DVD Production with Copy Protection at home.

I'm interested in investing in some sort of mass DVD production equipment. Like a burning tower or something like that but I'd like to encorporate some sort of copy protection into the mix.
Does anyone know anything about this kind of thing or can point me to a solution provider of some kind?
I'm looking to graduate from the one at a time ink jet printed system.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul,
Yeah as David says, you cannot get a system that will allow you to put copy protection on your discs. The process that allows the to occur is called replication. It involves a glass master that stamps discs with the data. However, for shorter runs, duplication is often used. Duplication uses lasers to burn pits in a dvd-r media. It does not support protection in the form of CSS (content scrambling system). However, if you are still interested in a larger volume DVD duplication system, check out the Bravo II from primera. There are many other options out there as well. Just do a google search. You may have a little difficulty finding duplicators that are mac compatible since a lot of them use disc juggler which is windows only software. However, there are still a number of good options out there. Good Luck!

  • HT1473 Do iMacs (2009) have a problem with copy protected CDs?

Do iMac (2009) have a problem with copy protected CDs? My iMac keeps ejecting new (2014) George Harrison (Apple years) CDs I bought.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. My iMac is not recognising the 2014 pressing of George Harrison's apple year CDs, I can't get them to play (let alone try & copy them). The CD is accepted in the drive, it reads the CD & then ejects it. I suspect that the CDs are copy protected, although I do have earlier (e.g. from 2004) copy controlled CDs that the iMac will play. Is there a known issue with iMacs not playing copy protected CDs?
My copy protection suspicion is based on a user posting on the George Harrison website, there is nothing on the CDs that state they are copy protected.
NB CDs play ok on CD players & also on a windows laptop.

  • Copy Protection for home movies

I have a small video recording business. I taped a ballet recital and will sell the videos to the parents. I would like to know if there is a way that I can copy protect these so they can not make copies of them.
    thanks

And as Sue has already pointed out, if any of us can easily download the software to rip a commercial DVD to our computers that have millions of industry dollars behind the copy protection techniques on them, what makes you think that your home produced DVDs would be any safer?
Usually the best thing to do is get in the mind set that you are providing a service (capturing a moment in time) and an initial product (that moment presented on a DVD with nice menus and such), but you are not a production house that makes their money off number of units moved. My guess is for something like a ballet recital, the parents are not all going to get together and buy a single copy and then make copies among themselves. Instead they will likely all buy their own copy and any additional copies they make would be sent to grandparents and things like that. And if you somehow made it uncopyable, then likely they would not come back to you to purchase additional copies but either not send a copy to Grandma or just dub a version to video tape.
In other words, I think in these small business situations, the initial buyers are likely to buy anyway and the subsequent copies wanted wouldn't be through you anyway. So you are basically trying to protect against something that isn't going to affect you anyway.
Just my opinion as a parent who has bought DVDs of various kids things from the "pros" who put them together (e.g. cheerleading competitions, etc.) but would never buy additional copies from those same people at the same price (I consider the price I paid to be for the service, not the actual copy).

  • Cannot Play or Copy an EMI CD with Copy Protection

Today I purchased "warnings, promises" by Idlewild.
The disc was purchased new from BMG online and there was no mention of copy-protection on the web site.
On this disc (from EMI) it says "Copy Controlled".
When I place it in my mac drive it sees it as a data disk, but not a music disc.
ITunes cannot play it or burn it.
Any thoughts on how I can play this music that I legally purchased?
    Chris

I had a similar problem with the latest Jackson Browne CD, I sent feedback to EMI but I doubt it will make any difference. My CD plays but with audible drop outs on the Mac, won't play at all on a DVD player I have but will play on a 20 year old Cambridge CD2 player. If it plays on a normal CD player you could record it to your HD by connecting the tape out of your hi-fi to the Mac. I do this with vinyl but it works just as well with CD. You need audio software to edit the file, I use Sound Studio from www.felttip.com. You can download a fully functional 15 day trial from their website. In addition to the software you need an RCA to 3.5mm audio plug cable

  • DVD rip from copy protected dvds

I am trying to rip my tv shows i purchased on dvd to my ipod... i have a macbook pro... its new and i am used to windows. I searched through the forums to find a software to allow the decryption... but all i found was windows software.
MacBook Pro 17   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   i have no idea what the inside of my computer is

I have a 30GB video iPod and a Powerbook. I use a program called DVD2Pod. It's free and it's awesome, easy, and quick. The link to the download is http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20275.
I've used it to rip my DVDs of both TV shows and feature length movies. It's a great program.

  • DVD +Copyright/copy protection

I am a sports videographer. I use Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 to edit and burn game dvds for my customers. My customers are telling me that they are unable to take clips off my dvds to create highlight dvds or video files to send to college coaches on the internet because my dvds are somehow "copyright protected" or copymaking proof signal embedded or whatever the technical term is for what is keeping them from achieving their project. I am not wittingly clicking on any feature to make this happen on purpose. I tried to find the problem and solution in the manual but could not find anything. I hope I am describing my dilemma correctly. Is there a way to disengage this feature so that my customers can do anything they want with the footage on the dvds I make for them?  Thank you for your help.

    Welcome to the forum.
As ATR states, PrE cannot create a DVD-Video with Copy Protection. No burned DVD-Video can have Copy Protection, as such, but only replicated DVD's, and PrE is not capable of producing such material, even if one is going to a replication house. That is not the issue here.
Now, are you providing the clients with DVD-Video (with the VIDEO_TS folder structure, to be played on a computer with DVD software, or from a set-top DVD player hooked to a TV), or are you providing DVD-Data discs, where you are just Copying the AV files to a DVD disc, for distribution? The discs would look the same, but have different folder structures burned onto them.
How are your clients trying to extract the files? With a DVD-Video, the media files will be in a VOB container, and those might need to be ripped from the DVD-Video, to be used. PrE can do that ripping, providing that the DVD-Video is 100% DVD-compatible. The VOB's created by PrE should be 100% DVD-compatible. Not all NLE (Non Linear Editor) programs CAN Import and work with VOB's. In those cases, other software is needed to rip the MPEG-2 DVD AV files from the VOB containers, to Import and edit those. This might mean an additional step for the clients, but that will depend on the software that they have access to, and might differ, client to client.
As a test, though limited to PrE, I would take one of your DVD's, Copy the VIDEO_TS folder to an internal HDD, then Open a New Project in PrE (NTSC, or PAL DV would be the desired Project Preset, and either Standard 4:3, or Widescreen 16:9, depending on which you shot), and then Import the VOB's into that Project. Do you get any errors? Remember, that will ONLY tell you, if you have created the VOB's, such that PrE can Import those. Depending on the clients' software, they might, or might not be able to use the VOB's directly.
Good luck, and sorry to add more questions to ATR's, but the answers to all, might tell the story.

  • DVD created with Encore won't play on Mac

    Hey,
I recently created a DVD with Encore. Everything went perfect, the DVD played flawless on a standalone player and with Power DVD and Windows Media Player on a Windows PC.
But now a client reported, that the DVD does not play on a MAC using Apple's DVD player.
We rechecked it and the same error occured.
The Popup says that the Copy protection of the dvd could not be veryfied.
I burned it using a regular DVD Burner, so there can not be any copy protection, right?
What can I do, so my future DVDs will play everywhere?

That is correct, you may not burn a DVD with copy protection

What brand of blank disc, and what burn speed?
Some people "scoff" at the idea, but others here advise to use one of a few brands of blank disc... and to burn at the slowest possible speed setting so the "laser holes" made during the burn process are well shaped
What I always do is create an ISO out of Encore and then use the FREE http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write files or folders or ISO to disc for DVD or BluRay (send the author a PayPal donation if you like his program)

  • Copy protection problem

premeire elements has been working.  Now I cann add media from a dvd beause elements indicates these dvd are copy protected but are not.  Loads ok on another computer with premiere elements.  Have reloaded program but this did not help.
Is this an adobe programs, or bad dvd drive or registry problem.
    Thanks

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
Further details from you will define the issue.
I wonder if you have a problem or if you are just misinterpreting what you are seeing.
Pending the necessary details from you, I will use Premiere Elements 12 Windows 7 64 bit in the following example.
No matter what DVD you insert into the burner tray and then use Premiere Elements Add Media/"DVD Camera or Computer Drive"/
Video Importer, you will be greeted by the following dialog before the Video Importer is available for use
With your full knowledge that your DVD is not copy protected, you should be able to click OK, have the Video Importer
open and become populated with the thumbnails for your VOBs.
Are you seeing this dialog under the circumstances? Are you clicking OK? And what happens after
that as you wait for the Video Importer to open the files in its dialog (may take time)?
That message is not telling you that your DVD is copy protected. It is just telling you "just in case". In your case,
if you know for sure not copy protected, then you are OK.
What versions of Premiere Elements and on what computers are involved in your comparison of the "will" and the "will not"
    here?
    Thanks.

  • Trying to rip dvd's with no luck!

I am an actor who is in some big budget movies, and I am trying to rip some scenes from the movies.I have read alot of the posts, downloaded free software, tried to rip it from my toast titanium software, but I am having no luck. I have been editing on iMovie but will be switching to Final Cut Pro soon. Is there any easy way of doing this? I know the DVD's are copy protected , but I am not trying to rip the whole movie.
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Hey Doug,
Besides the legal issues, the quality off of a DVD is not going to be as good as going straight to the source. If you're in the movies, why don't you contact the producers for a master copy? Isn't that part of your pay anyway?

  • Copy Protected CDs - Question

    Hi -
I have just started to load my CD collection into iTunes my question is about copy protected CDs - I am worried in case by accident I put one into my iMac. Do the new up-to-date iMacs still have an issue with copy protected CDs causing them to lock? If so how do you tell one is copy protected? I have a Celine Dion one - A New Day Has Come - don't like her myself but my Dad is very keen on her and so I wanted to add that one however I understand that her CD is one of those that is copy protected although I cannot see anything on the disc that indicates it is copy protected.
If I do get one stuck is it easy to get it out?
    Can anyone advise.
    Thanks

Mac OS: Cannot Eject Copy Protected Audio Disc, Computer Starts Up to Gray Screen
Please read this article and be absolutely sure that you have an emergency eject hole on your computer's optical drive. If your computer is an Intel-based Mac, note that booting into Open Firmware to use the eject cd command is not an option.
If the disc in question is copy-protected, there should be text and/or graphics on the back cover as well as on the label of the disc itself to that effect. Sometimes, depending on the copy control strategy used, you can see a clearly visible line on the data side of the disc making it obvious that it's a multi-session disc.

  • I am trying to get a good copy of my home video on DVD using IDVD.  On editing the video all the viewing screens show the video perfectly in HD.  When I burn the video to DVD all the end results are buzzy with squiggly lines.  Any fix?  Thanks?

    Hi
There are several layers to this Q
    A. There are no HD in DVD - DVD is as standard only SD-Video what ever tools used to produce it !
iDVD or DVD-Studio Pro or Roxio Toast™ - will only make SD-Video on DVD
    B. DVD can be better or worse
    • Using "Share to iDVD" is no good way - Better is Share to Media Browser and as Large (NOT HD as result will be worse)
    • Using iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - are not tools to chose if highes quality is of importance - iMovie up to HD6 or FinalCut any version is far better as they send over all lines to iDVD and not only every second one.
    • Using Right encoder quality depending on movie and Manu duration is very important
    • Use of high quality brand of DVD - is important - I use Verbatim DVD-R
    • Type of DVD - DVD-R plays on more DVD-Players (even old ones)
    • Burn speed - I set it down to x4 - resulting in less burn errors - plays on more players
    • I secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up Mac OS hard disk as iDVD and Mac OS needs this and it can not be taked from other hard disks - has to be here.
    • What You feed iDVD does matter
    Video codecs
    Audio file formats
    Photo file formats

  • Copy-Protecting DVDs against piracy in DVD Studio Pro; or otherwise ?

Copy-Protecting DVDs against piracy in DVD Studio Pro; or otherwise ?
I'm about to start encoding to MPEG2 a very important project that I've edited in Final Cut Pro.
It is vital that it cannot be copied by the client or I could lose a lot of money.
In the past this has never been a concern, but in this case it is very important.
What is the best way to prevent a client/people from copying your DVDs?
Is there anything I can do within DVD Studio Pro or is there anything the Replication house can do at the Glass-Mastering stage?
I'm sure this topic has been covered, but a quick search found nothing.
    Thanks guys.

Common problem but no easy answer. It's simply too easy to get around.
If you want to prevent finished master disks being copied in the same way commercial disks are then you will need to get them made at a duplication facility. Not cheap. You can't do it in DVD studio, it's to do with the disk burner.
On a feature film it is very important to prevent copies of work in progress. What a lot of cutting rooms do is make dvd's with the name of the person burnt in and a copy number. Often a large X with 30% opacity is put in the middle of frame.
This can't stop copies being made but at least you will know where they came from. It also seems to make the person who's name is burnt in take more care.
Sorry but thats the best I can offer.

  • Copy Protect when I try and create a DVD

Help please. I created a movie using FCE 1.0. I then "printed to video" to capture the final movie on a Sony Hi8 Camcorder with Firewire. I then tried to create a DVD by connecting the camcorder to a Philips DVD Recorder using the standard RCA jacks. The recorder shows the message "Copy Protected" and will not record the movie. Is this a setting within FCE or the content?
    Help!

Really not sure about this, but I doubt it's anything to do with FCE. Is it some copy protection built into the DVD recorder? I.e to stop you copying DVDs. Does the DVD Recorder normally work with this jacks? Is there any other way to connect to the recorder?

  • The disc copy protection could not be verified [-70025] macbook dvd error

    Hi all,
I've a 3 month old macbook but for some reason it's unable to play any genuine, retail dvds. I just get this error message: the disc copy protection could not be verified [-70025]. Front Row just quits and VLC is unpredictable.
Ironically, backup dvds of the same films work fine. Ive tried reseting the vmc and pram, reinstalling tiger then leopard from fresh installs and getting all necessary software updates. Nothing. Could this be the dreaded firmware superdrive update?
Any advice/help would be much appreciated

there are more users with that problem:

  • Problem with copied DVDs--"DAMAGED TS FOLDER" (HELP or I shall go MAD!)

Hi folks--really, really hope someone can help me. This has got me beat. And I'm by no means sure it's a problem with my computer, but...
    The facts:
    1. I recently acquired a Panasonic DMR-ES20 DVD recorder, primarily to make DVD copies of a number of old and treasured videotapes. These are from broadcast, so copy protection isn't a factor.
    2. I often use my Mac as a TV to watch DVDs and have never had the slightest problem with commercial DVDs.
    3. I am (or was) using Roxio's Popcorn 2 program to make up backup copies of the DVDs I make.
    4. I made about 20 DVDs without problem, and ALL work perfectly on the Imac, and ALL can be copied via Popcorn 2.
    5. Then, SOMETHING CHANGED, I have no idea what--but now, each and every DVD I make with the Panasonic shows up on the Imac as follows:
"The TS folder appears to be damaged."
These disks will NOT play on the Imac and cannot be copied with Popcorn 2. They DO play on the Panasonic machine, however.
    6. I have tried varying media, including high-quality Taiyo Yuden disks. That didn't help.
    7. I have reset the recorder to original factory settings. That didn't help.
    8. I have used a disk lens cleaner on the Imac. That didn't help.
    9. I have spoken with Applecare and (God help me) Panasonic. Both pronounced themselves baffled.
    10. As am I. As things stand, I've got a lot of more or less useless equipment. Ideas? Hints? Suggestions?
    2 GZ PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
    2 GZ PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
    2 GZ PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

The only time I have ever expierianced an issue like this is from doing extensive burning. The cause is from the storage of the cache files and some of the older TS folders even after you trashed them from your machine after you burned.
The only way I have been able to work around this is
First Repair Permissions as is submitted by Gulliver.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607640&#607640
I have also found that by running 3 freeware or shareware programs one right after the other and after the 3rd it will restart your computer all is well when I do it.
    First run Macjanitor.
    http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_hill/downloads.html
    Next run Cache Out X.
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14850
And last but not least is ONYX.
take note when you run Cache out X and Onyx be careful to not delete your favorites in your browsers.
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20070
A note of interest, I have had to do this after I have done a lot of copying to get rid of all the excesive junk that is left behind.
    Give it a try.
    Good Luck Don
