Dv6700 broken HDD "#10009 replace hard drive"

Hi, My laptop model dv6700 and harddrive: SATA 250Gb. I have made recovery discs. Issue: hard drive gave up recently and in BIOS HDD checkup it showed "#10009 replace hard drive" Query: 1)since I need to replace the hard drive, i wish to upgrade it to 500GB.Is it possible or not?? 2)if yes, are there any constraints on size, make of HDD?? 3)Once i replace my HDD how to get my old OS(i got vista home premium along with laptop)?? 4)will there be a problem if i use my recovery discs on the new 500 Gb HDD?? 5)will there be any conflict in recognizing the new HDD of 500 Gb?? Is there any other way to solve this issue without replacement?? Thanks in advance!!
This question was solved.
View Solution.

Here are answers to your question.
1) You can upgrade to 500GB and its possbile without any problems
2) No constraints on size or make. You can use any brand or manufacturer of your own choice
3) You need to install your OS using recovery disks. There is a guide available over here
4) There will not be any problems if you using recovery disks on new HDD
5) There wont be any conflict. If you do face any issues, you can always post your query on the forums.
6) Unfortunately there is no other way. If the HDD test fails, it means its gone. Only option is to replace HDD.

  • Replacment Hard Drive from third party vendor for old 3rd gen Ipod

I have a 3 generation 20gb ipod, and after it`s 10,000 drop the hard drive dies. For several months I seach the net for a company to buy a replacment Hard Drive from. I settle upon "Ipodmechanic.com" for my replacement part becuase, they have a one year warrenty, apple certified, and have slightly cheaper prices than there competitors, plus the website looks nice. Anyway I order a 10gb instead of a 20 because I want to save some money and I don`t need all that space.
I get the Hard Drive a couple of days later and install it. Oviously something is wrong from the start and I figure It can be fixed with a restore from the ipod updater. Instead of a fix I get the words can not initilize restore please restore again. The situation continues to repeat itself with not solution. I can not fix my Ipod and I am stuck with a $140 Hard Drive. Also the packege the Hard Drive came in had in permenet marker, the words and symblo (Bad ?). I am not angary at what they sent me wether used or new, as long as it works. But what makes me angry is after I bought the Hard Drive Ipodmechanic stopped answering my emails. I had to ask for there phone number because it wasn`t posted on there site. I can not get in contact with them and if so I must request my bank to sees the fund they have of mine. I don`t believe they are doing this on purpose, maybe they are on vacation or had an emergancy but, it would be nice if they would inform there customers they are away, but, still with no respones what choice is there when they have my $140 and a warrenty they can not make good on.

3.are there any ways to retrive the data from the old hard disk. You can try putting it in an external enclosure to see if it can be read from the OS of another PC you have access to. There is no guarantee that it wil work.
4.what are all the reason why my hard disk get destroyed? Sadly,It just happens. That is why many of us back up important information to an external hard disk.
please identify your notebook with the p/n from the barcoded sticker on:
the bottom of your notebook or on the first screen of the BIOS.
Please post that information here and I will be able to provide you with more information
If you notebook is still in warranty the hard drive can be replaced as a warranty item (at no cost  to you for the part).

  • Need help with replacement hard drive

My hard drive has stopped working on this computer and since i only purchased it on 10/2012 I really don't want to replace it just yet.  I am trying to buy a new hard drive but I would like a Seagate.  I want to upgrade from  1 TB to 2TB.  I was wondering if there is a Seagate product out there that would be compatable with the original hard drive but in 2 TB.The original hard drive is a HDD GNRC 1 TB SATA 3 ECO 7200 rpm 3.5".  I was looking at a Seagate 2TB SATA 6.0 but I do not know is the SATA 6 will work with the original SATA 3.  Can you please help me or guide me in the right direction for a replacement.  I also have the HP recovery CD's coming to me in the mail. Thanks,GinaCee

Hi Big_Dave,Thank you for your help.  I found this hard drive at Newegg and I was hoping you could tell me if it would be compatable.Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive.   Or is there any Seagate product you could reccomend? I have a Seagate external hard drive and I like thier product, so I was hoping that they made something compatable for my HP.  I will be installing this drive myself.  I have all the instructions from the HP website and it doesn't look that difficult.  Just waiting for my restore CD's and a replacement hard drive so I can start this project.   Thanks again!Gina

  • Question about replacing hard drive

Hey everyone. I had a question about replacing a hard drive for a 2012 midyear pro. I have replaced hard drives before on windows machines, but this is the first mac I have owned. It didn't come with a hard drive when I bought it, but I do have mavericks installed on a usb. As far as a new hard drive, will any 2.5 laptop hard drive work? I read it needs to be 9.5mm thick. Is that correct? As far as I am concerned, hardware is hardware and should be the same as replacing a hard drive on a dell laptop but wanted to see if apple has any weird restrictions.
Also, is there anything I need to consider or be aware of when putting in a new hard drive? Or can I just hook up the hard drive and plug in the USB and install the software onto the hard drive. Thanks
Excuse and ny ignorance as I am new to macs.

Yes.  Any SATA drive will do with those specifications.

Assuming that the installer is functioning correctly, install the HDD in the MBP and engage the installer.  You should come across a 4 option menu.  Select Disk Utility from it.  Open Disk Utility>Erase and format the HDD to Mac OS Extended (Journlaled).  One you finish that, you may install the OSX.
    Ciao.

  • 2nd HDD caddy replacing optical drive for HP Pavilion 15-e073ca Notebook PC & Windows 10

Hello ! I am planning to add a SSD to my two-years-old HP Pavilion 15-e073ca Notebook PC. I found on some sites that I can remove the optical drive and put a second drive using a caddy adapter into the optical drive bay. I found that some people on the forum have done it successfully, but nothing about my PC model. I want to know if it could work with my product. In other words, there is my plan:1-Remove the actual HDD from the hard drive bay and replace it with the new SSD.2-Remove the optical drive and replace it with the caddy adapter containing my old HDD.3-Do a clean install of Windows 10 on the SSD, using a USB recovery flash drive made with my actual Windows 10 system (which was updated from Windows 8.1). I am planning to buy the following parts:1- a HDD / SSD caddy adapter for HP Pavilion 15 (model OBHD9-SATA-SATA-BU9), from NewmodeUS (http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=583)2- a 128 GB SSD drive (item SDSSDHP-128G), from SanDisk (http://www.sandisk.com/products/ssd/sata/ultra-plus/?capacity=128gb) I have some questions before buying the parts:1- Will the two drives (my old HDD and the new SSD) be recognized by the motherboard / BIOS and the operating system (Windows 10)? Is there a limit of one unique HDD/SSD drive on the computer?2- The height of the SSD is 7mm, and it seems that my old HDD is 9.5mm height (model WDC WD10JPVT-60A1YT0). Would it cause any problem (would I need to add spacers)?3- Do these parts work together and with my computer (size, compatibility)? Do you expect any problem with this upgrade?4- Will the clean install of Windows 10 work, since I plan to install it on a different drive than the one I used to create the USB recovery flash drive? I have never done a clean Windows installation before. Thanks in advance for your replies.Haghe

  • Replaced hard drive- will not reboot

Replaced hard drive on hp compaq mini cq10- 120ca because it quit working and the diagnostics said the hard drive was no good. Had a back up flash drive, but when I tried to reboot it says the bootmgr is missing. The mini did not come with any back up cd. What can I do to remedy this, and how can I verify the flash drive  is bootable. When I connect the flash drive to another computer it looks like all of the backup files are there. It had windows xp home on it.  Thank you.

    Hi Tomilly,
The easiest way is to get a recovery image from HP, please call HP call center and request a recovery image either via USB drive or CD type depends on your configuration.
If your original HDD is still workable, please re-install this HDD back.  Boot up the system and locate the HP recovery manager, there shall be an option to create recovery media which can store all your image including the OS to the media.

  • IPod 4th Gen Click Wheel replaced hard drive; problems

Ok, So I replaced the 20gb hard drive with a new EXACT replacement hard drive, no other problems with iPod. But iTunes will not recognize it because the hard drive is not formatted. I tried formating it with Disk Utility but keep getting error messages. Im not sure what format to use. When the 4th gen came out Intel processors werent here so Im sure I need to simply format as Mac OS Extended. There is no HFS= format in Disk Utility. Im lost as to what to do. Please help??!

    hmm - curiouser and curiouser
I've now managed to get it to manually update (after iTunes took 100% of system resources and I had to force quit it...) but that still doesn't really help me with the auto-sync feature which still won't work

  • MacBook Pro does not boot past apple screen after replacing hard drive

After replacing hard drive on MacBook Pro 13 inch early 2011 model, the screen only boots to the apple logo.  Do I need to re-install the OS?

The problem is that the OS is not in any where else of the MacBook Pro than in the HD / SSD. If you replace the Hard Drive, then you will need to Re-install OSX into that hard drive, it's pretty easy.
    1) Power up your Macbook Pro, as fast as you can press and hold the Option key (ALT). You'll see that it opens the bootable-devices you have, you'll see a Recovery partition, click it.
(If the Hard Drive contains data do the following)
    2) In the menu select Disk Utility.
    3) In Disk Utility go ahead and select the Hard Drive that is inside the MBP.
    4) Erase the content.
(If the Hard Drive contains no data continue with the following jumping the last 3 steps).
    5) Select Re-install OSX.
    6) Select the Hard Drive in which you want to install it.
Follow the steps of everything else (it should take approximately 1 hour to do the whole thing).
    Hope this helps!
    Later.

    Thanks for your response.
I had tried COMMAND+ALT+R which led me to directly to INTERNET RECOVERY via wifi. After 1 hour or so it dropped me at the same point.
I've tried MIGRANT ASSISTANCE as well, it kept on LOOKING FOR OTHER COMPUTERS even though I clicked on TIME MACHINE BACK UP USING EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE
    so what to do now?
P.S. Guys at MacStore were so careless to even listen to me when I asked them about retrieving back up :(
    Please help

  • I have an iMac 21.5 inch purchased in 2011 with a failing 1TB Seagate hard drive. Can I get a replacement hard drive?

I have an iMac 21.5 inch purchased in 2011 with a failing 1TB Seagate hard drive. Can I get a replacement hard drive thru the Apple Replacement Program? I did purchase the Applecare Plan but it expired in Dec. 2013.

FWIW, if you purchased the iMac in 2011 and purchased Applecare, you are covered for a total of 3 years. You mentioned yours expired in December 2013 - that cannot be unless you bought yours in 2010. If you bought it in December 2011, you should still be covered until December 2014 - if so, contact Apple/make a Genius Bar appointment quickly so the replacement is covered by the warranty. The hard drive replacement program might have expired, but as long as you're covered by Applecare, a drive replacement is covered.
