close to it. I am wondering if anyone has experienced the same problem or if anyone can explain what is happening. Can I do anything to fix it?
    Thanks,
    DeMarHc

    Yes - it's a known issue with some cell-phones.
    All you can really do is keep your phone further away from the iPod.
    Cheers!

  • HT201401 volume control increases on its own

    volume control goes loud without touching it. anyone have this issue?

    Maybe try and let the iPod sit in a sealed container of rice for a few days to continue drying out.  It might not hurt to then connect the Nano to iTunes and restore it to factory settings.
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
    Otherwise, it's likely that the moisture has caused some internal component(s) to short circuit. In that case you'll need to have the iPod serviced/replaced eith by Apple or a third party repair company.

  • Why does volume control show during video playback

    I am playing a tutorial video for Cubase and I get a volume indicator which stays right in the middle of the screen and blocks some content while playing back the video. I don't need it and would like to know how to turn it off, but I have not found the secret setting to do so. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction. All the tutorials from this company do the same thing on my ipad. When i close the app the volume control goes away with it. There do not seem to be any internal settings within the app that would allow me to select on or off of this volume control display, and the general settings tab did not help either.
    Thanks for any help you can offer. I am trying to remember the name of the company that created the video. I am afraid if I close this window to open ithe app I will lose my post, so I will post this much and try to find the company name and add it to a later post.

    Macprovideo.com is the name of the company that produces these tutorials.
    I am replying to my own post to give further info.
    Thanks,

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
    Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
    When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
    If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
    *Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    There will be no audio output in safe mode. The question to be answered by the test is whether any devices are listed in the Sound preference pane. After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • My HP Pavilion Entertainment PC dv6 touch-operated volume control not working

    I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC dv6 and I was trying to use the volume control to turn up the volume but it isn't recognizing my touch, in other words, when I touch the volume control the volume isn't adjusting.  I have to manually do it by clicking the right hand corner volume control and adjusting it that way.
    What is wrong?  The rest of the laptop is working fine.
    Thanks for any help you can lend my way!

    Could you please give me the exact product number for your computer?

  • Pavilion dv6 volume controls

    Hi,
    For some reason the volume control panel on my keyboard has stopped working - it is located above the keyboard, next to the power button.  The wireless adaptor button is in the same place and has also stopped working.  As far as I can tell there is no button to disable this part of the keyboard like there is for the touchpad, and I tried to do a troubleshoot of the keyboard but was told there is nothing wrong with it.  Has anyone got any ideas of how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Abi
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
    This may be worth trying as the problem can be caused by a static build up in the bezel.  To see if this is the case, shut down the PC, remove the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Now hold the power button down for a good 30 seconds.  Replace the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the PC.
    Best wishes,

  • Remote volume control only goes all the way up/down

    when i use my apple remote when im using itunes, or anything other than frontrow, the volume lowers but does not stop until it has reached the bottom or the top. therefore, to adjust my computers volume i must use the keyboard volume control.

    Have you tried a reset first and if a reset does not resolve it, a restore with iTunes?
    I don't know if you are the only one who has experienced this, but I don't recall seeing the same reported here and if it has, it has not been reported in large numbers or I probably would have seen it.

  • How can I set up a custom keyboard shortcut for volume control?

    Hi all,
    I use my black MacBook at work, connected to an external monitor and external keyboard. I'm looking for a way to set up the F buttons on my external keyboard as volume control, just as they do on my laptop keyboard. Looking for F3 to F5 to be volume mute, down, and up, respectively.
    I tried going into Keyboard Shortcuts in System Preferences but since there is no menu item for volume control I can't seem to add it. Anyone know how I can go about doing this or what I'm missing?
    Thanks
    Mike

    paste the following into Applescrpt Editor (it's in /Applications/Utilities)
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #ADD8E6;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    set curVolume to output volume of (get volume settings)
    -- work out the new setting
    if curVolume < 96 then
    set newVolume to curVolume + 5
    else
    -- can't go over 100
    set newVolume to 100
    end if
    -- and apply it
    set volume output volume newVolume</pre>
    this script will increase volume by 5 (out of 100) any time you run it. you can adjust this of course. save the script somewhere.
    You can use a 3rd part app launcher to bind a keyboard shortcut to it. I use Butler. there are many others: Quicksilver, ikeys, quickeys, Spark, Launchbar.
    this will work the fastest.
    If you don't want to use 3rd party tools for this you can make a service using automator but that might be a bit slower than the first option. open automator. it will give you a pulldown screen wiuth the choice of what you want to make. choose "service". set it to receive no input and be available in all applications. add the following "run apple script" action to the service
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #ADD8E6;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    on run {input, parameters}
    set curVolume to output volume of (get volume settings)
    -- work out the new setting
    if curVolume < 96 then
    set newVolume to curVolume + 5
    else
    -- can't go over 100
    set newVolume to 100
    end if
    -- and apply it
    set volume output volume newVolume
    end run</pre>
    save the service, go to keyboard system preferences->keyboard shortcuts->services and make a shortcut for the service you just created.

  • How do I set shortcuts on my new onn wireless keyboard for volume control?

    Replacement Keyboard
    Volume control issue with a non- Apple Keyboard
    [Sunday - July 29, 2012 - 2:18pm]
    Question:     I just purchased a new keyboard in place of the orginal for my iMac which gave out this morning. The brand name of the keyboard is
    ONN & it's a wireless board. I've encountered an issue that is a deal breaker - if there is no possible way to correct it. The volume control buttons used to
    increase/decrease/mute the volume do not work on this product. I bough this keyboard because it was one of the two that was Mac compatable at my
    local store. I realize you get what you pay for but hope there is a soulution!
    **Sidenote: I was curious, anyone had any other issues with these keyboards?
    Some additional information:
    When I woke up this morning, sat down in my computer chair, turned on my iMac and pulled up Textedit. I placed my hands on my faithful keyboard and within moments I realized that it had met it's end. I was quite upset that my original, sleek white iMac keyboard was now a thng of the past but realized that I'd need a replacement very soon in order to get my paperwork done.
    Unfortunately, I did not have time to ride forty-five minutes to my local Apple store and I didn't neccesarily want to hand over the cash for one of the pricey keyboards at the time because I am going on a vacation within the next few weeks and each dime counts. So, I decided to visit a store that obviously would have the cheapeast deals in the meantime. So, I headed to to Wal-Mart to make a quick purchase
    As I walked the aisles it soon became evident that today's market still is not on point when it comes to having Apple compatable hardware, softwore or anything for that matter. As I quickly skimmed the keyboards I ran across several that caught my eye, but of course, they were all made specifically for Windows. So, finally I approcahed two keyboards that were Mac compatible. The first was way too large and came with a mouse, which I did not need. The second caught my eye and I knew that this would be my purchase.:::
    The verdict: an onn wireless keyboard that was both affordable and also gave off a sleek and modern apperance. (Retailed: $24.00)
    So, I got home and began using the board. For the first how I was actuallly very satisfied. I like the buttons and the feel of the board. Then, I encountered a problem that made my interested for the new keyboard vanish.
    The Issue:  On the boards layout, the (F2) key has a symbol that notates the decrease volume control button, (F3) of course would be the increase volume button & lastly the (F4) button represents the [mute] button.
    However, these buttons don't work. Sadly, I am not aware of how I could possibly change this issue or if it would even be possible. I sincerely hope that it's possible - because I like the convience of the volume control keys - they were actually my favorite part of the keyboard. Manually changing the volume by going through system preferences does not sound fun to me once so ever. I guess you could call me spoiled but I don't think I can even keep this board if it doesn't have the ability to change volume/mute via the keyboard.
    This is a shame because the keyboard it'self isn't bad at all and I actually somewhat like it. So, if you have any information or an answer to this question - I'd truly appreciate hearing your responses! Also, do keep in mind I am a rookie when it comes to computers as a whole so try to simplicate things for me if that is nessecary.
    Closing negative note on this keyboard: As I typed this I started encountering a very annoying problem. As I am typing in a line, forming a sentence the keyboard would randomly start typing in pargraphs above and below as well. I'm not sure if this is something that I caused by pressing too hard with my hands or if this is a deffect. Either way, I will saving my receipt and the boxing for this product until I hear further news.
    I hope to hear from you soon and I appreciate your help very much.
    Have a great day,

  • Volume control for video playback through Apple TV2

    I am trying to configure the volume settings used on airplay through apple TV2 and a macbook pro and Iphone4 all with most recent updates.
    I am using the apple remote app on my iphone to control the apple tv.
    Whats working:
    Using the pandora app on my iphone through aiplay to the apple tv, I can control the volume using the plus and minus buttons on the side of the iphone for volume control. Very cool and easy.
    Using the apple remote app on my iphone I can control the itunes volume of different speakers by clicking on the airplay icon and using a slider.  Not as cool as using the hard +/- buttons but still works.
    Whats not working:
    Controling volume on appleTV2 through the iphone remote app for video playbacks like netflix, and youtube.
    Why I want this: RIght now I can control most of the multimedia right from my iphone including cranking the music up:) But when I switch over to video(Netlfix, Youtube) I have to get out another remote (stereo reciever) to control the volume. It seems we are so close to being able to control everything off the iphone, the only thing missing is volume control for video playback.
    Is there a setting that can be changed or a solution I havent found?
    Thanks

    Same problem with TV3. HDMI volume output is not adjustable, neither with the original Apple remote nor with any universal. Why ? Every simple settop-box is able to be volume adjusted. And a Mac Mini too ?!!!
    I use a flatscreen TV. it has 3 HDMI inputs and one optical out for the audio going to an amp standing behind it. The sound of the TV is switched to go to the optical out.
    HDMI 1 is connected to the satellite settop box with its  own remote control ( channel +/-, volume +/- etc. ) it work s fine.
    HDMI 2 is connected to the MacMini HDMI out with its own remote control ( channel/music +/-, volume +/- ) it works fine too.
    HDMI 3 was connected to Apple TV3 with its own remote control ( channel/music +/- but no volume ). I sent the TV3 back to Apple.
    What's going wrong in the mind of Apple ? Why is the HDMI volume output of the MacMini adjustable with the Apple remote, and the TV3 not ?
    I want not to discuss, wether a 4th remote control is useful or not. I don't want it. I want to adjust the volume with the originl remote control of the specific unit I use, because I need it anyway. It worked since years, but not with Apple TV3.
    How can we help Apple to open the volume +/- function on their own remote control ?

  • Ipod Touch Gen 1 and   3.1.3 volume control

    Im pretty annoyed at the latest firmware upgrade, the completely removes onscreen volume control. and the ipod touch 1st generation has no side buttons for it, making this now impossible for me to change without going into an app that has volume in it.
    Before it was bad enough because I could not double click my button to enter the volume control/song change quick menu unless music was already playing, but I got around it.
    I'm pretty disappointed with apples lack of support for earlier versions. Not only that, but I can find absolutely no feedback forms for anything other than itunes and the website.

    I seem to recall that this issue only exists when there is nothing plugged into the headphone jack -- if you plug something in then you should have volume control. I guess the problem would be if you use an FM transmitter, is that the case?

  • Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Software Issue: Volume Control, Speaker Settings, Equalizer, C

    I installed my ZS Platinum back in December, everything worked fine for 2 months, then I started to hit trouble.
    First, the driver began hanging when I took my headphones in/out, resulting in no sound from either output. I updated the drivers and this problem went away.
    Then, I was gaming and all the sound stopped working. Reboots did nothing, so I tried to reinstall the drivers. This is how the problems began. The first time I uninstalled all my creative stuff, downloaded the newest drivers, and installed that. I didn't realize that I couldn't download all the bells and whistles off the drivers page.
    So, I unistalled those drivers, and used my CD to install the drivers and MediaSource. I encountered the PLXcore.plx error during install and every time I booted Windows. Also, none of the extra applications (Volume Control, Speaker Settings, Graphic Equalizer, CMSS) would run. I uninstalled, reinstalled and tried again.
    This is where I am now. I chose not to install MediaSource this time. Again, I encountered the PLXcore.plx error during install, but I'm not receiving the error when Windows boots (because I didn't install MediaSource?). But still, most of the little applications don't run. I see the Volume Control icon in my task bar, and if I press the mute button on the keyboard the symbol changes, but when I click on the icon, nothing happens. "Creative Volume Con..." flashes on the taskbar, and a 0px by 0px white box appears above the task bar. If I click anywhere else, they disappear. The Graphic Equalizer, Speaker Settings, and CMSS dialog do the same thing when opened. THX Console does not.
    Also, the on screen display for volume no longer pops up. Is this part of MediaSource? Should I install MediaSource even if I don't plan to use it's
    Running XP SP2 on an AMD X2 4200+ with the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum.
    EDIT: Thought I'd add in another problem I have:
    I usally run my DISH reciever's sound through my computer through the Auxillary 2 RCA connections on my front panel. When I boot World of Warcraft or Warcraft III (Both Blizzard games), the sound through this connection becomes very tinny and reverby. If I alt+tab out of the game, adjust the speaker setting (5. -> Headphones -> 5.) the issue goes away. But each time I start one of these games, the problem returns. Any ideas? Known problem?Message Edited by Cuttlefish on 03--200703:9 PM

    I'm sorry I can't help but I have the exact same problem. I have no Speaker, EAX or graphic eq settings. No telling what else don't work. I have tryied 0 different ways of removing and loading it back with any and all updats and without and no success. I hope someone here can help us.

  • Volume control not working after I plug in speakers or headphones

    When I turn on my 13 inch with Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or if I restart it, my volume works perfectly. However, whenever I plug in earphones or speakers the volume will be 'stuck' on the loudest it can go. When I use the volume controls on my keyboard or the slider at the top menu bar, it will make the clicking sound as if the volume is going up or down and will show the white speaker with the volume being adjusted but the volume will stay on the loudest possible setting. Even after I unplug my speakers/headphones the volume will continue to not work. There is no red light coming from the headphone jack and since it works upon startup, I'm inclined to think it's a software issue and not a hardware issue but then again, I don't know the first thing about computers. Since this has started, I've looked online for similar problems or suggestions but nobody has had this exact same issue, but I did follow the suggestions for similar issues. I repaired the disk (I could only do it for the Macintosh but I am running bootcamp with windows on the other side but I've used it maybe once for a pc only program and have never run the internet on it so I doubt the problem is coming from that side). It repaired a bunch of stuff but it didn't fix my issue. I also reset the PRAM and the NVRAM (I don't know what this does, but someone suggested it so I gave it a shot) and it did nothing. If you have a suggestion for something I can do, please be detailed, or point me to detailed instructions because my computer knowledge is very limited but I'm willing to work to fix this. Thank you!

    Make an appointment at the Genius bar at the Apple store.
    Ciao.

  • No sound except Flash, volume control doesn't work for that.

    My sound seems to be cursed. Everything else works fine for me, but in the few years I've been using Arch I've been plagued by constant sound problems. Apparently something in a recent update broke my sound. I get no sound for anything but Flash, except Flash sound is SUPER LOUD, and doesn't adjust with the volume control. Everything else, there's just no sound. Not in VLC, Amarok, Battle for Wesnoth, or other various programs I tried. I tried VLC using the default sound output, the pulse output, and even the ALSA output just for the heck of it. No dice. I was reading in another similar topic that KDE might be the culprit, and indeed I'm using Pulse and KDE. My asound.conf is the default one that comes with the pulseaudio-alsa package. I've tried both gstreamer and xine as backends, they both have the same problem. In pavucontrol, it looks like sound is playing. If I play music or a test sound, the sound bar moves, but you still can't hear anything.
    Now here's where it gets weird. Selecting a device within Phonon is screwy. In the output section, the devices listed are as follows. All but the top one are grayed out.
    Internal Audio Digital Stereo (IEC958)
    Internal Audio Digital Stereo
    Dummy Output
    Internal Audio Analog Surround 4.1
    Internal Audio Analog Surround 4.0
    Now, in the audio capture section, the devices are different.
    Internal Audio Analog Stereo
    NVidia CK804 with ALC655 (NVidia CK804)
    NVidia CK804 with ALC655 (NVidia CK804 - MIC ADC)
    Pulse Audio
    In that list, pulse is greyed out. Are they supposed to be different like that?
    In any case... I'm at a bit of a loss. I just can't seem to keep the sound working on this thing. Any ideas?

    I think I encountered the sound problem too. I'm using a thinkpad T42, installed gnome, using ALSA. Normally I just enter runlevel 3 into the console, I have ALSA configed and the soundcard is well recognized. But when I play .mp3 using mpg123, everything goes fine but just no sound output (I setted up alsamixer previously, and had all necessary channels unmuted.). That goes several days. And one day, after setting up alsamixer, I also did a alsactl -f /var/lib/alsa/asound.status store, miracle the sound is there. But the day after, the sound disappeared again. Now I'm totally lost, leaving me thinking whether it's a Arch sound bug?
    By the way, my system is most updated and upgraded.
