DVD/CD drive not working no matter what - pavillion dv6812nr entertainment

Hi! I'm posting this in a new thread because I can't seem to find anyone else with my specific problem.
So I got my brother's hand-me-down HP pavillion entertainment notebook, and the disc drive will not open (except for a 10-second window while the laptop is starting up). Even when I manage to get a disc in there, my computer isn't reading it or even acknowledging that the disc drive exists. I have tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling, but the problem is that I can not even find the DVD/CD device in the Device Manager--it's just not there. I also tried this solution: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461 , however when i am in the correct registry subkey, there are no UpperFilters or LowerFilters.
Please help, I just bought a music recording box and software and really need this fixed!

I grasp that your optical drive is not being recognized in your computer.    Here is a link to CD/DVD Drive Is Not Detected (Windows Vista).  As the link in your post was to a microsoft document for Vista, I assume  that is what you were running.

  • Satellite A200 -1VG - DVD RW Drive not working

    Hi all,
    Pls i need some help with my laptop. The DVD drive on my computer is not working properly.. It plays DVDs and CDs, but when i try to burn CDs or install a new program with a CD it gets to like 97% then stops and an error message shows up. It sometimes says the message cannot Run due to some errors.
    Also i keep getting disconnected off the internet every 10mins, please what can i do
    Lastly i want to know if i can install winXP as i dont like vista. Thanks

    When CD/DVD related software is installed (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), they install filters into the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.
    1) Run Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
    2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
    4) Reboot.
    If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).

  • DVD/CD Drive not working on Satellite L55

    I have a Satellite L55 laptop with DVD/CD drive that I've used successfully to burn CDs in the past. Yesterday, I tried to view a DVD given to me by a friend and all it did was click and nothing happened. No error message other than telling me there was no DVD in the drive.
    This morning, I put in a CD and same thing happened. You can hear the drive whirr a bit but then there are little repeated clicking noises and nothing. iTunes told me to put in a blank CD (the CD shows as blank in other drives), and if I look at Windows Explorer, it tells me to put in a DVD.
    I've taken a quick look at the driver and it tells me that everything is working properly. If I tell Windows (8.1) to update the driver, it tells me it's the latest driver.
    As far as I know, nothing has happened physically to the drive, beyond being opened accidentally on occasion when moving the laptop since the open button just happens to be in the right position for that to happen when you lift up the laptop.
    Any ideas as to what I can try to do to see if the drive is truly dead before attempting to replace it?
    Thanks,
    Marie

  • DVD/CDRW drive not working - Tecra A4

    Hi, I have a problem with my Tecra A4.
    My DVD CDRW drive is not working properly (Power is there, but it doesn't show up on the system), I have temporary installed a DVDRW drive from my HP laptop which is working fine.
    I tried to run my recovery disc (never used it before), but nothing happens (press and hold C on start up). Will this only run with the correct drive installed or am I doing something wrong?
    p.s. I bought this second hand but it is new. It had a damaged screen which I've replaced
    Julian

    If the old drive will not read the medias so its possible damage.
    You should know that not every drive is compatible with the unit because of the master/slave/csel settings.
    You have said that the pressing of the C button doesnt allow you to boot up from the drive.
    In such case I would recommend to enter the BIOS and there you could change the booting order.
    However, this all tip will only works if the new drive is compatible and supported

    I understand that you are having trouble with the DVD drive reading disks. I am happy to help.
    My main concern is that you describe a loud grinding sound, presumably coming from the DVD drive. If that is so, I would recommend that you call our technical support at 800-474-6836. • Adobe Flash is not working no matter what I do - I have updated Firefox to the latest version and Flash to the latest version to no avail - what can be done?

    I have used your help processes and done everything that is suggested - repeatedly. I don't know what else to say. Whenever I go to a site requiring the use of adobe flash, the system freezes up for a couple of minutes or more and then it says that Flash has crashed. I have sent the crash reports multiple times. When I use Internet Explorer, I have no issues with Adobe Flash. I have Windows 7 64bit installed.

    I had loads of problems with iTunes, could see all but it would not respond at all.
    I downloaded Abexo free registry cleaner and Errorkill registry cleaner free for limited period with restrictions. I ran both and got rid of all the junk in the registry and then installed QuickTime standalone...all problems solved. May need to reinstall itunes AFTER Quicktime if this does not work.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using JavaBean with JSP...will not work no matter what

    Hi guys. Sorry that this is such a common, newb question, but I don't know where else to turn.
    I'm new to web application development, Tomcat, and JSP. I'm trying to use a simple JavaBean in a JSP to store some user information. The JSP is located in $CATALINA_HOME\webapps\art , and the UserBean I'm trying to use is in $CATALINA_HOME\webapps\art\WEB-INF\classes . I've tried adding a context in the Tomcat server.xml file, but nothing seems to work, even putting the .class file into the \art directory along with the JSP. The error I get is the following:
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
    An error occurred at line: 1 in the jsp file: /welcome.jsp
    Generated servlet error:
    [javac] Compiling 1 source file
    C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Tomcat 4.1\work\Standalone\localhost\art\welcome_jsp.java:43: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : class UserBean
    location: class org.apache.jsp.welcome_jsp
    UserBean user = null;
    ^
    The source code is:
    welcome.jsp
    <%@ page import="java.sql.*" %>
    <jsp:useBean id="user" class="UserBean" scope="session"/>
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Art Webapp Test</title>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
    </head>
    <h1>Art Site</h1><br><br>
    <h3>Welcome Page</h3><br><br>
    <%
         user.setUsername("joe");
    user.setTitle("admin");
    %>
    </body>
    </html>
    UserBean:
    public class UserBean {
    private String username = null;
    private String title = null;
    public UserBean()
         this.username = null;
         this.title = null;
    public String getUsername()
         return this.username;
    public String getTitle()
         return this.title;
    public void setUsername(String inName)
         this.username = inName;
    public void setTitle(String inTitle)
         this.title = inTitle;
    }//UserBean
    Thanks for any and all help anyone could give me about this. It seems such a simple thing, to get a JavaBean working in a JSP...and it's very frustrating to have it NOT work when it seems I've done everything possible to get it to.

    Ok, I figured out what the problem was. My Bean was not a part of any specific package. It was never made clear to me that Beans are required to be a part of some package...I had no idea (though they always put them in packages in the tutorials, you think I would have picked up on it!).
    So I just added the following line to the Bean:
    package com.art;
    Then compiled it and copied the .class file to CATALINA_HOME\webapps\art\WEB-INF\classes\com\art
    Ta-da
    Thanks for the help and sorry for taking up space on this board.

  • HT201210 I updated my 1Pad2 software yesterday as requested. Now airtime, and sync do not work no matter what I try. This is very frustrating.

    Yesterday I was sent a message that I must update my iPad 2. So I updated the software to ios 7.0.4. Now the airplay does not work which has worked forever, and I can not sync my iPad.  What is going on?

  • "Explicit" tag will not work no matter what I do

    I have done everything exactly as I was told in every tutorial that I have looked up, including the official iTunes tutorial, and yet, no matter what I do, iTunes refuses to recognize my podcast as "explicit" and instead thinks it "is clean."  I do not want my podcast to be taken down for being explicit, and I do not want the unlikely scenario of a child accidentally stumbling upon it and hearing big people words, but nothing I do will put the "Explicit" tag on our page.  Below is a link to my RSS feed.  Please help!  If there is something I am doing wrong, or something I should change, please let me know.
    http://www.secretroommultimedia.com/fairpoint/fair.xml

    Thanks so much.  I sincerely appreciate all the help you've given me.  I have one more question if it is not too much trouble for you.  When you view the list of podcasts on our iTunes page, underneath "Description" there is nothing, just "--".  When you click there (on the "--") you can see the full description, exactly how I want it.  I do not understand why the first few words of the description do not appear in place of "--" as they do on any other podcast I have seen.  I'm sure there is a simple solution just as there has been with my other issues.
    To be clear, I am talking about the description for each episode, not the podcast in general.

  • My I-Tunes is not working no matter what I do, please help!!!

    Hello, for about 2 weeks now my I-Tunes has not been working when I click on it. I use I-Tunes version 6(the latest free version). At first, when I clicked on it an error messege would pop up. I have re-downloaded I-Tunes at least three times and now simply nothing happens when I try to access my I-Tunes. • DVD-RW drive not working properly on Satellite A40-702

    This is on my Toshiba SA-40-702 Satellite lap top. It's five years old.
    Hi, I have been looking at the threads for this problem and have not been able to spot a similar thread yet.
    My dvd-rw WILL play a purchased audio music cd, and it will also work with the discs which were supplied with the laptop. S something is working OK......However, I have recently tried burning a music track (from i-tunes) and it showed up blank, but strangeley the cd did play the music track OK in a machine at work. I have now tried to view some other discs which I recorded on this laptop in january, and they now show as blank discs and I can't see their contents (they were text documents and photos). They were working before.
    I have this weekend made many attempts to burn 30 photos, and I have tried two different makes of blank dvd discs, but although the laptop says "burning to disc" etc, when I try to view the burned disc, there is nothing on it !!!
    I wonder if anyone has any suggestions please. I have tried to clean the little blue eye with a fine hair brush inside dvd drawer, so I expect the next step may be to just buy some newer discs ????

    Hi
    My personal opinion is; the drive cannot handle the burned mediums due to the stressed laser lens. Fact is that your notebook and the drive is more than 5 years old.
    I dont know how the drive was used in the last years but due to the long time of usage its possible that the lens cannot read the data from the CDs/DVDs now.
    This is not unusual. My brothers notebook cannot read the CDs/DVDs which were burned one year ago I presume its the same reason the drives laser lens issue
    Hmm you dont have many possibilities you could try to burn these disks again with another notebook/computer and then could check if you can red the data.
    The last option would be the drive replacement

  • Dvd-rom drive not working

    i got a satellite 1805-S253 model with a toshiba dvd-rom sd-c2502 drive..now when i put a cd or dvd inside the drive..it sounds like its skipping..i check the driver on it and everything is updated..now when i click on the drive i get this message saying windows cannot read from disk the disk might be corrupted,or it could be using a format that is not compatable with windows?

    Hi, if it fails with any CD or DVD here some ideas. The skipping or rubbing could mean it's not seating fully on the spindle (Which will let it read). The not reading could be dust on the laser eye (Try some canned air), it could be corrosion on the contacts where the CD/DVD plug's into the motherboard (Remove the drive and inspect, reinsert). I had two M2 combo drives that failed for no apparent reason and I tried the above and nothing. I pulled the drive again and looked at the plug that plugs into the MB and saw two screws in plastic frame around the connector. I took them out and wiggled it and it came off, it turned out to be an adaptor with a smaller connector on the back that plugged in the main part of the drive. I wiggled it back on and put the screws back and tried it and it worked like new on both of them. Who knew?

  • New p6717c DVD/CD drive not working

    Just got this HP p6717c at Sam's a few days ago. I made recovery dvd's as recomended and that worked fine. I watched a couple of dvd's and left one in after watching. The next day I was going to burn a CD but the drawer would not open. Restarting didn't help, but I did get it open with a paper clip. I took out the dvd and pushed the tray back in. The drawer servo never seemed to activate. The drawer will still not open - with the button or through a burning program. When I try to burn and click on "eject" it comes up with an error sonmething like "error disc will not eject" but no error code or number is given. When I try disc diagnostics, it asks me to put in a disc, but will not open and does not seem to realize that it is not opening. I suspected a loose power cable, but all connections inside seem sound. If I access "device manager" the drive shows up and device status indicates "this device is woking fine." I tried updating the driver. I also tried deleting the driver and letting windows re-install it automatically but still no luck.
    I'm stumped!!
    TIA for any insight
