DVD-spec m2v needs no transcode in 1.5 but does in 2.0??

I have a large amount of m2v files that work flawlessly in encore DVD 1.5 with no transcoding needed ("don't transcode") and they are burned fine and work flawlessly.
However, in Encore DVD 2.0, I am forced to transcode the files. The "don't transcode" button is grayed out. This makes NO sense because they are DVD spec. Even with a fresh project file made with 2.0 they still refuse to build the DVD without transcoding the video. I have neither the time or the desire for quality loss to re-transcode every single mpeg2 video file.

This is ridiculous!!!
Is there no definate setting to encode mpegs and bring them in with transcoding "for the second time" in Encore?! It's nuts!!! I just spent hundreds of pounds buying Encore 2 after having used 1.5 extensively. I no longer have access to 1.5, and I'm using Adobe 6.5 with the Canopus Soft MPEG Encoder to export my video. Unfortunatly for me, this means I'm due to loose £1000 of business this week! Unless I can find a way to export MPEGs from Premiere. Exporting to an AVI, and then transcoding in Encore is not an option with the volume of projects I get. I need to be able to encode things once and move on. Am I really going to have to send Encore 2 back and buy something else? I specifically wanted the menu building functions that integrate with Photoshop, which save me many hours.
Someone please help, I am SOOOO dissappointed!

  • HT1347 I have an mp3 DVD with episodes of Gunsmoke.  iTunes imports them, but does not sort them correctly by date or episode.  One file name is GS 52-04-26 001 Billy the Kid.mp3

I have an mp3 DVD with episodes of Gunsmoke.  iTunes imports them, but does not sort them correctly by date or episode.  One file name is GS 52-04-26 001 Billy the Kid.mp3.  iTunes sorts them by month/day/year.  How can I fix that?

The weird thing is, it worked before. I encoded all the videos previously and had them all listed and didn't encounter this problem, but I noticed I'd forgotten to decomb/detelecine the videos so I deleted everything and re-encoded it all. AFter filling the tags out and setting poster frames again I was thinking of making life easier by just pasting the same artwork for every episode, so I did, but didn't like the results so I deleted it again (I selected every video, used Get Info and pasted the artwork that way).
I think it was after this that the problem started to occur. In any case I've been through every episode and made sure the name, series, episode and episode id fields are all filled in with incremental values and they are. I even made sure the Sort Name field was filled in on every video. But this didn't work either.
So, thinking another restart was needed I deleted every video again. Re-encoded them all, again. Set the tags for every video and poster frame again. Finished it all off nicely, checked cover flow and was highly annoyed to find it was STILL showing the same two pieces of art work for every video as shown in that image I posted.
Ultimately, I wouldn't care so much that cover flow is screwing up like this as I always intended to sort by program anyway so it would only ever display one piece of artwork for an entire series of videos, however where-as when it was working it picked the artwork for the first episode of a series to display, its instead picking one of the latter episodes. I can't seem to find any way of choosing what artwork I want displayed.

  • What is the advantage of exporting mpeg-dvd vs mpeg for dvd if mpeg does not need to transcode audio

What is the advantage of exporting mpeg-dvd vs mpeg for dvd if mpeg does not need to transcode audio and also burns to dvd?

The MPEG2-DVD preset also produces a DVD spec-legal file.  If you use the generic MPEG2 preset, you can too easily create an out-of-spec file that will have to be re-transcoded by En.

  • Which Install DVD do I need to upgrade from Tiger to Leopard?

I have the (late 2005) iBook G4 1.42 GHz, upgraded to 1.5 GB RAM.  I am currently running Mac OS 10.4.11 Tiger, and I have the install discs that came with the computer.  I want to upgrade to Leopard so that I can run some programs (like iSale and iLife '09) that require Mac OS 10.5 or higher.  I noticed that Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) isn't even available anymore on the Apple website.  I want to purchase the DVDs for Leopard on eBay (or somewhere else online), but I keep seeing several different versions being advertised.  I've seen the following: "Mac OS X Leopard Install Software", "Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.2 Install Disc", "Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.4 Install Disc", "Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.5 Install Disc", and "MacBook 13" Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6 Install Disc" (among others).  Which one of these do I need to get?  Will any of them work on my computer?  Are some of them designed to work only on specific hardware platforms (ie. specific Mac models)?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
You need the FULL RETAIL Install DVD.
Are some of them designed to work only on specific hardware platforms (ie. specific Mac models)?
Yes; that's why you need the full retail Install version.

Ask the store for a local Macintosh Users Group / Club... maybe someone there can help you. You might check pawn shops in the area for a machine that has a full set of disks. Apple will sell/mail you a set. I don't know of anyplace to legitimately download them... For what its worth any commercial (e.g. full retail version) install of OS X on disk should work for your machine.

  • Standard definition NTSC DVD spec

As I remember the DVD spec for NTSC, the players recognize 24p, but not 30p. Can someone confirm this? What I suspect this means is that a standard DVD player will just interpret the 30p as 60i and send it to the display as interlaced fields. While for 24p, the player will record it as such and then play it out to the display as progressive frames.
    Thanks,
    John

Thanks James. I wonder if it's because I have QuickTime Pro v 7.0.2 on the G5. I have QT Pro 7.0.3 on the iMac that lost the ability to export to MPEG2 via QuickTime conversion when I updated FCP to 5.0.4 (from 5.0.3).
Regardless, I was having great success exporting this way, from HDV right to NTSC standard definition MPEG2. Looked great, no problems.
I'm still running FCP 5.0.3 and QT 7.0.2 on the G5, and am afraid I'll lose the QT conversion MPEG2 option if I upgrade!...

  • My MacBook Pro can no longer read/play/do anything with DVDs. I tried re-installing OS and Leopard but discs are rejected almost as soon as I put them in. For some reason my computer is rejecting any and all DVDs.

A few weeks ago I noticed my MacBook Pro was unable to open or read, etc... DVDs. This included DVDs with jpeg photos on them and DVD videos. I thought I might have deleted something necessary to DVD use. So I tried to re-install OS software. This included Snow Leopard and the original two Mac OS X discs. None would open or play or install. All were spit out of computer soon after I stuck them in.
So now what can I do? Thank you.

Do you recommend the canned air
It works just as well as the regular cleaning discs works.  The only disadvantage is that you will need to keep purchasing canned air once it runs out.  Cleaning discs last forever or until the tiny bristles on the disc wears out.  Whichever comes first.
Any store that sells cds & dvds will also sell disc cleaners.  Prices vary but they all do the same thing - clean your slot drive.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're users here and do not speak for "Apple Inc."
Power on the computer and insert the DVD immediately.
Hold down the 'C' key to boot from the Snow Leopard DVD.

i have a Mac i5 and need to download the application 'Numbers' but everytime I try to do so, it says can't do as the ver 2.2 for the app needs new software 'Snow Leopard'. I don't want to upgrade but dont know what to do??

If your profile is correct you're already on the final version of Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Sure it wasn't Lion it was asking for?
If that's the only version available on the app store, you'll need to source a copy of the iWork '09 DVD - not cheap now - only available via Amazon or eBay etc.

i have 10.5.8 and need to get the newest software but dont know how?

You need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD and then run Software Update. Some MacBook Pros can then be upgraded to 10.7 or 10.8.

It is not asking what part of your country you are in, but what country/region you are in.
Region encoding is the mechanism that enables motion picture studios to control the worldwide release of their movies. It is required by the DVD Forum (http://www.dvdforum.org/forum.shtml) in all commercial hardware DVD players. Every DVD-Video disc contains one byte of data representing a region code, which limits where the disc can be played.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2397
Once you have set the region in DVD Player five times it cannot be changed.
Instead, use VLC to view videos from different regions:

  • I have Logic on my iMac and want to install it on my new mac book but my mac book doesn't have a dvd drive. I tried to download the upgrade but it looks for an older version. How do I get Logic on the Mac book ?

I would like to install logic on my new mac book but there is no dvd drive. I tried to downlaod the upgrade but that didn't work. How do I download it for the first time?
    Thanks!

You can only use the App Store version to reinstall on your new Mac if you bought Logic via the App Store in the first place.... and then it will appear under the Purchases tab in the Mac App Store App so long as you are signed in using the same Apple ID you used to purchase Logic via the App store in the first place.
If you bought the DVD edition of Logic Studio then you must initially install using those original DVDs to begin with and then update to the latest version of your version of Logic via software updates.
No DVD drive? Buy an external one.. Amazon do a very cheap basic one that works well..
    or...
Use Remote Disk if you still have your older Mac which has a built in DVD drive...

  • Edu DVD in computer iTunes but does not show up in iPad iTunes or iPad video.  How do I make the DVD contents available on the iPad?

Educational DVD added successfully to computer iTunes but does not show up in iPad iTunes or iPad video.  How do I make the DVD contents available on the iPad?

Thanks!  For whatever bizarre reason for which I have no answer - I sync'd my iPad to my MBP the old fashion way (not iCloud) and the movie showed up just fine.  It is Nikon camera 'how to' video. I like to watch them for a better indepth discovery of what the camera can do.  The only weird thing about the hard wire sync is that it was placed in a catagory "home movies" which was never there before...actually it showed up in two places "home movies" and TV shows.
    So, thanks anyway!  Pretty cat!
