If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.
    Current user is administrator.

If anyone has a solution for this stupid problem that would be great.
    Thanks

Yes, I suspect that it's the virtual drive emulator software you have there. I know nothing about that software and it doesn't look like the Roxio support page even mentions it, so it's probably software old enough that they're not supporting it anymore.
To uninstall any software, I would start with the "Add and Remove Programs" Control Panel. Uninstall it there, and then use the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility —
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301
Download and install that. Run it and find the drive emulator software on the list and remove it there. And reboot and see if that has successfully removed it.
There is a work around that if we just remove the iTunes CD driver, you'll probably get your drive back, but you'll only be able to rip CDs, you won't be able to burn them without the iTunes CD driver installed. You do have some Pinnacle CD burning software installed. Are you currently using that or is that leftover cruft as well?

  • External dvd drive won't work on USB macBook air

External dvd drive won't work on my macBook air usb port.  It works on older versions of air and iMac.
Any ideas.  Tried the left shift, control, option and power button sumultaniously, but did not work.

I know that no one has replied yet, but figured out the issue.  I called Applecare and they couldn't figure it out, so sent me to a genuis at the Apple store.  They too couldn't figure it out and told me that it was a firmware issue with the Toshiba dvd external drive.  When I got home, I thought I would try one more thing.  I hooked it up to a powered hub and it works perfectly.  I'm not sure why no one else thought of it, but glad that I did.

  • I installed iTunes 10.5.3.3 and now my DVD player won't work.

I installed iTunes 10.5.3.3 and now my DVD player won't work and has this error:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
Any ideas why iTunes renders my DVD drive unusable?  I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and when reinstalling I had my device manager open and saw during the installation how my DVD player went from accessible to not being able to start.
    Why is this happening?
    Here is my computer information:
    Dell
    Latitude D630
Intel Core  Duo CPU T770 @2.40 Hz
    4.00 GB RAM
    32-bit Operating System
    Thank you,

There's a few different possibilities with a code 10, Kelly. To narrow in on the likeliest culprits it would help to have a closer look at your system.
Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.

  • So, now my CD/DVD drive won't work

I made the BIG mistake of upgrading to LION last week.   Up until that moment, EVERYTHING was working fine on my MAC.   I downloaded the software just fine but when I went to install it I received a message saying my hard drive was full.   I'm sure that I had plenty of room left and would have thought that if it was full I would have received that message PRIOR to the download.   Nevertheless, I tried it again.  This time I received a message saying that there was something wrong with my hard drive and it needed repairing.   I did the verification and tried to do the repair but it wouldn't work.
Made an appointment with the Apple Store, (at least I live near a store), and they went through all the diagnostics and said, "There is nothing wrong with your hard drive yet we are unable to install the upgrade ... meaning that my computer will not function.  I had to buy a new hard drive and have them install LION on it.   Before I left the store I told the tech guy that I'd like to turn it on to make sure it would work ... guess what ... it wouldn't.   "I can't understand it", he said, "It was working just fine a few minutes ago."   I had him try it a few more times and then he advised me that they'd have to do it again and for me to come back (again).
So, now I have a new hard drive and a new operating system ... but I had to pay for it in cash, frustration, time, and lost data (my email archive mostly) ... BUT ... now my CD/DVD drive won't work.   I've had to reload software with an external drive.
    What the **** ????
Anyone with some thoughts on this?
(Plus I've had to create a new MAC ID?   Why won't it accept my old account ID?)

Thank you again ... I wasn't aware of that bit of information.
I've never used Toast before but have heard of it.  I just went to their website and watched a quick video.  I'm a tad confused though ... is Toast able to rip movie DVD's before burning a copy?   I used to have some software that could do this but, of course, it's now gone with my new hard drive.

iTunes 10.7 does indeed work on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Do you mean you have Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard? If so, and you updated your iPhone 4S to iOS 6 on some other computer, then you may be out of luck synching to your 10.5.8 system, but you can get and try 10.6.3 here:

What's wrong with Apple's "guided tours"?  They won't work on my computer OR my ipad???

The videos all work fine for me. The functioning and performance of these videos have nothing to do with Adobe.
When problems with video appear they often are related to temporary Internet slowdowns or just poor Internet bandwidth.

  • DVD drive won't work after Mavericks upgrade

I upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard, and ever since, my CD/DVD drive will not work.  Discs spin, but then they are ejected.  Doesn't matter what type of disc I put in.
The drive was working fine before I upgraded.  I have reset the SMC and the NVRAM/PRAM, but the drive still isn't working.
Any suggestions for what else I can try?

Others here wouldnt recommend it, but on a new OS install, since I have a giant pile of HD, ...i just grab another HD and create a new fresh Time Machine backup
after its complete, I take the original HD with the OLD backup and format/erase it.
Im a tad too lazy to wait, as you yourself mentioned,  1 hour for TM just to PREPARE to backup. Nope, no,...not gonna do it.
I updated 4 Macs to Mavericks and id rather make a wholly NEW Time Machine backup on another HD and erase the original.
Since I keep about 12+ redundant archives of my important data, I have no worry on earth of ever losing data.
Time machine is a backup, NOT an archive for vital data.

  • DVD player won't work on OSX 10.9.1

When I loaded OS X 10.9.1, I am now unable to play videos on my MacBook Pro.  Is there any updates so I can get it to work?

I upgraded to OSX Mavericks (10.9.1) on my MacBook Pro last Wednesday, January 8th, and since then I am also having the same issue with my DVD player not working since the upgrade.  There are no error messages, the drive just kicks out the DVD. CD's work fine, though.  And yes, I have checked my settings in the System Preferences and they are all set correctly.
Any help would be appreciated, but I may just end up taking my laptop to the Apple Store geniuses to see if they can sort it out...

  • Dvd player won't work...ejects them

My dvd player will not work.  Everytime I put one in, it spits it right back out.

You may be able to get the bottom replaced by Apple at no cost - some of the newer white MacBooks had this issue.
    More information on that here
As for replacing the drive, here's a guide for doing the replacement yourself, and here is a link for a replacement drive.
Looks like the cost is $90 right now.
You can get a portable external for ~$55, like this LaCie from OWC.
With regard to your current optical drive - make sure the discs you've tried work OK in other computers or in stand alone DVD players. If they do, that definitely indicates yours is dead or dying.
CDs may still work though so if you have any CDs handy, it would be worth trying a few to see if it will accept them.
Hopefully this helps you a bit - if you have more questions, please do ask!

  • Help Ipod won't work with my computer anymore!

I have a 5th gen Ipod and it has been working fine for the first month I've had it but recently I can't seem to get it to work with Itunes or even be detected on my computer. I've already tried all the things it says to do on the support page and none of it seems to be working. I've reinstalled everything and tried the Ipod updater but it won't work. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what should I do? Is there any way I can just get a new Ipod since I've only had this one for a month?

  • CD/DVD drive won't work!

I've been having problems with the optical drive on my iMac. This evening I tried to put a disc in, and it simply wouldn't acknowledge the disc. It wouldn't even suck the disc in... it just didn't do anything at all.
I searched these forums, and found a few suggestions (such as unplugging the computer and then restarting), but nothing seems to work.
Then, after a bit more trying, the disc I was using got stuck in the drive. It still won't read it, and now I can't even eject it. I've tried restarting a number of times, and the only thing that has happened is once it displayed the "You have inserted a blank CD, what do you want to do?" screen. However, it wouldn't let me eject the disc from here either.
    Any suggestions?
Also, on previous threads, people suggested that this could be an issue with the individual discs. This shouldn't be the issue here. I tried a couple of different discse-- one was the Aperture install disc (brand new), and the other one I tried was my 10.5 install disc. We're not dealing with irregular sized discs or burned discs-- just normal DVD/CDs manufactured by Apple.

If I have to bring it in to get it replaced I'm gonna be very upset. This shouldn't be a problem. If all they can tell you is to do "numerous restarts and shutdowns" to fix it, then there's really something wrong. I've done the restart/shutdown thing and even did some PRM(I don't know if this is right) restart thing I read in some other posts about a malfunctioning superdrive. It seems to help the iMac recognize the Superdrive. But after successfully burning a music CD in iTunes, the superdrive fails again when attempting to burn another CD. Then I have to do another reset to get the Superdrive functioning again. It's not like I overuse my superdrive. I've only burned maybe 10 music cds and 5 movie dvds. Don't get me wrong...I love my iMac but having a wack superdrive is unacceptable for this machine.
I don't have AppleCare because I didn't expect the superdrive or anything in this machine to malfunction so quickly. If my best option is to buy an external drive then so be it. I won't overpay to have another wack Matsu(piece-of)****-a replace the old one.
