DVD Player suddenly stopped working

I am using a 2008 imac with OX X 10.5.8 and DVD player 5.0.3. Suddenly, after no updates, I insert a store bought DVD, and the disk is ejected after 10 seconds or so. DVD player never pops up. under CD/DVD, I select to use DVD player when a DVD is inserted and the option instantly changes to ignore. Even if I open the dvd player application manually, it still does not start the movie. I can open the movie with front row. any ideas?
thanks,
LanceT

I had the same problem with my MacBook running Leopard. Computer was shut down for 8 days while we were on vacation. I came back and suddenly when I tried watching a Netflix rental the DVD player just spit out the disk. I was able to find the file in question and delete it and that fixed the problem. But I'm curious what that file is and why would it suddenly cause a problem with the DVD player where there was no problem before. Thanks.

  • What can I do about this message -"Toshiba DVD Player has stopped working"

    Hi
My DVD Player used to work fine . . . and then I installed iTunes.
It then worked for a while, but only by using 'Run as Administrator'.
After a couple of weeks I started to get the message "Toshiba DVD Player has stopped working".
I have uninstalled iTunes - and uninstalled and then re-installed the DVD Player - but it still will not work!!
    Any solutions please?
Thanks in advance for your help.

My solution to this is to remove Toshiba DVD player and install VLC player. You can get it for free.
It can read all video formats and you don't need some additional codecs.

  • Flash Player Suddenly Stopped Working on Chrome, I.E. and FF

As with many other posters, the latest version of flash player (fp) suddenly stopped working on FireFox, Chrome and Internet Explorer!  I uninstalled fp using the fp uninstaller and attempted to reinstall it, but it would not download on FireFox nor Internet Explorer (Chrome has a built-in fp).  Therefore, I did a system restore to an earlier date hoping this would solve the problem.  It did not.  I have also unticked hardware acceleration, still nothing.
If anyone has found a solution, please let me know.  Thanking you all in advance.

Fortunately, I found my answer.  I went into the Adobe Global Settings (http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.htm l ) and checked  "Allow third party flash content to store data on your computer".  Hopefully this may help someone else.

  • DVD Player suddenly stops recognizing and playing homemade DVDs

The DVD Player in our G5 has suddenly stopped recognizing and playing some home made movies on DVD from several friends. These discs played just fine before, but now we get a message that says "supported disc not available".
I've got the latest version of DVD Player 4.6.5. Why would it suddenly stop reading all these DVDs? Thanks for any ideas or help. Bob Krist

    My experience/opinon:
Without blaming Apple, it is a DigitalRightsManagment
problem, Apple is obligated to fullfill. You will
find that your homemade DVD plays fine on any
ordinary PC or even annother MAC-environment, just
    not on your own.
As of Mac-OS-X.46(5 not quite sure ) Support for
    UDF-Format ceased,
I believe to have read somewhere. So your DVD is
    mounted, but does'nt
    show up on the desktop.
    I am using OSX 10.4.7 (Build 8J135) DVD Player 4.6.5 (Framework 4.6.6)
Home-made video DVD-Rs work fine. DVD player starts when a disk is inserted. The disk shows up on desktop. Get Info and Disk Utility show UDF (Universal Disk Format). Finder shows the VIDEO_TS folder, .VOB files, etc. Get Info's Preview window will even play the .VOB files.
So, UDF read support is still in OSX 10.4.7 OSX has never had UDF write support except for iDVD.
I personally record movies from TV, legally. And my
solution to that problem is to create a Disk-Image,
    that I burn on a data-disc, and I don't use
    DVD-Player.
DVD Imager <http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html> will create UDF disk image files from VIDEO_TS folders. When you burn these with Disk Utility they will play in standalone DVD players and in Macs. They will start Apple's DVD Player when inserted.
Toast can also create UDF disks.
If you create non-UDF disks (e.g. with Disk Utility), most standalone DVD players will not play them and Apple's DVD player will not start automatically when the DVDs are inserted. You can still play them with Apple's DVD Player by using "Open DVD Media" from its "File" menu and choosing the VIDEO_TS folder.

    Please help me,
I can't use the Toshiba DVD Player, every time I open it, appears the windows windows saying that the app has stop working...
When I see the error report, appears 'app crash'....

Try removing the CD/DVD Filters from the Registry.
When CD/DVD related software is installed (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), they install filters into the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.
    1) Run Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
    2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
    4) Reboot.
If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).
This utility can remove the filters for you:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/bulletins/su2065061/RmvFltrs.exe
Failing that, I would backup the data and run recovery.

  • Flash Player suddenly stopped working on my computer completely!

So I tried out the Adobe Photoshop trial, and when that trial expired, I uninstalled it using Revo Uninstaller, and I think that may have accidentally uninstalled Adobe Flash Player from my  computer entirely. None of my browsers can show Youtube Videos, Pandora Radio does not work,  and when I go to click on a link from Google, it's just a white screen and does not redirect me to the link, although Flash games do work for some odd reason.
I use Google Chrome, have deleted browsing cache, Flash cache, and attempted to re-install Adobe Flash Player onto my computer, but when I go to install it on chrome, it says that flash is built in. When I go to install it on Firefox, I click download and nothing ever pops up.
If anyone can help me, I'd really appreciate that very much!

Sorry for the delay, the clean install did not work unfortunately. Here is the information you requested.

  • Web Flash Player suddenly stopped working, now just see green screen or player crashes altogether

    Hi,
I bought a new laptop maybe 2 weeks ago. It worked fine up until 2,3 days ago. Videos online (ie. youtube) no longer work. I either get a green screen (other videos online, random sites) or the video player crashes and asks me to send the error report (happens whenever i click a youtube video).
I'm running windows 8 (64-bit) and the latest flash player is installed (the .117 one)
    Someone please help,
I can't watch any videos and my laptop is brand new!
    Thank you in advance.

"green" indicates an outdated graphics driver; see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/945765
Or you could disable hardware acceleration.

  • My DVD player/burner stopped working

I have 10.5.8 non-intel and it just ejects every DVD that I put in it.  I have an LG Portable external drive, but the CPU only acknowledges it about 7 per cent of the time.  Is there a way to de-activate the drive so that the external is more easily recognized, or an affordable brand of external DVD drive that will be more friendly with this mac?  Thanks in advance

I suspect that the external optical drive has a mechanical and/or electronic problem, as opposed to having a compatibility issue with your G5.  I've got many different external optical drives/burners (by a variety of manufacturers) and the only problem (if any) with a Mac would be bootability.  Reading disks is not typically a problem, and burning disks (with "Toast") is trouble-free.  Other World Computing has this external DVD±RW drive, which has every connection option you'd need.  If you want a Blu-ray drive, there are a several from which to choose on this page.
There is no way (or need) to disable the internal optical drive with a control panel, as one might do with the Device Manager in a PC or with BIOS settings.  The compatibility of the OEM internal drive doesn't diminish the System's capability to recognize an external drive.

  • All of a Sudden, My Flash Player Has Stopped Working

Early Friday afternoon (just yesterday), my Flash Player was working fine.  I am using Mozilla's Firefox on a Windows 7 computer (Dell Inspiron 530S).   Then, inexplicably, it failed.  Several websites reported that something couldn't be displayed because I didn't have Adobe's Flash Player installed.  Gotta tell you, I wasn't making any changes to the operating system nor to the browser.  In fact, I wasn't changing ANY of my settings on ANY computer.  Then Friday evening, Flash Player simply stopped working.
I UN-installed the existing program, re-booted, then RE-installed Flash Player and, again, there is no message saying INSTALLED SUCCESSFULLY.  Could any of these be a delayed result of the the latest version of Firefox, which was released on 9/30/2011, about a week ago?
Now, I can't even install the Acrobat after uninstalling IT.
    Any ideas?

From IE go to the Tools menu and deselect ActiveX Filtering.
    That's it!
If this works for you, please spread the word! I spent hours loading older versions of Flash, configuring Pop-Up Blocker, and generally tearing my hair out.
How would that possibly help resolving the o/p's problem with Firefox...?
Also, why did you spend hours when your solution is right here in the FAQ on top of the forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/867968

SO....HELP...anyone know what could be happening here?
One other thing grabbed off another forum. Do any of you think this is advisable or could I make matters worse?...See Following:
Okay, solution found! It's dangerous for newbies but experienced Mac users can handle it
Go to System Preferences>Accounts. Right-click on your name on the left, and choose Advanced Options. You can now change your UID and GID. They should be 501. Set them to 0. This gives you the all-powerful (and dangerous) root access. Log out and log in again. If it happens the same for you as it did for me, you'll be scared at first if you've never done this before. The log-in process changes to the more secure form, and you may log-in as root, not as yourself at all!
That doesn't matter, though. Run the Flash Installer and it will do its thing. If you had any kind of permissions setback before this will plow right through it. The Installer opens a test page when it's done so you'll see its success. Now, immediately change your GID and UID (for your own name, of course, not the System Administrator if that's what you're logged in as now) back to 501. Log out immediately after this, and log in as yourself again. The browsers should have working Flash under your name as well. Mission Accomplished!
P.S.: Adobe can still bite it (particularly their tech "support" site), but without Flash the Internet is a much less interesting place, unfortunately, so I'm glad I got it working again.)
Thanks for any help...I can't view the multimedia content on my own web site and this makes things pretty non functional.
    Liz

When Disk Utility reports failure on exit, it means there is something it can't fix. Usual solution is to use Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro to fix the problem. That Disk utility found issues with Quartz is interesting, as Quartz is OS X's foundation for it's graphics system, and coincidentally your primary issue is with Flash. It may just be coincidental, though.

  • Itunes has suddenly stops working when any player connected

Itunes has always worked fine on my HP laptop running Vista. With no changes in configuration or software, Itunes has suddenly stopped working any time an Ipod, Nano, or Shuffle is attached. I have tried to reinstall all software, restart computer, checked devices for updates. Have also tried solutions published on Apple support page. Nothing works. Itunes starts and works fine until a device is connected, but then I get the message that the program has stopped working and needs to close. Occasionally the whole system crashes and I get a "blue screen" error.

Restart computer..Go to Mac HD open it go to Applications..click on it and scroll down to DVD Player, Click it and when it opens to the Black Screen..

  • I just brought my MacPro in for service and they replaced my hard drive. However, now my disc drive has suddenly stopped working! Is there anything I can do to fix this without having to take it back in for service, again!?

The nearest service center is 2 hours from my house and my computer isn't under warranty anymore, so I need alternative options. I'm just frustrated that my disc drive was totally fine until AFTER I took it in for service. I just paid a lot of money for a new hard drive from the apple store and now my disc drive has suddenly stopped working correctly. I tried with multiple CD's and DVD's...loading a disc, but my computer would just make a weird loading noise and then eject the discs. Now it has started fighting taking the disc, so I have stopped trying. Is there anyway to fix this problem without taking it in for service again and paying another boat load of money?
Thanks in advance for your help!

    ShelbyMackenzieLynne,
when you say that your disc drive is damaged, do you mean your MacBook Pro’s hard disk drive, or do you mean its SuperDrive (the CD/DVD drive)?
When you’d updated your MacBook Pro to Mavericks, did the installation succeed, and subsequently freeze up? Or did it freeze up during the Mavericks installation?
Which version of OS X was installed on your MacBook Pro before you’d installed Mavericks?
Are you currently able to boot into the Mavericks recovery partition? To see if you can do so, hold down a Command key and the R key while starting up your MacBook Pro.

  • DVD player doesn't work correctly

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 laptop. It's pretty new - bought in the summer. The operating system is Windows Vista.
I have a problem with my DVD player. It often just stops working. It sometimes works after I restart the computer, but for short periods of time. When it doesn't work, it doesn't eject when I click the eject button or when I go to My Computer and choose eject from there. In addition, if there's a disk in it, it's not recognized - when I go to My Computer and double click, it says "Please insert a disk."
However, when I click the eject button on the player, an orange light shows up for a second. It doesn't make any sound, though.
When it works and I burn a DVD, the sound it makes isn't continuous which shows that it doesn't work continuously(right?). I mean, it burns and the burning process seems to be getting somewhere and then the sound stops for a few seconds and the bar stops and then they both continue. Maybe this is normal, I don't really know.
I tried Safe Mode to see if it works, but the result is the same.
I also opened the Device Manager and checked if there's an update, but there's none.
I tried System Restore too, but it didn't work.
Somehow, I think the problem is with the driver because the orange light appears when I click the eject button, but I don't know anything about DVD players, so I'm not sure about anything.
I really don't want to reinstall Windows because firstly, the process of first backing up everything, then waiting for it to reinstall and then get everything on there again (and installing the millions of programs I'm using again) is just stupid, takes to long and it usually doesn't solve problems anyway. Reinstalling is one of my last options, together with taking it to the repair people. Right now, I really need my laptop every day so if there's no solution, it might take a while before I find time to take it there. Thanks to everyone that replies.

I think I found out something new today. I had the same problem again, but the DVD player wouldn't work even after I restarted several times and went into Safe Mode. Accidentally, though, when I wanted to restart the last time, I clicked the hibernate button and when I turned the laptop on again, the DVD player worked. It might just be a coincidence, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
