DVD-R help

Is Maxell DVD-R with gold label any good for making movies?

I dont understand what you are saying about burning
only to 4x dvd's.
Are you saying that iDVD will not burn 8x DVD's and
play ok on DVD players?
Experience here has shown that DVDs burned at lower speeds (4x and lower) tend to be more compatable with a variety of set-top DVD players because they contain fewer burn-errors. Computer DVD players have the error correction to handle these errors, set-top players don't.
iDVD does not offer burn speed options, but burning a disk image of the completed project to writable media using Apple's Disk Utility application DOES offer speed options.

I copied a lot of photos from an iphone to a DVD using a Windows 7 laptop, now I cannot access those photos on the DVD. HELP! In Windows Exlporer I can see the data on the disk in the details but when I click on it nothing appears as if there is nothing on it.

It should. So they aren't shown in the Last Import smart album, right? Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.

It sounds like the superdrive is bad. The only other thing you can do is try to put it back in again. Some times the 3rd time works. None the less it will need to be replaced.

  • DVD Error (help!)

hallo. the reason i am writing today is because i am getting the following error message when i insert a dvd that i just rented from my local retailer:
"You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OS X can read. To continue with the disk inserted, click ignore."
i don't understand why this is coming up all of a sudden. i just played a few other dvd's last weekend and nothing bad at all happened. my retail cd's play nicely in the drive, i also have no problems playing burned cd-r's, and no problems burning them in itunes. as this isn't a superdrive (i have a combo), i cannot burn dvd's, so this isn't related to burning--only playing.
normally when i insert a dvd, the player automatically comes up and starts playing, per my system preferences (which i've checked and they are still the same). now it isn't launching at all. when i manually launch the player, everything about it is fine, but it doesn't "see" that there is a dvd inserted in the drive.
i thought that maybe it was because it was the wrong region coding, but the dvd i'm trying to watch is region 1. then i thought it was because it was dirty, but when cleaned the same thing happens. then i tried playing a dvd of my own that i know should work because i've watched it a million times w/o any problems, and i get the same message (my dvd's are kept crystal clean).
i am using a 12" powerbook g4 with (now) os x 10.3.9 (just upgraded this morning--was prev. using 10.3.4 i think???). in the system profiler under "ata" it's reading that there is a matshita cd-rw cw-8123 drive, and under "drive type" is "cd-rw/dvd-rom" so i don't see anything wrong.
i don't know if this has anything to do with anything, but the other day i updated my version of itunes to ver 6.0.2 using the system updater, tried to upgrade to quicktime 7 (the freebie on the apple website) but it said that it wouldn't mount (???) so i threw it away (i think it was because it requires 10.3.9 which i hadn't updated to yet), added disk utility to the dock so my roommate could deal with her cd-rw's (previous to this week my computer had only burned cd-r's), and downloaded macscan from securemac.com.
other than quicktime, i had not encountered any problems of any kind during the installations and updates. then last night i tried playing the dvd and it wouldn't play due to the error above. i thought that maybe something got lost during the updates so i upgraded to 10.3.9 and that didn't help. then i upgraded to itunes 6.0.3 thinking that maybe something in the previous itunes upgrade killed my dvd drivers while they were asleep (itunes has been know to do things like that, you know!) and that didn't work. (can't say i'm totally surprised, it was a little far fetched...but itunes is pretty vicious.)
now i'm plumb out of ideas. does anyone have any suggestions? has anyone else encountered this before? i'm really hoping to have my question answered here, as i'm sick with the flu and don't have the energy to call apple or run all over town trying to get this fixed. if somebody has a fix for this here, i'd really appreicate it. cheers all. kj.

    Hey Kristov,
Reload OS X 10.4 from disc using the "archive and install" option. It will force you to choose between that and "erase and install," anyway. Repair disc permissions. Update all your software, but avoid the OS X 10.4.5 Combo update. Go to "Downloads" and get the update to OS X 10.4.4. Repair disc permissions again. Get the OS X 10.4.5 update and, again, repair disc permissions. Everything should work just fine after that. It may be that you can abbreviate the process I described, but after reading a bunch of posts both here, on Macfixit, and on Macintouch, I decided it was the only way to ensure the problem didn't recur. In fact, although I doubt it made a difference, I repaired disc permissions both after each download and after each subsequent restart to finish update installation. In any case, I now have all the latest updates and my machine is working better than ever, no kidding, including DVD Player.
    Good Luck,
    Jonathan

  • HP 4540s will not activate windows 8 from HP recovery dvds, please help

    Hi,
I'm trying to migrate my HP from the harddrive to a new ssd I bought. As far as I know windows 8 is supposed to activate based on the code burned into the machines bios, so I bought some hp recovery dvds online as HP recovery manager no longer seems to ship with these machines, so I couldn't make one, and reinstalled windows 8 onto the machine.  After install and connecting to the internet the activation failed, it said the key was blocked.  This can't be, this machine came with windows 8 preinstalled, so it must have a valid key and license I've already paid for.
I've tried burning reinstall media using the microsoft media creation tool but that too fails once it connects to the internet to validate the activation
I would prefer to fresh reinstall, I'm not even sure the drive I took out works anymore or isn't altered at this point, plus its larger than my ssd so cloning would be a problem. And I've also read of problems cloning windows 8 secure boot installs regardless.  In any case I would like to some how be able to get this recovery to work.
Can someone from HP please help me.
    Thanks.

  • Changing dvd drive help

I have a presario S7150 and want to change dvd/cd rom drive. New drive is S ATA old one is IDE, cant find where to plug the SATA cable into .
Do I need an adapter or is there a place to plug in on the motherboard and if so where.

That motherboard does not have SATA ports: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00100539&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en...
    There are choices, however.
    1) Install a PCI adapter card:

    2) Get a different  DVD drive.  They still have IDE drives available:

    3) Get an enclosure for the drive that was purchased to make it USB:

    4) replace motherboard with newer device interfaces (not recommended for you hardware)

  • I can't get my saved info off of the dvd's. help me please

hi  i had to have my HP G56 notebook pc restored 2 days ago.  i saved all my pictures & documents to DVD'S, like cyberlink said to do.  how do i
get my pictures & info back from the DVD'S ??  i tried the restore my
files, & it put a second one on the desktop.  i am so lost & need help.
three weeks ago i was hacked in my email, then hit hard in my microsoft
security essentials; whatever it was damaged my drivers.  they have all
been fixed thru HP.  microsoft did their part.  so far, so good as i'm
double protected, i think.  operating system:  windows 7 home premium.
can anyone there help me to restore my pictures & info on the DVD'S ??
    thank you, bambeyette

Thank you, Allen.  My iMac is a 2009.  I can't shine a light into the disc drive slot as it has a built in whisker cover that prevents anything from getting in.  It will accept a disc half way in before the disc reaches a springy obstruction.
About 3 weeks ago, the computer locked up so I inserted the OS disc and reinstalled it.  In general, the computer works just like it used to but we've had a few quirks appear; for example, this is one of them.  Also, we can't figure out how to keep from having to sign-in when we turn the computer on.  Also, we can't access our one on-line account anymore.  Very strange.

  • Final Cut Exporting to DVD Settings Help!

Hello, all. Hopefully someone can help me with this problem that I have been struggling with for weeks.
I shot a video project in standard definition on a Sony VX2000, then edited it in Final Cut Express. I am now wondering what the best export settings would be in order to put it onto a DVD, and maintain the quality at 100 percent. I've tried exporting it in several different ways, but no matter what I do, the quality is never as good as it was shot.
So, what should the export settings be from Final Cut? And do you think I need to use a different software to maintain perfect quality on a DVD?
    Thanks so much

You need to ask this question on the FCE forum

  • Hard drive from G3 to G4, can't get it to recognize DVD drive, HELP!

Hi, the hard drive in my G4 laptop went kaput so I replaced it with the one from my old G3 (I cannot afford new parts). That HD had OS X 3.9 installed on it and seems to run fine, however, the old computer didn't have a DVD player and now since I put the HD on this one that does, it doesn't recognize it. It seemed to detect all the new aspects of the newer computer like how much ram it has and the processor speed, but it still says it has the old CD-rom drive. Can I do this without wiping the HD and reinstalling OS X because I don't have the installation disks and cannot afford to purchase any? Is there something I can run to auto-detect it? It is crucial that I get this working, I have kids and this computer was our only TV/DVD player! Any ideas? Thank you! In case it helps, the system profiler says this (The model should say DVD too, right?):
    ATA-3 Bus:
    MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8123:
    Manufacturer: MATSHITA
    Model: MATSHITA CD-RW CW-** <Edited by Moderator>
    Revision: CA0T
    Serial Number:
    Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-ROM
    Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped
    Removable Media: Yes
    Detachable Drive: No
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit Number: 0
    Socket Type: Internal

I don't know how hardware specific OSX installations are but you're jumping a bit from G3 to G4. I also take it you had some version of OSX on this G4 before as otherwise it may need a Firmware update.
You can try resetting the PRAM and/or CUDA to get the computer to have a fresh look at hardware present.

Failing those, you could try installing Patchburn and see if it helps.

    PowerBook G4 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

also it states "panic at the bottom.
Will i be able to sort this problem if i had the original disks so i can reinstall everything.ive tried to install copies of classic and jaguar-no luck.
can you give me directions into ways of re-booting/safe mode/target mode.or is all of this a waiste of time if i don not have the orighinal disks that came with my powerbook.do you know anywhere where i can get a copy from.

  • Cant Import DVDs. Help!!!

I cant download movies that I have on DVD already. The burn disc doesnt appear at the bottom right like it does with music that I have on CD. Please Help!!!

As mentioned, iTunes does not convert the software. But I am a barely intermediate user and found some great information out on the web. I now have 3 of my DVD's on my iPod. I feel skeptical about offering too much help on this forum as I do not think we are supposed to, but I will say Videora is great for putting the files into a smaller, usable format for iPods. You will need software to put the DVD on your computer first though. I use DVD decryptyer. Get both of those programs and then go into the "how to convert" section or something like that and it gives pictured details of how to decode and convert. Using dvd decrypter and videora.
Remember, if its not your DVD its illegal. You must own it.

  • DVD Player help

I am using OS 10.3.9 and have a few question about the dvd player application.
    1. How do I get widescreen recordings to playback in widescreen on my monitor. I know my monitor is not widescreen, but the dvd window can be smaller than the screen, so is it therfore possible to have a widescreen shaped display window?
    2. I find the dvd controls very limiting. For example, when you want to picture search you have to keep the mouse button held down, and the picture search mode is quite slow - about 2x. Is there any extra functions related to this that I am not seeing?
    Thanks in advance.
    David

The keyboard controls for picture search are a great help.
If the dvd has been recorded in widescreen on another machine, doesnt matter if i playback in a small window or full screen, the people are the wrong shape. Its not bad enough to stopo you using it, but home tv's in the UK have a "widescreen button" to manually adjust the aspect ratio between 4:3 and 16:9 widescreen. If I had this on Apple's software dvd player it would be perfect.

  • Glitches/dropout on burned DVD.  HELP!!

    Hello all,
Great forum. Really hope someone can help.
My problem is that I have burned using DVDSP3 onto verbatim DVD-R using a superdrive.
On the finished product there are several glitches that look like dropout of some sort ie. blockey distortion. It only seems to effect the video and not audio. It also seems to happen near the end of the disk. I have buned several copies and each one has the same problem but at different points. This makes me think that it's the actuall type of DVD that I'm using as my output media. If so can anyone reccomend a type of DVD. I dont get this problem with simulator.
It's a live music concert so I haven't compressed the audio.
    It's a big file - 4.3gb mpg2, 107mins approx.
Would this have anything to do with it.
Another quickie, is how much does AC-3 compression affect the audio in terms of file size and quality. What AC-3 setting should I use for optimum size/quality.
It's already late for release and I'm starting to loose my mind. Help!

Where do I reduce the data rate and what settings ahould I use for this?
I did mean to keep the vision as is, and just replace the sound with an .ac3, which would lower the overall data rate by about 1Mbps. I'd assumed you were about to try this! See lots of previous posts - search for 'bit rate too high' et c. Hopefully, this should mostly sort out your problem.
..been advised that it could be the burn speed set too high causing ..
Have a look at the thread burn speed
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=514623
...does the disk quality affect a final product?
Yes it does. Find a brand partly by trial & error for your burner; but do use a named branded product. Verbatim & Ritek are good starting points.

  • Burn mp3's to DVD. Help!!!

I record Bible lectures for my Mom to listen to. If I continuously record I will split the tracts up, using audacity, into various talks and save as mp3's. They import into iTunes just fine and I can even burn them to CD's for her to use.
My problem is that she is older and has no computer, and does not want to learn anything else other than if they will work in her DVD player. The CD's work just fine, but it takes quite a lot some times. I have tried to burn them to a DVD, but it will not work.
Her player does read mp3's, even from the CD's I have burned in the past. I was hoping to get them all on 1 or 2 DVD's instead of the multiple CD's that it is taking now.
Is there a suggestion as to what I can use to get the mp3's onto a DVD that will work? I have used several setting within iTunes but so far I have not been successful.
    Thanks for everyones help.

    Use iTunes.
Do it as you normally burn an MP3 CD except select Data CD/DVD.
Make sure you add only MP3 files to this playlist.
